A $99 deal was purchased for a 10 point inspection of my yard. A young professional showed up on time. He took some notes, played with a few sprinklers. He was supposed to email to me a list of recommendations/upgrades that would address the problemsregarding the exterior part of the house. Never heard from him or his company.

They came out and proved very professional and knowledgable. We have not executed the plans just yet, but we may at some point later on. We did get the impression that the Deal was a doorway to a larger job for them.

Great ideas for plants. Had them come out as landscape designer using Angie's List big deal. About a week later, supplied drawings with specific plants. Didn't use them as their estimate was $30,000. Used some of the ideas and did it all for 1/10 of that price.

The first Pacific Outdoor Living designer we met with passed our job onto another designer because they thought the project was not big enough for them. We liked the second designer better, so that worked out. However, after we approved the designer's plans, we were passed off to a landscape team, who doesn't seem to interact efficiently, if at all, with the designer. The plan was very poorly executed with key elements, like steps, not built to code. After holding back last payment, they very begrudgingly came back to "fix" the problem, but didn't. We had to hire another group to come in and rebuild the stairs. We are bidding out the landscaping again because many of the plants they planted have not survived and we need to redo the irrigation since it was done poorly. I believe they have a few landscape teams and your satisfaction with the company may depend upon which crew you are assigned. Ours didn't follow the plans designed by their company.

I thought I was going to get a more detailed report with recommendations and suggestions. There were a few points provided but not much "actionable intelligence." The person who came out seemed very knowledgeable but its clear they don't bother themselves with any project under $5,000. This $99 deal was a "loss leader" to try to identify customers more so than a service per se. I have nothing bad to say about their work as I suspect its probably quite good---for those who have the budget for it.

The result was simply beautiful! People we never met before are stopping by to tell us how fantastic it looks. They handled the sales/negotiation process very professionally and did not try to nickle and dime us to death with each of the details we requested. They truly aimed to please. Pacific Paving was initially one of the most expensive and we had almost ruled them out, but we had a good feeling from our research that their work would be excellent. We had 3 other estimates that were considerably less (approx $5K-$10K less). We are so happy we didn't go with one of the cheaper ones. We paid way more than we imagined, but after seeing all the work they had to do we understand why. As always, once a job starts there's always surprises that no one could anticipate. We were no exception. Had we selected any other company we are pretty sure they would never have handled these issues with the professionalism, skills and experience that Pacific Paving did. Of course it may be several years before we truly know if we have any issues, but so far we feel very confident in the work that was done. Due to the weight of the RV they had to excavate approximately 12" and take special measures for drainage. Upon removing our concrete and excavating they discovered a very wet and mushy sub base. Then the drainage presented it's own issues with our downward sloped driveway (toward the house). There were some other surprises as well, but they never complained or used that as an opportunity to charge us more. They were professional and detail oriented every step of the way. Pacific Paving was super accomodating, super honest and they were totally focused on making us happy. This is a first class operation and we would certainly recommend them to our friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: We had a large (approx 2600 sq. ft) driveway of 1/2 concrete and 1/2 dirt. Our number one concern was something that would support the weight of a large RV and/or other large vehicles as there is no street parking and all service trucks park in our driveway. Of course we also wanted something that looked nice. We installed over 2600sf of pavers with a circular design pattern in the center and a beautiful double border of solid gray. For the interior we mixed 3 different color blends. We researched several paver companies and decided on Orco for their unique color blends. They were a bit more expensive but better selection.

Pacific Outdoor Living is the BEST! We got pavers for our driveway and they look FANTASTIC!!Brian came out on a Saturday to give an estimate to me and my husband. They are the only company that tried to accommodate meeting us both. He explained everything in detail cause we were not sure of stamped concrete or pavers at first. The crew was professional, fast and thorough! My neighbors were extremely impressed as well. The job was done in 3 days and looks fantastic. We could NOT BE HAPPIER! Use these guys, you will not be sorry!!

This was a classic example of one hand not knowing what the other is doing. We live in the Hollywood Hills and are attempting to get our large parking pad redone with pavers. Lots of people in our canyon neighborhood have them. Didn't seem like it would be a problem. The first person (from another company) who came out never called us back after his initial visit. We then called POL . Salesman came out. Had a nice discussion, showed us samples. Showed him the view from the back of our house, which clearly demonstrated that the house was built on a downslope. Front of house is on a slab foundation. But he didn't ask about any of that. His estimate was very fair (we had another one in the same price range). He was concerned about a curb and noted that the cost might increase if they ran into problems there. Also, he said the street asphalt would have to be repaired, at a cost of about $200-300. One of the reasons we got a good price is because he asked if we could have the work done the following week (we saw him on a Thursday). He called the office to see if they needed to fill in jobs that week, and they apparently said yes. So he gave us an additional $200 discount (along with the $500 Angie's List discount). He said scheduling would contact us. Didn't hear Friday or Monday. Called Tuesday. Said they would get back to us. They called on Thursday and said they could be out there the following Monday. Great.Salesman came back to the house to confirm details. Moved all plants from front in preparation. Arranged with neighbors to park (no street parking). Monday at 7 a.m. (they were going to be there at 8 a.m.), we get a call from a crew supervisor who drove by the property over the weekend and said there were going to be more problems and more cost than the salesman had suggested, and that they couldn't start at least until that afternoon after he had met with some people. Someone would call us later that day (the day we were supposed to start work). Nope. Or the next day. We called again. This time we got a response from a crew supervisor who had actually had experience in the hills. (The salesman had bragged that they had 16 or 17 crews, and I suggested on the phone that at least one of these crews must have had experience in the hills.) He came out to the house and met with my husband who showed him the blue prints for the house. He said because of the width of our street (2 lanes, no sidewalks), they would have to bring in two small machines instead of one large one. That would mean two crews. He also said that because it appeared that the part of the cement in front of the house was not supported by foundation, they could not go all the way to the front door with the pavers. He did not make any suggestions to do anything aesthetically to blend in the original cement that would be left. He also said that the cement going under the asphalt in the street would create greater damage to the street than originally anticipated. So the price of the project went up $1500 for the additional crew and machine and, to my amazement, he said it would be $1500 to repair the asphalt. (The original quote was $9500, so this was almost a 30% increase.) My husband relayed the information to me, and we agreed that this was beyond our budget. Plus, I no longer had any faith that these guys knew what they were doing. I can understand having to pay an extra crew for an extra machine ($1500 for a 3 day project seemed steep, however). But to go from $200-300 for the asphalt to $1500 for the asphalt was a real shocker. Although all of his concerns may have been legitimate, it was information we should have had long before the work was actually scheduled to begin. They invested a lot of man hours (2 visits by the salesman, 2 visits by different crew supervisors), as did we. At the end, it seemed like they really just didn't want to do the job. This is something they could have told us if a construction person had visited the site before the work was scheduled, instead of after. To add insult to injury, our deposit check of $500 was cashed, and it took us 3 phone calls to get a refund two weeks after it had been cashed.
Description of Work: Wanted to replace existing cement parking pad in front of house with pavers.

I am a perfectionist and I wanted everything perfect. I got more than I asked for. The job is perfect with incredible attention to detail. Whenever an unforeseen problem appeared, they were already solving it. The job was completed in five days without interruption. They cleaned up everyday. The workers were friendly and easy to talk to. All of my concerns were promptly resolved. I cannot imagine a better company to do business with. All calls were returned promptly. I have never been so enthusiastic about a construction company as I am about Pacific PavingStone. They take great pride in their quality of construction work. They offer a discount to Angie's List members. I shopped the price and they were the lowest of all the competition with excellent references. We went and looked at several homes before we chose Pacific PavingStone. There were no surprise additional charges. The salesman was extremely helpful in selecting color and design. They are a family business and they understand that quality workmanship is important. I heartily recommend Pacific PavingStone Company.
Description of Work: We had a 26,000 square foot circular concrete driveway removed and replaced with Olsen antique cobble paving stones. The job included demolition and removal of all existing concrete. A base of sand was provided and graded. Demo & rebuild front landing with bullnose steps and paver inset:

Their designer, Kathy, was fantastic. I truly thought that they would send somebody out for 30 minutes, but Kathy's initial consultation was about 3 hours long. She listened to me ramble about what I like and don't like. She traipsed around my yard in the drizzling rain, and was fantastic. Her second consultation was about two hours, and her plans were really good. She listened to my changes, and remeasured my yard. The third and final consultation was great. There was not too much pressure to get them to do the work. She understood that I just wanted the designs. A+
Description of Work: I purchased a coupon for their services for Landscape Design. My plan was to have them do the blueprints for a new yard, and then do the work myself. The bid was in the price range that I told them, but I know that I can do the work myself.

They were very efficient and got the whole job done in 5 days. I was impressed with the demolition crew, masons and step-building people. They called me when they encountered the sewer pipes to see if it would be ok to move the steps 4" over before proceeding. The designers created a nice design, were communicative with me and were flexible with my changes of plants and knowledgable about the plants. But after they made the sale and I signed on the dotted line, I never saw them again and they didn't ever come to the job site. That was disappointing. The project manager was on site briefly the first few mornings after demolition, but also disappeared after plants were planted. He didn't go over the plants with me and how to care for them, how often to water, etc. The financing aspect was easy; they have a person for that. The quality control people were on it, inquiring if everything was ok. But here is where the problem came: for some unknown reason, the guy who laid the pavers, didn't get the exact shape on the design, so when I came home to see the basic shape, I told him it wasn't the same. he tried to delineate with tubing and pavers how he could fix it but all the options he demonstrated never matched the form on the design. I felt pressured, him saying also that they did need to finish things up this week, he would need to re-do the whole upper part in order to get the form, and they didn't have enough pavers for that, and they may get in trouble from the company for not being done on time. he was patient, and i thought, ok, it'll probably be ok, so I gave the go ahead. It was nice, but not what was designed. I tried to live with it, but asksd the company for a discount of a mere $500 because I felt I was compromising. (I already felt I was compromising because I didn't get any boulders, nor a timer for the water system for the slightly negotiated price). James was then sent out to investigate and he proceeded to tell me about why it wouldn't be 100% possible to achieve the shape, that the company would eventually only pay $250 for labor just to get it fixed and therefore would only offer me $250 discount. Eventually he "graciously" upped that to $350, but I held firm, explaining that $500 was only 5% of the total cost I paid, and one other estimate I got to fix it was $1000 and I was happy to get more. (Even $500 isn't as much as I honestly think I deserve for their guy not even being able to form the pathway on the design? It was a simple off-center Y shape), After meetings, emails, phone calls, energy and time spent over 2 weeks, he finally agreed to the $500 discount. I got the feeling he just didn?t want to back down because of ego. I say this only because it's hard for me to believe this company would literally waste his and my time over $250 more than what he suggested as a compensation. He was even supposed to bring a few replacement plants ? 2 big orange ones and 1 small red one ? but instead brought 2 big red ones and 2 small yellow ones. When I told him those were the wrong ones and I didn?t want them, he proceeded to try to convince me that small red ones I already have will grow large like the large ones he brought, but I told him that I had the dwarf variety. Also, he was the person that the company sent to explain to me how to take care of my very expensive drought tolerant garden. He said to water every day. I?m incredulous. I said, well maybe for the first couple months?? And he insisted, no, that?s how to take care of it. He was polite and nice of course, but I?m not sure how competent in that area. I was more disappointed with the company and how they handled the situation, not by him, who may have been just doing his job as customer complaint resolutionist. But come on - $350?!?!?! This company doesn?t have the one-on-one close customer relation ? it just felt like a Home Depot of gardenscape in terms of client relations.

Wow. Their quote was more than 25 percent higher than the next lowest quote. The salesperson said that they wouldn't adjust the price unless we decreased the scope of work, but couldn't explain why it was so much higher than everyone else's. We also had to call a couple of times to schedule someone to come out for an estimate. I've seen their work at a friend's, and it's well done, but I guess our job was too small for them. We also used their landscaping service for an initial design, but what we received (and ended up paying for) was far far less than was promised. Really disappointing.

Originally installed the paver in my driveway several years ago. It needs repair espcially where roots have raised the driveway. Have called several times and left messages trying to have someone come out and give me an estimate. The estimate guy James, does not return calls. Apparently this is either too small or they don't like repairs just new installs.
