Restoration Builders of Virginia is a fully licensed Class-A contractor that has been in the business of breathing life into old and dilapidated buildings for 30 years. We have become specialists in the field of restoration because of our conscientious attention to detail and history. We believe that the history of older structures must be preserved and respected as an integral element in the fabric of our heritage. As such, our carpenters work closely with designers, conservators and preservationists to accommodate modern desires and utility without sacrificing the architectural elements that make old buildings unique. Our mission is to preserve the integrity of the building and the work of the carpenters that came before us while improving the fit and function of the structure as it is used today.
At RBVa, we boast that "no one can do a better job." Our experience includes the precise installation and/or restoration of molding, panels, wainscot, built-in bookcases, cabinetry, stair railings, windows and doors. We design and produce wood elements from pictures or fragments when the original pieces are missing as a part of our dedication to authenticity. Many of our carpenters have a history in art which informs their work and their ability to hone their craft.
Authentic Restoration Services
RBVa has fully restored 30 homes and has been involved in the renovation of 100's more. We provide restoration services beginning in the design phase, throughout the construction phase and ending with completing the punch list. Although all restorations are unique, they do generally include the following phases:
Design and Planning:
In the majority of restorations, the homeowner is encouraged to work with an architect to develop the restoration design. RBVa reviews the design and provides practical input relative to restoring the historical elements of the building. In other words, we help determine where modernization makes sense, and which elements would be important to restore in order to maintain the original design.
RBVa develops a budget for the project, obtains permits, schedules sub-contractors and sets a project completion date.
We coordinate every aspect of the construction phase and maintain good communication with the homeowner and architect throughout the process.
At RBVa we pride ourselves on providing a true turnkey service to our clients. Our carpenters complete the final details on the project and leave the project area free of debris from the construction. Just turn the key and step into your newly restored home.
Fine Carpentry Services
Our definition of Fine Carpentry is the carefully executed cutting and fitting of woodwork.
At RBVa, we boast that "no one can do a better job" and we mean it. Our experience includes, but is not limited to:
• The precise installation and/or restoration of molding, panels, wainscot, built-in bookcases, cabinetry, stair railings
• Window restoration and/or replacement
• Door restoration, replacement, and hanging
• Porch restoration, including built in gutters, even when the original porch is missing
• Flooring and deck repairs
• Major structural repairs, including jacking and leveling a home
• Design/ build elements from archive photographs
• Weatherizing a house, including storm windows that conform with Historic Tax Credit guidelines and installing functional weatherstripping in antique doors and windows
Sensitive Addition & Renovation Services
The same construction management services are applied to additions and renovation. We work with the homeowner to develop a design and budget.
When we begin an addition or renovation project we create a barrier between the construction area and the rest of the building. We take special care to insure that the client's work or living space is respected throughout the process.
We consider additions sensitive because we understand the importance of blending a cohesive look between the existing building and the new area. Respect for the original design and attention to detail are what you will find in an RBVa addition.
Our additions and renovations pay close attention to function, blending the existing conditions with the new, and delivering the project fully detailed and professionally cleaned.
