In 1994, the Elder family opened their first auto repair shop in Denver, Virginia Village Texaco, located on the corner of Florida Ave and Holly St. Eventually outgrowing the original 3 bay gas station; a move to a larger 7 bay shop was made in 2005. Elder Auto opened at 4940 E Asbury Ave. Again our business quickly grew and in 2013 it was time for a move to a larger auto repair facility with 15 bays. Today, our business continues to thrive, and we now offer an extensive range of automotive repair services at our new location at 5555 E Evans Ave.

They were fairly good. The work was good, but the price is on the higher side so I always have to check. They originally quoted me $600-plus and then I looked around other places. I went back to them and showed them competing quotes then they gave me a price of $487 even though that was still more than the $400 price range I was getting from other folks. Because they had such high ratings on Angie's List I thought I would just stick with them.

I dropped the car off at 9am and requested to have the vehicle back by 4pm. The lady at the counter wrote that on the work order. Around four o'clock I called to see if the car was ready and I was put on hold for over 10 minutes, which normally means that somebody doesn't want to tell me something. Finally somebody picked up the line and asked who I was holding for and I explained I was checking on my car. After a few more minutes I was told they didn't have it done. Short staff apparently. I was told if I could leave it longer they could still get it done by the end of the day. But I needed the car by 4pm to pick up my grandsons to get them to basketball and football practice. They sent their driver for me and I got there to pick up my car. I got the key and was told they would have gotten the work done hadn't it been for my "time constraints." This is what upset me. I've used Elder Auto for several years and they do good work at a good price, and would highly recommend them. But, I did make a point to call a week ahead to get this work done. I feel that is kind of like a reservation. The four o'clock "constraint" was clearly marked on the work order. Obviously nobody looked at the work order before four o'clock. I think they should have once they realized they were getting behind and called me to tell me the work wouldn't be done unless I could leave the car longer. I will use Elder Auto again, but from this point forward I will have to make it very clear when I need my vehicle and demand they call me if they cannot get the work done. Being on hold over ten minutes is poor customer service and tossing the blame at the customer becuase they were short handed is even worse.
Description of Work: I scheduled a day to bring my car in to have the oil pan gasket replaced. While there I requested they change the driver's side headlight bulb. Although the car was there for seven hours, no work was done to the car.

Response from Elder Auto
[removed member name], All I can say is that I am very sorry for the inconvenience and the poor customer service, we definitely dropped the ball and there is no excuse for that. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention; I will definitely implement some changes to make sure my staff honors the committed requested time constraints of our customers. As well as better informing the customer on updates of how the repairs are going. The hold time you experienced is not acceptable and I will also address that with my staff, so this does not happen in the future. Again I am sorry and we do appreciate your loyalty. I reached out to Elder Auto via e-mail following reading their reviews on Angie's List. The owner, Ramon, responded back to me the same day and advised me to bring the vehicle in for a free estimate. I brought it in the morning of July 18, 2013, and it was looked at within an hour. Ken, one of the service advisers, came out and provided me a list of all the issues and pricing on each fix on individual estimates as well as explained each problem in English. I asked about the rack and pinion and what a previous auto shop said and he quickly discounted it but continued to listen to my concern. They drove the car again after I explained one of the additional sounds I've heard under tight turning and they confirmed it was the power steering pump and not the rack and pinion. Due to the number of issues with the vehicle, it had to stay overnight at the shop. They contacted me Friday, July 19, 2013, afternoon to let me know the vehicle was ready. I headed over to the shop, discussed the repairs and maintenance done on the vehicle with Ramon, and received the invoice. The vehicle sounded great, drove better, and the steering was much improved. The staff of Elder Auto reached out to me on Friday, July 26, 2013, to see how everything was working. The follow-up was wonderful! I discovered a small leak under the vehicle over the weekend. I, once again, reached out to Elder Auto via e-mail as they are closed on the weekend. Ramon responded that evening and told me to bring it in Monday, July 29, 2013, morning. I did. It was a minor leak caused by not tightening the bolts around the oil pan tight enough (you don't want to over tighten, they were being cautious). They tightened it up a little more and verified no leak. Excellent service! Excellent staff! Definitely the place to go for auto repair and maintenance.
Description of Work: Replaced the power steering pump, left front axle CV-joint, oil pan and oil filter housing, four wheel alignment, and an oil change.

I called around before finding Elder Auto to get some quotes and questions answered about the issue I was experiencing. When I called Elder Auto, the staff was very informative. Not only did he take the time to give me an estimate over the phone, he also schedule a time to bring the car in for a review of the condition of the a/c to provide a better estimate. When I brought the car in, they looked at the A/C and provided me more information as to what all needed to be fixed. The estimate was less than the original over the phone, but still very close. We then scheduled a time to have the A/C fixed. The website advertises a new customer discount. When I went to pick up the car, the discount had already been applied without my even having to ask for it. The over all total was actually less than the quote I received earlier. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the service and the staff. Very informative and friendly.

That was the first time I had been there. They were great, very nice, and they listened. The only problem was that it was really hard to park. It was in a neighborhood so parking was a challenge. They were honest. I wanted them to fix more and they said I did not need it. I did not felt that they were taking advantage of me because I was female because my husband was actually with me. I learned that lesson a long time ago. It was extremely a fair price. I was expecting a lot more.

It went very well. The dealership had quoted me a price of $2300.00, but Elder Auto did it for $800.00. There was one service, I believe it had something to do with head gaskets that the dealership had recommended, but Elder Auto felt was unnecessary. I was very pleased. They provided a shuttle for me to and from school, and they performed all the work within one day. The only unpleasant experience was that the brakes squeaked after they were replaced. Nevertheless, Mr. Elder looked at it and cleaned the brakes free of charge. I was pleased until the brakes started to squeak again. I'm just going to live with it until my next oil change, when I'll take the car back to Elder Auto.
Description of Work: I can't tell you of the top of my head what they did, but I do remember one thing: they replaced my brake pads and changed the oil. There was a lot of work done.

Good experience from start to finish. Had a Cadillac 2003 CTS that had not been driven much over the course of a year +, due to issues with the battery, electrical system. Needed an oil change. Asked them to look the car over, fix the A/C, and check the clutch. They came back with an estimate the next day. Their estimate on the A/C was about $500 less than what I'd gotten from a chain auto service shop. They had everything fixed and came in $50 under the estimate they gave me. Good experience all the way through - especially considering that by telling them the car hadn't been driven much over such a long period of time they probably could have "padded" the work required and I never would have known the difference. They are my auto shop going forward.

Very prompt. I brought it in at 4p the day before the appointment so it could be worked on first. They called me 15 minutes later with a diagnostic of what needs to be done, and will the next day. I really appreciated their promptness.
Description of Work: New Shocks, oil change, hoses, and computer chip. They were very professional and didn't add unnecessary things to my service. The tech even mentioned a couple other items but said he'd wait to do those in 6 month to a year. It's nice to know someone isn't just trying to nickel and dime you.

My daughter boyfriend called Elder Auto and from the conversation over the phone it was decide to take the car in, because the person listened, he asked questioned and seemed very knowledgeable about the problem. He setup a time for the next day. The work was done and when he went to pay he found that they had gone down $100.00 from the original quote. He felt the customer service was great and the car is running great. He is very pleased with the work they did. He would go back.

This was my first visit to Elder Auto--a friend had recommended them. I was very pleased with the experience. I made an appointment the day before, and left my car with them in the morning. They offered me a ride to work but I chose to take the 10-minute walk to the Colorado Boulevard light rail station instead. They called within an hour or two--I was busy and called them back an hour later. The tech mentioned two things to consider replacing before long, but there was no hard sell (really no "sell" at all). I got the call that the work was completed well before I had finished at work. When I picked it up, the cost was slightly less than the initial estimate, and the car is running fine. But here's the best part. I compared this work to the basically identical service I had done at 30K miles by another auto shop. Elder Auto charged more than $300 less than what I had payed almost 3 years ago! Elder Auto is now the shop I intend to use regularly.
Description of Work: Had the recommended 60K-mile service done on my Subaru. This includes flushing/replacing differential, cooling system, and brake fluid, replacing spark plugs, and many inspections.

Professional shop with needed equipment diagnosed our electrical problem right off, where others couldn?t figure it out. Auto repaired same day and for a very fair cost, which was discounted for a ?first time customer?. The entire staff was cordial, helpful & very professional. I?m just moving back to Denver and thanks to help of Angie?s list, have found our auto repair shop for next 20 years. I think the sly Mr. Elder and team have figured out that great service is good for their business. (O;? Jim Servaes

First long trip of the season for the family Suburban. Will be pulling race trailer to event. I needed more time than work was allowing to check her out before the trip. I knew that an A/C compressor was in need of being replaced. Truck was checked from front to back along with the compressor replacement. I used the time to prepair the bikes while I relied on Elder to make sure the truck got there.
Description of Work: A/C compressor on my 99 Suburban was shot. Compressor replaced. System re-charged. Several smaller items checked at the same time. Truck done in a timley mannor. This is the second time I have used Elder Auto. For someone who is used to doing his own work, I found them to be very professional in the way they do business. I was contacted with any changes before work was preformed and was kept apraised throughout the repairs. I will use them again.

considering the transmission locked up and 3 guys were unable to push it off Lincoln..and that it could have been more extensive damage. I glad Elders reputation was reflected on Angie's list so I could get my baby into trusted hands. The other big thing they did for me was arrange financing...this was an unexpected expense and I didn't want to use cash to pay for it. Thanks Elder.
Description of Work: They referred me to a third party towing company, which picked up my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and brought it to their shop. Fees were added to the bill which helped me out a lot. That was on a friday before the holiday weekend and I was told they wouldnt get to it until Tuesday....to me surprise 1st thing Monday morning Gerard called and told me the transmission lines were leaking and that those had to be changed before they could determine if there was further damage.... The next day Gerard called after thorough testing and said the transmission was fine, you can come get the car.

I am a woman with an 11 year old car, so I am accustomed to new mechanics giving me a laundry list of things that need to be fixed on my car immediately. This absolutely did not happen at Elder Auto. I took my car in to get the snow tires put on, and to have a mysterious bumping noise inspected. From beginning to end, both the mechanics and receptionist were polite, professional, and upfront about what was wrong with my car, what wasn't and even quoted a price that ended up being higher than the final bill. This never happens and it was such a nice surprise! The bumping noise was a rusted control arm which they replaced and they realigned my car as well. I will definitely take my car here again. I am so relieved that I found a mechanic who I trust to fix my car at a reasonable price. I highly recommend Elder Auto to all my friends and family - it's a great business and they're a pleasure to deal with!
