When Bret was finished, I had a brand new floor! the kitchen, foyer, and hallway look marvelous. The whole job turned out beautifully and he saved me many thousands of dollars that a completely new floor installation would have cost. His work has made the whole house look new and brighter. I had Bret add some new oak molding to areas of the floor were it met existing carpeting, where no molding existed before. He shopped all over town to find just the right material. His work was neat and he was very mindful to minimize any inconvenience to me while he was doing the work over a 3-4 day period. He is a very interesting person, college-educated, is very articulate and easy to talk with, polite, informative, and extremely knowledgeable and experienced in all phases of his chosen craft. At the end of each day, he cleaned up the entire work area. My understanding is that he was raised in a family of flooring refinishers and he has brothers doing the same line of work in other parts of the country. I would not hesitate in the least to recommend Mr. Fry to anyone else contemplating this type of work and I plan on contracting his services again in a few months to install new flooring for me in the bedrooms. His final price came in exactly at his original estimate. I increased my final payment to him over what was actually due, in recognition of the outstanding job he did for me.
Description of Work: I purchased a 9 year old "forclosure home" that will become my permanent home in Arizona. Although the house was in generally good condition, the solid wood oak flooring in the kitchen, hallway, and foyer was in very poor shape and had suffered harsh use. It was badly worn in some areas, not firmly glued to the underlying concrete sub-flooring in others, cracked in other areas, and generally nicked and marred all over. Bret Fry, the independent owner of Restoration Hardwood Floors, came in and looked at the floor, saw what needed to be done, gave me a fair estimate for the cost of restoration, expained exactly how he would fix the flooring, and told me when he could begin the work. Throughout the course of the work, Bret kept me updated on his progress at every step. Bret carefully moved the kitchen appliances to another area of the house so they would not be damaged and he used many drop clothes and plastic sheeting to tape off and protect other furniture and cabinets in the surroundiing area. He started by filling all the cracks and resealed all the joins, and re-epoxied the loose flooring to the sub-floor. He then sanded the entire floor with a machine where he could, and by hand in hard-to-reach areas. He sanded off the old deteriorated dark finish and sanded out all the water stains, gouges, and damaged areas. He then applied a new lighter finish to the floor and sealed it with 3 seperate coats of satin finish polyeurethane.
