"Appreciate your business! Thank you for your kind words!"
The individual from this company arrived on time and did repair our fireplace. My problem with this company is what they eventually charged us. This ended up being a simple repair, where a part was broken and needed to be replaced. First, they tripled the charges for the part. They left the packaging of the part and I looked it up on the internet (prices ranged from $25-30 but I was charged $75 for the part). Second, this repair could have been completed in an hour, but this guy made delay after delay to double the labor charges and stretch it to two hours. Once the part was identified, he told me the only place he could get the part was at a store way down by Fort Collins airport. He left and then after about 15 minutes he came back and said oh, maybe he might need to replace another part (no, he didn't need to do that) and he came back to get the part number. Then he left again and was gone about 45 minutes, and when he came back I watched him test and re-test and re-test the part that had already been identified as needing replacing (huh?), before he finally replaced it with the new part.
BTW, I found the part on the Home Depot website and altho I didn't check our local store to see if the part was there I am assuming it was there because it was listed on their website. Home Depot is a very short 1.5 miles away from our home. Don't understand why I had to pay $95/hour for this guy to drive way down to the Fort Collins airport to get a part that seems to be available at Home Depot just a short distance away. I think the two trips were excessive charges that we ended up having to pay for.
Isn't it amazing, but when he f-i-n-a-l-l-y finished it was two hours. I feel we were over-charged an hour of labor ($95) and overcharged for the part.
Also, BTW, after he wrote up the bill, he told me, oh by the way the pilot light and quot;auto lighterand quot; didn't work, and that if we needed to light the pilot light we would have to use a match. He showed me that the pilot light was supposed to automatically light from a button underneath the fireplace, but that the part didn't work. Not sure why he didn't repair this if he noticed it didn't work, but I surely wasn't going to have him do it and have to spend more money for him to drive down to the FC airport again for another part.
I am happy to pay reasonable charges for work done on our behalf, but I feel they basically doubled the and quot;reasonableand quot; cost for both the labor with totally unnecessary delays and the part by unreasonable uplift of the part (by tripling the actual cost).
I would not use them again.
"I'M REX LOWRANCE, OWNER OF REX'S PLUMBING & HEATING. MY RESPONSE TO THIS MEMBER'S COMMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS: HE IS A REAL NICE KID BUYING HIS FIRST HOME WITH HIS NEW WIFE (LOVELY COUPLE). THEY PURCHASED A HOME THAT WAS BUILT IN 1945 THAT HAS BEEN A COLLEGE RENTAL AND FIXER UPPER BEFORE THEY BOUGHT IT FROM THE BANK AS A REPO. FIRST OFF THE VERBAL ESTIMATE I GAVE HIM WAS FOR $2000-$2500 DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH HE WANTED TO REPAIR AND OR REPLACE. THAT WAS INCLUDING RUNNING NEW WATER LINES, GAS LINE AND VENT, A RINNAI MODEL #2532 AND R&R ALL THE GALVANIZED LINES THAT WERE IN THE LAUNDRY ROOM AND PUT THEM IN THE CEILING. IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROJECT HE INFORMED ME THAT HE DIDN'T WANT THAT ONE, HE WANTED THE MODEL #53I PLUS WHICH HE FOUND ON LINE WHICH IS A GREAT UNIT BUT IT COSTS OVER $600 MORE THAN THE ONE BID, HE DID NOT MENTION THAT HE WANTED THAT ONE UNTIL AFTER THE OTHER UNIT WAS ALREADY ON THE JOB SITE AND UPON ORDERING THE OTHER UNIT I HAD TO PAY A 20% RESTOCKING FEE AND WAIT 2 DAYS FOR THE NEW TO ARRIVE. WHILE WORKING ON THE PROJECT HE SAID CAN YOU REMOVE AND REPLACE THE WATER LINES GOING TO THE KITCHEN IN THE NEXT ROOM, RUN THE NEW WATER LINES AS FAR AS YOU CAN WITHOUT TEARING OUT THE ENTIRE CEILING IN THE NEXT ROOM OVER THE BATHROOM AND CAN YOU RUN A NEW DRYER VENT AND CAN YOU REPLACE THE WATER LINE BACK TO AND THE MAIN SHUT OFF BECAUSE IT IS LEAKING AND CAN YOU TELL ME WHY THE FOUNDATION WALL HAS A TWO INCH CRACK IN IT WITH WATER COMING IN AND IS THAT SOMETHING I SHOULD WORRY ABOUT. WELL I THINK YOU GET THE PICTURE. THERE WERE MANY THINGS I FIXED AND DID NOT CHARGE FOR AND NOT TO MENTION GAVE HIM A REDUCED RATE ON ALL WORK PERFORMED, I DID NOT CHARGE HIM FOR THE RESTOCKING FEE AND SERVICED THE FURNACE AT NO CHARGE. I HAD DISCUSSED WITH HIM THAT MOST OF THE PIPING AND HEAT RUNS IN THE HOUSE WAS SEALED AND INSULATED WITH ASBESTOS AND HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE AN ASBESTOS ABATEMENT TEAM COME OVER AND REMOVE IT OR HE WOULD HAVE TO. WE CANNOT HANDLE DUE TO INSURANCE REGULATIONS AND LABOR RESTRICTIONS. THE COUPLE HAD JUST CLOSED ON THE HOUSE AT NOON AND WANTED US IN FOR REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY THE SAME DAY WE WERE VERY BUSY AT THE TIME AND WE GOT THERE THE NEXT DAY. TO HELP SAVE ON SOME COSTS HE AGREED TO PULL DOWN THE PANELING ON THE CEILING SO WE COULD PUT THE PIPES IN THE FLOOR JOISTS UPON ARRIVAL AT THE JOB HE HAD REMOVED A SMALL SECTION OUT OF THE CORNER OF ONE ROOM AND PILED IT UP IN THE MIDDLE OF WHERE WE HAD TO WORK. WE HAD TO REMOVE THE DEBRIS AND REMOVE THE REST OF THE CEILING COVER. I WAS WRONG IN YELLING BACK AT HIM WHEN HE WENT OFF ON ME AFTER RECEIVING THE BILL. HE’S GOT A TEMPER. AS FOR LEAVING MY TRAINEE THERE TO DO THE JOB I WAS PERSONALLY ON THE JOB FOR 95% OF IT I HAD STEPPED OUT FOR TWO MEETINGS TO LOOK AT OTHER JOBS AND I WAS GONE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR TO HOUR AND A HALF BOTH TIMES. I DID LEARN THAT FROM NOW ON DO NOT DO ANY ADDITIONAL WORK UNTIL THE CUSTOMER IS TOTALLY AWARE OF ALL COST DIFFERENCES AND EXTRA’S BEFORE WORK IS STARTED NO MATTER HOW BIG OF A HURRY THEY ARE IN. ALL IN ALL HE COULD BE A REAL NICE GUY IF HE CAN KEEP HIS TEMPER UNDER CONTROL. THE FINAL JOB COST WAS $3622.55"
