I contacted Brenda a while after buying an Angies Deal. I hoped that buying a coupon from Angie's would add a bit of professionalism to the job. Angie's wouldn't let a bad bussiness offer a Daily Deal, would they?! ( Don't worry, I am not that gullible ) But it did mean that I wasn't picking someone out of the Yellow pages I wrote to Brenda about 2 weekes before I wanted a cleaning done. And gave her some dates/times that would work for me. I received a reply after not too long. I stipulated that I only really wanted 2 rooms cleaned, this time. Our kitchen and our bathroom, which really 2 small rooms as that was the way our house was built. I gave her approx. sizes of the rooms and Brenda gave a small adjust to the amount that would be charged over the Angies Deal price. I was happy with that too. Two women showed up on time on the appointed day. I asked if either of them spoke english and one said she did..in very broken english. It was hard to tell if she really spoke english or not. She generally just nodded or shook her head when asked a question So language was a little bit of a barrier. I decided to show them the areas to clean, which were much smaller than they expected I think. I could tell they did not want to screw up as they checked twice about what they were to clean. I liked that. One small issue that really was my fault... I didn't ask before hand as to whether they would provide the cleaning products or if I was to have products here. I am sure that with the abundance of options and many people wanting to have things cleaned with products that have been vetted, this can be a problem. I saw them looking under the sink and like places and realized that they brought some but not all products. I showed them where things were and then went to another room where I would be out of their way but close by in case there was a problem . There were no problems. In fact they did a great job! The rooms they cleaned were spic and span!. They had even cleaned the fridge. Which was quite a job! I don't know that they always do that, but I believe they had some time left over after having done the basic cleaning. The Angies Deal was for a specific amount of time. I was impressed that they didn't just stop when the basics where done. That they found some detail stuff to keep them there until their time was up. Great job in my mind. I plan to use Brenda's housecleaning again. Though I will ask about cleaning products this time.

(This is a review of a simple phone conversation regarding a request for services, not for services rendered.) I called Brenda's to ask for an in-person estimate of a one-time deep-cleaning (although smallish) job needed in an apartment. The first problem I ran into was being told that estimates were not given in-person for San Francisco. Although surprised (it seems the company has been around long enough and does enough business in SF to be able to arrange a drop-in at some point?), I might understand it for a perhaps "too-small" job such as this, if explained a bit (which wasn't done). But after I described what I was looking for (for a phone estimate), the phone personnel (sorry, forgot to get her name) said Brenda's didn't do this kind of work and suggested I look in the Yellow Pages for a janitorial service. I was startled and confused for a few reasons: 1) I'm not looking for janitorial (which I briefly mentioned), but rather an apartment setting cleaning;2) I replied that the Angie's list ad and/or the website indicated that they indeed did provide what I was looking for, to which she replied: nothing. My request was for a move-out cleaning of an 11x11 room that a tenant recently vacated. The room desperately needs the walls & ceilings washed of cigarette smoke. This was what I was told could not be provided for. But! The site promotions indicate the following: (italics/bolding mine) "What work will be done? The housecleaner will take care of all your cleaning needs including vacuuming, cleaning floors, dusting, changing linens, all the 'wet" washing in the kitchen and bathroom and, most important of all, the things you request to be done." " Special requests are no problem! " "Services Include ... Moving In/Out ... Deep Cleaning ... Construction Clean-Up ... Emergency Clean-Up Services Do Not Include ... We offer all cleaning services, we have none that are not offered." Although the phone personnel was courteous, I hope it's apparent why I'm writing this discouraged and disappointed review of even a 5 minute phone call seeking services. Businesses! Do not engage in false advertising! It's not only confusing, but a waste of the consumer's time, unethical, and bad for your busines, wouldn't you agree?

Dear customer, We would be happy to service your home, no matter how small or large. We do special projects frequently as advertised, as long as they are within our field. Our field is limited to housecleaning. We are housecleaning professionals. The request that you made is done via Janitorial companies for a few reasons. One is that cigarette smoke has oils in it. These oils embed themselves within the pores of the walls and ceilings. The way to remove the smoke oils from inside the pores of the paint is through a machine system that suctions all the air out of the home, and recirculates with new clean filtered air. In some cases this machine process will suction air for up to 48 hours continuously. Perhaps removing all the air inside the property 5 times in one 24-48 hour period. This is why we referred you to a janitorial company, not because we did not want the work or the $, but because we wanted the work to be done well by the appropriate professional, we have no interest in misleading you into thinking that we are able to do this type of cleaning, we are not equipped or trained for smoke removal from walls and ceilings. We also wanted to let you know that your job is not too small to estimate in person. We are not staffed for estimates in person simply because we have never found a need for it with housecleaning jobs. I agree with you that your job does need an estimator but again your job falls into the field of Janitorial services and that would be appropriate there.

Overall I was delighted with the work and would gladly utilize Brenda's Cleaning Services again. I'd also be happy to refer them to friends and neighbors. I highly suggest that you have a list of tasks to be checked off and be ready to be proactive if the work is not being performed as quickly and as thoroughly as you expect. This issue happened with Brenda's staff and when I suggested the ladies work a little faster they took it in stride and finished the job perfectly. I'm a very happy customer.
Description of Work: I called for a last minute appointment to have my home cleaned and was pleasantly surprised when Cristina was able to fit us in within 24 hours - amazing! I purchased the 4 hours for $84 special and it was worth it. They sent 2 housekeepers to clean for 2 hours. The ladies showed up on time and got to work. At first I was skeptical that they could finish my list of tasks but when I reminded them that I had a list of things to finish they understood clearly and really picked up the pace. Within 2 hours my kitchen had been scoured along with a complete scrub down of the interior of the refrigerator; both bathrooms scoured; light dusting of the living room and vacuuming of the living room and hallway.

My two main grips are1. They removed one of the windows to clean the ledge, but did not know how to put it back. They left my home without putting it back.2. because they arrived late (noon), we had to leave for lunch. When we came back at at 2:30, they were already gone. AND THEY LEFT THE FRONT DOOR UNLOCKED!!! They were suppose to come for 3 hour total (2 people for 6 man hour). But I doubt they were here for more than 2.5.I do not recommend. bad communication, late, and unprofessional.My stove is very clean though.

The manager was very poor. They had one person do the service. Over the course of several months, they wouldn't show up. They were different at times. I heard that someone was hurt on the job, or someone was pregnant. They wouldn't tell me what was going on. They also take 50% of the pay. The first day, somebody put bleach on our new towels. The service was erratic. I would not recommend them to anybody. The girls that cleaned worked hard, but the manager was bad.

We do guarantee our work and we did service his home 32 times. The first cleaner we sent was Sandra Souza she provided service three times, and found the laundry and household duties to be overwhelming as it was 5 hours of high paced labor under the client's direction and control. Then Cecelia Garcia cleaned for him 8 times, she did unfortunately lift a couch on a different job and injure her back, she could no longer clean for any clients. We had to change his appointment time when this happened, and we called ahead to do so. Her replacement Lucia Diaz cleaned for him 20 times before she became pregnant and was ordered on bed rest by her doctor, we had to change his appointment time when this happened and in addition to a call from our office, Lucia called him personally about the changed appointments. Our office did initiate calls to him to advise him immediately upon notice to us, of any and all changes in his appointment dates.Therefore yes, he knows about the back injury and the pregnancy. He required a single cleaner not a team of two. We did offer permanent replacement teams of two. However, due to the fact that he required us to do laundry for his entire family, a team of two people works faster than the laundry machines can run the laundry, and our offer was turned down. Normally we do not offer laundry services for the entire family, we sometimes do sheets and towels. It is a false accusation to state that the Agency took 50% of the pay, his cleaners took home 72% and the agency received 28%, which is well below the industry standard. We prefer to support our cleaners with the highest percentage in the market place, in doing so they stay with our agency long term (barring physical ailments) which is good for all. In addition he insisted on a discount of %20 off the price at the beginning before he would consider becoming a client. We agreed as an exception in his case to both the discounted price and the extensive laundry responsibilities. We did everything we could humanly do to please him, on the 32 occasions that we cleaned for him.

UPDATED REVIEW (7/10/12): The first two cleanings were great. The third cleaning was pretty bad, the floors were really dirty and the fitted sheets were put on incorrectly. I called and Cristina apologized and offered a $20 discount for the next cleaning. They came back two weeks later and the work was again, very poor. The entire house smelled of dirty mop water. I cancelled all future visits. I would NOT recommend. Original review (03/19/2012): Making the appointment was a bit of a challenge - when I did finally get someone on the phone, I was able to book my appointment for that week. Cleaners showed up on time and did a fantastic job.

I've been using Brenda's Cleaning Personnel for about 30 years, mostly in Marin where I used to live and where they're located. I moved to a lovely 3 BR home in the Westwood Highlands area of San Francisco a few years ago and have been using Brenda since then as well. I've recently set up photography studio in my full basement (1500 sq. ft.), and because I do laminating there it has to be a "clean" room. Preparatory to Sara's arrival I had the old wooden basement walls painted so that they wouldn't give off particles into the laminating area (took three coats of primer and they were still thirsty of more), then I covered the ceiling and some of the walls in plastic. When Sara arrived I had her mop the entire basement floor (probably the first time it had been mopped in 80 years, she said it was "very dirty." This was not a complaint but rather an understatement of fact for she was otherwise a quiet worker. Then I had her dust all the still-exposed ceiling, walls, and old shelving in the basement. When she was done down there she went upstairs and cleaned the entire house (again about 1500 sq. feet), including dish washing, and cleaning the floors, and the bathroom which required extra work removing mold in the shower. It took her just over 6 hours altogether, and I was amazed as she left for her next job. Her work was superlative and she was indefatigable, but I was exhausted just thinking about it.
Description of Work: Sarah arrived a few minutes early and after I described the work she got to it. She mopped and dusted the entire basement (1500 sq. ft. including the walls and ceiling), and then did the same upstairs, including the bathroom, toilet, tub and shower, the kitchen with dishes, and all the walls and drapes. It took her just over 6 hours in total and then she left for her next job.

Submitted form online to set up appointment, which was a little difficult because you couldn't chose AM and PM on the same day. Received an email setting up a time during my 3rd choice slot (which I only selected to fill the space). Emailed and called back to let know that time wouldn't work and that if they had a time available earlier in the week, that would work otherwise I appreciated their help. Were able to schedule earlier in the week via email and then I followed up the next day via phone to give my credit card information. The person with whom I spoke on the phone was very friendly and answered all my questions. She asked me to fax over the list from the apartment manager so that she could provide it to the technicians. i confirmed what time the technicians would arrive as I would be driving in from work (about 20 minutes away). On the day of the appointment, i received a call about 1/2 an hour before the appointment time from the technicians saying that they were there. I let them know that I needed to leave work and get there and that I would be on my way. I felt bad because they had to wait and I apologized upon arrival; however, I had confirmed the time and was planning to leave work about the time they called to say they arrived. In addition, the technicians had not received the list of items to clean (and I had not brought mine with me). However, the apartment manager was available and he gave us another list. I walked them through the apartment and explained what my priorities were on the list and then headed back to work. They called and left me a message when they were finished and my husband went over to meet with the manager for our final walk through. He said the place looked absolutely amazing and that the manager said we didn't have to do any additional cleaning ourselves and would get a majority of our deposit back. We were both thrilled. I called a couple days later to confirm price and was told it would not be known for sure until the next day when they ran credit cards. I did ask for a receipt to be emailed, but never received one (maybe it got lost in my spam - I'm not sure). If your times are narrow on when you need them to come, I would recommend calling them to schedule the appointment instead of using the online service. They are very responsive to both phone calls and emails. Plan for the technician to come early :) I highly recommend their service as they are a large reason we were able to get so much of our deposit back.

My initial appointment with the cleaner assigned to my work did not go well, but Brenda's service was very professional and amenable to fixing the situation. Individual cleaners may or may not suit a job, but I was impressed with the willingness and concern of Brenda's service to work with individual clients. I have a very tight schedule and Brenda's service made a strong effort to satisfy my needs.
Description of Work: I am updating a previous entry. After posting a dissatisfied report, Brenda's service rang me to get details. Brenda was willing to either have an additional person come out to fix what had been left undone or make a refund. I had already taken it upon myself to finish the work in the kitchen so instead opted for a credit with Brenda's service for a future cleaning with a different team. I was impressed with Brenda's professionalism and business integrity. I have not yet had the cleaning service but expect the team will be top-notch and will update later. At present, although the first cleaner I had did not get the job done to my satisfaction, the phone call from the service and willingness to fix an issue really stand out to me.

1. They were always in a hurry. 2. Unprofessional job, left all bottles together and didn?t leave anything where they originally found it especially in the bathroom. It took me an hour to find a Scan Disk which they moved to an area on my desk that I would never have put it. 3. They didn?t do 3 hours worth of work, and they did not tell us that it was going to be 2 of them doing 6 hours worth of work (2 people times 3 hours each for a total of 6 billable hours $25) we were told that it could be $20 or $25 per hour, but we were not told that this would be per person per hour. This is kind of expensive for a house cleaner. 4. We have window blinds and they left the blinds in a mishmash condition. 5. We requested that they clean the refrigerator, but they had one eye on their clock and ran off to their next job without putting everything back where it belonged. 6. We asked them to do carpet steaming, and since they rushed off to their next job, this didn?t get done either. 7. On time.

The only requirement we have to engage our guarantee is one fair ( at least we think so) request and that is for the customer to phone us and let us know that they were not satisfied and want to activate the guarantee. We then follow through immediately. We would have welcomed the member's phone call to let us know, sadly we never received that call from this member and only found out about his complaint by reading it here when we saw this review along with the other readers. Subsequently we did what any decent business would do, we phoned them and offered the guarantee to them but were told that they were not interested, so we mailed them a gift certificate for a free cleaning which we do hope they will take advantage of in the future. We have been in business for 33 years, not because we never make a mistake, we're human and we do, but because when we are notified of a problem, we respond heartily and make it good! The cleaning professionals I have been sent are just that: professionals, which is why I am a long-time repeat customer. They are honest, know the business, don't cut corners, work rapidly, efficiently and thoroughly, and charge less than the competition. I am very happy with their service.
Description of Work: Two young women came out and cleaned my lovely 3-bedroom home in San Francisco. I'm a single bachelor, so you can imagine that I don't keep it spotless. They dusted everywhere, washed and vacuumed all the floors, did the dishes, cleaned the kitchen and refrigerator, and removed all the mold from the bathroom shower stall in 1½ hours (3 person-hours total).

Description of Work: Have made two calls to them for two separate jobs.They did not answer my first cal for the first jobl.I e-mailed their web site for my second job which lists the cleaning price per sq ft & 3 choices of dates.Chose 1 then my wife said to change it so I did & then my wife & I said we probably only need the carpet cleaned so we contacted them again.We gave them my cell ph# as well as my home ph#.Never got a call back & they never showed up for the second job.After they didn't show up, I called them & got no answer.As a small business person, I can understand not having the time to do the work but I don't understand not communicating but Angie's list had some glowing reports on them.

Yes, we did make an appointment with you to clean your home for a move out. We received your request via the website and we obtained the details and booked the first job a move out cleaning with you. Yes, subsequently we did receive a message from you at 3:35 pm May 17. A transcript of your message follows below: 3:35pm 5/17/10 "I have a move out cleaning appointment scheduled for Thursday and I no longer need that because the people that moved out clean pretty good and I was ordering if you can do carpet cleaning only, if you do please call me." We also keep a transcript of our outgoing calls, which we type manually into our daily record and we also have the date and time stamped by the phone company. In our manual transcript the office manager made the following transcript of her outgoing message back to you: "We did cancel your move out cleaning as requested and we do have carpet cleaning available, we can do carpet only and the minimum charge in S.F. is $95 if you are interested please call us back"/cl However, upon inspecting our date and time stamp by the phone company we discovered a discrepancy on our part. It turns out that it was in fact our fault. It was human error on the part of our office staff. Our staff member was dialing and entering the outgoing phone call back to you on our manual record when she got interrupted. She failed to complete the outgoing call. She thought later that you had not returned her call because you were not interested in booking the carpet cleaning. She did not realize that it was her mistake until we received your Angies List complaint and searched our phone company date and time stamp records. Your message to us was to cancel your appointment, which we did, so of course it goes without saying that we would not show up and no second appointment was booked, since we thought you had not returned our call. In order to correct the possibility of this happening again in the future, we have implemented new date and time stamp requirements into our daily manual record keeping as a double safeguard. I know you stated that we did not answer the phone on your last phone call to our company. We do not know how technology could have created that glitch because we do have a voice mail system that answers when our office staff is on the other line. I apologize for both the technology glitch and for the fact that our staff member did not actually return your call to book the carpet cleaning for you. Due the error our company made we are offering to do the carpet cleaning that you wanted at no charge to you! They did a very good job and we were happy with their service. Their pricing was quite reasonable for the work that they did and they came in an hour early. All the people who had come were professional and easy to talk to. Everybody seemed bright and business like. When we had them out the 3rd time, there was one person who did the cleaning and I was less happy with her work but I would still say that she was good. She gave me a call while she was cleaning and said that she had cleaned. She did the work faster than the time that we contracted her for. When I came back, I found that the house was indeed clean and I was impressed by how much she did but, I can tell how clean the house is by how long it takes to get dirty again. She did a reasonably good job. I will continue using their service.

We had skipped one or two trips with our regular cleaning people and we had people coming in from out of town and needed a one time clean. I thought the price was reasonable, but might have been a midge high for what they did. Their work was good and I would rather pay a little more, than pay a little less for crappy work. They did what they said they were going to do. The people were pretty courteous and helpful. The business office was very good when I spoke with them. I would recommend them and I might go back to them if I wasn't using my regular housecleaner.
Description of Work: We used Brenda's Cleaning in July to do a four-hour minimum clean.

Overall, my experience with Brenda's Cleaning Personnel has been unexpectedly wonderful. From the beginning, I needed help. I have a full time job and another 20-30 hours a week of studying and decided I wasn't going to spend my spare time scrubbing moldings anymore. I looked into hiring a cleaning service and found Brenda's Cleaning Personnel here on Angie's List. I set up bi-weekly cleanings, with an initial deep/detailed clean to jump start the process. Two very nice men showed up a couple of days later and went to work. Upon seeing their finished product, I was jumping for joy. I am a very tidy and neat person, and I like my living space the same way. I was raised in a house where you could eat off the bathroom floor if you wanted. I am not ok with dirt, dust and grime in either visible or not so visible places. Everything was cleaned, including my oven. I think they even took it apart? Anyway, it looks like new! My husband, who makes fun of my ?heightened? sense of what constitutes a mess, was obsessed with the clear windows we now had (we live in the Richmond District of SF, where windows get very dirty VERY quickly). Everything was GREAT - until I saw our wine rack sitting in front of a heating vent in the bathroom with the heat turned on full blast. Our wine was oozing out of the top of the corks. My stomach dropped and turned, and dropped again. While the cleaners were cleaning the carpets, they moved this rack out of the way and into the bathroom. Also while cleaning the carpets, they opened all the windows and turned the heat on full blast to help the carpets dry. We left a message with Brenda's cleaning service immediately, as they were closed for the day, and then got on the phone with wine distributors in hopes to save our wine. Unfortunately, there was nothing we could do. If wine seeped out, air was getting in and we needed to drink up. At that point, we were planning how we could possibly drink 15 or so bottles of very nice wine in the next 3 weeks - and good riddance to Brenda's Cleaning Service. We popped a $150 bottle that night and drank it with our pizza. At least I felt a little better after that bottle :) Bright and early the next morning, we received a phone call from Brenda. She was very apologetic and would do whatever it took until we were completely satisfied. Also, she was not going to charge us for the cleaning until we were satisfied. In the end, Brenda's Cleaning Service paid us for all the bottles, at their inflated prices, so we could purchase them again. For the bottles we couldn?t let go of, we were reimbursed for 1/2 of the current price of those bottles! The one we drank that night? They paid the full amount! We had a check in a couple of days for the collection. My husband and I are relatively young, and we have been putting a decent amount of money for us into this collection for a few years. I was devastated when I noticed the damage. However, accidents happen, and Brenda's Cleaning took responsibility immediately. I couldn't have asked for anything more. One further thing - I am unbelievably happy that I joined Angie's List. I wanted a good referral - and man, did I get one! We still employ Brenda's Cleaning Personnel for biweekly regular cleanings. All has gone well so far...and I'll let you know if things change. But for now, this service has been more than I ever expected. I was just saying to my husband last night how happy I am to have a cleaning service!
Description of Work: Complete deep clean of my 700 sq ft apartment, including washing all windows and shampooing the carpets. This service took 2 men approximately 4 hours.

We just had our Samoyed groomed in home where she lost her winter coat...hair was everywhere, you would have to see it to understand how bad it was, as well as re-doing our family room, dust from sanding was everywhere as well. Kitchen needed a good cleaning as well as the guest bathroom. The carpet was just coated from the dog as well as the sanding from the family room that was just completed. Two ladies cleaned non-stop for 2 & 1/2 hours, they were extremely nice, very professional, did the best job I have yet to have done. I can not rave about them enough.

Lorena and Charlie spent 2.5 hours helping us with the remainder of our post-construction cleaning. They took a lot of initiative and cleaned areas that we didn't look forward to doing ourselves, such as cleaning the inside of our antique light-fixtures and underneath furniture. It took minimal instruction to get them to meet 80-90% of our standards (we are on the picky side). They were both very pleasant, professional, took directions well, but language was a small barrier. I put N/A for price since this was our first time hiring cleaners and have nothing to compare to. ($160 was including tip for both.)
