I received a referral to this clinic. I needed help with excess hair growth and menopausal acne. When I got into my appointment, they had a razor and a needle ready. The doctor suggested she get a biopsy of a pimple. The doctor and the nurse then left after putting a band aide on my face. I sat there, in shock, blood flowing down my face. I asked for help for the other reasons I came there, when the doctor came back. She prescribed a 180.00 cream I couldn’t afford and useless antibiotics, that did nothing. A week later a woman called me and said I had face cancer and needed MOHs surgery. I started crying and she said, don’t cry, it’s no big deal. A week later, I went in to get surgery. They refused to prescribe anything to relax my nerves. They said in MOHs surgery, they take just a little bit and check it under a microscope. They keep doing this until all the cancer is gone. I met the doctor and he immediately started stabbing my face, under my right eye with a needle. It was painful and traumatic. He did this eight times. Thank goodness my husband was there. While he was doing this, he talked to the nurses about his winter home in Hawaii. He hardly said a word to me. He cut a 2x2 inch chunk from my face, then sent me into the waiting room. He called me back after 10minutes and said they got it all. He proceeded to sew my face up. He told me I could make home made opioids by using Motrin and Advil together. My husband and I sat their in shock. He refused to prescribe pain meds and they did not give me any bandages to change for later. They told me to go buy my own. They said I might need to come back because the stitches might not fully dissolve. It was an incredibly traumatic experience. I now have a knot of scar tissue, that is not fully healed and hurts. This operation happened in Oct 2017, it is now Mar 2018. With dreadful fear, I am going to another clinic to see if they can fix the scar tissue. I refuse to ever go back to this clinic.
Response from Alaska Center For Dermatology
"Mrs. [Member Name Removed], We are very aware that undergoing a Mohs surgical procedure can be a very stressful event. We are constantly examining and honing these techniques to reduce patient anxiety while maximizing the cancer cure rates and minimizing the cosmetic effects of such removals. While I follow the most up-to-date "best practices" when it comes to these surgeries and their post-operative care periods, every patient's needs are different. I will take your narrative of your experience to heart and sincerely apologize that we did not live up to your expectations. I do not for a moment believe that your care is complete with just the removal of the cancer, so please realize that we remain available to you. Sincerely, Peter Ehrnstrom, MD"

Staff was helpful and professional. Provider was punctual. Answered questions that I had. Was prescribed minocycline antibiotic pills and topical cream for face. Asked her about Accutane but said she would like to try something else first. Will have a follow up appointment in September. The only negative comment I have about them is that they are always booked for 3-4 mos. out.

They were excellent. I just had several questions that had been blown off by other people. When I went there, they had a physician's assistant do this whole thing. Then the doctor stepped in and explained it all to me. They were in and out. They gave me all my options in an hour. The price was reasonable. I got right in within a week. My husband also just loved it. Their scheduling, counter staff, PA, the doctor and everybody was just really on top of their game. It was pleasant not to wait in a waiting room. When we come in they get me back there and they go through it. We are in and out in an hour. My husband had the same exact experience; he had other work done that day. We would definitely use them again in the future.

There are a lot of reviews that are negative regarding the availability and the long waiting list for new patients. That was a concern, but decided to confirm the appointment and wait. I was very, very happy with this office. Very professional, very good communication, great treatment.

My wound never bled and it healed amazingly fast; it was invisible within a couple months!  No one believes I have a 1.5" diagonal scar from mid-brow to one inner-eye.  Dr. E is a brilliant sewer who might have had a more lucrative career as a cosmetic surgeon but apparently prefers to work with cancer patients (he also volunteers with the Assets Program for the uninsured).  I wouldn't let anybody else remove my tumors.  (I also have an invisible 4" scar on my back from a basal cell he removed 8 years ago in my pre-Medicare days -- a classic Moh's with a couple cuts and biopsies.)
I highly recommend Dr. E, as do others I know with far more serious facial and other surgeries.  I would have appreciated a heads-up about the slightly deviated septum that ensued from pulling tissue on one side of my nose-bridge/inner-eye area together to suture.  Think Dr. E is very busy but he's also very forthcoming about any questions one has.

This is the second time I have seen Dr. Moreland. I was concerned about a growth that had changed color. He looked at it and said that it wasn't a problem. I would recomend them to anyone who has a dermatology problem.

The CMA took me to a room and did an intake. Then shortly after Dr. Oreilly came in and did full review of my record and asked what my concerns were. We went over the options and she answered any questions I had.
My only complaint would be with billing. They do bill insurance, however, don't work well with insurance that might need a little extra attention.
I would still go back and have seen Dr. Oreilly now for over a decade.

They are very good. I was seen quickly and out fast. They are very busy (all Dermatology Centers are), but if you need to see someone sooner, they try to get you an appointment as fast as they can.

I had previously been to a few dermatologists in Anchorage who prescribed me creams and antibiotics for my acne. I had no results with those doctors, so I decided to go to the Alaska Center for Dermatology. Their office was beautiful, they got me in immediately, and the doctors were professional. I was prescribed Accutane, and the results were amazing!

Dr Rob Moreland was the third dermatologist I went to see for this big red area on my face in a year. So far nothing had worked. He treated me with special ointment and it cleared up in 2 days. I'm a happy camper!!
