Auto Transmission Service
Went well. The cost was considerably less than other shops in town, and the new transmission has been working for several years without any problems. Excellent work at a great price! And, they were very responsive and service oriented throughout the process.

In the end very well, I was very impressed by their professionalism. A few months after the job was complete some issues arouse, I contacted them about it and they were very honest about something they missed and fixed the problem with no charge. It has been now three months since the final fix and the transmission runs perfectly. Their honesty and professionalism stood out and I recommend them without reservations.

Russ and Randy were great to work with. Their team did a very good job servicing the transmission on my truck. Quality work and good value. I waited in the shop while the work was being done and got to chat with Randy and Russ as well as observe other customers coming in. One high school senior came by with transmission "problems", Randy did an inspection and provided a lot of really good guidance on the problem, much of it not related to the transmission itself. Clearly these guys pride themselves on a very high standard of customer service. Highly recommended.

The guy is clearly very knowledgeable and advised me to save my money rather than trying to hustle a big job. When a business can do that instead of doing everything possible to get you in the shop, it creates trust. Trust creates recommendations and referrals that keep a business going strong. Would definitely take a vehicle in here. You can tell they have an interest in doing the job right and getting vehicles safely back on the road.

Russ gave me some great (and free) advice on how to handle it. I do not know if I will invest in a new transmission for this vehicle but I was very impressed by the professionalism

Initially, I took my car to the local Toyota dealership when my 1998 Camry was running a little rough intermittently. They informed me the transmission was the cause, and suggested I could start with a transmission flush. If that didn't fix the problem, they said the next step was to replace the transmission for $3,400. I had them flush the transmission ($252, including the evaluation), but later that day while I was driving my car, the same problem occurred, so the flush did not fix the issue.
Rather than return to the dealership to replace the transmission for $3,400, I searched Angie's List for another repair shop that specialized in transmissions. I wanted someone who could possibly repair rather than replace the entire transmission, since the dealership doesn't do transmission repairs. Swinehart's had good reviews for their work and for having integrity, so I took my car there for an assessment. After doing a test drive, Mr. Swinehart determined the problem was not my transmission at all, but instead was an engine misfire. Since they don't do engine work there, he gave me a recommendation for another shop nearby (Ron's Auto and RV), who repaired the engine misfire for $451.
I was very impressed with Swinehart's level of expertise in quickly diagnosing my car's problem, and with their integrity. There was no charge for the evaluation work they did on my car. If I ever need transmission work in the future, I will definitely take my car to Swinehart's.

The noise actually disappeared when my pickup was delivered to the shop. Despite heroic efforts, the noise didn't come back. Even though they spent a lot of time with the truck, the only charge was what they had to pay for the towing. I really appreciated the extra effort, and especially the integrity!

Russ came highly recommended. When my '63 Impala 409 had transmission issues (wouldn't engage in reverse easily and slipped gears from 2nd to 1st at 40 MPH), I took it to Swinehart's based on a local recommendation. Rather than try to sell me a complete transmission overhaul, he drove my car and recommended a lube oil and filter with topping off the transmission fluid. Problem fixed! He didn't charge me anything for the test drive or recommendation. I will definitely take ALL my classic cars to Russ for any transmission needs.

When I first brought my truck into Swinehart's, Russ test drove it with me and the transmission would not show any problems. I like that he didn't suggest a rebuilt transmission right away since the symptoms I described could have been caused by something else. He told be that replacing the tranny wouldn't guarantee a solution. I decided to drive it a while longer until the symptom re-appeared. When it did, I brought it back and he diagnosed it. He confirmed I needed a rebuilt tranny. I got the truck back when he said he'd have it done.
The cost was less than other estimates I received.
I waited this long to write an evaluation so I was sure the work lasted. All is fine.

I brought my car to my general service shop on a Friday as it was very sluggish. The shop determined it was my transmission and suggested Swinehart's. I towed the vehicle to them on Friday. Monday they evaluated the problem and told me I needed a re-built transmission. I wasn't surprised (194,000 miles on the vehicle) as it had been slipping for quite a while. They repaired it in a few days and things have run very well ever since.
