Came out 3 times (once on a Sunday) to try and locate exact place of leak. Could determine it was the hot water line in slab but not exact location. Capped the line to give us hot water in part of the house and identified the type of fix needed. Another plumbing company performed the work.

Robert Douglass did a fantastic job. He immediately grasped the complexity of our system and the large scope the investigation required. He methodically isolated and evaluated individual sections of our 800 foot pipe system as well as each house and building using various techniques and instruments. After many hours of focused effort Robert found the leak buried about 2 feet in the ground in a large sloped area between the two houses. It was a hairline crack in an elbow fitting that supplied water to the uphill house. It wasn't until he hand dug down over a foot that we began to see the water bubbling out of the fitting and deeper was the pipe. We had the fitting repaired the next day and our system is now restored to us. Amazing that in such a large complex system he found the leak. Impressive and exactly what we needed. We were able to avoid very costly and destructive digging up of segments of our pipe line. Robert found exactly were the leak was located - we were able to hand dig right to the leak.

After recently experiencing a large water bill more than double our typical bill we knew we had a leak somewhere in the plumbing. We did all of the standard DIY checks and realized that this was going to be something we couldn't see for ourselves and needed to have a professional come look at. We tried our home warranty company but after fighting with them for 2 weeks and their contractors claiming they weren't equipped for leak detection we called our own plumber.
This plumber came out and rechecked all of the DIY items we had already completed and then claimed that it would cost $800 for them to install a shutoff valve to the house to determine if the leak was in the house or in the yard. After that it would cost even more to identify the exact location and repair the damage. This was when my wife and I called American Leak Detection.
The phone call to American Leak Detection was pleasant and the representative was very polite and up front about all the details. We agreed upon a time within 48 hours of the call and everything was scheduled and ready to go. Our technician Bill gave me a call 15 minutes before arrival and was well within the window agreed upon. He was very professional and polite when he arrived and explained everything he was doing. Within 30 minutes he had found the leak, he even dug up the area of the yard with the leak to show us the water and explained what he used to detect and verify the leak.
The whole process was smooth, and painless and I will happily turn to American Leak Detection again if I have any issues going forward.

d all haAfter talking to several pool repair people, who all recommended them, we finally called American Leak Detection. The lady who makes the appointments was very polite and easy to talk to. They came out pr omptly, found two leaks, one in the pump, one in the skimmer. They told my husband how to fix the one in the pump and left us an estimate for replacing the skimmer, which we knew was cracked. Today we are having them do the work. The estimate was easily accessed by the lady making the appointment. The man doing the replacement was actually a little early. He had all the equipment necessary to drain the pool below the skimmer line and chip away the concrete. Upon getting down to the skimmer, it was discovered that Pool Werks (see my ongoing saga about that repair fiasco) had chosen to line the skimmer with the old rubble they had removed doing the work instead of using sand and hauling out the debris. The man doing the repair was very professional having done this kind of work at the same company for 34 years, had all his own supplies and equipment, and cleaned up after himself. He gave advice on repainting and sealing the patio as it all had to be redone after barely three years. The skimmer he installed works much better than the last one ever did. We are very pleased and would definitely hire him again.

I called these guys because I had a water leak somewhere in my floor.  It was too slow to register as a supply leak (the water meter didn't indicate a leak), and after plugging the sewer line and filling the drain line to the top of the slab, it didn't look like a drain-side leak either.
The provider arrived on time, I walked him around the house, showing him where we had been observing the leak. He got out his equipment (essentially a "stethoscope" for your house's plumbing), and began listening for the leak at various places in the house.  He then got out his "pinger" to locate where the pipes lay in the foundation.  He then again used his "stethoscope" to listen around the area where we were seeing water emerge from the cracks.
After a few minutes of listening and probing different places, he drew an "X" and a circle around it indicating where the leak sound was loudest.
These guys only do leak detection, so today I had plumbers come out to repair the leak. Sure enough, the leak was right where American Leak Detection said it would be.
You may think the price is high for just doing detection.  However, knowing where to look minimized a lot of potential damage from "destructive guesswork".  I would definitely use these guys again!

Robert and his son Kaleb arrived promptly at my home and checked the meter to confirm the extent of water activity/loss. The water supply to the house was shut off at the water softener, confirming that the leak was somewhere between the meter on the street and the water line at the softener in the garage. All four hose bibbs were checked with the sonar sound equipment for noise level, and the bibb on the right corner of the home produced the loudest sound/water flow activity. Robert used a metal probe to go down into the soil about 1.5' to 2' which showed water on the tip when pulled up, hence an underground leak. They tested the surrounding area and placed a flag at the point of the leak, where the PVC pipe likely meets with the copper line entering the home. This will allow me to hire a laborer to dig up the area to uncover the pipe in the plantings and rocky soil below rather than paying plumber rates for digging. A plumber should be able to make the repair then in less than an hour to resolve the leak. Although leak detection is expensive, I did avoid costly repairs for holes that a plumber wanted to make in my home as part of the trial and error approach to leak detection that most plumbers use. The plumber assumed the water line entered my home on the corner closest to the meter and this was not the case. Robert's suggestion to have a laborer dig up the area will also save me some money.
I highly recommend American Leak Detection. It is a family business, they were professional and I got exactly what I needed to resolve the leak and get estimates in advance, minimizing my repair costs.

Bruce showed up on time and found the source of the leak within the 1.5 hour time limit. The leak was more than 3' underground near my back basement where the area had been backfilled by the contractor. I never would have found the leak without his expertise. This is the second time I've had to use them, and both times their work was within the given estimate and professional. I strongly recommend American Leak Detection.

Appointment set up by phone with estimate. Leak check team (2 people) arrived on time (slightly early actually) and began work. Quickly and accurately identified leak. Completed entire pool check anyway. Made some small recommendations on potential improvements, suggestions on options to fix main leak, and described the situation in great detail. Very friendly, helpful, and personable staff. I made the suggested repair and pool no longer leaks. I will call them again if I ever have a pool or other plumbing leak problem.

They were booked up forever and their prices are outrageous. I would never use them. They'd cost you $1200 to come out here and then the first hour, they would charge you for another $125 an hour so it's ridiculous. I thought that the company is direct and I guess they were polite and nice but it was just business-like. When they called back, I said, "We've already gotten it fixed." I told them they were absolutely ridiculous on their price. They did get back with me within a month and I'm glad they called because they were just getting ready to call me and tell me they were coming. They weren't the worst but they weren't the best. I'll never call them again.
Response from AMERICAN LEAK DETECTION - AUSTIN & SAN ANTONIO

"American Leak Detection of Austin Texas received their initial request for service from [member name removed] on January 20th, 2014. Based on the age and location of the home, the abundant square footage, the 200+ feet distance from the city infrastructure (water & sewer) and the seven bathrooms in the home, a flat fee of $1250 was quoted to assess the entire plumbing system. Again, due to the size of the job, a schedule date of February 10th, 2014 was set in order to ensure multiple technician availability for the lengthy task of inspecting [member name removed] property. Our $125/hour rate begins only after the completion of the full system audit, if necessary further inspection work is required. American Leak Detection takes pride in providing a valuable and professional service. Per standard procedure, the office called to confirm the appointment for February 10th, at which time [member name removed] cancelled the appointment. No work was performed, no charges were invoiced."

American Leak Detection was able to come out the next morning and thoroughly checked for a leak; turns out no slab leak (great news); only an external faucet not working properly due to the cold weather. They were extremely nice and only charged us a service call rather than a full leak detection charge. We were extremely pleased.
