Block Constr. was hired to put in a swimming pool under Cascade Pools. I think the pool construction is satisfactory (too soon to tell). But I signed a contract for both a pool and an addition to our home January 4, 2017 (pool) and addition March, 2017. We have hired numerous contractors in the past 40 years and we have never met a more unprofessional man as Jim Block. He didn't return calls or te...

Well from the start it seemed good, fast and smooth, then they got water in the pool and got paid. This was the start of the end! From then on the work was sloppy, i had to constantly call and ask for the work to be finished or done right. And i was the one that had to clean up after them, fill in holes, fix the yard after they destroyed it! My fence still to this day was never fixed properly and ...

I thought they were very quick at the beginning, but towards the end, they had a few issues. All the workers were fantastic. My husband had a business with the owner/salesman, but he proved himself back. It just took him a little while like a month to prove himself to us. I probably would not recommend him to anybody.

Contract signed Oct 2011 Work did not start for another month after calling wanting to know when they plan on start. Contractor subcontracted the work out. First two who worked on the project seemed to know what they were doing except they worked part time on the project. Second crew did not have a clue as to how to build. After informing contractor that I was completely dissatisfied he hired anot...

The window installation occurred promptly. A two man crew arrived to install the windows. One appeared to know what he was doing, the other I had to follow around to make sure things were caulked properly. I have a second story condo and I have noticed minor damage to the large double window likely due to when it was slid up a ladder by one individual so that it could be installed. In hindsight I ...

Description of Work
I selected this company because Leigh (office worker for Block Construction) called several times to offer estimates. She was responsive, and called to the day of when I asked her to call back. Sean came out and I liked him immediately. He gave a fair estimate for the work I wanted done, and he seemed trustworthy. Unfortunately, at the end of the call, he advised that he would be leaving the company in a few weeks but that Mr. Block would take good care of me. I signed the contract and wrote a check for 33% of the job in mid March. By mid April, I had heard nothing from the company, so I became concerned. I called the office and left several messages and received no response. So, I called and left a generic message that said, "Hi, I am calling about a project that I want to have done." I received a call back in less than two hours. When Leigh realized that I already had a signed contract, she said she would call back. She returned the call a day later and said that they were ordering the trim and it would be mid May before it came in. (2 months to order williamsburg blue trim?) Anyway, I was fine with a date of mid May. At this time, I complained to Leigh about the lack of communication and that I expected communication as part of the contract. On Friday May 4th, at 3:00 PM, Leigh left a voice mail on my answering machine saying that she wanted to get the job started on Saturday and to please return the call. I didn't get home until after business hours, so I never called. On Saturday I received a call saying that the crew was on their way and was it okay for them to start the job. I said no, since I had left my dogs out and had never talked to anyone about a start date for the project. The crew stopped by and parked a trailer with supplies in my driveway, (blocking in my car) . Monday, Mark showed up at 9:30, and said, "I don't even know what I am supposed to do here. Do you have your contract?" He then started measuring the shutters which should have been on the trailer. He said he needed to deliver a door, and would be "Right back." Two hours later, I left to take care of some business. I called the office and Leigh said that Mark had a family emergency, but he was back on the job. When I returned home, NOTHING had been done. I called back and spoke with Leigh and complained about the fact that nothing had been done. She said Mark's 94 year old grandma had died and he couldn't return (even though she told me earlier he was back). She said the crew would be out on Tuesday to do the job. I was concerned about the lack of communication and refused to allow work to progress unless I spoke with Mr Block. Leigh said this would be impossible because it was after 5:00 PM and he was probably already in bed because he got up at 4:00 AM. Long story a little shorter, against my better judgement I agreed for work to be performed while I was not home. The work was done, and as far as we can tell, it was done properly. Cleanup was another story. A crowbar was left on the steps (tripping hazard) cigarette butts were thrown all over my yard, driveway, and flower beds, nails were in the driveway, and a plastic water bottle was left in the grass. A caulking gun was left on the side of the house. While communication was AWFUL, and Mr. Block could not be bothered to talk to me when there was a problem, he had no problem providing the personal touch when Leigh called and insisted that he could come by and pick up the check. When I complained directly to Mr. Block about the awful communication, He stated that it was because of Sean, and that was why he had fired him. (Interesting conflict since Sean told me in March that he would be leaving.) As for the clean up, he said it was raining heavily (it was) and his crew had to leave quickly. I guess returning to complete cleanup would have been out of the question. I feel like I dodged a bullet here. There is NO way I would ever use this company again. If the owner is too busy to talk to customers when there is a problem, maybe he needs less business. I think my deposit was float money and it was used for 2 months prior to the work being completed.

I received a cold call and a person showed up the next day to discuss my project. He measured, did some math, gave me an estimate and said that work could probably begin "week after next." I paid a downpayment of $2000. Problem: They did not schedule the work and repeated phone calls to the company were not fruitful. Either I got more run-around or more lies about when the work would be done, or n...

Sometime in March or April (I think) of 2011, I received a phone call from Block Construction offering estimates for repairs, etc. on my home. I did need the shingles (above) replaced in the upcoming months, so I agreed to meet with their representative. Although he was a little late, he did call before the appointment time to let me know. We discussed the job, as well as the fact that it would be...

Description of Work
I have a three story house with a gambrel roof (like a barn roof turned sideways). The shape of the gambrel is something like a wide-based triangle with a cross-bar where it would be on an upper case letter A, and the top triangle of the A shortened by about a third. The bottom length is 42 feet and the height at the center approximately 18 feet. It begins approximately 25 feet off the ground. The sides of the gambrel are faced with cedar shingles with the wooden trim wrapped in aluminum. The shingles on one side of the gambrel needed to be replaced so I was off-and-on looking for a contractor. The job required removing the existing shingles and felt (tar) paper, removing a projecting lower ledge and patching the underlayment, replacing any damaged 3/4" lumber underlayment, removing a vent and repairing the hole, and covering everything with 1/8" luan and Tyvek before applying the shingles. As expected of most construction contractors, all debris was to be removed from the site at the completion of the job. Generously calculated, the work area covered four hundred (400) square feet.
