The end result was absolutely amazing. I've done several remodels over the last 20 years, and this was the best experience I've had with any contractor.
Description of Work: In September 2012 I noticed a problem with moisture behind the tile of my shower wall and was concerned because water was getting into the wall. I called several tile companies to get a quote to have the wall repaired. Of the five companies that I called, Stellar was the only company that called back. Not only did they call back, but they continued to follow-up with phone calls until I was able to call them back. When Stellar came in to give me a bid, I decided that it would be a good time to remove the old bathtub that was part of the shower, and create a full shower where the bathtub shower was. Throughout the process of deciding what I wanted to do, Stellar was very professional and patient. I ended up doing a full remodel of the bathroom, by replacing bathtub/shower, tile, floor, vanity top, toilet, and all plumbing. Although the Stellar was busy with other business, the rep always stayed in touch. When the job started, there was great care in making sure the carpeted areas to and from the bathroom were protected. It was clear watching the progress of the job that the people doing the work were very professional and competent. The full remodel of the bathroom was accomplished in two weeks.
The project went very well. Jack Wilson was our contact, and he proved very helpful throughout the process, always available and open to communication. We worked with a few different skilled individuals, as the project involved multiple tasks. We enjoyed our experience with each of them. Importantly, Jack and his team proved highly flexible, as we nearly doubled the scope of the work mid project. While this created a conflict with the primary contractor who had just finished the kitchen, as he had already been assigned to another project, Jack brought in another member of his team who did excellent work on the replacement of all of our trim (one of this team member's specialties). Perhaps the best part was the ability of the team to work without my wife and I being present. We work long hours, so most of the coordination had to happen over the phone or through notes. Despite this communication barrier (entirely caused by my wife and I, not Stellar), the team did everything we wanted, and nothing we did not. When there was any kind of a breakdown, Stellar adjusted to meet our wishes, even where objectively the breakdown was due to my wife and I. For a breakdown: Renovation work: Stellar offered good insight into the design of the project, as we needed to figure out where to put the fridge while getting rid of a wall in a pretty small space. The wall contained plenty of wiring and vents, all of which were successfully moved and adjusted. Cal did great work here, and was fun to work with. Flooring: Justin and his associate did great work. The new flooring looks far better than the old tile, but most impressive was the work they did re finishing and flattening the existing floors, which had looked like waves hitting a beach, as the house is old. We worked out finding an attractive stain that would work with the condition of the existing floors, and the result is most satisfactory. Painting: Orlando and his team impressed me greatly. First off, they did a great job painting the downstairs, including the cabinets and the trim. More impressively, they charged through the work with great speed, without sacrificing quality, knowing how desperate we were to be back in the home. Orlando even volunteered his squad to work on Thanksgiving day, finishing up the next day, and coming by on that Saturday to do one final walk through to be sure each and every touch up had been perfected. They also sealed the brick, and not a piece has crumbled onto the floor. Trim and Casing, etc.: Mike did a spectacular job with the trim work. We wanted to replace the existing material as we did not feel it was substantial enough. We came up with a basic design, but left much of the work to Mike. He came through by constructing and installing substantial and elegant trim throughout the first floor. Mike also installed the outside door, and exposed the brick wall, doing a great job on both. We were all nervous about what the brick might look like beneath (the Stellar team more than us, as we were more willing to deal with imperfection), but it came out really well. This last part brings me to my final comment. At times my wife and I had to press Stellar to do certain aspects of the project against their initial advice, but this hesitance by Stellar was always based out of concern for us and the house, and never seemed to be to hike the price or extend the work. Jack would always try to find us a less expensive method of doing something (though never recommending anything of low quality), so when we wanted to take a pricier route, or do something that could go either way (exposing brick without knowing what was behind it), we just had to clearly state our objective. With the marching orders in hand, Stellar executed the tasks brilliantly. All in all, my wife and I could not be happier with the house we get to enjoy every day, and the people that helped make that possible. The upstairs needs some work, and once we have the energy to renovate another floor, Stellar will be receiving a call.
Description of Work: We basically renovated much of our first floor. We removed a wall between the kitchen and the dining room, removed the countertops and cabinets, replaced the tile flooring in the entryway and kitchen with hardwood to match the existing floors in adjacent rooms, exposed a brick wall in the dining room, replaced an outside window with a glass door, requiring cutting out of the existing brick, but largely working within the window frame, removed and replaced all door casing/trim and baseboards, painted the entire downstairs and stairwell into landing on second floor, installed new granite countertops and bar between now open kitchen and dining room, reworked plumbing, heating and electric for where the wall had been removed, installed support beam to replace structural wall, installed gas line for new stove, and painted kitchen cabinets.

We called Stellar Paint to give us an estimate for painting a bedroom and bathroom. We had an appointment for that estimate at 3pm. The person didn't even call until 4:15pm, at which time he said he was running late and could be at my house in 20 minutes or so. I have a small baby, and working around her schedule and feedings is pretty tough. This was a rather large inconvenience and disappointment. I will say that the worker did send an apology email the next day, which was nice, but still not sufficient.

We apologize to this member for any inconvenience. We meant her no harm obviously and we find when something like this happens, which it just quite simply does to all of us in the Service Industry, folks usually just re-schedule. Tolerance and understanding for a mistake or a mishap it seems is just not the protocol in today’s world of social media and online reporting. We genuinely feel bad and are sad that this member did not get a chance to see firsthand the high character that has built the foundation of who we are & the Kind, Compassionate and Caring Company that would have strived to serve her. I can honestly only say one more thing, "Only God is Perfect”. Please see below Greg's Heartfelt Apology to this member. Dear Member, I again want to express my sincere apology for my mistake. I got my days mixed up and completely lost track. Please believe that I was not simply blowing off our appointment, every customer is important to us and my failing should not be considered par for Stellar or myself. I feel awful and want you to know that I am solely responsible, it was a ‘senior moment’ and not lack of caring. I completely understand you not wanting to do business with me and am very sorry for representing Stellar poorly and any inconvenience I may have caused you. Kind Regards Greg Williamson Account Manager

Overall, it was a great experience. I was very impressed with the professionalism of the entire Stellar team. Beginning with the free estimate, the individual that came to my house was very knowledgable about what it was that they were offering and very accommodating with my requests. The things that sold me in particular originally with Stellar were the fact that used elastomeric caulk, scraped the bottom of the siding on the North and East sides of the house, and in particular the fact that they gave me a period of time that they would let the first paint coat dry before they applied the second coat. The manufacturer of the paint I used (Super Paint by Sherwin Williams) suggested that the first coat needed to dry before the second coat and while other companies just said they would apply two coats, Stellar actually specified in the contract that they would wait for 4-6 hours for the first coat to dry. This did cost a little bit extra, but I liked that they were up front about it. Once the painting began, I was extremely impressed with the paint crew that Stellar sent to my house. They were 3 very friendly and professional individuals and were meticulous in everything they did. I'm sure I wasn't the easiest of customers as I had a lot of questions and requests, however the paint crew was very patient with me and professional the entire time. Even though Stellar's estimate came in slightly higher than other companies (really just slightly higher like 10% and possibly would have been lower if I didn't want that 4-6 hour dry time) it was their professionalism and quality of work that I am glad I paid for. It was well worth the extra 10%. Thanks Stellar!

We met with Guy (the owner) to review what needed to be done and get a proposal - he was very professional and pointed out some things that needed to be addressed with our home (we had some mold on one side of our home). The proposal was thorough and had a fair price. We made a decision to have the house painted a much deeper color than it was originally painted - we went from beige to a caramel brown. I have seen other homes and paint projects that didn't have good coverage of the deeper colors, but this was not a problem at all with Stellar. They did a beautiful job and we have received many compliments from our neighbors and friends! I noticed that they even filled all the nail marks with caulk on the siding, and their paint lines were straight and even. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: We had significant hail damage and needed to have the exterior of our home repainted. They painted the entire exterior including the trim.

We were very pleased with the service of this company. They proactively reached out to us to schedule an appointment after we had purchased the Big Deal. They called to confirm our appointment as well a couple days before. I was very pleased with the prep work that the crew did to protect our hardwood floors. I am very particular about the line between the top of the wall and the ceiling and I am pleased with the way the crew did with that. I was also very pleased with their post-project clean-up. I didn't have to clean up anything at all and there weren't any spots on our hardwood floors. The crew was very friendly, trustworthy and responsive.
Description of Work: We purchased a Big Deal for wallpaper removal of a bedroom in our home. We were so pleased with the service and quality of the work that we hired the crew to paint the bedroom as well. They prepped the walls, filled holes, primed the walls and then expertly painted the entire room, including the ceiling.

when I called and talk to Ann the Executive Assistant I asked if they did Stucco repair, she said she had to check and will call me back, which she did and said they do Stucco repair. She set me up with an appointment with Greg on Friday 11/30 @ 10:00 AM Greg gets there and tells me they do not do Stucco repair. Seem like these folks don't know what they do and don't do. Should have been a red flag when she said she had to check if they did that kind of work, you would think that the Executive Assistant would know that. I would not recommend this company for any work

Hold on there member. Pretty Strong Reaction. Ann is a New Employee, been with us for 2 Weeks, was courteous, set your appointment, followed up with you via e-mail and we were there "in person" to meet with you in a timely way. For Goodness Sakes, does not seem so Horrible to me? Our Painting Crews DO attend to small Repairs if it is part of an Stucco Elastomeric Coating Process. We are Stucco Coating Experts and can often lend good advice and a professional assessment of all Stucco Surfaces to a Client in that regard, even if Repairs are just what a Client is initially looking for. Maybe there was a misunderstanding in that regard. If there is a need for JUST Stucco Repairs we refer our Clients to a Local Stucco Repair Co. in town that we trust and know will be reliable and do good work. I am sure Greg gave him this info. and given Ann is new with us, she just did not know to relay that up-front or may have again misinterpreted the need. If we set the appt. professionally, showed up in person and was attentive to the request, even if we had to refer him to someone else, why in the world is an "F" Appropriate? “I am sorry sir, we have another source specific to just Stucco Repair- here is that Source." Is this really a disaster and deserved of such an overreaction? Seems to me that aligning someone up with a reliable and quality referral is serving a Client base and a Community pretty well! Very Harsh, Unkind and Extremely Mean Spirited to take the time to write up such a Venomous Review. The Personality and Character of attempting to discredit us for really something pretty insignificant, even in light of the fact that we DID SHOW UP and provide an alternative resource, is absolutely distasteful and stunning. Why do some people think it is OK to be so "cavalier" about what they post online, not give more consideration to what they say or to what the true impact is on a good caring small business enterprise? Why is there such a void of presence of mind to this real impact to a business’s good people/families and why do so in what appears to be devoid of a conscious whatsoever? This is truly sad and unfathomable. We wish this individual well but it is clear to us that this member would not have been a good fit for our Company regardless of his needs. The work performed by Stellar Remodeling was excellent.
Description of Work: Stellar Remodeling began work in September, 2011 and finished 99% of the work by mid-November, 2011. The whole remodeling project started with a small leak in a water pipe that my daughter discovered under the kitchen sink in July, 2011. It took Allstate Insurance two months to get me an estimate and check for the work that was needed to repair the water damage. An Allstate adjuster had to come out a second time to allow compensation for additional damage that was not covered in the first estimate. Meanwhile, Jack Wilson from Stellar Remodeling was patient with waiting for me to have the money to pay for the start of work. The work was very professional and Mike, the primary remodeler really knew how to make the project move forward. The water damage was extensive, causing damage in the kitchen cabinets, the kitchen floor, almost 400 square feet, and a complete gutting of the full bathroom which shared the ruined wall with the kitchen. Mike was able to install a new whirlpool/steam shower combination unit in the bathroom, despite space limitations and confusing directions from the manufacturer. All the work that Mike and his helper did was excellent, as well as the couple that replaced the ceramic tile floor in the kitchen and the bathroom. To save moneyand get the fixtures I wanted, I made numerous trips to Lowe’s to get the flooring, cabinets, paint, and other necessary items. I had understood that the work I did would offset the insurance deductible, but that was not true. Nonetheless, I had ongoing problems with Allstate in fairly compensating me for the actual cost of the repairs for which Allstate was responsible. I spent over $4000 of my own money, redoing the plumbing with Pex and purchasing matching colors for the remodeled bathroom. While that was my choice, Allstate questioned the higher than estimated cost of labor, about 50% higher than originally estimated. In fact, I had replaced very costly Corian in the bathroom with the new steam shower, a much cheaper product. Thus, the labor and product choice balanced out, and Allstate finally paid me most of the money that they owed me. I would suggest getting as firm a labor price as possible, but my project had several labor intensive aspects, so the labor cost was higher and the responsibility of the insurance company. When the final pieces of material were delivered, toekick and trim, Mike came out for over two hours and finished the project at no charge. Jack was very understanding of all the delays from the insurance payments and overall, the project is now finished and beautiful. I would recommend Stellar Remodeling for bathrooms and kitchens, but find a different insurance company.

We were very pleased by the professional attitudes of every employee of Stellar Painting. All individuals that worked on our paint and repair project were highly professional, and pleasant to deal with. The repairs had some small problems but the foreman and the owner of Stellar Paint always made sure that the end result was acceptable to the Board of Directors. They were very easy to work with. They were also punctual and had great attitudes when they were dealing with us. We never felt we could not approach any of these workers or supervisors with a question or a problem and they always took care of anything that came up in course of our conversations. We were very pleased with the final results and would recommend this company to anyone that was looking for a reliable exterior paint job. There are always small problems during a project of this magnitude and you have to be engaged with the company doing the work but we found this to be an easy thing to do with this company. No one of our owners had a complaint about the paint job performed on their unit. The owner is a knowledgeble and very pleasant gentleman and his supervisors are skilled as are the crews that he sends to do the work.
Description of Work: We contracted with Stellar Custom Painting and Repair to paint and repair the exterior of our townhome community. Our townhome community has an exterior of cedar siding and is a difficult material to work with. They repaired the necessary cedar siding and then did the paint job itself. Three of our buildings, had to be painted a green color and the other four had to be painted brown thereby causing more work for the crews on our project. The crews prepped the buildings and performed the repairs and painting in a timely manner. They power washed the exterior and scraped and caulked the cedar siding. These crews always cleaned up at the end of each day of work which was greatly appreciated by our owners.

I woke up one Sunday, looked at our 30-year-old master bath and got out the saws-all! After the demo, I contacted Stellar Remodeling. Jack came out to do an estimate and gave us great ideas and advice about how to proceed in both the master and powder bath rooms. He presented many options, including several we had not thought of, but without any hard sell. The Stellar crew (John and Denise) were great -- very professional, prompt, courteous, skilled, and did top quality work. The minor issues, surprises, and additions that always come up were dealt with easily and to our satisfaction. Jack's original estimate was right on target. In the end, we could not be happier and if I ever take a saws-all to the kitchen we'll call Jack first thing!

We selected Stellar Painting after reading the many positive reviews on Angie's List. We were contacted quickly and had an estimate to paint our entire main living area (2100 sq ft.) We took advantage of a Color Consultant to confirm the colors and brand of paint (Benjamin Moore Regal.) The crew took steps to properly protect everything well. They arrived promptly each day and the job was completed as scheduled. They did a thorough job cleaning up after completing the painting. All in all we are very pleased with the work done by Stellar and would certainly recommend them to others and definitely will call them when we have the lower level painted.

They did a great job. They were very professional. They went on top of it. It is a huge amount of handwork to get around a spindle. We were in a big home improvement phase. It looked very nice. Their pricing was slightly higher by a few percent but I just did not get the impression that other people I talked to are going to do the job quite as well. The carpenters recommended them. I know they are on Angie's List. They have gotten really good ratings. Their owner who does the estimates is Guy. I guess he spent years in the paint industry so he knows the products really well. He actually has been able to give me some good background information about the way the products work and how they are laid down and where to paint and all those things when I asked some pretty detailed questions which I really appreciated.
Description of Work: Stellar Painting and Remodeling did our staircase inside the house. They stained, lacquered and gave a clear finish over an oak staircase that we had and the banisters. They did fine sanding of all the spindles and hand rails, stained and put two coats of clear vinyl or urethane or whatever it is they use.

To start, I believe very firmly that a paint consultant was critically necessary for me because I need good color and didn't want to go thru the experimentation process. Because of this, it was a huge help for me to have Connie George at interiorXcapes guide me thru the process. It made the paint job go much easier and we got the end result we wanted. Connie said she works a lot with Stellar Painting and recommended them to do our painting. When Stellar came to our house, he did a complete walk thru, asked several questions in reference to the job and explained what he expected of his crews. I appreciated that a lot. It told me that his crews aren't just some Joe off the street, he uses professionals. Stellar emailed their paint bid soon after the house walk thru. We agreed on the bid, paid for part of the job, the painters picked up the paint, as agreed to and the painting began. This job was very well done, exactly as I had requested and discussed with Stellar Painting. The paint crew was very professional, courteous, neat and incredibly hard working. Each evening when the painters finished, they would clean up and remove ladders and buckets. The deep tones of the paints I wanted required a lot of finely detailed work which was done exactly as I expected and wanted it to be. The paint crew of Mayo and Adolpho came in on a Wednesday and finished 6 days later, working into the evenings and on the weekend also. They answered any questions I had and if I pointed out something that I thought needed extra attention or that they might have possibly missed, they always took mental note and attended to it, if needed or explained it I me. Stellar Painting will always be recommended by me.
Description of Work: 1) This was a paint job for a new home, approx 3000 sq'. We were unhappy with the builder's 2 paint choices (walls and trim) as well as the quality of the builder's paint. Because of that I hired Connie George of interiorXscapes to do a paint consult. She was worth it and I would recommend her services any time. First, Connie will do whatever the client wants but she is a firm believer in the use of a quality paint and suggested I use the Benjamin Moore Aura paint. I've used this paint in a previous home and it is certainly worth the extra cost. 2) Next, Connie recommended that I use Stellar Painting to do this job, which I did. 3) Stellar came out and did a walk thru of the house with Connie and me. Connie had previously explained to him that this job would include many deep and rich tones and colors throughout, including walls, ceilings and trim. 4) I told him what I wanted and that I needed it done as soon as possible - probably what everyone wants. He told me that he felt this job would be best done by a crew of 3 men and it would require 6 days to properly paint everything. He said he had a crew that could do this job beginning the following week. He said ordinarily his crews are backed up a bit but this crew was waiting to begin another job and our home would be perfect to fit in during this time. 5) The paint crew of Mayo and Adolpho came in the following Wednesday and finished the job 6 days later. This crew of 2 worked very long hours, including the weekend to get this job done. Stellar had said 3 guys would be in this crew but the 2 who were there were more than sufficient and we couldn't have asked for a better, more professional team.

I had Jack Wilson, the President of this company, come out to my place to give me an estimate on the work. He verbally told me it would be around $5,000-6,000. I asked him if he would please email me his bid since he mainly scribbled some numbers on a notepad. I never received an email or call back from him. A week later, I called Jack about this and he told me he was unable to remember the work to be done nor could he find his notes. He said he would have to come back out to give me an estimate. I told him not to bother and that I would find a more serious company to work with.

They were very professional. Were here when they said they would be. Performed the work with great attention to detail as well. Stellar did a great job removing wallpaper, texturing and wallpapering 5 rooms in our house. They were very considerate, and made every effort to keep the rest of the house clean. Their quality was excellent in all rooms. In addition and most impressive of all, Stellar accidentally underbid the project. Instead of just apologizing and then charging us the additional amount, Stellar made good on their original bid and only charged us what they originally quoted, and the additional cost they incurred themselves. I would recommend Stellar for any interior painting and wallpaper removal.

This is a follow up review. My initial review gave them a terrific review based on the walk through after the job was finished. However, since that time I have noticed a couple of things I did not catch on the first review (which is my fault for not thinking to look at these areas.) The shed was painted, but I have now noticed upon closer inspection that the undersides of door trim were not painted, and the very bottom of the shed, the base, was not painted. There looks to be a couple of swipes with the paint brush on both sides, and then they forgot about it or something. This is ground/sidewalk level and I didn't catch it on the walk through. Also, I just had the patio doors cleaned. Initially during the walk through the bamboo shades were down for summer. When cleaning, the shades were drawn up and I found multiple paint splatters on the glass. Hope I can get this cleaned off. Finally, the electrical boxes out back were initially sprayed. I asked them to redo parts as they just sprayed without wiping off cobwebs or leaves. They did re do it, but poorly. The left side of the boxes are very close to the patio doors so trying to paint with a larger brush didn't work. Areas of that are still unpainted. Perhaps a very small roller would have worked. All in all, after doing a closer inspection, and finding more things that I wished I would have caught the first time, I'm not sure I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Exterior painting of house plus a storage shed in back yard. Complete painting of brick and frame exterior, plus frame shed.

The Final Walk Thru submitted by this member said the Following: Good Team. They addressed any concerns willingly. Took care of Final Walk Thru List without Complaints. Thank You. EXCELLENT RATING. If there were any further concerns after the fact, all this member had to do was make a simple Phone Call and we would have returned gladly to take care of them. We are NOT asking members or any Client to “settle” for something less than what they were hoping for and never have that expectation, even after the “Final Walk thru”. We are not in a hurry to move on and care GREATLY for all Clients. Give us a chance and we will always follow thru to a positive or more positive end result. A little Paint Splatter on the Glass of a Storm Door to a Patio is not uncommon for any Paint Service Company. It comes off in mere minutes with Goof off, a 5 in 1 or a Razor Blade. While we always go to great lengths to prevent Paint Splatter, it is just near Impossible to not have it happen whatsoever when applying a Liquid that just Flat will go where you do not want it at times. For that we are of course apologetic but again would have taken care of it for her promptly if had been brought to our attention. We understand that things can be missed upon the initial walk thru even if most everything is addressed. Again, just make a call or send an e-mail. Give a Good Contractor a chance to help and get something to an Absolute place of satisfaction. While I understand a Shed does nor recieve the same type of attention on a walk thru as a house, we are none theless happy to get it "up to Speed" and make the corrections she mentioned in the report. We will contact this member, re-review this area again and take steps to improve it, and corect it along with the Electrical Boxes. Is it really fair to levy criticism without alerting us that someting else was discovered? If she had contacted us several times and we were not responsive or did not recieve/return her calls, I would understand the report better. We look forward to doing what we can for this member now and in the future with her project and are very dedicated to do so in that regard.

As far as the paint job, it was an improvement over Two Men And A Brush. However, there are some things that need to be pointed out. 1. The painters were to arrive between the hours of 8-10 a.m. and arrived a couple minutes before 10:00. They informed me that they needed to go pick up the white paint for the ceiling, doors, baseboard and trim. During my meeting with the estimator, I informed him that I had on hand the paint for the walls, however, no white paint. I even e-mailed the information from the can of paint to the office so that they would know what type of paint to get so that it matched. I was dumbfounded that they had not prepared to paint. That's like getting a list of school supplies from teachers so that students can have all the tools they need and be prepared to work the first day of school. The painter said that they needed to know how much paint to get, which is fine but this should have been done prior to the start of the job. I would have been perfectly fine with them coming out beforehand to do this if the estimator did not have the skill set to do so. As a result, this delayed the start of the job. I also requested a TV nook be painted, which I mentioned during the meet with the estimator. I did not see it listed in the contract and wrote it on the signed copy that I sent to the office. On the day of the painting, the estimator said he did not include this in the estimate and that it would be extra and would let me know the additional amount. I was fine with that. Some time after 5:00 p.m. the estimator came by (he lives in the same condominiums) and asked the workers how it was going. I was in another part of my home when I heard someone say hello. It was the estimator. I noticed that he had flip-flops on (I have a no-shoe-policy in my home, which I also follow). I politely asked if he could remove his shoes and that's when his attitude and demeanor changed (which is surprising considering the fact that he didn't have a problems with it when he first came out for the estimate. He also stated that since they had the tarp up that I should let them paint the rest of my home (earlier in the day the painter informed me that the estimator also mentioned this to him). In stated both times, I wanted the paint job they were doing is separate from the other paint job and that I did not want to proceed with the other job until I get resolution from the previous company. When the estimator called back to give me the additional price to paint the TV nook, he brought the subject again and I informed him that I felt that he was pressuring me into proceed with the other pair job and reiterated that I wanted to conclude business with the first company. Why would I or anyone else for that matter want to set themselves up to potentially be on the hook to pay two different companies for the same job. That's just messy and not how I conduct my business. Subsequently, he went to talk to the painters and commented about how they were doing a good job. A short time later he came back and started socializing with the painters while they worked. He asked how much longer before they would be finished. They responded another thirty minutes. He then stated that he wanted them to meet his wife and asked what kind of beer they drank (they said it didn't matter) and that he would pick up a 12-pack. He went on to say he and his wife were expecting a kid. Congratulations, but you can discuss that on your own time; not my dime. It would have been different if he going to pick up a brush to help paint while socializing. The painters stopped working at 7:00 p.m. They handed me a form labeled "Interior & Exterior Final Walk" and asked me to look at the work. I explained that I would prefer to wait for the paint to dry as you can better examine and look for any areas needing touch up. The next day, I labeled those areas with blue tape. They came out today, 10/10/12 to do the work. One area was painted over without being patched and retexturized. I was informed by the painter that he couldn't patch it up (but later told the estimator as well as I that it would take too long to do) because it wasn't included in the contract. I contacted the estimator who informed me that he did not include it in the contract (even though on the contract under Job Notes, #3 "Customer is to blue tape and point out touch up areas and under Scope of the Work, states "Apply Sherwin Williams Pro Block Latex Primer to any Newly Textured drywall...."). I reminded him that we discussed this during the estimate and even pointed out one obvious error to be patched. He said it wasn't in his notes. Just because he did not make notation of this doesn't change the fact that we discussed it. I also pointed out that the area I pointed out to both he and the painter was touched up then painted. His response was, "then you got it for free." Where is the quality of work painting without first patching them up? In conclusion, I did point out the TV nook was to be included in the job. He later (10/01/12) said it would be extra. I know I communicated this, but I let it slide and paid the additional cost and dependent upon the cost, I would have been fine with the additional cost for the areas to be patched up had he disclosed that upfront. Also, the painter's did not remove the air return vent (as stipulated in the contract) when I asked. I had to request that he do so and paint underneath (see pic #3). There was a section of the ceiling that they did not paint (says Robert said it would be extra) even though I also pointed this out to him during the meet and extends as far as the all they painted (see pic #2). I don't know if he gets paid commission but a little goodwill goes a long way and increases the potential for repeat customers. Last, there is a hallway closet where the doors were to be painted. I personally observed them cover the items in the closet with plastic tarp. Upon later observation, I noticed two suits that had been placed on the vanity in the adjacent bathroom. I asked the painter about it and his excuse was they had to be removed so they could take the doors off and paint them. 1. If everything was covered with plastic, they wouldn't have had to remove anything. 2. Why remove just those two items (that have never been worn since picking up from the dry cleaners but will now have to go back to remove what appears to be a white substance)? Why not remove everything in the closet? 3. Where I come from, if you're in someone's home you ask first if you can use their private facilities--the give away was the seat being left up. Adding insult to injury, no hand washing occurred afterwards, which is how germs get spread.
Description of Work: Robert, the estimator came to my home to give me two separate bids. One to fix the sloppy work done by Two Men And A Brush and a second, separate bid for one room and an adjacent hallway( that was to be done by the previous company but since they did such an unprofessional job and damaged a lot of my person property, I refused to let them go any further for fear that they would do more damage. I engaged them to peform the second paint job.

This member had another Paint Co. Come originally to do her Project and fired them due to poor workmanship. We came along and gave her a Bid to "Rescue the Project". She had us Hard Bid Painting a Hallway and the Sun Room only. We gave her a Time and Material Bid by the Hr. to Repair Texture, Touch Up or Re-do the Rest of the project. She Originally Agreed to do both but then changed her mind and elected not to do the Repair Work by the Hr. as she wanted to seek a settlement of some sort with the Original Co. When we were there originally and on the Follow up we told her the Texture Repairs were part of the Time and Material she elected not to do. When we came back the Second Time she said there were touch ups and there were none. She instead wanted us to do repair work for free which we again told her was not the Agreement. Robert, my Account Manager, was there on his day off to check in on the Project. When they were leaving, he was talking to the guys and invited them over to his House for a Beer after Work as his appreciation for their hard work. I see nothing offensive or inappropriate about this. This conversation took place outside the home, by the Vehicles in the Driveway, they were leaving and it is unfair and odd to portray is as anything other than that. When Robert entered the House he had Flip Flops on being a Sat. and walked in on the Paper already lined to the Floor. She asked him to remove them regardless and he did so gladly and apologized for forgetting. No one can understand this claim of a "Change in Attitude?!" She did not remove any Clothes from her Closet to the Casing to be painted, so we did so as a Favor for her to the Immediate Area and placed them in the Bathroom. No paint was on these clothes when they were replaced to the Closet after the Paint dried. We took great care when handling them and were just trying to be kind and helpful. Again, another unfair representation of actual events that took place. The TV Nook area was not in the Original Bid and yet she tried to represent that it was. Even though it was not scoped, she tried to write it in to the price portion of the Contract when she sent it in. That does not make it so. We told her kindly that it would be a Change order and we gave her a fair price to repair it. She refused to pay for any repairs that would have been part of the Time & Material Portion of the original Bid that she chose not to do. What more can we do at that point? By the way, the guys did do some repair work for her at no Charge but we have to draw the Line Somewhere? The Painters will often show up to access the need for Qty. of paint and then go get the Paint. Give the odd circumstances this is how we handled it. This is not abnormal behavior and just Standard procedure. The claims of use of the Bathroom and “No Hand Washing” I believe are an indication to all members of what we were dealing with here. I believe a 5000 to 6000 word unkind essay for a $600.00 project when we were there to help her is also an indication of the same. We worked hard for her; we were there to help her in good faith and did all we could for her within the scope of what she agreed to. By the way the Ceiling she speaks of was not part of the Original Bid and was part of the Painting that needed to be corrected from the previous Painting Co. We painted the Ceiling to the area Scoped. The Ceiling she speaks of is above several other areas. We just want folks to be reasonable, that all. It is always difficult to come in behind poor work performed by another Co. and while we are willing to help in these types of Situations, it is not uncommon for it to be a difficult, emotional and an uncomfortable setting for us, which it was. This report is unfair, unjust and an inaccurate representation of actual events. Why not just work with us fairly and pay a fair price to do so. Why strike out at the very people there to earnestly help? It is all very baffling indeed. Even with all of this, we are still willing to help her. We wish her well with her settlement with the Company who really deserves the Bad Report. We continue to mean well always, serve all members fairly and to the best we can to produce positive end results when given the opportunity to do so. She had one of my most tenured and highest rated Crews there to help her. It is unfortunate that she did not really allow us to serve her in a good way.

I called to schedule a bid and Robert came out about a week later. We walked around the house and he took detailed notes. Our house hadn't been painted in nearly 15 years, so there was a considerable amount of rotten wood (previous owners never bothered to paint, I guess). The bid came back and included a lead remediation charge that Robert removed once I provided proof of a lead test. The carpentry team came about three weeks later and spent two days replacing the rotten wood. The two fellows doing the work were kind and hard workers. They were concerned that Robert hadn't noticed some other rotten spots and brought out their supervisor to consult. We agreed that those parts needed to be replaced and I signed a change order authorizing the additional work. They came out on a Saturday morning to finish the job. I also hired the paint consultant to come out. She was so helpful in suggesting which colors would work best with our brick and roofing material. Once we agreed on the colors, she sent them to Stellar. The painting team arrived several weeks after that. They were also kind and industrious. I had no problems leaving the house in their care if I needed to step out. If there were any questions, Victor asked first before assuming what to do. They cleaned up and made sure we did a final check of their work, which was excellent.
Description of Work: Exterior painting of our home. Remove and replace multiple rotten boards.

I contacted Stellar originally in mid-July. The owner called me back and said he'd have Desmond, the carpentry project manager, call me. Desmond did call and we set up an appt for him to come and estimate the wall project. He was helpful and seemed to understand what we needed, including the hose spigot issue. We had to call and email a few times to get the estimate and drawing, which does not help my confidence in them, but eventually did get the items from Desmond. I then put together a proposal for our HOA's design committee to review and approve. I sent Desmond a copy, complete with photos. At Desmond's suggestion, I also sent Greg and Guy at Stellar the same proposal and asked that they contact me to estimate painting the wall, as Desmond's side of the company does not do painting. About a week passed with no response about the painting, so I called and left a message. They called me back and sent Greg to estimate. I got the estimate from Greg. The HOA approved the design with a few changes. I emailed the news about the approval and the changes to Desmond on 8/31. It's 10/2 and I have not heard anything back. I feel that my having to call them back and email and call again before I get a response does not instill confidence that contracting with this company would be a good experience -- they are slow and/or unresponsive before I even hire them. I see the other ratings of A and A+ and I don't know why they were willing to respond and work with these other people -- I don't know what the problem is. It is annoying because I am now stuck with having to start my search for a contractor all over again.
Description of Work: I contacted Stellar through Angie's list as we are looking for a contractor to build a wall on our townhome patio. It has to match the other walls, which are sided with hardyboard and framed with lattice on top. It's just a wall, but complicated as walls go. Another challenge is that the hose spigot is right where the wall should meet the outside wall of the house, so a workaround, or moving the spigot, would be required.

We worked hard to provide estimates to this member for what is a somewhat a complicated Project. Desmond was awaiting word on HOA approval and just simply and honestly missed an e-mail from this member in regards to proceeding or addl. needs. All of us can get somewhere between 50 to 100 e-mails a day, it’s flat overwhelming at times and sometimes this can happen. Were all very responsive to a ph. Call and there are lots of ways to reach us, Desmond’s cell, Jack's cell, Greg's cell, my cell, the Remodeling office & the Main Sales office. There are also alternative E-mails for all of the above including a contact page with the Main Website. In this day and age when e-mails can be spammed or dumped into a Junk Mail box, it would seem to make sense to just make a simple follow up Ph. Call or e-mail to any one of the above referenced places to ensure we knew they needed or wanted to hear from us. Instead of making such a drastic conclusion, we would have hoped that they would just reach out to us and say "hey we e-mailed Desmond, have not heard from him, maybe he missed the e-mail, can you have him call us?" Such is really an appreciated thing to do from our viewpoint as we do not, not want to talk to this client. We have since made contact with this member and earnestly hope we will still assist them with their project as we have quite an investment in it ourselves. In this day and age of immediate result communication, I think we forget sometimes that it is not a perfect system by any means and we must sometimes revert back to alternative and ground root, more basic sources of communication. We care and if someone does not hear from us, something has happened unintentionally, just as it could to any company and does. We encourage all members to just pick up the phone and follow up and give a good contractor a chance to communicate back within a reasonable amt. of time.

Unfortunately I am having to revise my initial review of Stellar. I hired Stellar for a full remodel after a fire consumed my entire condo. I was having to handle this job remotely as I live in Florida and my condo is located in Littleton, CO. Jack was good about overseeing the project for me while I was not able to fly back to check up on it. The finished product came out nice however when it was all said and done I ended up paying over 10% over my initial bid. In the middle of the project I was notified that there were items that were not accounted for in the initial proposal and Jack had only mentioned the options to me without regard to additional price so I assumed they were accounted for in the original range of the proposal. I did not find out what the total amount over the high end of the proposal was until all the work was completed. This came out to be almost $2000 dollars above the high end of the bid. To top it off, Stellar had installed a door to open in to a very small utility closet/laundry room which made it impossible to fit a washer and dryer into. I asked Jack to have the door switched so the room could be functional which he had done promptly. Again no mention of price and assuming it was their mistake for installing a door to open in to a tiny room I assumed they would take care of the cost of flipping the door. I received a call a week later that I owe another $350 dollars for labor for flipping the door to my laundry room. It would be tough for me to endorse Stellar as a preferred service.
Description of Work: Full Condo remodel including 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen. Full finish work performed other than carpet installation.

I called and requested a quote for repairs on the bathroom ceiling (new dry wasll, tape, sand, texture and paint) in conjunction with a homeowners insurance claim. I was told the job was too small and would not cost over $500 so they would not do it. Thye refered me to Grandma's Handyman Services,.

We appreciate very much this member's Inquiry as to our Services. We informed her that we had a Min. at this time of yr. as many Companies do of $500.00 and that based on her scope of Work, she might be a better fit for an everyday Handyman Service. So as what we are accustomed to do, we referred her to a valued Partner. We care for all people who call us and if we cannot help them, we do the best we can to refer them to a good source. In doing so, I believe we are demonstrating further to members that we are a kind, caring and conscientious Company. Why would us promptly referring her to a good and proven resource deserve a "C" Rating seems very harsh and unfair indeed. I am sure this member was taken care of in a Good Way and we wish her well with all her future Contractor Selections.
