Member Comments: (I initially placed this on the wrong page I think since it only shows 4 other reviews. My Bad. Here it is again on the correct page) I would like to make this short but that would not accurately portray the week. First, the previous Friday, called for a quote and Joe was there within the same day. Decided to move forward with the work and Shawn and Ryan began on Monday, 3/31. On Monday they show up on time, maybe a little early. The work site is not accessible by a trencher so they came prepared to dig by hand. The job was finished four days later. The initial problem was that the lateral from the house had disconnected from my exterior trap. Lots of unpleasant digging as nasty water seeped from the trench. Then it began to rain. More unpleasant digging. Eventually they made it to the house foundation and there found that the 6" pipe had fallen away from the 4" pipe inside the house and would require opening the floor inside. The evening that was found it rained again, all night, so that when they returned the next morning, the site, which was ready to be piped, had collapsed and required another two hours of digging to clear the trench and begin the piping. What made such an impression on me was the work ethic of Shawn and Ryan. They arrived a bit early, put in a full days work through the day, and don't think they even took a full hour for lunch. I was home during the work and saw that they would stop and assess what they were doing periodically to ensure the best job. Even when the trench collapsed (morning of day four) their conversation and interaction remained positive and professional not only with me but with each other. The initial bid was 4,500 and the work to extend the repair through the footer into the house was another 2,000. The extra two thousand seemed high for the short extension of the work, and I don't know if this was more than other companies would have charged, but I'm sure that no other company would have done a better job at whatever cost. Reason? When the inspector from the Department of Health came by on the last day, he was giving his results to Shawn and Ryan and didn't know that I was on the deck above them listening. His comments went something like this:"You guys did an excellent job, even in places where it's often tempting to take a shortcut, everything is perfect. Angles, connections, drop. Work like this makes my job easy" Then he saw me and took the time to repeat everything, saying that I would never have a problem with this installation. Here's the thing, it takes mental discipline to maintain a commitment to quality and doing it right when the job has long since been over for you and you just want to get done and onto something else. These guys did that and delivered a quality job, with exemplary attitude. So yes, I'm definitely happy with the work and would (and already have) referred others to Matt Mertz plumbing.

They have gone the distance - did great work at very fair prices. I have found my go-to plumber. Plumbing issue - I call Matt Mertz now. Done. I trust now after several experiences that they won't oversell or overcharge me as people often fear from some unscrupulous plumbers. I will continue to call them and recommend them.
Description of Work: in the past year I have had Matt Metz Plumbing do a number of jobs for me. From replacing the water line to my home from teh curb to the meter inside - to replacing a large J trap at my office building - to minor drain and plumbing fixes at my home.

This was an excellent experience. The plumber that came out to assist (Jim, I believe his name was) arrived precisely when I was told he would, and with a demeanor that instantly had me realizing that I made a good choice in contacting Matt Mertz. He quickly identified the water heater leak and fixed it immediately. A perfect job that has had no further issues. My other issue was a severely cracked cast-iron stack that needed replacing. I had tried to do this myself, but to no avail. He gave us an estimate that was extremely reasonable, and came back out another date to do the work. He and another employee (whose name eludes me) had that entire stack out, replaced, and ready within two hours, and the issue is completely fixed as well. Needless to say, any further issues I have, I will DEFINITELY call Matt Mertz again. Thank you, guys!

Matt has a great company. We use them for all of our plumbing needs. Over the past year they have replaced all of the waste lines in our house, which was a massive project, made repairs and completed installs. All of the folks at Matt's company are terrific. They are honest, pleasant and highly competent professionals. We would not use anyone else in town for anything related to our plumbing.

Plumber Jack, assisted by Joe and Lisa, made two visits to my apartment. The first visit was to a**** two non-functioning power assisted toilets. The second was to install the new toilets that he had ordered. Jack and his assistants were knowledgeable, courteous and friendly. The appointments made were kept punctually with the plumbers calling ahead to confirm. The plumbers were fastidious about cleanliness, wearing booties at all times in my apartment, and cleaning up thoroughly during and after the job. I had used this plumbing service before to install two water heaters, so my expectations for a professional job were high based on my previous experience. My expectations were met once again in all regards.

Matt put together a tool in order to suction out the gravel, clearing the line. He and his employees wear shoe covers, and clean up after themselves. They arrived when scheduled, sent pictures and films of their work, and issues they ran into, as I am an out of state owner. My tenants were super impressed. Matt and his team, were the 4th set of plumber to come to the home. Matt RE-did some of the work that the other plumber had, either not done completely, or had not done right. Good, good man and company.
Description of Work: They did the main drain line in the home, ran a camera down sewer line to find that it was full of large gravel, 28 gallons of gravel.

After 3 attempts to fix a slow drain on my own, I was forced to admit that it was time to call in the professionals. Unfortunately, this meant calling in on "emergency" hours as our basement was starting to flood. Their technician (Hunter) showed up in under an hour, and was done in half an hour. He was also able to identify the source of the recurring problem, which I appreciated. All-in-all a good end to a bad situation.

When I called them we thought we only had a clogged drain. Even though they were very busy they got someone out to us the next day. When they came out they found that it was not a clogged drain, but a broken pipe. They started on March 12th and finished by March 14th. They dug up the site, replaced the pipe, and remedied the problem.

We already have the new plastic pipe and we were told the "main" was a problem as well. The "main" is in the street! But they can run a new liner and the start cost would be $2,000. But could go up to $20,000. They could start putting the liner in right away! I decided when I saw the roots in the terra cotta we don't have to wait for our regular plumber. These guys were called because it was a Sunday. They won't be called again!!!
Description of Work: Clog in basement. Told me that after they ran the camera that our terra cotta was full of roots! That would be a problem, IF we had terra cotta next to the house.

Great. This is the second time we used MMP and based on the first experience I didn't hesitate to call this time and will call them next time too. Called for service around 9am and they showed up at Noon. I may have gotten lucky on that as they said there was a cancellation so they would be there between 12-4 but would call first to confirm the time. Plumber called me at 11:30 and was in my driveway at noon with tools in hand. After a quick evaluation and some attempts with the snake/auger, they had to remove the toilet, which is what I had expected. The toilet is a corner mount model which is not very friendly to plumbers and hard to get replacement parts for, which they recognized and I feel were extra attentive with its care. They put covers on their shoes, laid down tarps, pet my dog until he accepted them in the house, and got to it. Obstruction was located but near impossible to get to based on strange design of corner mount toilet, but they persevered and got it out - a spring loaded toilet paper holder. After replacing the mounting bolts and wax ring, thoroughly checking for leaks and cleaning up all traces of their visit, the bill came to $158 before the Angie's list coupon, which he was so kind to remind me about and waited for me to print one for him to take. In and out in about 1 hour.

Response from Matt Mertz Plumbing Trenchless Sewer Repair Expert
The customer had roots in her terra-cotta line, which she saw on a live camera inspection. We priced her a quote for 2,000.00 for repairing the pipe which is very reasonable. We discussed if the outside pipe has roots it could be repaired with a liner. Liners do not cost 20,000.00; obviously the customer doesn't have her facts straight. She must be upset that Sunday emergency service is expensive. We repair sewers every day and we know how to replace them reasonably. If you look at our reviews under drains and sewers, you can see that we know how to do this properly and for a reasonable price. While we understand it is frustrating to hear your sewer needs repaired we don't feel that we should get an F grading for providing an honest assessment of the problem and providing a quote for the repairs.

Matt came by as scheduled and evaluated the job at hand. We were in need of a brand new water service line to the property. He was punctual and professional. I liked what he had to say. He knew the process very well and didn't feel that the job was too big or too small for him. His price was very fair and I would have used him but I ended up getting the job done by a friend of the family that was able to come in cheaper. I have to say, I would definitely call them in the future for other jobs as needed.

The morning of the scheduled appointment, the office contacted us to tell us they do not service our brand of water heater. Despite the fact that we made the appointment days in advance and scheduled our work hours around the service, there was no service performed. When I called the office to ask why this was determined on the day we made the appointment, I was told they'd just hired new office staff and the new employees were not well informed enough to know they should not have scheduled our service. The office manager (Lisa) was very concerned and polite and offered coupons for service, but I can't enter into a business relationship with a company who allows appointments to be made and customers to reschedule their days and then cancels on the day of scheduled service. I understand that the new employees didn't know, but the appointments made by the new employees should be reviewed at the end of each day. We are looking for a company to provide service on a long-term basis, as we have opted to not use our previous provider for exactly this cancelation problem. Very disappointed, as I normally rely on the reviews on Angie's List.
Description of Work: We contacted Matt Mertz Plumbing several days ago and scheduled service for a water heater that is not functioning. They were to have looked at our water heater and determined how to fix the problem. We made a service appointment days in advance and my husband and I both rearranged our work schedules to accommodate the four hour window.
