Year 2010 - I took my 3 yr. old Sears Kenmore Progressive upright vacuum in to Vincent?s shop (Peoria Vacuum) to be fixed because the belt kept breaking after it was changed. Vincent ?fixed? it and charged me around $44. Then immediately after that, I used it once and the belt broke again. I took it back and he had it for another week or so. When I went to pick it up he said he could not fix it this time. When I asked him if he could replace the part that keeps breaking the belt he became upset, acted weird and was quarrelsome. I thought at the time I would never go back to him again and so then took that machine to Sears repair and they fixed it no problem. Peoria Vacuum gets grade ?F? for that one. Fast forward to Jan 2015. This last January, my older ?rental? vacuum (Hoover) was broken by my tenant who was renting at the time. Since Vincent at Peoria Vacuum specializes in Hoover vacuums, I thought to take a big chance and took two more vacuums to him for repairs. The Eureka and the Hoover were older vacuums but still worked and were okay for a small apartment rental that I rented out in the winter months. It turned out that the Eureka just needed a new belt and a ?tune up? ? again about $44 and it only took two days. Vincent gets a grade of ?A? for that one ? that turned out okay. However a part had to be ordered special plus an ?adapter? for the Hoover because ?they don?t make the parts anymore? to fit. But Vincent assured me it could be fixed and the parts were available. This vacuum took a very long time to fix ? a full 2 months. During this time period I spoke to Vincent several times on separate phone calls concerning the back orders for the Hoover and also when picking up the two vacuums. Also, during this time I was having issues with the current tenant who broke the vacuum. This particular tenant, a winter visitor, was unusually difficult, creating several different troublesome landlord / tenant issues; not just the breaking of the Hoover vacuum. I do not know Vincent or his wife in any way other than that he runs the vacuum shop and he does not know me either. However my difficult tenant visited with Vincent and became friends during the time that he had the Hoover. Ordinarily this would not be a problem except that when I spoke with him about the vacuums he started to act rude criticizing me in a judgmental way and started offering his uninvited opinion regarding my tenant and also landlord / tenant issues. I thought it was strange and was confused why he would say things like that because I never brought up the subject and never said anything about my tenant situation; but he offered up the subject out of the blue on several occasions. The old Hoover is fixed now and Vincent says it is fine, but it is changed now and does not perform like it used to before it was broken ? I have to buy something different for it is no longer appropriate for usage in a rental because it needs special ?handling? now. Vincent should have told me that it was too old, if he really felt that way, before charging me to fix it and then putting me through all that anguish with him butting into my business with my tenant and essentially harassing me about it. He gets a grade of ?F? for the Hoover, for not giving me accurate advice about the old vacuum before charging me, and then offering unwanted advice about the handling of my tenant! When I picked up the Hoover and paid him for the repairs, Vincent again spoke out-of-line and again gave a critical opinion saying the vacuum was not good enough for a tenant. Funny that it was good enough for him to repair and good enough for him to charge me though. I lost money on this because I ended up not charging my tenant for breaking the vacuum because I was stressed out over this entire thing and did not want any more trouble - I just wanted them out of my house! As I look back I am angry about this situation with Vincent speaking out-of-line over something that had nothing to do with him, was not any of his business, was based on false information and hearsay from my tenant; and was all about something he did not know much about. I did not deserve this; I am a fair, amicable landlord and have had several tenants return year after year. This particular winter visitor was especially backbiting, deceitful and cunning. Vincent never bothered to consider that there might be another side to this ? he just made his judgement based on defamations and an untruthful made-up story. And every time I talked to him over the course of two months Vincent made it clear he disapproved of me when he did not even know me; and asked me not to charge the tenant saying he thought they were nice. I would not have bothered with this report but I told this story to a neighbor friend and, not to my surprise, she said that Vincent also acted mean and was argumentative with her too; and that she would ?never? return to him either. Upon hearing that, I feel I should warn others about this person - this vacuum repair shop owner, Vincent Becker is not customer friendly at all; in-fact hostile and does not use good judgement in his dealings with his customers and people in general. So out of three vacuum repairs ? I give one ?A? and two ?F?s. Under normal circumstances I would give him a C- or a ?D? but because this is such an unusual and bizarre situation, plus it caused me so much grief and money, I give him an overall big ?F?. All the bad things involved with this experience outweighs the one good experience.

Great appointment. Business was easy to find and he began work immediately. He has a base charge of 14.95 and it goes up from there according to work needing done. He replaced a belt and inspected the sweeper. Explained the noise was due to the motor wearing out (its an old Oreck) He said I had at least until December before the motor would most likely cease to work. He showed me the type of sweeper I needed to keep up with my house pets (2 dogs, 2 cats). Will take old sweeper and reduce price of the sweeper I choose. Not pushy at all-very honest. Very nice couple that runs this store. In a few months I will go back a purchase a new vacuum from him. Just a nice, pleasant experience all around. Highly recommend!! Absolutely will do business with him again.
Description of Work: Checked out and serviced my vacuum sweeper.
