It went absolutely terrible. I confronted Rick about his work ethic and he excused it by saying everything took longer than anticipated. Then I asked him why he didn't show up for 3 days and he came up with some other excuses, one of them being that he got sick...for the second week in a row. The few days rick did show up to work, he was either texting or on the phone with his wife for (with no exaggeration) 50% of the time. Rick brought very few of his own tools, so he used all of mine, which was fine. The part that bothered me was that he left my tools all over the place. I still don?t know where all of them are. He didn't clean up AT ALL. He left Thirstbuster cups all over the place, all the popcorn from the ceilings on the ground, a 2 Little Caesars pizza boxes, multiple candy/chips/etc all over my house (not in trash cans). I even walked in and found a banana peel on the ground, that was left there for 4 days until I picked it up. All in all, I pretty much paid Rick $1250.00 partially scrape the popcorn off my ceilings. Everything else I either did for him because he wouldn't show up to work, or I had to redo (like the paint) because it was so poorly done. Now I'm out $1250.00 (just for labor), , another $650.00 to have a plumber properly install the tub, $400.00+ in extra materials, my time spend (unscrewing all of his f-ups), extra paint, and a ceiling fan. I hate cleaning up after people. You know how the saying goes, "if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself."
Description of Work: **I had to push my floor installers back by 8 days because Rick couldn’t meet his deadline that he himself set. Removing popcorn- Rick, his teenage kids and his sister scraped the ceilings. They didn't remove all the popcorn, and completely neglected some areas. They left inches of popcorn all over the floor for 3 days and finally I just cleaned it up because he apparently wasn't going to do it. Texturing Ceilings- Rick got Texture (dry wall mud shot out of a gun) all over the walls and would not clean it off. I asked him about it and he said, "it will come off easily on you final clean up before you move in." Dry wall mud doesn't come off easily because once it gets wet it turns into a mud and smears everywhere leaving a white film all over the walls. I had to repaint all of the walls that joined to ceilings that he textured. Rick poured over a gallon of texture on my new laminate flooring and on my fireplace and he just left it there. After he left I cleaned it so it didn’t ruin the laminate. They were already ruined though from the few tools that he brought, he stored on top of the laminate so they were all dinged up. Painting Ceilings- Rick took several days off of work and my move-in was rapidly nearing so I began painting the ceilings. I painted just about all of the downstairs because he wouldn't show up to work for 3 days. The parts that he did paint looked absolutely terrible because he used a flat white paint and it brought out all of the imperfections where he missed removing the popcorn. He offered to reimburse me $200.00 for how badly they came out and (at the time I didn't know of his (lack of) work ethic, so I told him to just roll it into the next job I WAS going to have him do. I never saw that money either. When Rick's son was removing a ceiling fan, he dropped it and totally ruined it. I just today had asked him for reimbursement and he said that he would give me $30.00 for a $130.00 fan. When I asked him for full reimbursement for the price of the fan, he actually said, "I can send you a bill of the man hours it took to remove the fans, and we can see where the balance falls." That was real professional. Thanks Rick. Painting the walls- Rick's painting came out terrible. The trim was much lighter than the rest of the walls and the previous paint was clearly visible. Most of the walls have patches where not enough paint was applied. Not only that, but again, he didn't show up for 3 days so I painted approximately 70% of what I paid Rick to paint. I also had to repaint 13/14 walls that he painted. On the accent walls he painted random (approximately) 3"x12" lines of the wrong color for no apparent reason. The part that p***** me off the most, was that he meaninglessly painted over drywall mud (where I patched a hole) so then I couldn't wipe away the excess mud that filled in some of the wall texturing. In the kitchen he ran out of paint, and instead of telling me that he needed more paint to properly do the job, he went extremely thin with the paint to make it last, and you can see the old paint better than the new paint. Thank you Rick. Installing bathtub- Rick told my 2 floor installers and myself all at once, that the tub would be done the following day… Rick didn't show up for next 3 days so the bath tub was halfway installed for about a week. Additionally, he left the water turned on (with only the copper pipe coming out of the wall as the faucet) and didn't let anybody know, so when I turned the main water line to my house on, it flooded out my bathroom. When I stepped in it the first time to take shower it felt like the bottom was all mushy. Where ever I stepped, it sank, which will further break the seal to the drain, and create a nice leak ruining your floor/ceiling. Now I have to pay someone to unfu** the tub. Patching a 2'x4' hole- I had cut the hole to an even (pretty close to perfect) 2'x4' hole. He cut a piece of drywall and screwed it in. I can clearly see where he taped the drywall. When I asked him to redo it he said, "did you paint it yet? Once you paint it you won't be able to see it." Stupidly, I painted over it and you can see the tape clear as day. Thanks Rick --that's just one more thing that I have to redo.
