I booked a 2 hour handyman service through Amazon Home Services and was assigned Bay Area Fix and Install. After my appointment was confirmed, I spoke with someone at Bay Area Fix/Install to describe the services that were to be performed. I had an existing Through-The-Wall A/C and wanted to replace it with a new one that I purchased, and I also wanted to replace a door on my tool shed that had water damage. When the technician came by for the appointment, he said that I would need to purchase a new wall sleeve for the AC unit, and told me I needed to buy a prehung door for the tool shed. He seemed to know exactly what needed to be done, and told me to reschedule the appointment once I had purchased the AC sleeve and door. I did exactly that, and I explained to the scheduler the work that needed to be done. He confirmed my new appointment, but when the day came, nobody showed up. I had to call Bay Area Fix & Install multiple times in order to reach someone to see why they missed my appointment. Over 2 hours past the scheduled arrival time, someone from their company called to explain that the work I had requested was beyond the "scope" of the 2 hour handyman appointment, and that they would not perform the services I requested because it would take longer than 2 hours, and it would not be "worth it" to them based on how much Amazon was paying them for the service. I have no problem with them saying it's a job longer than 2 hours, and I would have been willing to pay for more hours if it meant getting the work done, but they did not provide any indication of this prior to the appointment. They even had a technician come out the first time to see the work that needed to be done first hand. They could have told me right after that they weren't willing to do the job. Instead, they confirmed a 2nd appointment and no-showed. I had to take a day off of work to wait for them. I ended up calling Amazon and they are trying to find me someone else to do this job, which means I will have to wait another week. I would not recommend Bay Area Fix and Install. If they are assigned to you by Amazon Home Services, I would call Amazon and ask for a different provider. The handyman that showed up the for the first appointment was nice and seemed knowledgeable, but that is the only good thing I can say about this company. Use them at your own risk.
