Samuel's Handyman

I hired Sam to do some projects at my home. The main one installing kitchen cabinets that had been delivered to my home. Others included installing baseboards and trimming windows, changing out a shower door and hanging bypass barn doors and a single. Also staining the trim and staining and hanging 3 prehung doors and putting in all new outlets and switches. He was hired 4/29/23 and and was paid half of the agreed upon amount with the remainder to be paid on completion. He started 5/16/23 and was paid half that date. The 3 would show up around 11:00 am and to be fair we had agreed he would pick up orders of material I placed on his way to the house. I mentioned to him that the store opened at a 6:00 am. He told me he gets up at 3:00 am and “Day Trades until he comes to the job site. With no prior knowledge he took 2 days off for a recreational activity. He told me he was 21 and the other 2 were 20. He also stated he lied to this website to get listed because he didn’t possess the required experience. I think it is important to note that as memorial weekend was approaching I told him I need this work done as I had company coming. I had to cancel and had to spend the long weekend in my bedroom as no other room was habitable. On 531/23 he came to me asking for $600.00 claiming his banks app would not work and he had no money in his business account and mumbled about paying on a court proceeding. Regretfully I agreed. I honestly thought he would give me the funds back when he could access the account but that never happened. During the days they actually working a GFI had been replaced and after they left I discovered my refrigerator had no power. My food spoiled. I found out the young man that put installed all my outlets had never done it before!! A ceiling light was broke and a brand new piece of furniture they had assembled had been damaged on the door. I found this myself as none would volunteer the information. I have a lovely 36” copper sink. When I pointed out to Sam the sink was not centered in the cabinet he took a rubber mallet and struck it several times leaving a dent the size of the mallet head. At the end of that work day was the last time they were on site. Missing over a week and finally telling me he would be here Monday - Wednesday. At the end of the day in Wednesday and having been a no show I felt I had been more than patient and fired him. My upper cabinets are being held up with finish nails, the hood range was hung but not vented, base boards are missing and door trim is not complete. In the list of items I wanted done included tile backsplash. Before I fired him he sent me a text that he would have to charge me $25.00 a square foot for the tile. He also told me several times he would have a housekeeper come to clean up as they didn’t cover my furniture or fireplace before sanding and left a huge mess until after I complained. He wrote measurements down on my newly painted walls and nearly everywhere there is trim the paint has been marred. I have taken pictures and have text messages and bank records to substantiate everything. I love my small community and I adore our residents. I only hope they read this before hiring person.
