I am so happy being a member of Angie's List. This is where I found Coughlin Window and Door co. in Esc. After reading the company reviews I decided to call them. Gerald (owner) came over showed me the work they had performed with other customers. He then gave me an estimate on four large windows. That was so reasonable I said lets do it. Two employee's Matt and Nick came over. Watching them work was the best experience I ever had as they were so professional and courteous. Excellent job. Thank you Coughlin....Thankyou Angie's List.

Let me start off by saying that I have never met such a well run, professional and courteous company as Coughlin Windows and Doors. We just bought a house in Carlsbad that needed a patio door, exterior garage door and 6 replacement windows. The windows were fixed and I had them replaced with single hung windows. I was told by another large window company in Carlsbad that the windows could not be replaced unless I was willing to incur the cost of exterior stucco damage.I called Gerald and he came out to the house to give me an estimate and his assessment on the windows. He assured me the windows could in fact be replaced and there would be no stucco damage at all. He was right. The six windows he replaced are beautiful and match the existing window in the home. You cannot even tell the difference. The doors are of very high quality and I am thrilled with the finished product.I have to mention that Steve and Matt were really nice guys and very polite and courteous. This was a fantastic experience and it was a pleasure dealing with a company that delivers what they promise. They were always on time, were very neat and were sticklers for perfection.Do not hesitate for one second in choosing Coughlin for you door and window needs.

After reading the reviews on Angie's list we decided to call Gerald Coughlin. We would not have even known about his company but for the Angie's list! Gerald came to our home to discuss with us our options and costs. One of our concerns was that the new windows were matched to the existing windows to maintain the architecture continuity of our house. We decided to have three windows replaced first and then decide if we should proceed with more replacements. We can report that we are VERY SATISFIED with the entire process! Gerald's team includes Matt , Josh and Steve who are equally professional, courteous, and respectful ! These young men are the kind of people you would want to welcome as friends! The windows were installed perfectly. The location was cleaned. The entire experience was a delight! We are planning to have the remainder of our windows replaced as well as a door or two! Gerald Coughlin is the one you should hire ! We give him the highest grade that Angie's List offers!
Description of Work: Our home is @3300 sq.ft. 11 years old and unfortunately some of the windows were of poor quality and in need of replacement ! We had three existing windows replaced. One of the windows was changed from a fixed to a single hung opening window. All windows were on the second story of a two story house.

Gerald and his crew did a great job of installing our windows, and sliders. In fact, the floor guy we hired, told us that Gerald's crew was the most professional, and cleanest window install he has ever seen. We are very happy with his work, and would definately recommend him to friends, and family if they are in the market for new windows, and sliders.

Perfectly. I was a bit apprehensive about having new windows installed. We purchased new hardwood floors last year and I was afraid of having them damaged. My fears were not necessary since Gerald's crew take extra care with everything. I can honestly say that my house is cleaner now than before they started. Gerald's crew are all extremely polite, friendly and caring. I enjoyed having them around while they installed the windows. They installed all 28 windows and 1 door in 3 and 1/2 days, removed all of my window coverings and re-installed them, and cleaned up everything. We are extremely happy with the process and would not hesitate to recommend Coughlin Windows and Doors to my neighbors and friends.
Description of Work: We had 28 windows and 1 sliding glass door replaced. We started by having an energy audit performed and as part of it, it was recommended that our old single-paned windows be replaced. Prior to the install, our air leakage was 45%. After insulation and the new windows, our air leakage went to 11%. Additionally, the BAS (cubic square feet of air that circulates in the house per hour) went from 2170 to 1520. The healthy range is from 1250 to 1700, so we are now in the correct range. We have noticed that since the windows have been installed, our temperature stays constant in our house. We noticed that it is 70 degrees in the house when we go to bed and when we wake up at 6:00 am, it is still 70 degrees. The furnace did not run throughout the night even though the outside temperature was 45 degrees. I contacted Coughlin Windows based on the high marks given on Angie's List by prior customers. We are extremely happy with the job that Gerald Coughlin and his crew did with the installation. I learned a lot about windows while interviewing Gerald and three other companies. Gerald was the only one to fully explain the installation process, warranty and the quality of various windows. As I learned, several windows are comparable, but the most important part is the installation. This is the area where Gerald's company shines. His crew of Steve, Matt and Josh are incredible. They go above and beyond with their attention to detail. Steve checks and re-checks their work making everything perfect. Steve even fixed a broken piece of my hardwood floor that butted up to the sliding glass door that I had previously cracked, and even, on his own time, purchased special sealant that matched my hardwood floors exactly. We could not have been happier.

After meeting the owner, Gerald Coughlin, I decided he would take care of us as people and not treat us as another sale. I also thought the company that manufactures Coughlin's windows, Simonton, offered the product that made the most sense for our home. The new frames aren't as bulky as the others we considered and because of that, our blinds continue to fit inside the openings rather than stick out several inches from the wall. Coughlin also reinstalled our blinds, a nice touch that we liked. The dual-paned windows were ready for installation approximately two weeks after Mr. Coughlin submitted the order, two weeks ahead of the earliest estimate the other vendors provided. This was important because we hired a company to paint our house and the sooner the windows were in, the sooner we could get the painting done. The windows arrived when promised, Coughlin's employees installed them when promised and finished the job on time (two days) in a professional and business-like manner. We sought a meticulous, high-quality installation rather than getting the work done in a day and this company provided that. Mr. Coughlin also stayed in touch with us throughout and we liked his strong customer service and care. We've only had the windows in about 8 days and we are amazed at how much more stable our indoor temperature is. We run the heat 50% less frequently than we did last year at this time and for much shorter periods. The house is much quieter, too. Wow and thanks for taking good care of us, Gerald. P.S. I highly recommend the State of California's website that allows people to verify licensed contractors' licenses: https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/OnlineServices/CheckLicenseII/checklicense.aspx. This site also has great advice about hiring licensed contractors.
Description of Work: We hired Coughlin Windows and Doors, Inc. to install vinyl-insert windows. We contacted two other vendors (all highly rated on Angie's List) and after a competitive bid process hired Coughlin. Our 1951 La Mesa house is 1,056 square feet and we replaced 9 windows. The windows were original single-paned casements in metal frames. Six of the 9 replacements are horizontal sliders and 3 are casements. Casements cost a little more but cup the prevailing westerly breeze well on the south side of our house. Sliders are fine for the west-facing windows and those we don't open much. As far as cost, all the vendors came in around $5000.

Coughlin Windows & Doors, Inc. was one of four companies that we contacted to obtain bids. Gerald Coughlin came out initially to look over the project, take approximate window measurements and go over various manufacturer options (there are quite a few!). Within a few days, we had an estimate. Three of the estimates (including Gerald's) were extremely close and we ended up basing our decision to go with Coughlin on Angie's List recommendations and the fine impression we had of Gerald and his company after meeting with him. When we were ready to go ahead, Gerald returned with Steve, who took detailed measurements of all the existing windows, while Gerald reviewed our choices for window types, trim and decorative grilles. Steve even managed to find evidence of a minor roof leak that we were unaware of, during his survey. A month or so later, Gerald called to say the windows were scheduled to be shipped and we set up the start date. On the scheduled day, Steve (and his assistant Josh) showed up at the appointed time and got to work. At the same time, Gerald's recommended contractor (who also did an excellent job) got to work cutting an opening and framing out for the new window. The installation was clean, efficient and of very high quality. All packaging, debris and waste was removed and all work areas cleared at the end of each working day. By the fifth day, Steve was finishing up on the last of the boxing and casing trim and Gerald came by to look over the finished product. We couldn't be happier with the results. The windows themselves are excellent (the high performance dual glazing makes a huge difference in terms of solar heat gain and noise control), but the real standouts are the owner and his employees, whose professionalism and attention to detail made this a superb improvement to our home. We're happy to highly recommend this company (it would be nice if Angie's List had an A+ rating).
Description of Work: Coughlin Windows & Doors, Inc. installed 18 retrofit windows and 1 completely new window (new framed opening). Coughlin didn't provide building permit services or contractor services (framing, drywall, stucco) for the new window, but did supervise the installation and flashing of the new window. We opted for the more expensive Milgard fiberglass windows over vinyl, due to the overall appearance, feel and quality of fiberglass windows. In additional to installing the windows, Coughlin provided boxing and casing trim around 8 of the windows. Boxing and casing trim was installed primed and ready for painting.

Gerald, the owner of Coughlin Windows was a pleasure to work with. From the initial estimate to the finished product, he communicated with me every step of the way. A former installer himself, he knows what quality work looks like and he is very much a part of the entire process. Of the estimates I got, he was the only company owner to do his own estimate. The other companies sent out "sales" people. Coughlin is a family owned and operated company and Gerald is amazing to work with. Also, the other companies had a lifetime warranty EXCEPT if the house is sold--then it turns into a 10 year warranty from the install date. Coughlin Windows has a lifetime warranty regardless of who owns the home.

Gerald was quick to respond to my request for an estimate. Steve came out to measure and was also in charge of the installation. They were both so easy to work with, and always returned calls/emails when promised. They showed up early for installation to accommodate my schedule, and did a great job. I couldn't be happier with my new windows, and I would recommend this company to everyone.

The estimate was done by Steve, but I met with Gerald to do the paperwork. Steve came on time on the day scheduled. The work was done well. Both Steve and his partner that day were careful and meticulous with details. They were courteous and considerate and cleaned up completely when they were finished. The two sliders and picture window are beautiful, as is the detail work around them. The work was completed in one day as promised, and I got a follow-up call from Gerald to be sure I was satisfied with their work and the windows. I am very happy with my experience with this company, and I definitely would use them again.

It was a pleasant experience to work with Gerald and his employees throughout this process. Gerald was professional and courteous from the first contact. He came to our home for initial measurements and showed me options in two different window lines, explained available manufacturer rebates and tax credits. He provided initial estimates for multiple options (single color vs. different colors for inside and out; sliding glass door vs. French door). Once my husband and I decided to go with him company he came again with the samples so that my husband could see them. Once we made our final decision he came again for final measurements. A few weeks later (we went with the tan on the outside and white on the inside so it took a little longer than it would have if we had the same color inside and out) his crew was here to install. They were both polite and professional and went straight to work. In addition to replacing the windows they added our choice of trim around the sliding glass doors and pane glass window and cleaned up thoroughly afterward. In the end we have beautiful windows. We noticed reduction of outside noise immediately and hope that the windows will have a similar effect on our electric bill. We have no hesitation in recommending this company to our family and friends.

We had called after getting a recommendation from Angie's List after we had leaks on our back wall from the big storms in December 2010. His estimator came out and showed us our options, brought a sample of the window and was very knowledgable and courteous. He came out at 7pm, which was the agreed upon time. He also recommended a great stucco company since our problem was related to the initial build of the house and the windows were where the leaks came from. I will make my report on the stucco company also, as they did a stellar job on our back wall. We had to wait because the rains would not stop until the middle of March, but once a weather window opened up, the windows were installed, flashed and ready in a matter of a few days. There was one problem, the bathroom window that was ordered was the wrong size. Not only did Gerald, the owner of Coughlin Windows pay for the modification of the window hole including drywall work, he took a few dollars off of the bill to make up for the mistake. It didn't matter if the mistake was made by either him or manufacturer, he was willing to make it right immediately. We discussed the options of either ordering another window, or working with the window we had. In the interest of saving time we worked with the window that was shipped, and I am glad that I did. After the windows and the sliding door(which, by the way, was framed in casing and looks incredible) were installed, the stucco men finished their work, and Gerald and his crew came back, cleaned all of the windows both inside and out, hung all of the blinds and made sure that everything was working perfectly. He even adjusted the sliding screen door, because he thought that it was too noisy. We are going to be replacing all of the windows in the house as money permits, and we will be using Coughlin Windows without hesitation. He will even do retrofit replacements a few windows at a time for us. I would not go with any other company, as Gerald personally kept contact with us, arranged for the drywall repairs and arranged the stucco repair as well. I was very pleased with the professionalism and courtesy of all of his employees as well as the recommended contractors for both the drywall and the stucco work. If I could give a higher grade than an A, I would.

I must state first, without hyperbole, that working with Coughlin Windows and Doors has been the *best* interaction I've had with any contractor since I became a homeowner. A's across the board, and would give A+'s if possible. For example: Responsiveness: from the time that I asked for an estimate, to the time that we scheduled a day for installation, Gerald Coughlin of Coughlin Windows and Doors responded to me within 24 hours, via phone or email contact. No exceptions, and very impressive. Professionalism: the intangible quality of contractors, Gerald and his co-employee, Steve, were very respectful of our time and home. When they showed up to do the work, they were considerate and polite. They were well-dressed and clean; you could tell they simply took pride in their work. The overall effect on the installation was obvious, and we're pleased with the results. Quality of Product: Looks great, and with the low-e glass, keeps our master bedroom surprisingly cool, even though we get direct sunlight most of the day. I would anticipate lower A/C bills as the summer moves forward into the brutal July and August months. Price: His price was the most reasonable of the two other contractors we obtained estimates from. In addition, he never tried to upsell, which I feel should be reserved instead for unsavory contractors and ubiquitous fast food restaurants. No, Gerald basically asked us what we wanted, what style we preferred, any accoutrements we might like (e.g. brushed nickel handles for the sliding glass door), and our preferences for energy-efficiency models. He tailored the result to meet all those criteria, and made it happen. Excellent experience. In a nutshell, Coughlin Windows and Doors exemplifies what a good contractor is. Highest recommendation on all fronts, and would use again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: We hired Coughlin Windows and Doors to replace an old, aluminum sliding glass door in our master bedroom. We were looking for a good quality sliding door with security features, low-e emissivity glass, and overall look that matched other doors in the house.

The guy came out on time for the free inspection, when he was supposed to. He inspected the damaged door and promised us an estimate before noon the next day when we had a meeting with an insurance adjustor. We did not get that estimate at all and the next day I called. He apologized and again promised an estimate the next day. That was two weeks ago and I have never received an estimate or any further contact.

He is extremely personable and thorough when presenting the different options. All questions were answered completely. His prices are very fair and competitive. When I went to have my windows replaced I wanted a reputable company that could get the job done. Angie?s list made the process of finding these companies really easy. Once I found a few, I did some price shopping and settled on Coughlin Windows and Doors. The fact that they are located here in San Diego County also made the decision an easy one. From the minute I started doing business with Coughlin I got the impression that they took pride in their craft. Steve was highly motivated throughout the entire process. If I ever need windows or doors replaced again I won?t hesitate to call Caughlin.

Gerald is fantastic to work with. He is professional, friendly, and has great follow through. I picked him because he had the best quote, the doors he uses are great quality (really alot of doors have the same stats) and really I liked him the best when I met him. Our doors arrived promptly (sooner than he originally thought). The two gentlemen that arrived to install the doors were courteous, friendly and very professional. Upon the arrival of the doors from the manufacturer to the Coullahan shop the screen was damaged. They informed me of this upon their arrival with the doors-this didn't bother me and I trusted them to bring me a new screen. Gerald contacted me soon after to check on the new doors and personally came over with the new screen when it arrived to fit and install it. I have to note that Steve one of our installers noticed (I didn't even think about it) that the trim he brought to case the door in was not the same as what was installed on the other door of the house) and that he would go and get different casing during his lunch so that it would be a perfect match. And gave me a great reference for a moulding company that proved to be wonderful as well. Yes I think their prices are more than fair and yes I would refer them to even my grandmother

I contacted Coughlin Windows and Doors to replace the glass in a broken picture window. I left a detailed message so they knew what I needed. Gerald Coughlin promptly returned my call and told me it is not a service they provide. This impressed me because other contractors have not even bothered to return a call that would not lead to a job for them. I was further blown away when Gerald gave me the name and number of another provider who does replace the glass in picture windows and told me to use his name as a reference. I did use the suggested provider* and was extremely pleased. For my future window and door needs, I will be using Coughlin Windows and Doors, Inc. * Kenny at Park Place Screen and Glass is who Gerald referred me to for glass replacement.
Description of Work: Although Coughlin Windows and Doors does not provide the service I needed ( replace picture window glass) my interactions with them was very professional and they went beyond my expectations in providing me with the name of a provider whose work ethic and price was impeccable. This, combined with my interaction with Gerald Coughlin, is a reflection of Coughlin's Windows and Doors business ethic as well. I have also written more you can read on my overall feedback.

Gerald showed up on time to do estimate. He was very professional, well spoken and knew exactly what he needed to do. After giving him deposit to order windows, we scheduled a date and time for him to begin the work about a week later. He showed up on time to begin work. It took him two days to do all three windows. Gerald is meticulous with his work. His tools are lined up neatly, and he proceeded in an orderly manner. At the end of each day, Gerald swept the area and left the area neat. After two days, I was left with three beautiful new windows. I would highly recommend Gerald to do any window/door work. He is wonderful to work with.
Description of Work: New construction windows. Replaced one old aluminum window with "new construction" window the same size. Removed small old aluminum window and replaced with much larger window. Installed a window in a bathroom that previously had no window. Price above includes price for windows. Windows were on smaller size. After drywaller fixed drywall (not included in price) he came back to add molding to windows.

After reading all the good things here, contacted Gerald by email to get an estimate on some work we needed done in our home. Took two days to get a reply - expected one much sooner. Thought we had a time set for him to come by but he never came that day. It then took a week to get another reply and finally got him out here about 2 weeks from initial contact. In my mind that is too long. He was supposed to install a light when he came to meet with us the first time, but when he got here said he would have to do it another time. Showed him all the work we needed done, and he said he would get back to us in two days with an estimate for all the work we needed done. It has now been a week and we still have not heard back from him.
Description of Work: Only got as far as meeting him and showing him work we needed estimate for.
