I sincerely hope you who read this will learn some valuable information, which will assist to guide you through your future. I rent my home, therefore I do not know how much was paid for the services discussed herein. My property owners have made a bad habit of hiring unlicensed contractors to get cheaper rates, or hiring those who will write receipts for $499.00 or less so they will not have to worry about having proper legal permits. Some of them have actually fallen through our ceiling, and broken the A/C condensation tubing on the roof but did not report this so we had a leak for years which came down into our dining room onto our furniture. Our property owner laughingly accused us of using our a/c too much (during the winter month of October). The ceiling was repaired by a company that goes by two different names: "Circle A Construction Inc". & ?A-All Construction & Repair? Their card has a large circle with the words "A-All Construction & Repair" Angie's list has them as "Circle A" but the Calif. Licensing Board has them registered with the SAME LICENSE # USED as being named "A-All Construction & Repair". When I met the worker who was at my home, we exchanged names and phone numbers. I had asked him for his card, but he said he did not have one. I was puzzled and said I never had met a licensed contractor without a card. He said his boss had them, and I said, "OK when he gets here, just leave one on my table" to which he agreed he would do ? he said, ?OK?. However, when I got home there was no card anywhere to be found! Their license number listed on-line is 779336, which according to the California State Licensing Board, has been expired since 5/31/2010. Furthermore, their workers compensation insurance was canceled 11/10/10, and an employee told me that they do not have to carry it. Well, I do not want anyone working on the property I live in without a license and without worker's comp insurance, for many reasons from principles & ethics issues, to laws, and self-preservation issues! Not to mention the poor quality of the workmanship done to my ceiling! It is a different color, texture, and was not blended let alone finished, or painted, yet I was told by the worker that is all they were hired to do, and not to "finish" it. Furthermore, the property owner was here and saw his work before leaving. The Owner of the construction company, Mike Aguilar, was in my home for a little while to help the older worker move some things around to have a better reach toward the ceiling. While he was here, he left his satchel (soft briefcase). A few minutes after I returned home, I noticed his satchel was in my living room. I found his card inside, zipped up the case, and called him, letting him know he had left it here. He said he had just barely arrived at his house and he would get it the next day but would call me first. He did not appreciate it very much at all that I had called him. WITHOUT CALLING ME BACK, he came back to my home that same night, arriving at 8:10 PM, to get his satchel. He was unpleasant and again not very appreciative that I had called him right away to let him know. Probably because he did not want us to know the name of him or his company, which now makes sense having discovered his license is expired! I found these men/workers to be very unsatisfactory, rude, using only forced brief politeness at best. MOREOVER, THEY LIED ABOUT BEING A LICENSED CONTRACTOR! Of course my own landlord also lied about them being licensed and therefore I will be reporting them to the proper homeowner authorities also, but in California that will probably lead nowhere as it seems landlords - even the slumlords - have all the rights barring extremely dangerous health condition hazards in a rental, such as no heat. As for the rest of the laws and codes they break, the building dept inspector did not care to do his job within his own codes and laws, and neither did the Fair Housing Commission. They only suggested mediation - I find mediation does not work well when the liars (my landlords) are the ones believed. We have photographs, videos, dates documented, numerous documents, etc.but to no avail with the Calif. Building Dept. Therefore, we will seek private remediation. If you learn only one thing, know this, I recommend you NEVER rent a home from a friend or relative. Just when you think you know someone well, after 8 years, you will find out you never really knew who they REALLY were, especially when they are proficient game playing liars. Plus, re: the smoke detector and the smoke/carbon monoxide detector - I told the worker, Bob Seldner, that we had recently put new batteries in both of our smoke detectors. When I checked them later, our higher expensive Duracell battereries were taken and replaced with cheaper batteries. Of course, our Duracell batteries were nowhere to be found. I call that theft. Finally: My property owner was here with these workers all day, and I had left the premises on the advice of our legal counsel and for the safety of my health from the property owners. However, I returned twice during the day to pick up some needs because: 1. They began 90 minutes later than the appointment was set for; 2. I am disabled and needed ice packs, and my meds; 3.I had my Lhasa Apso with me and needed to get her food, bed, etc. Since they had not pre-set an appointment, I had no planned place to go and spent the day in my car in the parking lot of a police station. After Bob, the worker, called and said they would be finished in 30 minutes, I came home. They were already gone in about 15 minutes, and of 8 locks on my doors, they had only locked one lock! THEY LEFT MY BACK IRON SCREEN DOOR OPEN, WITH THE BACK HARD DOOR UNLOCKED COMPLETELY, AND THE FRONT IRON SCREEN DOOR WAS ALSO AJAR, AND ONLY THE DOOR KNOB LOCKED ON THE FRONT HARD DOOR. NONE OF MY DEAD BOLTS WAS LOCKED AND THE LANDLORD HAD THE KEYS! In addition, the workers did not check on the doors to see to it my house was properly locked up and this could make the company liable. OBVIOUSLY I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE, NEITHER WOULD I EVER RECOMMEND THE OWNERS/LANDLORDS OF THIS HOUSE (Becky & Steve Emert). As I said at the beginning, I sincerely hope you who read this, will learn some valuable information, which guides you through your future.
