Payment is due at time or service on first engagement, after that billing is an option. I'm a one-man shop - so you always see the same person! My business and service is highly personalized, unlike the big-box services, we develop a relationship, often when a customer tells me that they're thinking about an upgrade or a new capability - if we don't get a solution right-away, they often get an email in a few days or so with something that I've come across that I think will suit their needs - you don't get that type of service from the big-box guys.

Services we don't offer
I don't fix screens on notebook computers or the power supply - the internals of a notebook computer are highly engineered, I don't get enough call for this to develop an expertise and the liability is too great for me - I generally re-direct the request to a local store with an in-store repair shop that is reliable.
He had good reviews, but I did not have a great experience with him. He said to call him back when it didn't work and it was kind of my fault because I did not call him back. I was just not thrilled with his bedside manner sort of thing. I have hoped to have somebody teach me what the problem was so that I could fix anything that came up in the future, and I didn't find him to be a good teacher as well as technician. He didn't follow up with the call with everything going okay and I did not like his style to the point where I did not call him back. I decided to wait and see if I could fix it. The problem has been over a year and I am trying to figure out how to do it next but I don't want to call him back. It cost something like $300 but he charged for the time I spent explaining the problem to him on the telephone. That already put me off. He sort of charged the minute he picked up the phone. He was specific in making sure that if there is any problem to call him back. That was my fault. I can't really blame him for my not calling him back. It was just me. I did not want to spend more money and not be happy. He might have fixed it have I called him back. The price sounded like it was going to be lower but it ended up being higher because of how he charged us. For his punctuality, he was right on time.
Description of Work: I called Ralph Doore Consulting to fix a specific problem which was the wireless in my apartment did not extend throughout my apartment. It only went through a couple of rooms and did not go all the way to the front to the living room, and that was what I called him in to do. It never worked.

Response from Ralph Doore Consulting
I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. It's been a while, but if I remember right, we were able to update your television so that it could get automatic updates and perhaps that would take care of the problem it had (although being so long ago, I don't remember it's specific problem). As for your WiFi, I believe that I suggested using Powerline networking to extend your internet/wireless to the front room. Again, if I recall correctly, your office had poor access to power outlets and the building has good soundproofing, so wireless signals are going to have a problem going through those walls - you can find easy-to-use powerline equipment at Amazon, NewEgg and others, the kit with two modules starts at less than $100 - they do need to plug into the wall and not a surge suppressor (as that will kill the data signal). It is possible with the correct modules to replicate your wireless, so that WiFi in the front room is the same name/password as your wireless in your office. As for my charges, I do not sell anything other than my time, and as such I need to be compensated for it - my rates are in line with others in San Francisco who perform similar services to mine. Should you need additional assistance with the suggestions that I made upon that visit or from the information above, please do call me, you will not be charged for that call. I run my business on a reputation model, if or whenever a client has a problem, I do everything within my power to make it right and satisfy my customer/client.
