When I was looking for bids, other companies listened to what I wanted, and then gave me a verbal quote, or a written one with little detail. Silva listened, went back, and a few days later returned a detailed, itemized quote that I could understand. I really liked that. I studied it, made adjustments, and one more meeting produced an agreement we could both live with. Their detailed contract itemized what they would do, what I would do, and what I would buy for them to install. They also produced a list of task milestones and corresponding progress payment amounts. All this was very much within the spirit and the letter of state law. With everything spelled out ahead of time, my job went smoothly with no disagreements. They never pressured me for payments they had not earned. Throughout the job, Silva displayed the highest degree of competence, integrity, and best practices. Each employee did his tasks well, was friendly and received my input well. One of the owners dropped by most days to keep up on the work, and give direction for any problems that may have arisen. We love our new bathroom, and at the end I wrote them a special thank you letter for their good service. I would be very happy to work with Silva again, on a future project.
Description of Work: In January and February 2011, Silva Construction, Inc. remodeled our upstairs master bathroom. The job essentially consisted of completely tearing out an old shower, floor, sink and cabinet, and replacing them with good quality tile in the shower and floor, new cabinet, granite top, toilet, and miscellany. The entire job took 6 weeks, including some down time waiting for ordered items to arrive. The delays were never Silva's fault. I stayed involved in the project, doing a small amount of simple work myself, and with Silva's help selecting and purchasing most of my own fixtures, tile, cabinetry, etc., to the tune of about $8,000 of the total amount shown above. Silva did essentially all of the heavy work, including tear down, construction, finishing touches, etc.

In one word- terrible. These guys were recommended to us by a friend who used them for a remodel a few years back. Obviuosly something has changed since then. Maybe they lost some key people or something. Bid was given to us by Dave Clarke, and he seems like a good guy. Problem is he is not involed in the actual execution of the work. There was a complete lack of supervision from the start. The workers would show up and asked us what they were suppose to do. Many items got started wrong and had to be torn a apart and redone. For example, we had provided a sketch of the configuration of the laundry room cabinets. For some reason it wasn't followed. They corrected it. but now the end cabinet has 10 holes in the side from where it was incorrectly screwed to another cabinet. Also laundry room closet was supposed to have shelving built in it. Workers installed a closet pole. The casing around our bedroom doors was suppose to be alder wood. Workers started putting the MDF casing around it. So that all had to be torn off and redone. It was never made clear to us who was in charge or the POC. The finish carpenters's were pitiful, The crown molding they put up on the laundry room cabinets was chipped, splintered, and has big gaps on the corners, I could have done a better job with a handsaw. The travertine top they installed was fab'd on site, which should have been a red flag. The sink cut out looks very amatuer and looks to have been poorly freehanded. They also installed my bathroom vanity with no end filler piece. So when the door casing was put on the drawers could not be opened. Wouldn't have been a big deal to fix it except the granite top was already installed. Jaime, the alleged supervisor, intial idea to fix it was to CUT THE DRAWERS. So I had to get Dave Silva over and we ended up removing the granite, sliding the cabinet down and having another backsplash piece fabbed. The other vanity they put in has a big crack in the side of it. Paid alot of money for nice vanities just to have them beat up by their carpenters. There are lots of other issues but I'm sure you are getting my point. The quality of the work in general was really bad and no one (except us) was reviewing it. I must say the painters were pretty good. They actually painted a lot more than they were suppose to. The other subs really beat things up and the painters repainted these areas because they wanted it to look good. The problem was when the other subs came back to fix issues they beat up the paint again. It was this neverending cycle and there was no Silva supervisor any where in sight. The only time Jaime showed up was to get a payment. He was all over that and sometimes wanted payments before the specific event in the contract was done! There was a total lack of coordination and communication on there end.. We became so frustrated in dealing with them and all the quality issues we just wanted them out. We just conceded we were going to have to have some thing redone, because we just were not going to get there with these guys. I had planned to have them remodel my master bath and even got a quote from them. But after this fiasco I can't even fathom how they would handle a large tile job and installing cabinets and granite. Lesson learned about contractors is only contract one thing at a time, that way if it doesn't go well you find a different one. When I paid the final bill they asked us to fill out a Work Completion form with comments. Obviously we voiced our dissatisfaction. Got an email from Dave Silva 5 days later wanting to "better understand why we were so disatisfied so he could address the issues within his own company so it doesn't happen again". Claims he had no idea we were that unhappy. Sent him back a detailed list of all the issues with lots of pictures. Its 10 days later and I have not received any reponse. I thought they would at least offer to fix it. I guess I have to assume what I got is the best they can do. Based on the other comments here these problems have been going on a while. Wish I would have looked here before hiring them. .
Description of Work: Installed vanities in two bathrooms and cabinets with molding and doors in laundry room Also installed travertine top in laundry room. Installed baseboards, closet pole w shelving, and bipass wood closet doors in 3 bedrooms. Installed an entry way door to garage. Patched a few drywall holes and painted same areas. Painted specific walls in bedrooms and all of laundry room. Also installed Alder wood trim around bedroom doors.

1. We have been doing business in the south bay for 36 years and have completed thousands of construction projects over this time. We would not remain in business for any length of time is we were delivering poor products and service. Our objective on all projects is and always has been “A very Satisfied Customer” We do everything we can to deliver what was promised. 2. We screen and hire professional contractors for trades such as concrete, framing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, siding, Stucco etc. as they know the codes and specialize in that profession. This results in less chance of mistakes on projects. Their contract with us is they goof they fix it. They take responsibility for their products and service or we don’t use them. If they do goof they do fix it as this improves their skill as they are not paid for shoddy work. 3. We do use in house crews on smaller projects for light framing, concrete, drywall and finish work. They are trained at what they do and we don’t have them doing tasks they are not trained in performing. 4. With regard to the complaint on the vanity having to be filled in at the end so the drawer would clear the door casing. I spoke with the Carpenter who installed this vanity. He is a Journeyman finish carpenter doing finish work for over 30 years. He was instructed where to center this vanity so the sink was directly centered with the light above. AT this time the door nor door casing had been installed. He verified with the owner the vanity was where he wanted it and the owner confirmed. . 5. With regard to the other complaints I told him I would have these corrected and get the guys back who goofed. He said no how about refunding money. I told him I cant do that. They guys goof they fix it that’s the policy. During the project I did not see Member I dealt with his wife and asked how things were going and never got anything indicating there were issues to be handled. I am not discounting that the supervision did miss the points he showed me later in photos. There should have been more communication with Member before the project was considered complete. 6. This job we took over as I understand it due to the fact the owner had fired the previous contractor. We have no problem resolving any goof only exception is when the customer will not allow us to fix it. In fact we really want to fix our goofs. We want satisfied customers and are sorry we couldn't get one here.

At first the two people that came out to do estimates were friendly and customer oriented, Dave Silva and Dave Clark. There was a lot of miscommunication from the start. Some days there would be workers that showed up, other days not? the schedule was not communicated to me. They would email me after the fact that no workers have showed up, and that they were rescheduling for next week. I was unsure who to call?Dave Silva, Dave Clark, or Jaime, they did not tell me who was the point person, it seemed like different people were heading the various projects. There were multiple subcontractors that came, some for building the fence and painting it, some for hotmopping the balcony, etc. Dave Silva was on site for many days, when the big part of the job was to be done. Overall the subcontractors were professional, however, when I was remarking about how I did not think that the two pieces of fence matched , the subcontractor or perhaps an employee was arguing with me, even though I had talked with someone else (Dave or Jaime) who told me that that they would repaint it. This person also had me point out which ones I thought did not match, as they said that they could not see the difference. This was very aggravating. The old wood looked better than the new wood. They ended up sanding it down and I believe repainting so that it improved the appearance. The project manager? Unclear what his title should be, Jamie, was hard to deal with from the start. When I had asked for the itemized receipt regarding my payments, he did not give them to me. After reading the other reviewer, it seem like this(Jaime) has been a problem for others in the past as well. The hotmoppers arrived (the people with the tar to make the deck waterproof), and wanted to go through the house, but I had specifically asked for all the people to go outside the house since I have a now 8 month old, and did not want fumes in the house. Dave Silva thought that they could do the work from the balcony/remain outside, but that was not the case. It seemed that Jaime was unsympathetic for my reasoning, wanting the workers to just come through ?quickly.? If people had to go through the house, I wanted to know beforehand so that I could make arrangements. I had made this clear from the beginning, of which, they (Dave Clark and Dave Silva) stated that they could make accommodations Ultimately the people were rescheduled-- but when I had asked the project manager to obtain my preferred dates, he said that the hotmoppers were not available on those days and scheduled them at a time I specifically did not want to do. He also stated later, after I complained that I did not want to do that time, that I could call them directly. I called them, and got my preferred date and time with no issues. I think that the project manager just did not want to have to reschedule the tilers that were coming after them?I feel that the project manager doesn't want to keep the customer happy, and want to do less work for himself. Also, when I had asked to have the exterior painting done, Jaime wanted me to pick out the interior paint and to have it done by tomorrow. I did not have time to go to the store to do this tonight?. Overall, Jaime's attitude soured the experience. I am surprised that the company, if other people have complained about his miscommunication issues, that they have allowed him to be with the company for so long/haven?t let him go. I also CCd some of the miscommunication emails to Dave Silva? maybe if they had offered me another person to communicate with or if Dave Silva had apologized about Jaime?s miscommunication, that would at least have acknowledged that there was miscommunicatnon issues on their end. If they had someone else in his place, I would feel differently about Silva Construction. I do think that the work that they did was good quality, but not excellent, as there were some minor areas that had to be finished/redone, that they did not catch, which I had to point out. When Dave Silva was there, all items that were pointed out were done, with no problems. At the end, I had to catch that they did not give me credit for supplying my own tile, which was about $800. Also, I had asked to get a 3rd planter to match the existing 2 that they had placed on the balcony. They ignored that request and just put the old planter up, so now they do not match. I became tired of dealing with Jaime, so just paid them for the job that they had completed. I had recommended them to people in the past while the work was being done, however, now that the job has come to completion, will not be referring them anymore.
Description of Work: Fencework, recauking bathroom area, hotmoping the balcony, tiling the balconies, rebuilding the wooden balconies, sanding and recutting doors, and varnishing door.

1. Points 1 – 2 – 3 above 2. There was an issue with the hot moppers coming through the house. Unfortunately they are not allowed to bring up materials on a ladder especially hot tar. Their insurance company does not allow it. 3. Any issue brought up was resolved right away. The miscommunication was not discussed by the owner with the Job Sup while the project was in progress. This issue would have been resolved he they known.

Overall, the quality of their wst pork was very good... not excellent. I must say the tile work is beautiful and we love the frameless shower. The plumbing was a problem as a couple of mistakes were "covered up" and I didn't realize it until much later (this job was done 3 years ago) when my escutcheons started rusting out. Our biggeroblem was with the project manager, who was very stubborn and difficult. We will not hire them again.
Description of Work: I had Silva completely gut my bathroom and hallway outside the bathroom. Some walls required different framing, then they re-bullt it completely with lots of tile work and a semi-frameless shower. They also added cabinets in hallway for towels, etc.

What a nightmare! The company who showed up to do the work was certainly not the same company that sold the job. Some of the subs were inexperienced causing us to lose trust and confidence in the company. Other subs complained to us, the homeowner, of the company's inability to pay them. When problems were brought to their attention, they addressed the problem by providing a different job site manager. This created more miscommunication and confusion. The project contained a tremendous amount of detail that the company was not able to recall, remember or act upon. They were let go half way through the project.
Description of Work: Contracted with them for a master bedroom remodel which included adding 100 sq. feet, three skylights, expansion of the master bathoom, lighting, electrical, plumbing.

We at Silva Construction stand behind what we advertise. We are serious about running a job to it completion and accepting nothing less than a satisfied customer. The member unfortunately did not let us run her job. We did give the customer the opportunity to switch job supervisors because she had a personality conflict with the first one. There we’re numerous attempts to resolve her issues. In the end we chose to dissolve our contract with her as she had issues that were not in our field as contractors to handle. We felt we couldn’t end up with our target, “a satisfied customer” Side note:This contract was in 2006. We ended it about 2 weeks after we started because of the differences.

I would not use this company again or encourage anyone else to. They just had too many problems. I am a flooring and carpeting expert because I do that for a living. Their tiling was not impressive. They had to order my bathroom door three times. They put my wing coat trim tiling on upside down too. They also were not good about showing up on time or on follow-up skills. I have no interest in commenting on what I paid for their services. I will say they're moderate in terms of price. They are not cheap though. I would not use them again because they created a nightmare for me with this project.
Description of Work: This company remodeled my small bathroom. They did do a quite a bit of actual building throughout this project. I have no idea what the square footage is. They handled everything from the wing coat trim tiling to the shower installation and plumbing. They also put my toilet in and my sink and handled the plumbing for both of those.

We have been in business for over 30 years and have lists of Happy Customers. We provide many customers with competent good quality work. We make every effort to deliver what is promised and to have more than a satisfied customer. We have to admit that there were some problems with this job. Since it was completed both the tile guy and job sup have been let go. We did know that the member was unhappy. He was contacted to see what we could do for him to create some good will between us. He refused. We were unhappy too.

I met with one of the owners. He was nice enough and appeared professional. However, there was a mix-up in our meeting for the first time (he came earlier than we had scheduled, though he did call). So, we had to reschedule the initial meeting to another day. My husband and I are new to the home remodeling experience but we figure that the price quoted was very steep; we couldn't justify it even if this company would do a great job. We think we can find a better deal.
Description of Work: I requested two quotes, one for installation of a ceramic tile kitchen floor (approximately 140 square feet), and the other for replacing the two wooden side fences (no more than 20 feet in length) with a specific design in mind. The price we were quoted was close to $3,000 for the floor and $4,500 for the fence. We thought this was way too much.

This doesn't make any sense. This guy asked for a quote and we provided it, free of charge but he was unhappy with the price so he didn't use our services. I don't see what the problem is here.
