The quote which was provided includes showroom cost and a profit margin which insurance agreed to cover. Please note we had a received a lower quote from another contractor - so Stratton is certainly more expensive because of the showroom overhead.
The work got scheduled 3 weeks after we had accepted their quote - Stratton cited time needed to get the laminate inhouse as the reason. On the first day of the scheduled start - no one showed up for a few hours prompting a call to their office.
The tile guy showed up with a tile which was different from what we had originally selected. We had to go the showroom to show them our selection. The tile guy was unable to find what we had selected in the warehouse. It is surprising that the down-selected tile was not sourced to be ready in time for the installation. In fact, they said it had been discontinued. How could they quote us and not check this?
We were given other options from the tiles which were available at that time - we declined and decided to search in nearby stores and were able to find it. We asked Stratton to source it from this store, but Stratton said we would have to pay extra - we found this to be highly unreasonable, but since we did not want to hold up the project, we agreed to pay 50% of the extra amount Stratton was requesting. This delayed the tiling by few days.
The laminate and tile installers were very professional. It was discovered that the required amount of connection pieces had not been ordered and the laminate installers would have to come back a week later when the pieces were available - another big miss in project planning.
A few weeks after the installation we noticed the laminate creaking and requested an inspection.
The Stratton representative expressed surprise and said they would schedule an appointment with the distributor because they were unsure why that was happening. Post inspection, they concluded that the floor was installed correctly, but maybe because of the floor leveling issues, we were noticing creaking. We had no such issues with the old laminate, so it is hard for us to accept this reasoning. They have asked us to monitor it for 6 months and get back if we continue to see issues.
Overall, it was not a pleasant experience and required a lot of baby-sitting on our part - more competence is
expected of an operation the size of Stratton.
