Because he and his grandsons had been so polite, because my decorator said she trusted him, because I could not get him out of my home when I was there with him all by myself, and because I felt sorry for the situation he was in with his mom, I went ahead and paid what he asked and trusted him to come back and finish the job properly. One month passed, then I called to see if he was back in town, he said he was not, so another, and another and another month, I finally asked my decorator to contact him because he had stopped returning my once a week phone calls. He told her that he was not going to come back to my house to finish, that there wasn't enough money left for him to be able to afford to pay his grandsons. I have been quoted several thousand dollars to fix the mess he left. Because of the runs, thin spots, incorrect paint application, and poor color matching, it is going to cost me just as much to fix the mess he left me with as what I paid him for everything.
Description of Work: Allen McFadden was referred to me by my decorator. He provided a quote to sand, prime and paint bookcases and trim in our lower level, upstairs hallway, and three bedrooms, half bath as well as master bath. He was also to paint the walls of all of the same areas , plus some other small areas. The paint he used in the lower level on the book cases and trim took over a week to dry and he must have primed incorrectly because the paint rubs off revealing white primer underneath. The doors on the bookcase also stick shut and pull paint of when finally unstuck to open. In addition, we have to be very careful when rearranging things on the bookcases, because they stick and pull paint off as well when items are moved. Upstairs the master bathroom trim and walls were never completed, new drywall, spackle and un-primed trim remain. All the doors in the hallway and bedrooms only got one coat of paint, and several sides of doors and insides of door frames were completely missed, on what was painted you can see the original color in streaks underneath as if the paint he used was watered down. In addition, we had just had new hardware/hinges installed on all the doors and the new paint has run down all over them. He told me his mother was dying in CA and said he needed money to be able to go see her. I gave him a punch list of all the things that still needed completed or re-done and explained that I did not feel I owed what he was asking because the expense to do over and complete so much (what I mentioned above is not even half of the problems) He said he would take care of everything when he got back in town for the small sum of about $800 that was left.
