I was not very happy with that. We ordered some wood flooring and unbeknown to me they talked my husband into taking the smaller pieces and I was not happy because I wanted the bigger ones. I was so disappointed. The size of the ceramic is about half the floor I ordered and it makes the floor looks clattered. He was a very nice person but the delivery of it was what I was not satisfied about. What I ordered should have been in. The work was ok.

The work was never performed. The contractor cancelled a schedule visit to provide us a bid. Subsequent attempts to contact the company have been unsuccessful, they never returned phone calls or responded to email.
Description of Work: We played phone tag for some time. Finally an appointment was set and he cancelled his visit. He had told me that the coupons would never expire but multiple attempts to reach him after the coupons (2) expired have been failed attempts. I am reporting him to the San Diego BBB.

He looked at the work, and performed the work and he did a great job with the kitchen and a good job on the siding. He was very responsive and a good guy. I really liked the work he provided. I liked that he, along with another guy, did the job together and didn’t use subcontractors to do estimates, or working on the job.
Description of Work: He installed a new faucet and soap dispenser in the kitchen. He also did some re-plumbing underneath the sink. He got custom fabricated siding that needed replaced on the exterior.

While my wife and I are happy overall with the results of our remodel now that the job is over, we can't say that we'd recommend Mojo Design and Contracting to anyone else for a similarly large job. Our complaints are that Anthony didn't take enough responsibility for the materials under his care, his communication was inconsistent and sometimes unprofessional, and he didn't inform us of what he considered major changes in the work effort and therefore cost of the project until weeks after the related work was done. Anthony told us at the beginning of the project that regular daily communication was essential to the project -- which we definitely agreed on, since we were living out of town during the project -- and said that he would be in constant contact. Unfortunately, we found this not to be true. Often, Anthony would not answer phone calls, emails and texts during the work day. With phone calls and texts he usually responded within 24 hours, but he sometimes ignored emails completely. The biggest lapse in communication happened immediately after our second payment of $23.5K: he stopped responding to us for a couple of days, and his phone was turned off and his voicemail box was full. This led to sleepless nights until he finally called, said he'd gone out of town in the middle of the week and left his charger at home. Anthony was aware that we were spending most of our savings on the house and remodel and were very concerned about expenses. We didn't receive verbal or written change orders during entire process, except for $1,350 in additional stucco work and countertop costs. But at the end of the job, he presented an invoice with change orders for over $8,000 more than we were expecting. About $5,000 of this was for almost 100 hours of his night and weekend work which he didn't ask us to approve in advance, and which we suspect could have been accomplished during normal work hours: for example, he wasn't present at the house on a Wed-Thurs. when my wife was in town in the middle of the project, but then later charged us for 28 hours of work he caught up on that weekend. The final invoice also included $3,000 in change orders for additional drywall work, framing and plumbing. While we knew about some of the work, our problem with these charges was that this work was performed 6-7 weeks prior to this final invoice being presented, but we hadn't gotten any change order to inform us of a price increase. Our contract was a fixed price contract, not cost-plus, so we expected to be informed of any new costs by change order. Anthony said that he hadn't had time to review, add up and inform us of the costs until right before presenting the last bill because he'd been too busy. Anthony asked us to buy and ship our new kitchen appliances to the house as soon as possible after the start of the project -- he insisted that he needed them on-site as early as possible so he could measure them exactly and be sure the kitchen would come together perfectly. Over a month after we had the appliances shipped to the house, Anthony called and said that he'd just unboxed them to start installing and discovered that the stove was damaged. Since this was over 30 days after the appliances were delivered, we weren't able to return or exchange the stove (despite hours spent in phone and email exchanges with the store and manufacturer). When we asked Anthony to cover all or even part of the expense of replacing the stove, he refused, even though he'd asked to receive them early and then left them uninspected in their boxes. This added $900 to the cost of our remodel. Fortunately, most of the subcontractors Anthony hired -- especially the electrical and cabinets subs, which we've reviewed separately -- were experienced professionals who did a great job. (The only exception was the plumber, who installed our new water heater in a way that violated CA code; to his and Anthony's credit, though, they did fix it quickly.) And as I wrote earlier, in the end we're happy with the results of the work. But we lost our trust in Anthony due to the inconsistent communication and the way he handled the expense increases. To give him the benefit of the doubt, he may have underbid the job because he simply didn't have enough experience with jobs this size to anticipate the work involved. But whatever the reason, we wound up with a stressful and disorganized experience, and we can't recommend Mojo D&C to other Angie's List members.
Description of Work: Anthony managed a complete remodel of our small (~800 sq. ft.) home. This included a full kitchen remodel, full bath remodel, full electrical rewiring, interior painting, floor refinishing, and wall and trim repair. We lived out of state at the time and had 8 weeks in which to complete the entire remodel.

When I contacted Mojo it took three different calls before I got a call back. I set up a time to Anthony. He came out and looked at that work and said it would take a day. The tile around the bathtub was buckling and I knew I had to replace. The work would take a day. We have the date set for the 20th and was set up by email. I received a call on the 18 or 19 to confirm. I just asked to get a call back on what time to expect the worker. I never got a phone call back. The worker showed up at 8:30. The work was completed in less than 4 hours. Anthony did not recommend me that plumbing the valves had to be replaced. So he proceeded to put the board over the plumbing. So, now I have had other contractors give me bids on finishing the job and they all said that the valves need to be changed. So, I paid for 8 hours and got 4 hours and the job was not done properly. They presented me a bill with the materials. So, I paid $168.51 for materials, including trash bags which were not used or left at my homse. Both Anthony and the worker were cordial and appeared to be professional and seemed to know what needed to be done. However, it was not until I had two other contractors to look at the work did I realize I lost a lot of money here. The job was not done properly.
Description of Work: Angie's List Big Deal. $299 for 8 hr contractor services I had to make three calls to get a phone call back to set up the appointment. Anthony came on time for our agreed upon appointment time and looked at the work to be done. The tile had started to buckle around the bathtub and mold appeared underneath. I asked him what it would cost to repair the wall if my son did the demolition. He stated that it would take a day to prepare the wall to be retiled and recommended my son take everything down to the studs and to call him at that time for setting up the appointment. I followed through with his recommendation. He did not mention/recommend changing the valves in the plumbing in the wall to be retiled. The man who came to do the work did not recommend changing the valves. He completed the work in approximately 4 hours and then requested payment for materials. I was not anticipaying this charge and based on the fact that he was only there 4 hrs and not 8 I requested that he credit me the charge for materials. ( I have the receipt 168.51 / which includes trash bags for 16.84 which were not used or left at my home). I was not able to reach Anthony to try and resolve the matter while he was preparing to leave. Anthony did call the worker back and basically the materials came out of his pocket, not Mojo construction so Anthony stated he would still owe me 4 hrs of work. The job was completed in a rather sloppy manner and some sludge messy was spotted onto my carpet. Subsequently, I had two contractors over to give bids on doing the retile work. Both of them raised the question if the valves in the wall were replaced. So now the one wall has to be taken down, valves replaced and reboarded. Had the job been done correctly in the first place, the valves would have been replaced and job would have likely taken 6-8 hrs.

They were very professional and did the work quickly. My only negative is the owner did not check on his assistant's work. After the door was hung the guy just left. I was supposed to have 7 hours and only got about 5 hours of work; which I wouldn't complain about but I still have an unfinished door. There is no weather stripping and my threshold is left undone. Wish I could have had just a little more time with them in person.
Description of Work: My back door was hung incorrecly so they hung it correctly (openning out versus inside).

Found Anthony through Angie's List. Was looking for someone to redo my fireplace and hang my TV above it. The design was perfect with conduit so cables could be pulled through. He and his crew did an amazing job. Job was done in a week and every night the work area was clean, gave our place back each night. Have already recommended him to coworkers/friends and look forward to working with him again for future projects around the house. Anthony was very easy to work with. Thanks for such a great job!

I could write a book! Anthony Austin was punctual, caring of your needs, he listens to you , as well as respects your ideas, and your budget. These highly talented CORE TEAM of professionals became my family. Actually I have adopted the whole team!! I had my kitchen remodeled and there is no comparison for how they respect your home. They covered every inch of my downstairs with plastic, to keep all the dust cleared of my 2 bedrooms and wash area. Talk about cleanliness, they would vacuum at the end of the day, and wash down and sweep my garage, and driveway everyday. I need to give so much thanks to all. Not only would they be on time, do outstanding work, but also go over and beyond there professional trade with babysitting my little cocker spaniel so I could get my own tasks done! I respect every single one of Anthony's CORE TEAM and we will be seeing Anthony this December to sit down and now get ready to do our master bedroom expansion (2) bathrooms new windows, and the exceptional tile all on our staircases. We are excited! I thank God for giving me MOJO DESIGN, I was worried who I could trust. I interviewed 2 other companies who are very well known, and they never listened to me, only wanted to do what they wanted. Anthony listened to me and I built a trust with him and a life long relationship. I want to thank all of Anthony's Team: Charles, Anthony's (wing man) Always there did a fantastic job with all the plumbing, install just everything. Carlos, (Picasso) exceptional tile and stone work. What an eye! Rick, (The best electrician) knew what I wanted and went over and beyond! Brent, (The Listener) who was always there. Even on a weekend we called and Brent called back ASAP. He is the ying and yang! Anthony, He is so devoted to the project! always there, a listener, so caring about detail, and making my life so relaxed. I hated to say goodbye on the last day, it was hard for me. I stay in contact and look forward to our next project. Not soon enough. We are doing our remodel in stages, so 1/2013 come soon! Sincerely, David and Denise:) Encinitas,Ca
Description of Work: We have a tri-level town home that is 26yrs. Old and we decided to start remodeling downstairs first with our bathroom. Mojo Design came in and preped the interior for the bath remodel. They did the demolition and removed the existing tub, toilet, vanity, mirror, tub surround, flooring, interior wall between the tub and vanity, and soffit. They moved our electrical from the removed wall to joining wall. Installed recessed lighting, new Panasonic exhaust fan, reframed, and installed new tub, shower valve, toilet, (2) sinks, fixtures, and supply lines. Mojo DEsign also installed waterproofing, dense shield and tile at tub surround. They installed my tile floor, and base molding with Awsome, beautiful tile in our tub! They did all the drywall (new) did patching and repair to match existing. They installed a beautiful Italian glass top vanity with all fixtures and our over the top Awsome vanity mirrors. They also did all of the painting including the ceiling, walls, and last but not least installed all of my accessories. What can I say this company is my CONTRACTOR FOR LIFE!!!!!!!!!
Charles came in, walked through the house with me, helped me prioritize and troubleshoot, and came up with a very organized plan to fix it up all quickly and efficiently. it could not have gone more smoothly or stress-free. One stop shopping--thats for sure. I would trust them with any job, big or small i will definitely call them when I am ready to replace my windows which is my next project.
Description of Work: I needed extensive miscellaneous repairs from the dishwasher needing repair to mold in the bathroom in a very neglected rental. A wide assortment of tasks including new exhaust fans, holes in walls, holes in doors, that type of thing.

To be honest more than anything we were left confused- mostly about how the pricing added up. We emailed Anthony requesting a quote. He was punctual and met us at our condo. On first impression I would say he was not a warm person, but he also explained that he had already had 4 quotes done that day and I believe he had one after us. I get it- he was tired. As we walked through the first bathroom I felt he was well educated and well experienced, but I also felt that as I asked about certain ideas I had for the space, that he was weary and somewhat unwilling to do them. A moment or two somewhat bordered on condescending. Main example- built in his and hers wall shelves. His first thought was to tell me no and that it was a bad idea but then would somewhat consider a way to do it and a way to do it easily. Telling a client No is usually not a good tactic. Educating them on what a project would entail usually lets them decide if it's worth it. Business 101. We explained that we didn't really need a complete reno- just a basic repair, and upgrade to the shower and new tile. Existing countertops and vanity were good. We also explained we had a needs list and a wish list and would like an itemized quote to be able to decide what we could afford now and what we were going to postpone. We then explained we were also potentially wishing to make a half bath downstairs a full bath and to create a storage space downstairs under the stair case. Anthony spent about an hour at our condo and said he would get back to us in a couple days with a quote. This was a Monday. On Saturday I emailed him to say we hadn't received the quote yet and were wondering if it didn't get sent correctly. On Monday, he said he would have it to me in a couple hours. Five hours later it came through. He briefly explained that the dimensions of the lower bath had held him up as it is a tricky space to work with. I understand this but there should've been an email just saying it was going to take him a couple more days- I would've understood that but the lack of communication bothered me instantly. The quote was not broken down clearly - it seemed he threw it together. The under stairs storage space was nowhere on the quote. The downstairs bath I believe was at a reasonable price point for what it would entail. But the upstairs bath- the one we would apply a "complete remodel" coupon to -was ridiculous. If you read the coupon it says you basically pay $5K for $9K worth of work/materials. However he priced our not even complete upstairs remodel at over $8000. Yes we verified this was including the coupon, and that he hadn't split the coupon over the two baths. We had already let him know that the tile we would use was inexpensive, so it wasn't the materials that drove up the price. Even if we had done a complete gut on our upstairs bath there is no way it could've been a $13000 project (with the materials we were looking at- I mean- you can always make things more expensive if you want). Anthony did follow up with us to ask about what we thought of the pricing after about a week. This was after a clarification phone call we had made to him after receiving the quote. We told him we were still looking and eventually found someone else who did a wonderful job at about a $6K price point. I don't think $8000 is a bad price point if it were to include some of the materials. However for what were were asking for it very much made it seem like a scam. It surely was a waste of time.
Description of Work: Requested Quote in relation to coupon Mojo Design had running for a "complete bathroom remodel" priced at around 5K, for a 9k value. Estimate on bathroom repair/remodel (upstairs), potential add on to bathroom down stairs, potential storage space under stairs. Upstairs repair leaking flange (toilet) and upgrade per coupon.

The deal we got was great. They just came on time. The work that they have done so far is done very well. I would be happy to use them again.
Description of Work: It was a one-day contract. They did some work in one of our bathrooms and some other repair.
I found MOJO Design & Contracting through an Angie's Big Deal that was offered for a complete bathroom remodel ($5,000). Having read the great reviews, I contacted Anthony to discuss remodeling both bathrooms in my 1969 - 1970 house. The results far exceeded my expectations. Anthony and his team of professionals completed the work on-time and on-budget with essentially no supervision. The project began with Anthony visiting the house, taking measurements and then providing an estimate. Even though the Angie's Big Deal was only valid for 1 bathroom, Anthony agreed to remodel both bathrooms for the same discounted price. Anthony had insightful recommendations on products and design that contributed greatly to the fantastic results. For example, he recommended a local tile company whose selection was much better than anything I had been able to find on my own, all at very reasonable prices. I never even anticipated being able to afford tile work in both bathrooms, but Anthony made it happen on my tiny budget. In addition, Anthony recommended a certain brand of ventilation fans, which I learned were commonly recommended by most electricians. I was also able to count on Anthony for valuable design advice, and for making all the little decisions throughout the project that in the end made a huge difference in the outcome. I had three major requests, all of which would have been too much for most contractors. First, I wanted the project to begin in just one week. Anthony lined up the necessary team within days. Second, I needed the project to be completed in just two weeks -- an almost ridiculous request for most contractors. MOJO finished the job in just two weeks, which I truly did not expect. Finally, and perhaps most challenging, all the work had to take place without me or anyone being present at the house. Obviously, I needed to be able to trust not only Anthony, but also his entire team, to follow my written instructions and to respect the rest of the house while they worked. The team did an excellent job protecting the carpet and walls, and even moved a piece of furniture for me that was blocking their way. At the end of the job they did a thorough job cleaning up after themselves and even the minor details in the bathrooms (fixtures, paint touch ups, etc.) were taken care of with care. I expect to do further work on the house in the coming years. I have already recommended MOJO to my family and friends, and will definitely contact Anthony as soon as I am ready to begin. If you value a trustworthy, hard working, service-oriented, reliable and talented contractor, look no further than MOJO.
