The installation was a bit harried. For example, they didn't tell me about a contractor coming for insulation, and I was out of town.  I only heard about this after the crew showed up at my house and they phoned me.
I signed up for a service contract with SRE. They completely missed one of the semi-annual appointments. When they finally called me to re-schedule, I learned that they had moved to San Antonio.  Service is whenever the guy comes to Austin.  Just had the yearly service of a relatively new AC and the system is down.  Now, I have to call someone else for ER service.
Be cautious because this company no longer has an Austin office.

They offered the lowest price for similar equipment as compared to the other quotes that I got. They were fine and did a pretty good job of keeping everything clean. They got here pretty much on time. It ended up being an okay job but some of the work could take a long time to get done. I would use their services again.

Overall I was very satisfied. We had received quotes in the summer of 2009 from several HVAC companies (including SRE), and while we had preferred SRE, we could not afford the work at that time. We were fortunate to qualify for the SECO rebate in late April 2010, however, so decided to proceed with the work. We had 60 days from April 18 to get the work done and I expected when I contacted SRE that we would be lucky to eke in under the wire on time. However, Larry Summers very quickly scheduled another visit to our home. He updated the estimate since it was over a year old and let us know about a Bryant rebate program that will give us $1000 per unit ($2000 total). He also let us know that we could get 2-speed units that help control humidity and keep overall bills lower. We decided to do that, and within a week, Larry had a crew scheduled for installation. The crew was very professional. They performed the installation of the heat pumps, air handlers and thermostats on the first day, then returned the next day for the weatherization work. However, early on the second day, the person working in the attic discovered that our ducts were deteriorating. He suggested we replace them, work that was not originally quoted. The additional cost was $360, $348 of which will be rebated by Austin Energy. Very reasonable. The additional work required the crew to come back yet another day, but they finished that work quickly. After two weeks with the new equipment, I discovered a leak from one of the air handlers. Within 2 days, one of the original crew members came over and replaced the entire pan of the unit, which so far has fixed the leak. They said it was a manufacturer's defect. There was no charge for this service call. The crew left the house pretty clean overall, with the exception of some insulation that blew down from the attics into the air handlers' closets. However, when Larry came back with the Austin Energy inspector a couple days ago, he said they should have cleaned that up and he then took care of it himself for us. Larry also did an excellent job handling the paperwork for the various rebates and making sure I had what I needed for the federal tax credit next year. Also, we were not charged for the work until after it had passed the Austin Energy inspection, which I appreciated. I was very pleased with the entire experience and will do business with Standard Renewable Energy again if the occasion arises. We *love* the low-speed option on the A/C because it keeps the house a more steady temperature, instead of the system blasting super cold air all the time. Really great. Cost breakdown: $17150 - original quote for 2 heat pumps, 2 air handlers, and all insulation, etc. + $360 - additional duct work -------- $17510 - $2000 in Bryant rebate -$1400 from SECO rebate - $2736.76 in Austin Energy rebates - $1500 Federal tax credit --------- $9873.24 - a sweet deal at almost 44% off!

Unfortunately I was not home when the audit was performed. My wife said they were professional and knowledgeable. The rep who "explained" the audit to me was mostly a salesperson. She failed to contact us to present the report until we contacted her and asked her why it was taking so long. She was nice and professional but didn't give me a sense I could rely on her. I scheduled an inspection and tune-up for my air conditioning units with Standard Renewable Energy. They called just before they were supposed to appear and said they couldn't make it because a couple of guys didn't show up. They also said they would call and schedule another time to tune the ac units. I haven't heard from them since.
