Lots of bumps in the road to finally get the work done. Had an appointment for a Thursday afternoon. No one showed up and when I called the company, they had already switched over to the answering service who was unable to get me any information regarding my appt and told me to call the next day. Called on Friday, they apologized for the missed appt and said they could send a tech out that same afternoon between 2pm-4pm. At 4:30pm the tech called and said he was running late and finally showed up at 5pm. At this point my painters were trying to wrap up their day and they were in the way of the electrician and vice versa. However, the painters were professional and understanding of the situation. The electrician..not so much. He made several irritated comments about how they were in the way, he HAD to be able to get in and out of the house and get access to his truck (which I didn't understand, you know what tools and equipment you need...bring them all in the house with you). Overall he was not pleased that he had to work around the painters. But...this would not have been an issue if he had arrived at the initial appt for the day before. His mistake was not my problem and I didn't appreciate the attitude he brought with him. Additionally, the electrician had come to the house a few weeks prior for an estimate and told us exactly what he would need to do, what parts he would need, etc. But the day of the job he tells us he doesn't have the right kind of light box for our beams so instead of installing the correct box against the beams, he installed a cheap one that sat on the ceiling. Not what we wanted and not what we agreed to. He also said he would remove the old can lights and provide light covers for them until we were ready to fully uninstall them. He didn't remove the lights and did not bring any covers with him. I originally selected American Electric because even though they charged more than others, I felt the knowledge of the technician was outstanding. But based on the install experience I wouldn't hire them again. There are too many other competitors on the market to put up less than stellar service.

The technician arrived on time, and did the work correctly. The price was fine. My issue is that he claimed that my circuit breaker wasn't to code (150 Amp vs. 200 Amp) and running hot, and that he recommended replacing the switches and outlets throughout the house (because the wiring is 17 years old and coming loose) and that we should get a whole home surge suppressor. He told me I shouldn't wait because all of this was a fire hazard!!! So I got a different company out. This tech showed me the panel, the switches and how there isn't an issue. He told me that copper wiring isn't very susceptible to changes in size and hardness due to temperature and that it simply doesn't come loose. The surge suppressor was also overkill in my situation. He told me it is all too common to up sell using scare tactics and try to get customers to buy services they don't need. Understand, too, that the second company could've won the business by simply beating the price of American Electric, so it was not in their best interest to give me this education. American Electrician's attempt to take advantage of my situation is simply not OK. I recommend that buyer beware.

They went above and beyond in the installation and ceiling repair work needed after the new fan was installed. Also very timely in turnaround.

Get an estimate in writing before they start the work so that there are no surprises (a good practice with any contractor).

This electrical company was a little pricey for the quantity of work completed. However, the electrician was knowledgeable and corrected some confusing wiring that had been done to the house when built. I would hire this company again without hesitation.

This project got off to a rocky start. Home Advisor directed me toward an electrician for installing, wiring and venting a new exhaust fan. American Electric office said they could do that, while Dean, the electrician, said we needed an HVAC person not an electrician, but he would do it for us. The office said the electrician would do the install the day of the appointment. Not true. We were becoming more uncomfortable with our choice, so had Dean do the wiring and install and we did the venting. Dean directed the roofing company to put the roof vents for 2 bathrooms in while they were reroofing the house. 1 vent was in a good location. Dean directed the other vent to be put in over the garage--over a 20 foot run from the bathroom. We didn't find this out til after Dean had left and we were in the attic preparing to vent the fan. Wiring was done (the fan worked when you flipped the switch), but the installation job was poor. The unit was hanging from 1 bracket resting on a joist--nothing was screwed in or secured in any fashion. The unit sagged by the time we did the venting. When Dean was done, we were missing 2 installation brackets and all the screws that came with the fan (we had bought the fan separately, so the unused parts should have stayed with us. Had to complain to the company. They did send out a service manager, Kevin, who had no problem going into the attic. He was polite, listened well, and secured the fan properly to the joists. We now have no fear the unit will drop out of the ceiling. 5 star rating on the work of the service manager. 1 star rating on the work of the electrician who said he could do the job but really couldn't. A very frustrating experience with Home Advisor directing us to an electrician vs a handyman type and with American Electric saying the entire project was within the scope of their electrician and would be done on the same day. The only saving grace was the service manager.

Same day service! The electrician called when he was headed my way and when he realized the installation was easier than expected he discounted the estimate by $50.

Dean was very professional and knowledgeable. Immediately knew what to do with my poorly wired switches, addressed not only my main issue which was no lighting in my foyer but addressed a few other switch issues that I had been living with for years. Now when I hit the light switch, the right light goes on without turning something else off. I would definitely use this company again and refer to others, thank you Dean.
