The 1st application was without incident. On the 2nd application, it appeared that the Technician did not spray the entire yard. When the Technician returned to re-spray the yard to kill the weeds, he actually killed brand new sod. The owner tried to convince us that our lawn had a disease but agreed to pay most of the cost for a pallet of sod (the cost of the treatment) that we purchased to replace the dead areas in the lawn, but did not reimburse for the time to lay the sod or the frustration of having to start over again with an unattractive lawn.
Despite our displeasure with the fact that the Technician had killed the lawn, we decided to give Tru Green one more chance. It was time for a Lime treatment which we agreed to have done. When we arrived home, there was plenty of evidence that the lime treatment had been done because it was allover the place, including in one of the Sago Palm tree, the hedges, and the side walk.
It rained within a few days of the lime treatment and we had hoped the rain would wash the white stuff off the tree and hedges, but it didn't. Both my husband and I attempted to remove it with the water hose, but no luck.
When I informed the owner that it appeared the lime treatment had damaged the palm tree and hedges, he stated he would come and take a look. Once he looked at the plants, he called me to say the plants were diseased and that he could treat them, which my husband allowed him to do.
After the last treatment, which was just a few days ago, we have decided to no longer use TRU Green because I believe they actually did more harm than good. Our lawn will still need some repairs in the spring and we still have plenty of weeds.
1 week after yet another free application, TruGreen wanted to come out again - this time with charging for services. When I informed them, that we just had received an application the week prior, I was informed that we still needed this application after only 1 week, because the free application was only a "weak solution" that would be rather ineffective. So, I am finally DONE! No more TruGreen.
However, it was rather challenging to get rid of this company. For several months they kept on calling me.......
UPDATE 4/3/2013
Well, I have to give TruGreen credit for being persistent in trying to win their customers back. After my last update, the general manager left a voice mail for us and sent an e-mail. The technician left his business card and a note at our door. Having been busy and rather frustrated with the service so far, I had ignored these attempts to win us back as customers. Until today. The technician, a very nice individual, came to our door, offered another free application and promised me that he would be the only one I had to deal with. He assured me that he personally would take care of any issues that may come up. As the weed in our yard started to grow again, and I really do not have the time to shop around - and I just like the technician because he is very professional and friendly - I decided to give TruGreen a third chance. Let's see how it goes. I will update this review when our next weed control application has been done in about six weeks. Let's keep our fingers crossed that we will not regret giving TruGreen yet another chance.....
UPDATE 3/6/2013
Yesterday we received the automated call announcing weed control service for today (2nd free treatment to win us back as a customer) - the notification process has worked so far, BUT....
Luckily I was home this time when the technician came to the house. I informed him that the gate to the back yard was unlocked- and he responded that his records showed to only treat the front! I could not believe it. We cancelled TruGreen last year, because they insisted that we only signed up for treatment of the front lawn - which was incorrect (see initial review). I cannot believe that after all this trouble and the assurance that the problem had been fixed, we are encountering the exact same issue again.
I have to give credit to the technician who was willing to treat our backyard (where the weed is growing more like it got fertilized rather than treated with weed control when TruGreen came out about 6 weeks ago) despite the fact that his records showed only treatment of the front lawn. The technical agreed with my assessment that no weed control had been applied to the back yard when TruGreen came out last time. He offered a free follow up service in three weeks. The technician was great!
My final verdict is: The technicians are very professional and nice. But TruGreen has a deeper issues. For some reason this company cannot get their act together and straighten out their record management mess. TruGreen, although the local branch really tried to win us back as customers, is just not worth the hassle. Having weeds taking over your lawn is better than having to deal with the same issues over and over again....and if you do not like weeds, I recommend contacting another lawn service company. Thant's what I will be doing, because I have had enough of TruMess.
Personally, I feel for the TruGreen employees who suffer from the disorganization this company displays!
UPDATE 01/25/2013
So far, I am very happy and impressed with the service provided after TruGreen had learned about my initial review. The general manager of the local Montgomery branch came out today with two of his service managers. He called me before they came over, they were on time and very professional and friendly. They displayed a genuine desire to win me back not only as a customer, but as a satisfied customer. So, if the two (free) weed control application go without any service problems (we receive a call in advance so we can unlock the gate and put the kid's toys away, and the front and back gets treated) we are back in business!
To TruGree Corporate Office: Thank you for paying attention to reviews on Angie's List. This displays genuine concern for your customers. Your general manager at the Montgomery store is excellent! His professionalism and efforts to "make it right" convinced me to give your company a second chance, despite the fact that initially I had not intentions to do so.
UPDATE 01/24/2013
I was surprised to receive a call from the general manager of the local TruGreen office this morning. He told me that the corporate office had notified him of the issues I had reported in my Angie's list review. He was very professional, friendly, and concerned about the issues we had experienced. I was impressed that he fully acknowledged the problems and offered solutions. He offered me 2 free weed control applications and an "action-plan" to address the issues. He will personally come out tomorrow to discuss details.
I am impressed, that TruGreen actually cares and takes action. Depending on the outcome tomorrow and possible future services, I may revise my overall rating. Maybe we just had bad luck......we shall see. As of now I am willing to give TruGreen a second chance.....
Original review:
The lawn technicians were always very nice and the weed and bugs were under control - and that ends the positive feedback.
We had a really hard time with customer service (friendly but incompetent). For example, we asked to be notified before the technician comes out to treat our lawn, because the gate to our back yard is locked. Customer service had agreed to give us a courtesy call a couple of days in advance before a technician was to come out to the house. We were notified only once during the entire year we had TrueGreen service! If we were not at home, the back yard did not get treated. When complaining and informing customer service about the fact that the back yard regularly did not get treated, all the sudden we were told that we had only signed up for treatment of the front lawn. This was incorrect, as the square footage we were quoted a price for and paid for equaled the square footage of the lawn in the front AND back , and we specifically had pointed out that we needed the back yard bug free because this is where our toddler plays. We had received service for the back yard (as signed up and paid for) before when we were at home to open the gate. All this did not face the customer service representative who actually suggested that we needed to pay for the "additional" areas in the back that were treated every now and then. No explaining and reasoning faced her. All she offered was that we could sign up for additional services to get the back yard treated, too. (We already had signed up and paid for service of the ENTIRE lawn!). We finally gave up and just cancelled the service altogether.
