I called Samsung to request repairs for my freezer; I was referred to Fox Engineering. The secretary returned my call; unfortunately our schedules were not matching for 3 weeks out. I had asked if my friend who is staying at my house could let the repairman in and I would leave a check with him. She specifically asked if I wanted a call before he arrived at which point I told her no as I would be at work without my cell. On 8-27-13 I get a call on my work phone from the technician. He tells me they no longer make my refrigerator and the part he needs has to be special ordered, if he can get it and that the total cost with repair is $345. I hear nothing else for the rest of the day until I leave and check my voicemails. The technician says he is outside my house and that if he doesn't hear back from me within 10 minutes he is leaving. I get home from work to find out from my friend all the antics that went on. To start off the appointment the guy walks up to the door and starts going off rudely about how he's been standing at the door for 10 minutes waiting for someone to answer it. I have 3 large dogs that jump and bark when someone walks past the front of the house let alone up to the door. As my friend shows him into the kitchen the technician says he cant move the fridge and all items must be out of the freezer. He gets my work # from my friend and proceeds to call me before even touching the fridge. After the phone call with me he opens the freezer door and leaves it open, walking in and out of the house multiple times for about 20 minutes. Apparently this was the defrosting time, I have a frost free freezer. He then comes back inside and places a call to the Samsung Technical Support. My friend was able to hear both sides of the conversation. They walk him through the diagnostic process where they are able to diagnose a sensor temp-defrost wire malfunction. Conveniently the technician goes out to his truck and brings back in the replacement wire and plugs it in. I arrive home and see my freezer is working much to my surprise. The last I had heard it was a special order back. My friend then fills me in on everything that happened and hands me the receipt. The receipt was not easy to read and had no itemization on it just a subtotal for $345 even though the special order part was not needed. I called first thing the following morning; I get the message and have to wait for a return call. So my first question to the lady was about the call. Did we not agree the technician would just show up and not call? She told me yes in fact she had put on the work order do not all ahead. I then asked her to please explain the charges on the invoice. She informed me she couldn't tell based on the invoice she would have to talk to the technician/owner and find out the breakdown & call me back. I specifically asked how I was told it was a special order part that he did not have to a part which was in his truck yet the price did not change. She did call me back the following day to inform me that $90 was just for the technician to show up & perform diagnostics. The part that I had needed was $60 and the rest was due to labor. I said $195 for labor for less then an hour worth of work to plug in a wire? She said "he's normally only there for 15 minutes but he was there almost an hour" I informed her that I felt this was very much a bait and switch game. I had contacted Samsung and was able to order the exact same part for $8.05. I requested an itemized receipt I could actually read to be mailed to me. She informed me that it was the owner who came out and that set the prices and that nothing would be changing. I told her I was very unhappy with the service and price. My husband called to try and speak with the owner the following day and has yet to get a call back. My husband also tried to drive down to the location listed and the business is not there. The only address on the receipt is a PO Box. As of right now this is the only service repair for any Samsung refrigerator warranty repair in Colorado Springs. I have called and submitting the same complaint with Samsung in the hopes that no one else will be taken as we were.
