I have been with synergy for almost 3 years and originally started off because one of the owners is very charismatic and of course assured me that she would make sure that they would take care of everything. First tenants that were placed were a complete and utter disaster. As a new homeowner renting out their home for the first time, I panicked and i turned to them for help. I understand that they can't help what a tenant turns out to be like and so I accepted it and moved on. When I got the bill for the repairs I almost lost my mind. It took me almost 2 months until I threatened to leave before the owner finally got involved and we had to hash out what exactly needed to be repaired and negotiated prices. She offered to give me 2 months of management free and lower their cut to 10% if i stayed. well because we have a good friend that worked for them, we decided to stay and went for another year. the second tenants turned out to be much better at managing their finances, but when they too moved out, I got a fairly vague invoice stating that it would cost over $400 dollars to get the house back to working order. This is with good tenants in the house! when I asked why in the world it was so expensive the owner Dodi said that it was because there was a leak and it ruined the ceiling, and they had to replace dry wall and spackle and it took 8 hrs total for full repairs. Now this particular repair was the same one that I was charged for when the disaster tenants moved out and now i was getting charged for it again. So when I confronted her and another co-worker I was told that it was regular wear and tear. This exchange by the way between me and the owner was being handled through its last stages by email. I asked her to please call me, but instead she emailed me again. I wrote one last email stating that from now on I wanted absolutely no repairs done what so ever without my written consent. unless of course there is an emergency. I resolved that she was not going to call me (I am in the Army and I am in Ohio while my home is in colorado springs) I couldn't confront this in person. I left the issue alone for a couple of weeks to give her some time to broach the subject again, but I couldn't wait any longer. I called today and one of the employees tried as she might to say that she didn't know what I last told the owner and that she would be happy to make the changes. I explained to her that I was having trouble understanding why i was paying so much for a job that her company supposedly fixed. So as I saw it it was either the maintenance team that failed to do it right, or the previous tenant was at fault. In either case, I thought that's what a deposit was for. I will not be cutting the lease early because I signed an agreement and I will stick to it until the end of it, but i see a pattern of overcharging on repairs that don't last or were poorly done. $481 to tighten some door knobs, fix a patch of drywall and repair a pipe that was supposedly fixed by them only a year ago, seems way too much. I've done construction for years in my youth and I would never in my life say that its possible that it could possibly take that long let alone cost that much. I would strongly recommend to stay away from this company. When the owner herself prefers to have such an important exchange over email as opposed to at the very least a phone call, it should be obvious that the owner's needs are not important. This has been a horrible experience and I am only hoping that the next company will not be any where near this difficult to deal with. Stay away.
