I'm about to use them as the broker for the 4th time. I've never had a problem (other than a *carrier* who flaked out), and was amazed at all the negative reviews here. This company has policies that may be unique in the industry: 1. They don't take a deposit until they've found a carrier. 2. You can research the carrier and request another, if you don't like the reviews. 3. In the unlikely event that your car is damaged and the carrier's insurance doesn't cover the full cost, Ship a Car Direct will pay the difference, to ensure that you pay nothing for repairs.. Their website has videos that are very helpful in understanding the process, and I recommend watching them even if you're using someone else.

I'll cut to the chase to save you from reading my rant: DO NOT USE THESE GUYS! This process has been a nightmare. If you wan't to roll the dice; take your chances, but I would highly recommend avoiding these guys at all cost. They will seem perfect up until the point you pay them. Once they get their money, you will not hear from them again. I had my vehicle shipped across the country using Ship a Car Direct and was "helped" by Stephan. Initially, Stephan was very helpful, informative, and always returned my calls if he missed them. I received an email from Stephan stating that they had found a company to ship my car. I looked up this company and found many bad reviews. When I called Stephan to voice my concern, he assured me that I am in good hands and made me feel like everything was going to be fine and he will help me if I ran into any issues. Sounds great, right? Nope. Once the vehicle was picked up and the driver loaded my car, he failed to put down wood blocks and scrapped my front bumper leaving heavy damage on the undercarriage. I have photos of the car getting scrapped as it was happening that my seller sent me. As soon as I saw this, I called Stephan; voicemail. I left him a message letting him know of the damage. This was on Saturday, so I figured he was out of the office.. No problem. After not hearing back from him I called again on Monday. Voicemail... I called again on Wednesday... Voicemail... Called on Friday. Voicemail.. Once The following Monday came around I had had enough. I called headquarters and spoke with someone about the damages. She immediately got defensive and asked if I had used the Ship-A-Car direct app to take photos of the car before pickup. I informed her that I had never received any information about the app. After searching through all the emails sent to me from Stephan, I realized that on the bottom of one email they briefly mention an app. I guess I was supposed to filter through the emails, discover the mention of the app, and have the seller take photos of the undercarriage and underside of the front bumper (because I have psychic abilities and am able to predict future damage of the vehicle.) Anyways... They informed me I had to provide photos of the damaged areas before and after, the Bill of Lading for pickup as well as delivery, and email the ever so helpful Stephan and cc: [email protected]. So, I emailed both of them explaining the situation and providing the photos of the car getting scrapped, a PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) of the car that highlighted no such damages, and the drop of Bill of Lading. (I did not have the pick up Bill of Lading since I purchased the car off eBay from a man on the otherside of the country). The seller of the vehicle didn't think anything of the paper and misplaced it. I have yet to here from Jerry or Stefan. I tried calling once again and big shocker... Voicemail! I have no problems with mistakes, as I understand they happen. But this company will take your money and run. They don't care about your car and once they get paid you will not hear from them again. DO NOT USE THEM. They will damage your vehicle and you won't hear from them again. Very disappointed. Now my brand-new car is damaged and there is nothing for me to do expect try to warn others of my experience. If for whatever reason you use these guys anyways; be sure to follow these steps: 1. Download their mobile app 2. Upload TONS of photos of the car; inside and out. Get the front bumper, fenders, everything! 3. Have the seller (or whoever will be with the car getting picked up) go through the Bill of Lading and be very very specific. Keep the paper in a safe spot. 4. Once the car is delivered to you, do the same as stated above and inspect EVERY inch of the vehicle. Don't feel rushed. Look over every inch of your vehicle and check for any damage on the front bumper, undercarriage, seats, everything. 5. Pray they answer your phone calls Very disappointing experience and can't express my dissatisfaction with this company enough. Pathetic.

We are using the same response for all of the reviews that were copied and pasted to different sites. We apologize for the experience you have had and have since refunded your fee towards your damage claim. Since filing the claim with us on 3/13/17 at 7:21pm EST you went ahead and posted reviews on every site you could find without giving us 24 hours to look into and respond to your claim. We have tried to call you yesterday and today and we have not heard back yet. If you just want to vent and post bad reviews that is fine, but if you would like to resolve this please give us a call back so we can help walk you through the claims process. We have already refunded our fee to you, if you would like further reimbursement towards the damage, we can help you through the same damage claim process that everyone else needs to go through. I, on the other hand, even though I booked 3 weeks before I needed the car shipped from Long Island to California-did not receive even one bid. We spoke with David every few days and sometimes a couple of times a day asking repeatedly for updates. Asking where else we could bring the car and have it picked up and each time we stated other areas we would drive to connect with a carrier-David never even gave us ONE OPTION. Each call, we had to start again-tell him other terminals we could bring the car to, the fact that the dates were firm-that we had sold our home and needed the car picked up. We never were told that we needed to start even more than 3 weeks before and offer earlier pickup dates, that it was too close to Christmas for a pickup. It was like we never had the conversation each time David called back, and we had to offer alternatives all over again. We were loyal and listened to him that we shouldn't contact more than one broker, because it would muddy the water. As a result, we were left by Ship a Car Direct with no transport and no hope of obtaining one. Finally, I called a driver directly (that had shipped my son's car 3 years prior) who was no longer driving this route. However, he led me to his best shipping contact, Premier Shipping (not the one listed on Angie's List) but one in California-with an AAA+ rating. I called Kevin, his contact directly-and within 2 hours he had a driver to take my car to California the very next day. Now, I did have to bring the car to NJ to meet the driver because of the late date I was contacting him and he had already started his route-but there was actually someone offered who could take the car to California-otherwise I would have had to turn it in to the dealer, and pay the 8 months of lease left, without having the car to drive because Ship a Car Direct offered me absolutely no carrier and no other options! I will continue the review, after the car is delivered in California-but I would never contact Ship a Car Direct Again-they just put 0 effort into even trying to obtain a driver for me-just ridiculous!

Not timely at all. Got an estimate quickly but when it came to the actual pickup I got nothing but "we are working on arranging with a carrier". Finally after 4 days of this I had had enough. Called another carrier and had pickup arranged within two hours. Relocating with an aggressive timeline is stressful enough without having to play games with a car company.

it was a nightmare. Once they had my money, I couldn't get a straight answer from the representative Angela. When I tried to get an appointment, I had to go through hoops. It was horrible. Then they didn't show up when the said they would. They gave me a different date but I didn't want it. They very uncoordinated and treated me shabbily. I tried to speak to a manager but was told there wasn't one. Cancelled services. Refunded $225.

Description of Work: Moved 2 cars from NJ to LA. Initial transporter was poor, had to insist on change. After that no difficulties. Both transporters that did the job were very good, however consumers beware you most advocate for yourselves and assure the transporter the service choices meets your needs. Remember the agency is always trying to save money, while getting your car to the destination.

Description of Work: Our two cars were picked up an shipped from San Diego to Spokane.They were responsive in explaining the auto shipping process which is somewhat exasperating because the prices vary depending on other people also shipping on same regular route. But they really came through for us.

Once the car was picked up, it was delivered in a timely manner in good condition. I was moving to Philadelphia from Miami and had a flight out on the morning of April 19th. The movers had picked up my furniture and I didn't have the leeway to wait for a carrier. But since I booked March 1st, I should have been assured of a carrier. Again, I felt Tom Miller was extorting money from me to transport my car from Miami, FL to Philadelphia, PA
Description of Work: The quoted amount was $650.00 on March 1st. As the time for pickup became imminent, Tom Miller could not assure me that the car would be picked up at all. He said he is a broker and the carriers are independent. He indicated unequivocally that it was "all about the money, money, money" whether a carrier would pick up the job. By April 14th when a pick up date was still not certain, I offered $900 to transport my car. Tom Miller said, "You're not much of a gambler, are you?" This was extortion.

My first contact with this broker was 3/17/2014. He said it would "take a few days" to find a hauler. About 5 days later he said we'd been assigned a hauler and would need to pay a $225 deposit - then we'd receive the hauler's contact. I checked the hauler's feedback on the Internet (Grasshopper Auto - not an Angie's List provider) and the first review stated "it took the police to get my car released from Grasshopper after two weeks". So, I informed the broker I wanted a hauler with a better reputation. Days passed and 17 emails and several phone calls later Ship A Car Direct's response was still "I'm still looking". Today is March 26 and I've heard nothing. I've cancelled the order. Although price was not the prime consideration, I've found another broker who has quoted a lower price and has guaranteed me a pick up in 3 days and a delivery on April 2nd.

With our sincere apologies and the utmost respect, please allow me to fill in some of the blanks that [member name removed] has not shared in this review. Yes, she placed an order in the afternoon on the 17th and it DID take a couple of days to find a carrier that met her needs; and on the morning of the 20th we provided her with Grasshoppers name and number as well as the opportunity to research them herself. In doing so, she apparently found the review she speaks of, and even after being reassured that every carrier we use has been fully vetted and is backed by our damage free guarantee, she chose to pass on them and seek another. Which is absolutely fine, folks, we're happy to do this at your request. But keep in mind two things: First, EVERY carrier (and broker, ourselves included) is going to have at least one negative review (this one being a good case in point). Secondly, the whole REASON to hire a company like ours is that you (respectfully) have no idea what makes a carrier good or bad, but we do. We have YEARS of experience. That's what you are paying us for. And believe me, we don't put our own money behind bad carriers - we just don't use them. So, if they're on our list, they are worthy of being there and we stand behind them. But, back to our story. The multiple emails and phone calls that went back and forth over the next couple days were not in vain, as her review implies, but were to go over the other carrier options that we presented to her. On the 21st, she was presented with Bullet Auto Express as an option - which after some emails/calls back and forth again, she decided she didn't like Bullet either. SO - back to the drawing board we went for her again. The next option given was Lopez Auto. However, after being assigned to Lopez, she informed us that the vehicle could not be delivered until AFTER 4/2 - Lopez wanted to get it there sooner. Not exactly a negative, in our opinion, but we had to pass on Lopez too. At this point, our carrier options started to diminish. The reason that happened is that [member name removed] clearly put out a double listing for her order. (check our blog for explanations about why this is a terrible idea) Regarding this, she could have been honest with us about it, we would have gladly bowed out at this point and refunded any fees she had paid, but what she decided to do instead was to ultimately call us and lie about driving it "due to a medical emergency". We obviously gave her our sincere apologies and offered to credit her back the money she paid to us. But she chose instead to chargeback her credit card and write a bad review, a review which doesn't contain the full story. I offer this to fully flesh out the experience, so that you may more clearly decide how you feel it was handled on our end. Now, I am usually the last person to 'defend ourselves' in online reviews. Fortunately, we don't get many negatives and usually just say we're sorry (which we are here too), but I respect the Angie's List platform too much to NOT share both sides of the story. In conclusion, if you choose to use us, folks, remember that you are using us to SCREEN carriers for you and that we are professionals who put our OWN money behind our selection. If your inclination is to not trust us nor our judgement, then we are clearly not the right choice for you. And that's okay too.

TOM AT SAFE-DIRECT WAS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND HELPFUL. THINGS COULDN'T HAVE GONE EASIER. NO DEPOSIT WAS REQUIRED UNTIL THE CARRIER WAS IDENTIFIED. THE CARRIER WAS PROMPT AND COURTEOUS, PLUS THE CAR GOT TO SEATTLE ONE DAY EARLIER THAN EXPECTED. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE WHO HAS TO SHIP A CAR.
