"Hey there Vaghn, Happy to hear that you like the work we did for you. It was a pleasure, and if you have any other painting or staining projects arise, you know who to call! Thank you for your business. -Christiaana Rote Office Manager Foothills Painting LLC"
"[Member's name removed] I am very sorry you were not taken care of before the job began. We take pride in our customer service and communication, and it looks like we dropped the ball on your home. I really am thankful for your feedback as it has already produced shifts in our company in insuring there is always someone overseeing each and every job from start to finish, instead of going from person to person. Please call me (Ben Landusky, co-owner) at (970)819-0146 if you need anything at all in regards to you paint job and I will make sure your experience is ten times better than the first time. I also am extending your warranty to five years instead of two now. Again I am sorry for this lack of communication and organization and I thank you for your feedback!"
A Foothills representative came through the neighborhood handing out fliers. We had not heard of the company before but said that we would like to get a cost estimate to paint the exterior of our home. This was a Saturday, and on Monday we heard from the company and set up to get an estimate later that week. Prior to the estimator, Cavin, arriving, we looked up Foothills on Angie's List and based on some of the reviews we were not sure this was a company we would do business with. From the time we met with Cavin for the estimate, to going through the paint selection with Bobby, to the actual work done on the house by Adam and Eric, it was obvious that the owners had taken the negative feedback on Angie's List seriously. Everyone we dealt with was very professional, taking the time necessary to explain what to expect each step of the process. They then followed through.
"Thank you so much for working with us [removed member name]!"
"It was very easy and smooth working with you, call us for any of your painting needs. Thank you for your business!"
"thank you for the feedback, we really appreciate it!"
"Great, thank you very much. Call us whenever you need anything!"
"Thank you for your feedback and suggestions. We are greatly humbled and taken aback by this review, and want to know what we can do to mend what happened. We have hired on a new Color Consultant and Production Manager to better handle the transition from sales rep to painter to ensure things like this never happen again. It is EXTREMELY unprofessional to have absolutely no contact with you, our client, during the whole job and even after. I have extended your warranty to five years so if anything at all breaks down (cracks, peels, fades, etc.), we will come fix it completely free. Please call me at (970)819-0146 for any and all problems. You can also always call our office at (970)286-0060. Thank you [removed member name] and I am very sorry for the way this job went."
"Thanks so much for the feedback, we really enjoyed working with you!"
Their price was in the ballpark with the other estimates we received. Ben?s crew was very nice. They were very professional to work with. We have four dogs which can be hard to work around at times. They worked very well with our schedule to be able to make sure we were there while the job was being completed. They finished the job in about four days and cleaned up well. He did a follow up with me about a month ago. They are going to actually complete a touch up job in the spring. Ben and his crew did a great job overall!
"You were fun and easy to work with. Thank you very much for your business!"
"I am very happy we joined Angies List as we have found out about many mistakes made in the past with our business. I haven't the slightest clue why our team chose not to mask off the other windows on your home but this is unacceptable. Jennifer, your warranty is now upgraded to a five years. Please call me directly at (970)819-0146 to schedule any warranty work or call the office at (970)286-0060"
"I am extremely sorry for the terrible job we did at your home. Not showing up on time and doing sub-par work is unacceptable and unprofessional. At the time this project was completed, I was unaware of the problems with this job. I have since reached out to this Angie's list member to attempt to resolve this. Since they have moved from the home we painted, I am sending them $300 to use towards their next paint job. I know that does not fix or make right the poor service, but we're committed to taking care of our customers the best way that we can. For anyone who chooses to hire us, please know that you can ALWAYS call me (co-owner of Foothills Painting) any time at (970)819-0146 or Eric (co-owner of Foothills Painting) at (970)227-0181 for any reason. You can call the production supervisor whose name will be on your contract, and you can call the main office line at (970)286-0060. We're committed to taking care of our customers, and we want to know if you are unhappy so we can fix it and make it right... and we will. Thank you!"
I think they did a great job! They did what they were supposed to do and even completed the job sooner than projected. The job was finished in about three days and they did a real good job with clean up. Their cost was very reasonable. They explained the whole process and answered follow up questions promptly. I was pleased with their service overall.
"Thank you so much, [member name removed]. I enjoyed working with you!"
The exact schedule was the first issue to surface. We were told initially that we would be slotted for a time toward the end of the week of July 8. Then we were told that, due to a cancellation, we would be moved up a day or two. We asked for a precise time, and were told that they would start either the afternoon of July 10 or the morning of July 11. At about 7:00 a.m. on the 10th, the doorbell rang. When we answered it, there were several painters on our front lawn, ready to get started. No one had notified us of this early start . So much for the job starting that afternoon. We told them to go ahead and start the work.
We told the fellow who appeared to be in charge of the crew about the issues we had discussed with the company representative earlier, and he was not familiar with them. Somehow that word did not get from the representative we spoke with initially to the guy who actually does the work - poor internal communication. So WE had to show the guys on-site what we wanted done in those areas.
As the job proceeded, we began to notice that the trash they were generating was just thrown on the lawn. We concluded that they must have one big cleanup at the end of the day instead of keeping up with it as it is generated. It turns out we were right - they did a pickup toward the end of the job. Luckily, it was not a very windy day. If it had been, our trash would have been all over the neighborhood.
When the job began to wind down, we noticed that many of the hooks that we had asked to be removed were still in place. We also had not seen the gutter/caulk item addressed. So, we had to remind them again about these things. It also became apparent that, after 10 or 11 hours, that the crew was getting antsy to go home. The man-in-charge gave us the opportunity to do an inspection as the crew was gathering some trash and taking things to the truck. We did a brief walkaround and we found a few items. They then left the job.
As I found out later, we probably should have done a more thorough inspection job. We found trash that they missed, much of it small, but if we found it, they could have also. We also found a few small marks in the deck, mostly removable with rubbing alcohol, but still an indication that they did not take our concerns as seriously as they should have. A day or two later we found about half of our windows painted shut. So we had to free them. Some took more effort that others. We also found unfilled holes where hooks were removed, paint splotches on the front porch, and trim paint on the siding in one location. It's stuff like this that detracts from an otherwise respectable job.
In summary, we are not professional house painters. We have owned three houses prior to this one, and never had to do a full-blown paint job because of their types of construction. So we didn't know what to expect. I didn't anticipate a perfect job,. and the job we got was pretty good overall, but I think it could have been better if the following had occurred:
1. There is no excuse for telling a customer when a job will start, then actually starting it when the customer is unprepared. They should improve their internal communication.
2. COMMUNICATE THE CUSTOMER'S REQUESTS TO THE CREW THAT DOES THE WORK!!! We felt that we had to run the job for the bosses who didn't pass things along. Also, to our knowledge, no one from the company came by that day to check on progress, interact with the customer, etc. A fellow did come buy a few days later, which was nice, but might have been more worthwhile on the day the work was done.
3. In our opinion, a crew could not have done a first class job on this house in one day. Another half-day or so might have spared us some of these issues.
In the "Details of Your Experience" section of this review, we indicated that we would not hire this firm again. Since the final product was respectable, we would not call this a hard "No."
"(member name), As the new co-owner of Foothills Painting I want to personally apologize for everything that went wrong with your house painting job. From the miscommunication about the start date and the expectations and small details about the job (i.e. caulk and gutter issue), to the poor clean up job and missed touch up spots, this was a poor showing by my company. Since the beginning of 2014, we have made some major improvements and upgrades to our company. Now, we have a production manager who is in charge of managing each crew and making sure all details and communication about the job are communicated correctly from sales representative to crew foreman. Also, our crews now do a cleanup job at the end of each day instead of at the end of each job. Not only is this more pleasant for the client but it actually makes the total clean up time much less and so saves us money and time on each job. Finally, we have added a color consultant that helps find desired colors, lists all unique and major concerns about your specific home, and creates a portfolio (with the sales representative) that is then given to the foreman of the crew. This has served us very well the past year and we have continued to upgrade our systems to make painting with us as smooth as possible. Again I am sorry your first paint job was not a good experience and that you had to do more work and supervision than anyone paying for a quality paint job should. I have extended your workmanship warranty to five years. If you find anything lacking in your paint job, call me personally at (970)819-0146 and I will see to it that my best crew comes out and fixes it. Thank you very much for your feedback and suggestions, and I hope your next painting experience is smooth and easy! Best, Ben Landusky Foothills Painting"
