The food Is wonderful at YRMC East. Stayed 5 days. I had a few problems, none of which was their fault. Nurses were kind, caring, and helpful.

The visit went very well. I was checked in at the front desk and directed to the ER waiting room. Once there, the wait was only a few minutes. A nurse took all my pertinent information quickly and efficiently. Shortly after that, I was directed to a bed in the ER and was seen by a nurse who cleaned and checked my wound. The doctor came in soon thereafter and ordered a culture and some tests to check the extent of the damage and the infection. They soon ran a culture and had me in x-ray. Once returned to ER, they bandaged my wound and showed me how to take care of it, and they prescribed an antibiotic. During this time the results of the x-rays were available so the extent of the injury was verified. As a follow up, two days later someone from the ER called me to check on my progress (awesome!). They also informed me that the culture showed a different kind of infection than my antibiotic could handle, so they called in a new prescription for the appropriate antibiotic and my infection was markedly better within two to three days. I was very, VERY impressed by everyone I dealt with... I hope I don't need an ER again, but, if I do, I hope this is where I receive treatment!

I have been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease since 2007 and, on the
morning of 9/16/2013, I awoke hemorrhaging from my GI tract. I am
from Boulder, Colorado and am new to the area. My doctors in Boulder
told me that whenever I bled more than a few tablespoons I should go
to the Emergency Room, which I did. The admitting staff made me a
yellow priority when I arrived so I waited about 20 minutes to be
moved to an ER gurney. I had several printed pages of information
about my medications, current medical condition and past medical
providers which I attempted to give to the admitting staff, nursing
staff and doctor but they refused to take the information and,
instead, asked me to answer a few questions. They did, near the end
of my visit, take the page on current medications to scan into their
record.
When I arrived in the ER area I was placed on a gurney and they drew blood
to see if I needed packed cells. I saw the ER doctor about 70 minutes
after arriving and he told me they would assess the blood work, start
an IV to give me pain meds and perform a CAT scan. I questioned the
need for the CAT scan, since I know that I have Crohn's disease and
had hemorrhaged before and knew that was what the problem was, but
they insisted that they perform the scan to rule out another cause. I
waited about an hour for the pain meds and then another couple hours
for the CAT scan. I tried to sleep but a staff member seemed to be
charting and forcefully removed each chart and then slammed it back
into its place so I slept sporadically. A nurse or tech poked their
head into the cubical occasionally to ask if I was okay. I started
asking for a doctor an hour after the CAT scan. A nurse told me that
the ER contracts with one physician group and that the group feels
they only need one doctor on duty for several hours a day and that he
was busy with other patients. I asked the nurse if they were going to
admit me or give me any meds to stop the bleeding and she said the
doctor would decide that.
I had been given nothing to stop the bleeding and had Prednisone at
home that, if taken in large enough doses, would stop the bleeding,
so I got up and got dressed so I could at least go home and treat
myself. I did not take my regular meds to the ER because other the
staff in other Emergency Rooms had refused to let me take them and
sent the meds home with a friend. After the ER staff noticed that I
was preparing to leave, the doctor stopped by to ask me what other
ERs had done to treat me and I told him they gave me IV pain
meds, prednisone and the other meds I take regularly and admitted me
to intensive care to stop the bleeding, track my red blood cell
count, stabilize me and transfuse me if needed. He left to call a GI
doctor and returned with a prescription for a Prednisone pack that
was stronger than what I had at home. The ER doctor told me my red
cell count was low normal and that I , therefore, did not need a
transfusion of packed cells. The ER doctor also game me a referral to
the GI doctor.
I asked the ER doctor if I should not had come to the ER. I explained
to him what my GI doctor in Boulder had told me and the ER doctor
said that I should always come in if I am bleeding like that.
When I left the ER I was tired, in pain and a little dizzy so I drove to
my rural home in Coyote Springs, took all the meds I'd missed in the
ER, doubled my dose of Prednisone and went to bed for 12 hours. The
next day I drove into Prescott Valley and filled the prescription the
GI doctor had recommend. The Prednisone pack did stop the bleeding in
a couple days.
If any of the staff had taken the printed information I tried to give
them they would have known that I have short term memory loss; sound
and light sensitivity; neck pain with pain down my arms and severe
headaches from a motor vehicle accident in 2004. They seemed not to
notice the dark glasses and earplugs I wore. Had they noticed, I
would like to think they would have dimmed the bright lights and
closed the cubical door to decrease my pain. I would also like
to think that, had the ER doctor called the GI doctor earlier, they
might have treated me instead of having me wait hours, without my
usual medications, to find out that they expected me to treat myself.
I cannot say that I will never go back to the Yavapai Regional Medical
Center – West. If I have another emergency I will go there and
INSIST that they read the information I give them and treat me or
airlift me to a hospital in Phoenix. I am also writing up a sheet of
information on how to treat someone with Crohn's disease in the event
of a GI bleed.
Subsequent to leaving the ER, I discovered that the doctor did not put Crohn's
disease on my paperwork, but rather, Colitis and Gastrointestinal
bleed. I do not know why but can speculate that those diagnostic
related groups pay more.
I am not accustomed to such inadequate medical care and do not want to
make this review sound even worse by comparison. I have, however,
been to Emergency Rooms, with the same condition, in Colorado and
Maine and of the three, YRMC is the least professional, attentive and
knowledgable.
I did not tell the staff at YRMC that I am an Occupational Therapist
and hospital administrator who has run several large rehabilitation
departments and units. I would like to think that my knowledge base
would not matter.

They are the only hospital in the area. They were courteous. They are phenomenal and really good. The ICU is terrible. The people are like as if they are sitting at a theatre. It was pathetic. The office environment is terrible. They do not follow up. They do not talk to each other. I would use them again in the future as I do not have a choice.

The hospital is excellent. The quality and professionalism is excellent. We used the cardiology wing. I have not been to the other wings. The hospital rooms are easily available. We have not been admitted there. They took care of us. Most of the staff was excellent and I am talking about the part of the hospital which is specialized. There was over communication. We have a 6 inch book of paper work of what was happening and there was everything in those catalogs literally. The doctor we had could easily be the best doctor in the state and he could easily qualify for the best in the country but I am not in a position to say that. We were not literally billed but our insurance was billed.

They have two locations one in Prescott and one in Prescott Valley. I've gone to both of them for tests. They've all been very nice and helpful. I go to them all the time for certain tests. You have to wait of course but I don't have any bad experiences. I can't say anything bad about them. The people there are friendly and nice. I can't say enough. I just have the test and leave. I don't think I ever have to wait very long. When they set up a time they are very good about being on time. I've gone to the emergency room a few times because I couldn't get in to the doctor and the doctors were very nice in the emergency room. Their communication is good. If I have any questions they answer them. I would say billing is good. I have insurance and it all goes to my insurance.
