I did promise to not write a negative review - but in good faith to Angie list customers - I can't sleep at night keeping my promise to them since my loyalty is to other consumers, not the vendor. The bottom line is they did try to make me feel better by correcting the the numerous problems - but the sheer number of problems were too much to overcome to get me to a neutral position. Bottom line, I hired another painter to complete all my painting and I left this relationship with a bitter taste in my mouth even though they made attempts to make things right - they just couldn't fix the overall problem of overcoming the expectation I was to receive the best painters (off season scheduling) that forgot to paint numerous areas, family oriented business (but despite my detailed emails with their office they rescheduled with me 3 times & never share MY detailed project plans so I had to repeat it to the workers), and ended up with me having to find ways to replace my shag rug (even though they tried to clean it unsuccessfully). The one positive note is their remodel business has a carpenter by the name of Desmond - he's awesome and I'd use him again - but only directly. If you need carpentry done - he's your guy.
Description of Work: Had both window sill repair and a lot of painting done.

Response from Stellar Painting & Remodeling
Dear Members, I too can’t sleep at night when I have a Troubled, Unkind or Unhappy Customer. I too feel an obligation to the consumer as an advocate of my Industry. I too feel great loyalty to the people that mean the most to us, our Clients. There are many aspects of this member’s report that are inaccurate, unfair and at it’s root level really unkind. We are good, kind, patient and respectful people here at Stellar and our track record of going on 10 years reflects that. We take everything we do seriously and stand proud to say that we have and always will do what we need to do to produce positive end results. All of our support staff, painters, vendors (Our Carpet Professional) and ownership went to great lengths to satisfy this members needs every step of the way and compensate her for any inconvenience that was caused by a scheduling delay due to no real fault of our own. The happy client in front of her project just asked for back to back change orders delaying our arrival. We promptly communicated this right away to her each time with the impression she was ok and understood. She later recanted and asked for special concessions and consideration for the 2 day delay. Here are the Facts Folks: 1.) This member’s Job was scheduled for a Tues. and we started on a Thurs. Morning which is a 2 day Delay NOT a 3 day delay. Most members just want to hear from their contractor as to status and we did so. 2.) Having knowledge of our dealings with this member, I did ask her for some consideration as to reporting on Angie’s list. She indicated to me personally she was happy and over the scheduling delay. She NEVER indicated to me or anyone that there were any issues with the Quality of the work or the Painters themselves. This is the promise she mentions in the report. What a shame to strike out, not really appreciate anything or anyone’s efforts and just look to inflict pain and harm on lots of people and a good business with a keyboard as your weapon of choice. That’s what would make me lose sleep. I can assure you, we did nothing to this member to deserve such a harsh judgment. 3.) Because of this aforementioned delay, again to really no fault of our own, we did the following for her: a. Moved addl. Furniture and Removed Curtains and Rods b. Provided at No Charge Carpentry to Replace another Window Sill. (An expensive dispensation that we completely paid for Labor and Materials including travel time for our Carpenter). She very specifically asked for this at n/c. c. Painted a Wall for her in her Upstairs Hallway Bath at No Charge. d. In addition, we repaired Holes in the Ceiling left over by the Electrician in the Living Room at No Charge. This was not in the Scope of Work and yet it was done at no Charge. e. We repainted the Master Bath for her at no charge as she was attempting to re-paint it herself since she ended up not liking the color. - When would expectations of compensatory services end? 4.) She sent 2 short E-mails to us both indicating possible changes she might make. Even one of them says “It’s looking great and I’m excited to see the Project in it’s Final Form”. We did not receive multitudes of detailed e-mails from this member and not a one indicating confusion or misdirection by us or her crew. The Claim that she had to guide the Painters and they had no real understanding of the job is confounding and a misrepresentation of fact. The Painters walked the Project with her as is their Habit the First day and there was a perfect understanding as to the scope of work. She spoke very little with them thereafter. 5.) Areas missed or not painted is confusing to all of us who were there with her to the end!? The Job was walked and punched out twice. Not sure what more we could do in that regard. 6.) Sheer number of problems is just not reflective of the ongoing feedback we were getting. 2 issues. The Original start date changing and an issue with a rug. That’s it, that’s all. Nothing ever mentioned as to lack of quality or attention to the Project itself. 7.) “The Rug”- The Painters reached up to do a couple of quick touch ups just before they left on the last day and got 2 small drops of Paint on her rug. We coach them to always have a drop under them-selves, but this sort of thing can happen when there is an easy to reach quick touch up. They cleaned it with Soap and Water right away but apparently the Texture of the Fibers were altered some and were not as soft. She indicated this in an e-mail and I assured her we would take care of it one way or another. 8.) She asked that we return days later to do a Final punch out for the Job at a very specific time with a 1 hr. window. She called on that very day at 7:30 AM on my cell ph. to cancel this meeting & I missed the call. The Painter’s showed up at the assigned time at 9 AM & she was mad and sent them away. Respectful behavior should always be mutual. Why make everyone feel terrible? Why wait until the last min. and then blame us? 9.) We re-set the date for this final, final walk and I made arrangements for our Professional Carpet Cleaner to look at the Rug. 10.) My Painters, myself and my Carpet professional all met out at her home at the designated time and reviewed the Project and the Rug. 11.) As the Rug had not been treated further, the shag fibers still had some residue and I had my Carpet Professional take it to have it cleaned. He promised her 7-10 business Days. In the Interim, she called this vendor directly & was persistent and suspicious as to the rugs status. Again, everyone was working hard to make it happen just as soon as it reasonable could. The Following Friday was 8 Business Days and he delivered it on Sat. to her Doorstep. She was supposed to meet this Vendor but was not there as again he drove almost a hr. to honor a commitment but to no avail or proper consideration. This Rug was Fiber Treated, Shampooed, Dry Cleaned, Vacuumed and Raked. Our Carpet Professional deemed it to be in good order for her. 12.) As I left that Final Day, I discounted her bill willingly $300.00, so if she was not happy in some way, she could then go back to Costco and re-order it. The day before she wrote this review, she did in fact indicate she would be taking that addl. $300.00. My Carpet guy is perplexed but that is OK. That is why I gave her that discount on the Bill to start with. It is interesting when the caring and good things we do to attend to a situation are never brought to light when the goal is strike out and do online damage for whatever reason. 13.) To recommend to members that our employee should moonlight or be hired on the side outside of our employment I think also is an indication as to the final character of this situation and the experience for us. In conclusion, this Crew has a Stellar History with us (47 Jobs rated excellent and 3 good for recent 2012-2013) and they continue to maintain a very high rating with the quality of there work. I really think that just illustrates what we were up against. I believe this “F” rating is a sad testament to the difficult, unkind and disingenuous behavior that we are all faced with from time to time in the Service Industry. It took minutes to impose a poor rating on us with a few flicks of a keyboard and hours for us to care and have passion enough for what we do here at Stellar to form a viable response. We truly worked hard to serve this member well. We wish her “all the Best” with her future contractors. We look forward to moving on to focus our efforts on happy Clients and Members and continuing to lead this market in overall Customer Satisfaction. Guy W. Protected the stairs and railings, cocked, primed and then painted.
Description of Work: 2 painters spent the day priming, cocking and painting my back entry. The ceiling are high and over stairs.
We got more than our money's worth! Jack was so helpful with suggestions, and flexible in working with us. We told him to just pick out a back door. He chose the perfect one! All the work was done with such precision and care. My husband was especially taken with Travis, who did the tile work. Travis loves doing tile and it shows! I could not be more pleased with the work that has been done thus far. As a matter of fact, we're going to have him remodel our kitchen later this month. I'll write another review when that has been done.
Description of Work: We contracted with Jack Wilson of Stellar Remodeling to do a number of services for us including: rebuild our basement steps (they were too narrow, and he widened them); tile the landing and the basement floor; replace the back door and make repairs; paint the back entry and install a bannister; repair the front door; drywall repairs in living room, dining room and bedroom.

Very well done. A one-hour color consultation was included with the painting job, which was extremely helpful. The painters showed up when they said the would, moved furniture all around, did a lovely job on the painting and finished when they said they would.

Bottom line up front: Have them do an in person consultation before purchasing this deal. I purchased a deal for two painters for a day (16 work hours) for $450. After the purchase I called Stellar Painting and explained the size of my house (2300 sq ft) and that I had two areas of vaulted ceilings (went up the two stories). They said the painters should be able to paint all my ceilings in a day (which I thought was optimistic) and if they needed extra time I could purchase it at a discounted rate of $30 an hour. The painters showed up at the designated time and got to work. They were only able to paint the vaulted ceilings and one bedroom. The work was very good and the painters were professional and courteous.

Overall, very please with the detail of work performed by the crew. They were very courteous and cleaned after each day's work ensuring that everything was well protected before work began.
Description of Work: We had almost the entire inside of the house painted.
We are very pleased with the end result and happy that we used Stellar Painting and Remodeling to do the work. Justin and Nick did an amazing job installing new hardwood floors as well as refinishing and tying into existing hardwood and removing carpet throughout the main floor of our home. They were very professional, friendly, and hardworking. Mike and Travis did a nice job putting in new MDF trim throughout the main floor, remodeling our stairwell and fireplace mantel, and repairing the drywall on the basement ceiling. Victor and his painting crew were also very professional, friendly, and hardworking doing a great job on the painting. We had painting done on ceilings, the new floor trim/fireplace mantel/stairwell casings/posts, and in a bedroom. They also texturized and painted the ceiling in the basement bedroom that had been damaged with the leaky dishwasher. The texturizing matches the existing texture nicely. The two teams, Stellar Remodel (Jack's team) & Stellar Painting (Guy's team), coordinated to give us a beautiful finished product with just a few bumps in the road along the way. Both teams were accommodating as we made changes/additions, also giving us good advice and suggestions on how to come up with a finished product that fits our taste. We love it!
Description of Work: We had carpet removed, hardwood installed, interior painting done, and a few minor repair and carpentry projects done.

We had used Stellar Painting and Remodeling in the past and were very pleased (they did some repair work on our soffits and painted the exterior wood on our house). Therefore, when we needed some internal painting done, we contacted them again. We were pleased with our sales guy who did a thorough walk-thru with us of exactly what we wanted done and wrote it up in the contract and explained how some areas in our house would need to be repaired in certain ways before being painted, etc. However, when the crew came to do the work, they hadn't read the contract and asked us what they were supposed to do! The leader of the crew was hardly ever on-site (in spite of what the contract indicated) and the crew spoke very little English. We attempted to use some of our broken Spanish to communicate with them, but didn't know enough of the vocabulary for painting to be able to communicate. At one point, one of the crew members asked if he should repair holes in the wall with caulk and I had to explain that spackle should be used instead. We have a 100 year old house with beautiful wood trim that the painting crew put a "nickel edge" on (so they basically covered all of the wood trim with an edge of paint roughly the width of a nickel). Nobody communicated to us that this would happen and it's virtually impossible to get off. The contract also indicated that they would prime the walls before painting (if needed) and this didn't happen in any of the rooms, making it so that at least one room had to be covered in extra coats and one room just wasn't done right (there were pencil markings on the wall which are still visable through the paint job). We were pressured to sign off on the walk-thru sheet without having the leader there all or a walk-thru with any member of Stellar. We refused to do so. We were later asked by the administration staff at Stellar via email to sign off and communicated we didn't want to do this without a walk-thru with someone from Stellar and were never contacted back (we contacted Stellar by both phone and email). Finally, they wrote us by email and wanted to correct the issue, but at that point we were just wanting to be done with the whole job and didn't want to deal with Stellar anymore. The contract indicated that the taping job would be done with blue tape, but the crew used regular masking tape, which unfortunately peeled a lot of paint off (both from the paint job they did, but also from areas we didn't have painted by Stellar). Either the tape was the wrong choice or the crew pulled it off too fast, but either way, it tore off a fair amount of paint in almost every room they worked on. Sadly, it seems that the job quality you get is very dependent on the crew you get since our first experience was good, but this last experience was not. In the future, we will just paint our house by ourselves since the quality of what we got was not worth the price we paid or the hassle that we went through.

Response from Stellar Painting & Remodeling
We always feel bad when we do not make a Client happy and are certainly regretful no less here. The Team we had on this project was a Newer Team to Stellar and we had been working with them towards about the Middle of Summer, mostly on Exterior Projects. We, like most other Service Companies, have to hire new people. We have equally high standards as our Clients and have to watch their performance to see if they match our expectations, get a track record established and also get a feel as to if we need to reprogram a team to our way of doing things. We were concerned as we always are with a less Tenured Crew and both Greg and I visited the Job site several times to account for what was going on, take care of concerns and address any improvements as would be appropriate. I explained the Nickel Edge process to this Member as a typical and most appropriate technique to employ when there is old paint on the Edge of the Stained Wood Work. Given the Age of the Trim and the Fact that there was old Paint to the Edges the Choice was made to run the new paint over the Edge to cover the Old. The reason it is hard to remove is that the Old Paint underneath is rock hard from being present for many, many yrs. and possibly decades given the age of the home. This member seemed to understand my explanation but we are sorry that this still does not seem satisfactory to them post completion. All concerns and repairs were addressed immediately including any Paint pulled away from edges to Walls/Ceilings. This was happening more because this crew was letting the Caulk line to the Tape dry too long before they pulled it. Understandably, I personally addressed this with the Crew and again all needed repairs were made. Primer was used were needed as scoped and any addl. coats needed to walls was gladly applied. Pencil marks can be difficult to cover for sure and we will offer to take care of that for the Client. Based on a color, time of day and general light reflective value of the area it is sometimes hard to detect this sort of thing. Something I would have hoped we could have addressed on a final Walk or a revisit. We spackle walls and caulk trim period. All crews receive the Work order and many will just ask to review or walk the project which many times is misinterpreted as not "knowing what to do", ect. Greg, the account manager, visited with the Crew the Morning of Final Touch ups and reviewed all that needed to be done. To be clear, management was onsite checking in regularly and we cared tremendously about the end result. It is no way our habit to ignore ph. calls or e-mails any more than an Angie List report, ect. No one can recall just ignoring the aforementioned as this project was of great import to us especially considering the time I and the account manager had vested in making sure things finished up well. We both drove by the same afternoon that this team was punched out the project to talk/check in with the member and no one was home. We sent an e-mail to check in and no response. We really did care! Final Walk thru’s should never be signed unless the job really has been walked and all issues are addressed satisfactorily. Bottom line, we strive with great commitment to make folks happy and as hard as we try we just cannot always succeed in that regard. That is just the nature of this business. All our Crews must be able to perform work on the Inside to the same level as the Exterior. This crew did not meet that Standard and we released them. We have great crews and some of the best tenure in our Market. We have had ½ of our Crews for almost 8 yrs. now and another 1/3rd with 2 yrs. or more. We annually have to hire a couple of new Crews and we go thru an exhausting interview process to do so. We will always make needed additions and subtractions with our work force as would be appropriate like any successful business. We remain dedicated and committed to a positive end result and have earned an esteemed track record in that regard. It is who we are and what has made us successful. We have 98% rating of excellence but it is always that 2 or 3 percent that remains the great challenge for all of us caring businesses. Trust me when I tell you that you want a company that takes what they do as seriously as we do and is as eager to please as we are. We are very saddened and hurt by this report but have great resolve to always learn from what happened or did not happen and be a better company for it. We will follow up with the member and offer to further assist as we truly care about them as a client. If they wish, we will come and do so with the same fervor for quality that we exhibit in all things we do. Guy W. Miller President- Stellar Painting and Remodeling
We contacted Stellar to have our new home painted before moving in, then found that they also have remodeling services, which we wanted. Because all services were within the same company, a good deal of work was done in a short time, enabling us to meet a tight move-in deadline. With the exception of some drywalling that Stellar contracted out to another company, all work was done beautifully and professionally. We were pleased with how easy and pleasant it was to work with Stellar and recommend them highly.

My husband and I highly recommend Stellar for whatever work you are having done. We are confident that you will be satisfied with the end result, customer service, and attention to detail. Their prices are reasonable for the quality of work they do. You might even get the pleasure of working with Desmond who really shines when it comes to customer service and making sure the job is done right.
Description of Work: Our home was built in 1994-95 during a housing boom in Colorado and some of the construction was less than perfect. The wood used to trim the outside around windows, roofing, and chimney was rotting from the inferior wood used and the lack of sufficient prep before it was originally painted. Although we have had it painted since, even the painting that we done later was not prepped properly and caused additional damage. We found Stellar on Angie's list and called them to give us a quote. They were prompt and though not as low cost as a previous bid, we felt more comfortable that they knew what they were doing and were trustworthy. We have not regretted the decision for one minute! All construction projects run into glitches, either something needs more work than originally anticipated or some worker does something stupid like dropping construction debris on a bush. I can say that Stellar was extremely attentive to making sure we were satisfied with the work being done. Even more impressive, when the supervisor found something that he didn't think was done correctly, we didn't notice it, he made the workers fix the problem. If he had not done so, the problem would have shown up after the work was done and paid for and likely during one of the 90+ mph wind storms that often happen in this area. The attention to the details of the extensive woodwork that was done on our home was impressive. No shortcuts were taken that would have reduced the live expectancy of the work or incensed my detail oriented husband. When we couldn't decide on a house color from the aged color palette that our HOA gave us to use, Stellar sent out a designer at a very reasonable cost to help us select something that was pleasing to us and would get quick HOA approval. I was impressed and we LOVE the colors we ended up with. The HOA also recommended a less than durable exterior paint that would have deteriorated too quickly with the intense Colorado sun. Stellar gave us the option of using a higher grade paint that will most likely outlast our ownership of the home...we are seniors and do not want to invest in re-painting too soon. We still have a front door and sidelight that needs to be replaced and Stellar will be doing that job for us as well. They have been very patient with the nightmare we have had with Home Depot in trying to get a custom sized door and sidelight without damage or incompetence on Home Depot's part. Fifth order placed for the same door may be the charm...we can only hope!!!

The first day started off a little rough as the contractor didn't get started until around 3pm. They made up for that during the rest of the week and came exactly when we told them to be there and stayed until the early evening. They kept the areas cleaned up as they went. Painters were very friendly and easy to work with. We were happy with the quote we received and the job that was done.

Probably the most professional contracting company I have ever dealt with, from the estimate to the finished product. Very punctual, hardworking and courteous. Extremely clean. Sanded the family room ceiling and did a great job of sealing the entire room off from the rest of the house. Work quality was very excellent. Finished product is superb. Really appreciated that they painted the drywall repair and matched the surrounding paint perfectly. Went out of their way to please us. Would hire again in a heartbeat. Was a little concerned about required deposit up front ($950), but agreed to it based on their reputation. I was not disappointed!

Stellar did a fantastic job painting and repairing the wood on the house. Other companies I approached recommended at least two contractors to do this job whereas Stellar turn keyed it completely. The crew exhibited the highest professionalism, executed with great skill, and showed care in protecting landscaped areas from paint residuals. Very pleased with the results and timely completion of the job. I also had an opportunity to talk with Guy Miller, President of Stellar Painting and Remodeling. I found his attention to detail and focus on satisfying customers refreshing. His perspective shows in his crew's actions and differentiates Stellar as a top tier contractor. I highly recommend them and will use them again on my next project.

We contacted Stellar Painting at the end of November (after a different painting company backed out of their commitment to paint our home). The gentleman we spoke with at Stellar was extremely helpful and said that he would be willing to come out and give us an estimate on painting the exterior of our home. We were very impressed with the paint job they did on our neighbors home, and after receiving the quote, decided to have Stellar paint our home. We picked out our paint, and a WONDERFUL group of gentlemen came to our home and started working the first part of December. The crew was very prompt, professional, neat and extremely friendly. They did an amazing job painting and we couldn't be happier with how our home turned out!! I would definitely recommend Stellar Painting!!!

Stellar promptly got their estimators out to generate very accurate estimates of the entire job. The estimates (one for the painting and one for the carpentry and electrical work) were received quickly and were extremely detailed. The final invoices matched the estimates exactly. They bid and used a high quality Sherwin-Williams paint, however, it was necessary for me to find a Sherwin Williams dealer to get the paint colors. They also require a deposit to get put on their schedule, but the deposit is credited back as part of the final invoice. Their costs were in the middle of the higher end of other bids I received, but their professionalism and ability to work with me gave them a huge edge over other bidders. Certainly the finished job made it worthwhile and I'm glad I picked them for the job. All the work was done quickly and professionally. The paint crew was very careful about prepping the house for the job, sanding, scraping, pressure washing, masking, and caulking where needed. Brick work, concrete areas, and the air conditioning unit were all protected or covered to prevent any over spray problems. There was a bit of a mix up with Stellar's coordination of scheduling between the painting crew and the carpentry crew, as the carpentry work should have been done prior to the painting, but somehow wasn't set up. The office staff quickly re-arranged their crew's schedules to get the carpentry and electrical work done, although it was after the painters had finished. The carpentry team was highly experienced, efficient, professional, and friendly. They did a terrific job repairing and replacing some very difficult problem areas around the windows. They also were extremely good at re-painting the areas they worked on, although that is normally done by the painters after the repairs are done. They also moved a floodlight and were incredibly patient about listening to me about how and where I wanted the new light placed. All-in-all, Stellar did an outstanding job, and the scheduling problem was only a minor hiccup which they recovered from very efficiently. I will certainly use them in the future and recommend them highly for any painting and remodeling work.
Description of Work: Exterior painting - large, two story house plus deck work. Carpentry - replaced and repaired badly deteriorated exterior window moulding, fascia boards, "bird boxes" at the end of the soffits, loose and warped siding. Electrical - moved exterior floodlight.

They just were incapable of doing any of it. They sent a crew out that didn't know what they were doing. We ended up spending about double what we were expecting.
Description of Work: We had some water damage and they were going to rebuild walls for us.

Response from Stellar Painting & Remodeling
As is typical and sad really with these types of reports, there is the "OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY". As it has been 6 months now since the Remodeling division engaged with this member and endeavored into a project, I had to spend some time pulling the File from our records and thoroughly review, evaluate and interview all parties involved as is our standard practice. The facts are these: He was the GC (General Contractor) on his own Project. He needed help with several Handyman type items (A little Plumbing, a little Electrical, a little bit of Drywall, etc.) as he was remodeling this home. We had a 2 week Window to help him with these items and told him so up front and there was an agreed time line between us and this Member in that regard When we showed up to do the work, many times this member had to ask us leave as there was another trade in the way of what we were trying to accomplish. Most Often, there was no courtesy of a prior notice of this until we were already there. He Agreed to an Hourly rate which he later recanted on and asked us to lower. We agreed to lower the rate to "Keep the Peace" and attempt to work with this member in a kind and genuine way. We had to finally pull away from the project as this member failed to understand the window of time the two parties agreed to and seemingly was really never prepared for our arrival to perform our tasks. In the end, he refused to pay the amount as agreed within the scope of the already reduced rate and we had to discount the final invoice an addl. $1,000.00 to get him to remit at all so we could just break even on what we did do for him. He indicated that this was acceptable to him and that all the work was fine and there was no need for any follow-up or improvement in that regard. Even given these circumstances, we would have if requested. It is not our history to show up and be incapable. When we were there, we performed the tasks to the best of our ability given the disorganized environment. We would always improve, correct or re-do any task if it was not to standards. We reviewed all the tasks performed with this member as they were completed and no such requests were presented to us. What more can any good company do? I find it distasteful, shameful and disingenuous to portray that he had to pay double when all we did was give discounts to placate this member and get away from the project at even a breakeven point. We wish this member well with his future contractors.

.Soon after my initial call to Stellar, Jack called to schedule an appointment for a quote. He was able to suggest several ideas to improve upon my plans for remodel. The quoted price was less than a quote I had obtained from another contractor even though the scope of work was larger. The master carpenters that did our work were exceptional. They were true craftsmen in all aspects of the project, plus they were hard working and personable. I had been worried that with such a large project the house would be in constant disarray but that was not the case. The crew always made sure to keep us updated as to progess and managed to keep the work areas cleaned up. Since our house is a log home it presented unique problems but the contractors were able to do an exceptional job inspite of the difficulty.
Description of Work: Remodel 3 bathrooms including master bath.

Stellar did a fantastic job. It was a little tricky with the colder weather and shorter days so the job took a little longer than expected. But they did a terrific work. I have already scheduled to get an estimate for their remodeling division.
Description of Work: Stellar painted the exterior of my house.
