Description of Work: I was experiencing my computer crashing, freezing and really acting up. Was even thinking I needed a new computer it was so bad. Took my computer CPU to Frank who works out of his mobile home in Vista. Was leaving on vacation and advised him I didn't need it for 2 weeks. Got an e-mail from Frank that day diagnosing the problem and giving be a couple of options. He replaced the hard drive and reloaded all my files. Did excellent work and was very reasonable. I'll use him again.

I will use his services for my newer computers.
Description of Work: Walked me through my options of fix vs buy new for a very old computer I called about. Very thorough and helped me come to the conclusion to buy a new machine (despite it meaning no fee) as my best option. Spent time and proved himself very knowledgeable.

It does me no good to earn a one time profit, I make far more in ther long run from a satisfied customer who refers me and is a repeat customer.

My computer did not have any out put, I replaced parts until I could not solve the problem. Took the computer in and within a day I had the answer. Took another couple days to order the parts and then he tested it to make sure I would not have any more problems. Got the perfect part the first time. It would have saved me money to seek professional help first instead of using my own knowledge. Next time I will take it in first. Works from his house but don't let that fool you. Still very professional and well worth it.
Description of Work: After my trouble shooting efforts on my computer, he took over and found what I could not. Replaced part CPU, and found a good price, Labor prices are the best. I would recommend him to all my friends.

A difficult call on diagnosis, as user had done a very through job of replacing parts .. It turned out it was his i7 CPU which he had purchased as a bare chip (meaning no Intel Warranty) had he purchased a retail boxed CPU it would have been under Intel Warranty While his fee of 400 sounds high, it was about 320.00 for the new CPU. Had my diagnosis been wrong, I would have owned a CPU I did not need. I also checked with Intel (so far as sending a photo of the CPU) to ensure the presence or lack of warranty as it could have saved him a little more than 300.00

See Above I am sorry the owner/employee of Microcenter Oceanside thought I was "badmouthing" him. That was not my intention at all. My intention was to give a honest, straightforward review of my experience with this company. When asked by the gentleman where I was located, I said "in the La Costa area". Most people know where the La Costa area is and this gives a better description of approximately the location of our home. I am fairly certain that ALL of what is known as La Costa is in the Carlsbad city limits...and if it is not all of La Costa, it is certainly the majority of La Costa being in the Carlsbad city limits...(We are fairly new to this area, so am not 100% sure of this). As I stated in my original review, I was not sure how to rate this company because they did not do the work for me. I really (I believe) have a healthy view of the world. I was/am hoping that my review would steer other 92009 residents from calling this company knowing that this company will not serve them. If this Microcenter Oceanside is not going to serve this area, it is a waste of the consumers time to research, call, and explain the services needed, AND it is a waste of time for the business. As I mentioned in my original review, a fairly simple fix to this particular issue is to change their Angie's List "Service Area Description" (another possibility is for Microcenter Oceanside to ask upfront where the potential customer lives). Again, I am sorry for the "less than stellar review," and I am sorry for how Microcenter interpreted my review, but I stand by what I stated. I appreciate Angie's List and the honest reviews of it's members.
Description of Work: I found Microcenter Oceanside on Angie's List and I called to make a time to get my computer worked on. After explaining what I needed to have done, I gave Frank the location of where I live in Carlsbad and he said, "oh, to bad, I don't service that part of Carlsbad." Huh?? They will service San Marcos, Vista but just part of Carlsbad? I might suggest that Microcenter change their Angie's List "service area description" (it states that they service Carlsbad, that is why I called them). I really do not know how to "grade" this business, but I was not impressed with the professionalism of this company. The gentleman I spoke to seemed to be a nice enough guy...

A disappointed non customer who decides to say somewhat negative things about me... hmmmm I told him that the work he wanted was worth about 60.00 and based on his verbal description of the system being in La Costa (some Carlsbad residents say La Costa if they live in Carlsbad near La Costa because La Costa is a more expensive upscale place than Carlsbad. In any case since we would have handled his job as a pick up repair then deliver and La Costa (where he told me the computer(s) are is a round trip (based on my starting address and the approximate center of La Costa and using the local major freeways ) of 36 miles and a pickup and delivery would have been 72 miles total for us, a job totaling 60.00 was non profitable. I suppose a business smart enough to not accept work where the profit is negative or at best a wash ought be considered VERY Professional. I did take the time to suggest that whoever he found to do the work ought not be much more expensive than my estimate, as the job is relatively straight forward. I am sorry he felt he had to badmouth something about a company that declined his business, it sure says something about his view of the world... Like: How dare a business decline him as a customer [member name removed], I wish you well in life and good fortune in all your endeavors, but remember businesses do not have to accept your offer of patronage. And to Angie's List: If your members are all like this (not use a company for anything but provide a negative report) perhaps businesses ought screen leads from Angie more carefully.

Microcenter Oceanside were fine. There were some issues that he had to come back about, but he was very good and prompt about that and didn't charge me for that. He's an older guy but he seemed to be very technically knowledgeable. That's, apparently, what I needed, a new hard drive. Whatever the glitch was, he came and fixed that, as well and at no extra charge. It turned out that it needed to be registered. He thought he had done that but, apparently, it didn't take. So he did that, also. He was able to do that remotely. I've had to call him about a couple of questions that weren't his issue, they were connected with the hard drive. I had to re-install some things. If my calls goes to voice mail, he's very prompt in calling back. I've had a couple of questions and he's able to answer them. He's a sole operator. He doesn't have anybody working for him. He's a little "folksy" around the edges, but that's okay.
Description of Work: They installed a new hard drive into my computer.

As always a satisfied customer.. She found me via Angies List and seems satisfied that I performed work at a fair charge and did a good job. Of course that is all anybody wants these days, however all too often we find the repair services charging so much for service we buy replacement items rather than fix things. As always I am happry to fox something of that is what is wanted.

He was very professional. He is just very knowledgeable. It is not like he hands it off to other people. I pretty much stood there while he did the work and saw what he did and everything. I really appreciated his effort and he did a great job.

My parents computer was locked up and would not connect to the internet. Since they have absolutely no computer knowledge and all of the basic trouble shooting and rebooting that could be done over the phone with them was done by a couple of family members with no results, they decided to take it in for repair. Frank fixed whatever had mysteriously locked up the computer . He also ran diagnostics and took the time to discuss the problem with the family over the phone to tell them what had been done and he did this at a very reasonable cost. His honesty is very much appreciated.
Description of Work: The computer was locked up and would not access any programs. the desktop would come up but couldn't access programs or get online. Could not get to task manager and rebooting wouldn't reset it.

Here was a case of an older couple with no family in the area who have a computer savy son too far away to help. Ha called me due to being close to hs parents and after a hne "interview" elected to try my services. His review (and my price) reflects compassion for an elderly couple living on a fixed income and the amount of work I had to do. Chalk up another satisfied customer.

I needed my 2 computers serviced- he gave me some advice over the phone and then sent a guy out that afternoon. Very happy with my service guy and the company. I can't give you details - my laptop and desktop were not working - he fixed them. All's right with the world again :-) The price was reasonable ($100) - I don't have a comparison - but it seemed fair to me, especially to have them come to me and on the day I called - how great is that? They did have to take the desktop CPU in - and that repair was an additional $180 and took several days - but I am happy about it all. It's working great now and I don't have to buy a new one did I say I was happy?
Description of Work: Fixed laptop and desk top computers. Lap top was running super slow and desk top was completely crashed

We had a problem with one of our computers and called them to see if they could fix it. The person who answered the telephone was very informative, so we decided to use them and found their service to be spot-on. I felt they were honest and I enjoyed their helpful attitude. I would recommend them to anyone interested in getting computer work done.
Description of Work: The problem was that our computer wasn't booting up. The hard drive had become damaged or something like that, they told us. (They probably used a more accurate description.) Anyway, they knew immediately what was wrong and fixed it immediately. Very impressed!

Once again we have a documented case of a "mechanic" who knows their stuff and places a fair price on it. Often I am asked my price per hour ... I usually ask why that matters and am often told that te customer is concerned about price. Cost per hour doesn't mean a thing as a correctly priced service hour is based on work able to be typically performed in an hour as well as depth and breadth of knowledge used for diagnosis & repair. As for me I have been professionally employed (or self employed) in technical soft and hardware computer service and support since the early 1990's.

It's a one owner operation, his name is Frank Roche, and he's a really nice guy. When I bought the computer he gave me the instructions and told me he would back me up if I had problems, so whenever something happens we sit on the telephone with him and we fix it. He doesn't charge me for this service, he charged me 689 for the computer.
Description of Work: I bought my new computer there last year, but I don't know the memory size or processor. Whenever I have a problem, I call them for help. The last time I had a problem with the network router and he have me instructions on the phone until we solved it.

It's a shame it requires an "Angies List" to verify service providers. Time was when you used a service provider no integrity checks were needed and a persons word was their bond. My customers (even the non Angies List ones) all refer me to friends and family alike, kust like the mechanic you found that isn't a crook AND knows their stuff!
