A-1 Garage Door Service

Had a problem with the garage door opening. It sounded like the motor stalled. I called A-1 and they came out even though Pasadena was out of their area of service. They service mostly south bay - Torrance/Gardena/PV. Anyway the problem was immediately diagnosed and taken care of is less that 2 hours. They installed a new " Liftmaster", and helped me program my car to open the garage door, and installed a new touch pad on the outside of the garage. Which comes in handy when I take the dogs for a walk, no need to carry the opener/clicker. The service was excellent, prompt, and professional. Price was fair. I would highly recommend them, because I felt I could trust them and that they evaluated what the problem was quickly and helped come up with good remedy.

Our nearly 30 year old, wooden garage door would not open. Upon closer inspection, one of the torsion springs broke. Found Frank on Angie's List. Called at 9:00 am (Monday) and Frank answered. I told him what was going on. He asked how soon I needed him. I said ASAP. He said that he was just finishing a job and would be right over. He arrived 20 minutes later (sooner than I expected). He got my garage door open. After inspecting everything, informed me that the torsion springs in place were not the correct ones. He said that he would replace with the correct springs. Replace the torsion shaft if needed. Check the bearings, tighten hinges, lube and adjust. He also said that he would repair/reinforce a section. By doing all of this, he figured that I could get another few years out of this door. I was fully prepared to have a new door and opener installed and let him know I was willing to go that route if that was what his recommendation was going to be. He opted to save me money. So, Frank basically showed up FAST and instead of getting an easy sale on a new door and opener he did a simple repair. How's that for service!

Frank was easy to contact he came over to the house inspected the garage and gave me an estimate within one hour of my call. I authorized the work on the spot and he finished the work in the same afternoon. I am very happy with the installation and repair.

Everything went smoothly and easily with A-1. We have had the door now since October (nearly 10 months) and the product is great; no problems at all. I'm really glad I used A-1 for this project. Fast response to my initial call; got an estimate right away. The estimate was fair based on what I had read on Angie's List and on other sites. (Not the cheapest but a fair price for a good product and service by a reputable technician.) On the day of installation: Total time was about 3 hours. I was disappointed that they didn't mention to me that the slope to my driveway would create a 2 inch gap on the right, bottom corner of my door. I noticed it when they were done; they came back the next day and put a long weatherstrip on the bottom of the door that now fills the gap (keeping out the bugs, most of the rain water, etc. (It's a short-term fix, but it is working.)

It Took awhile to get an initial call back and another call to request someone to come out and give me a quote. My garage door is a non standard size and in a tight space that doesn't make it an easy job. The guys to came but to measure were nice enough but suggested framing the opening a bit smaller to avoid have to cut down a larger size door. It then took almost a week to get a quote and was going to take another 4 weeks to custom order the door. In the end I went with another company. Nice enough guys and it may have been a completely different situation if my door was a more standard setup.

My garage door clicker stopped working. Looked for a provider on Angie's List and saw all the great reviews that Frank at A-1 got. Called him and he came over right away to evaluate. This was a saturday morning. He told me that my Clicker-brand remote was an add-on to my 30-year old original garage door opener and he recommended that i either replace the opener mechanism or replace the add-on component. I opted to replace the add-on component as i will someday replace the entire garage door (currently a tilt-up) with a new roll up kind. Frank came back on MOTHER'S DAY SUNDAY to do the work himself since that's when I was available. I appreciated that so much. He got the new Lift Master remote clicker working (which was a challenge with older door and mechanism) and a week later, he consulted with me on the phone to get my car's remote opener synced up with the Lift Master box. Frank was professional, punctual, helpful, and did exactly what he said he would do. He was great and i would recommend him and his services to others.

Things couldn't have gone more smoothly. Tuesday afternoon I called Frank for an estimate. He came over on Wednesday and wrote up the contract agreement. I decided on a door with all the extras. It was determined that Frank's crew needed to do some work on the door jamb and remove the old garage light before installing the new door. Frank's workers arrived on time at 8:00 AM and installed a very attractive garage door by noon. The estimate was right on. They helped me program the key pad and showed me how the emergency release works. They hauled away the old door. All I have to do is put a coat of paint on the new wood they added to the door jamb. I couldn't be more pleased with the new door.

Frank is awesome! He has now fixed my old garage door twice (and I will be calling him again to get a new one installed!). He is very flexible with appointment times (has helped me before and after normal work hours) and is quick at getting the job done.

I called A1 garage door first thing in the morning and Frank explained to me what work needed to be completed and suggested I replace both springs although one torsion springs was split since the other one may split as well. Frank quoted me $250 to replace both springs which was $65 for labor and $185 for parts. Frank arrived early and did the job quickly. His invoice was exactly what he quoted over the phone.

Called them at 10:00 am they were here by 10:15 and the work was completed by 11:30. Great customer services, very good prices. If I could give them higher than excellent I would!

The experience was A+. They gentlemen were very professional and competent.

This was quick because we needed him to fix a problem that another company caused. I watched them repair it, if you can, always stay and observe what they do. He tightened springs and replaced a battery in the safety monitor that prevents the door from closing if an object is in the way.

I called on a Sunday morning and over the phone from my description of the problem Frank assessed that the capacitor needed to be replaced. He came to my home on that same afternoon, confirmed the assessment, replaced the capacitor, and also sold me a spare remote when I asked if he could. I could not have been more pleased with the responsiveness, quality, and cost of the service.

My new garage door was in place within two business day. His installation team was courteous, prompt and very detail oriented. Our new garage door looks great.

I called Frank to repair a garage door that was not closing. He made an appointment to come out before regular hours to accommodate me and was prompt, efficient, friendly and thorough. I recommend him highly. He did not charge extra for the early morning service call.

Frank actually answered when I called and came out the same day. He checked everything out and suggested a larger spring to save strain on the door and lengthen its life. There were also bent roller on the sides. He came two days later with the new springs which he installed as well as fixing the bent rollers and lubricating every moving part. Now I have a very quiet and smooth opening garage door. Thanks, Frank.....

I called on a Saturday and Frank came out within an hour. He came prepared to do repairs (another company did not) and stayed about an hour doing a complete inspection and discussion options with me. He wrote up the quote and said that door was not in his stock and needed to be ordered. The door came in the early part of the date range Frank provided (late on a Friday) and we set up the installation for the following Monday. The crew (two plus himself) arrived on time and finished about an hour earlier than expected. They did a very professional job and I am very happy with the door.

Our garage door stopped closing after one of our workmen cleaned out the garage with a hose. Called Frank on a Sunday and he came out within the hour. Immediately diagnosed it as a bad photo cell that probably got wet during the cleaning. The garage door would have worked as it has at that point, but we had been planning to replace the door due to multiple tears in the panels and some bad hardware. Frank assessed it and said that it wasn't necessary to replace the whole door since the tracks were still good, but gave his expert opinion on what needed to be replaced and reinforced. A new door would have costed $800+ to replace, but Frank said he could replace all the panels, hardware, etc. for $575. He came out and did the repair the very next day after ordering parts. Honestly, the end product is nothing short of a brand-new door, and he used a door that is way more sturdier and high quality than the previous one we had. He even showed me what kind of lube to use to maintain the door and where to lubricate. Frank is truly an expert, and a professional. Will definitely be using him again if something goes wrong (..probably not for many years..) I highly recommend him to anyone having garage door problems.

We initially used A-1 to perform service on our one-piece, solid wood garage door in October. Frank was really responsive and solved the problem right away. At the time, we inquired about the cost of replacing the door since it was always something that we wanted to do. The cost was very reasonable. The door was a custom order because of the wider than normal width of our garage so it took a little longer to manufacture. Once the door was available, Ben and his team showed up, removed the old door, and installed the new one in roughly 5 hours. We are very pleased with the work performed and the new garage door. Frank came out and looked at the door and gave me an estimate. He did not charge the usual service fee for showing up since I told him I was looking for quotes. I decided to go with Frank and made the appointment at a convenient time for me. His team arrived and started working on the door immediately. Frank arrived a little later to confirm the job was being done right. When they realized that it was a particularly heavy door, Frank went and got stronger springs. Frank then left and the repairs were done quickly and efficiently. A couple of days later there was a problem with the door not properly aligning and I called Frank back to do an adjustment. He arrived at the appointed time and determined that it was not the door but my plants that were not trimmed properly. The door has been working fine ever since. I appreciated the professionalism of both Frank and his team.

Frank came to check my garage door which seemed to be shorting, going up and down on its own. He told me the part to fix the old Genie motor was no longer made, so I would need a new motor. My door was in poor shape, and I agreed to have him install a new door and mechanism; however, I should have gotten other estimates. The door they brought was poorly made. A metal joint at the bottom was off by 3/4" in a very visible place. Frank and his excellent installer, Ben, came the next week. They took out the old, split frame and molding on the right side and put in new. I was unhappy because the wood was not cut to fit the slanted indentation in the floor and was smashed on the main edge. I was told it didn't matter because most of the weight of the frame was carried by the nails that held it up. I must fill the 1/2 x 2" space with some cement or something. The door was up before I could see it, and I noticed the bad joint. Frank said he could not fix it. I was unhappy that he had brought me this door. He offered to replace my old door, but it was long gone. I could do nothing. When the new door was up, I noticed it hung low on one side, and it was raised up on the other so the rubber did not touch the garage floor. I was told that was the best they could do, since the opening was not perfectly square. We discussed this, and Ben tried to lower the door. Then the upper pattern that showed was quite low on the left. I was not satisfied but had to leave for a doctor's appointment. Frank called and made a final appointment for Monday. He and Ben returned with a strip to cover the pattern problem at the top. and inserted a piece of rubber inside another to keep light/dirt from going in under the door. I appreciate the adjustments but remain unpleased due to Frank's ongoing attitude of just wanting to get it done and get paid before the door was the best it could be.

They were excellent! They were very quick and were very punctual. They even called to tell me when they were coming and they showed up right on time. They explained everything very thoroughly and were very polite and nice. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anybody! I thought the price was reasonable and the best part was, they came out the same day I called for service...amazing! I give A 1 Garage Doors an A+++++! I highly recommend this company.

Automatic garage door spring and pulley system came undone late afternoon. I called them early evening (5PM-ish) A-1came out within an hour and fixed the door. Also replaced bent hinges, aligned door and release lock. Rates were reasonable especially considering it was a late emergency. I would use them again and again.

We'll call again if we need a garage door repaired or a new garage door!

We called about three different garage door companies to get a price quote to fix our garage door. Frank came out the day I called and looked everything over and tried to fix the garage door and the opener. After several tries to fix the garage door he determined it was installed incorrectly and the garage door opener would probably need to be replaced in a few months. We decided to replace the garage door altogether to get a something lighter and quieter. He and his crew came out and had the job done in less than a day. I never felt he was trying to push us to buy a new garage door and opener. He truly tried to fix it and said he could probably fix it but could not guarantee that he could get all the parts the next time it breaks due to the opener being discontinued. Frank installed the new garage door in a way which would not require removing shelves and cutting into the dry wall. The other two garage door companies were either more expensive or would require us to remove shelving. I felt Frank was very honest and trustworthy; it is obvious he takes a lot of pride in his work.
