The electrician arrived a few minutes after the two window had expired. He was great in explaining to me what the problem was and how it tied back to what I had experienced a few hours before. He replaced the panel and got the power restored. The work was great and he went above and beyond. Thomas Edison Electric charges a service fee to come out to the house and then a separate fee to diagnose the issue. Unlike every other contractor that I have used, none of the fees were applied to the cost of the work. Additionally, the total price seemed very high for the work that was done and a quick google search confirmed that it was much higher than the average price range. I needed the work done as soon as possible so I didn't have much of a choice. Despite the cost, they did great work.

Eduard called to tell us his arrival time. He arrived at the time he said he would. He was very professional, he introduced himself upon arrival. He was courteous and efficient, got right to the problem, explaining everything to us. He took the time to explain the pricing to us, also. He went above and beyond our expectations, completing his job in a timely matter. He did not let outside interruptions stop or slow his work down. He was very thorough and respectful of our home. We would use Thomas Edison Electric again if the need arises.

Once I knew what the problem was and what was needed (replacing a 200-amp electrical panel), and having a sinking feeling that $9200 was probably very overpriced, even for a Saturday night, I started to look online for estimates of what that repair should cost, and I saw several estimates that confirmed that we were grossly over-charged, and it should cost a couple of thousand dollars, max. I asked the electrician and his "friend," a non-Edison employee who came after the fact to help him, to stop work. I asked to speak to the supervisor. The electrician put me in touch with the owner, who immediately became defensive. I explained that I feared for the safety of my family and home with a potential electrical fire, panicked, authorized the repair, but after seeing what exactly the problem was, I found that $9200 was an outrageous amount for a job that other providers online estimated should be $2000-3000. The owner continued with his defensive, rude back-talk. I told him that I could not allow being charged $9200 for this job. He finally agreed to charge us $6500, and refunded the difference to my credit card - they charged my card for $9200 before they even started work. The owner told me that I could submit a claim to my homeowners insurance company to be reimbursed. The electrician and his "friend" completed the job by 9:00. It took them 3 hours, not the 5-6 hours quoted when I was given the estimate. My homeowners insurance company estimated that replacing a 200-amp electrical panel should cost $2786. An electrician who has worked in other homes in my neighborhood told me that he would charge $1500 to replace the panel, plus $300 for working on a weekend. (I also saw an ad on Angie's List two weeks later for doing the same repair for $1500.) After receiving this information from my homeowners insurance company and an independent local electrician, I called the owner and expressed my displeasure at being taken advantage of, and that I believed that they took advantage of a family who feared for their safety on a weekend when they wouldn't have an opportunity to get other estimates or find other service providers. I was met with more rude and unprofessional back-talk from the owner. This is an unethical company that takes advantage of homeowners in difficult situations.

Ultrafast, Responsive, White Glove Emergency Electricians for Philly Thomas Edison Electric are the people to use for immediate emergency work and top notch craftsmanship. Their IT systems, call centers, and call back times might remind you of Amazon.com. We lost power Saturday night because of an electrical fire in our breaker box (thank god the fire was just in the box). Vasly came within 1 hour and worked OVERNIGHT from 10 PM to 8 AM. He got our power back by replacing our service panel with quality Siemens parts. He was a gentleman that cleaned up and stuck around to explain the completed work. They'd get all 5's if they can be much more competitive on price (their model is for 365 24/7 service). They did work with us on the project by not charging for the breakers. They also are standing by us for the insurance claim with photos and specific details on the damage.

I was very pleased with the entire service experience from Thomas Edison Electric. The electrician arrived on schedule, was kind and polite. He immediately diagnosed the problem and determined that out main electrical system was over 50 years old and in need of replacement. They cleaned up after themselves and kept my home spotless. I would highly recommend this company to anyone. I got the impression from the very beginning on my initial call that they truly care.

When the electrician from Thomas Edision Electric saw how the electric lines were ran by the contractor who was working on my house he suggested that I make him rerun the lines the correct way.  He said it would be to dangerous to hook them up.  When he showed me a sketch of how they should be ran, I asked him to do the job so that it would be done the right way.  I saw that this is an honest company because they recommended that I make the other contractor correct their work so that I wouldn't be paying twice for the same job.  I got the other contractor to reimburse me the fee that he charged me when he was shown how by the electrician the dangerous way he did the job.  I feel safer knowing that the electric lines were ran the correct way.

Had flickering lights in basement.  Called Thomas Edison.  They told me the estimate would be $495 but this would be taken off the final bill.  Decided to go ahead as I needed this to be done.  Finished the estimate in about 10 minutes and told me it would cost 8,000-9,000 to fix.  I wrote them a check for the estimate and told them I'd let them know.  Called another electrician who said everything on the bill was outrageously and dishonestly quoted.  They wanted to replace the outside connection which PECO had just replaced two months ago.  Parts they charged $500 cost about .49 cents.  New electrician called them to complain but took awhile to get someone to talk to.  They agreed to refund part of my estimate charges but never received anything from them. After a month called them again about my refund but could get no one to talk to about it.  The new electrician did the job same day - replacing my box in the basement (which was all that was needed) for $1,000.00  These guys are CROOKS!.  Just saw an ABC news report with Jim Donovan about this company in which older people were charged outrageous prices and Jim couldn't even find the company to see what was going on.  This made me decide to join Angie's List to make this complain although it's from a couple years ago.  Have never forgot about this horrible experience and wanted to share. NEVER EVER CALL THESE PEOPLE!

My clothes dryer had no power going to the outlet. I needed to use it ASAP so I called Edison Electric. On the plus side, they showed up quickly and the electrician was professional and found the problem quickly. Fixed in 10 minutes. However, the costs is what would stop me from using them again. I understand calling an electrician will be pricy, but $440 for a 15 minute service call is, IMHO, more than...pricey. Everything else was fine - showed up when promised, did the repair efficiently, and the tech was knowledgeable and courteous. Price is my only complaint. For that reason alone, I will not use them again. They have all the criteria to be an excellent choice but they are...super expensive.

WHY YOU SHOULD NEVER HIRE THIS COMPANY:
Price: you can compare to many other companies on Angie's List and see we got ripped off on the electrical panel. It was an emergency situation and we were under family stress, or we would have done better due diligence and never gone with this company.
Quality: The technician only partially labeled the circuit breakers in the panel, leaving many blank, and by his admission had moved circuits around so we have to do a whole house experiment to find out what is what. Also: why did we need a new panel? Technician discovered seal outside where the main wire comes into the house was cracked and water seepage over time ruined the old panel, which was 30+ yrs old anyway. Did the electrician fix the seal? No. We found that out two weeks AFTER the repair, because we immediately had to leave for family emergency the day after the repair. During our absence there were at least three major thunderstorms. So, plenty of opportunity for seepage into our brand new electrical panel. Thanks a bunch. We had to call them to come out again and do the repair.
Responsiveness: They answer their phone immediately and take all your info. But you are actually talking to some call center. So then you have to wait for a call back from someone local. Stay by your phone! And then be prepared to give ALL your info again. And then wait for another call of when your and quot;emergencyand quot; technician is nearby sometime in a two-hour window that they have given you that is hours after you have called. We called around 9 pm. Our 2 hr window was 12-2 am. Seriously. Stay by your phone! And stay awake! Oh, your phone was fully charged before all this happened, right? so you are okay with waiting five hours for the call that says your technician is on the way.
Punctuality: Our technician showed up at 2:30 a.m.
Professionalism: I have no idea how long it normally takes to replace an electrical panel. I am sure it is a very complicated job. It took our technician waaaaaaayyyyyyy long. I know for sure it was more than 8 hours, possibly 10. The technician told us prior to the call for our job he thought he was going to get a full night's sleep and took a sleeping aid, so he had to stop on the way for coffee, that's why he was late. I am guessing he needed the money and couldn't afford to pass up a job. But I don't think he should have revealed things like that to us. It makes me concerned about the quality of the work. Also, he forgot to fix the source of the problem (see Quality above).
When this company sent technicians back to fix the source problem that was neglected the first time, they pointed out frayed and dangling wires above coming from the street to our house. These wires were just past some sort of node (I think it is called a tri-clamp wedge). They told us everything between the node and our house was our responsibility, everything beyond it was PECO's. THIS WAS AN OUTRIGHT LIE. They said we would have to fix these wires because they were beyond the node, also problems with the wire on the house, bla bla, normally they would charge $4700 but since they already ripped us off once, they will give us a second time sucker's price of $3400. We called another electrician for a bid and he was an HONEST person who told us this is PECO's responsibility and gave us the number to call to report it and we did and PECO fixed it the next day. Thomas Edison Electric proposed to steal $3400 from us for work that was not our responsibility, but that of the public utility. DO NOT EVER HIRE THIS COMPANY EVER FOR ANY REASON.

UPDATE: Thomas Edison offered a refund of $1000 for the electrical panel work but with the requirement that their Angie's List rating be changed to all A's.

Main breaker switch broke as husband was doing electrical work .. of course this was Sunday, late afternoon.
They were able to send an electrician, Ed, by 8pm. Dispatch called 2 or 3 times to update us (who was coming, when, then narrowed the time), plus Ed also called and gave us a time.
Ed worked on this for over 4 hours, we had power again :-) Came back a few days later to finish the transfer switch and to label all of the new breakers.
Seemed very knowledgeable, helpful and professional.
Would hire again.

The service we needed was performed on the Sunday before Labor day. The ads proclaim and quot;No extra charge for Sunday or holidaysand quot; and none was shown on the invoice. However, the replacement of our electric panel and remounting the outside meter in a new box was $2500 higher than the insurance company would pay. Insurance allowed $3300, they charged $5888. Other contractors who've looked at the work told us the insurance allowance was generous, and comparable services advertised on Angie's list indicate this to be correct. The job can be spec'd by using a trade manual for time and materials. They will not give you a breakdown for time and materials, which I repeatedly requested. The first indication of a questionable transaction is that they required payment in full before performing the repair. Unfortunately the lady who and quot;approvedand quot; the repairs (not the home owner) was scared by the description from the technician who told her and quot;it's a fire hazard and if someone had touched the panel, they could have been blown across the roomand quot;. This is not a company that you would want to do business with, unless paying a premium price is acceptable.

I supplied the timer, no material costs, all wires were in place

it took him less than one hour to complete the job .I believe the cost to be excessive and unjustified. The cost included a $45 visit fee which was not deducted nor was the cost of the timer

They were VERY punctual -- I was given a 2 hour window, between 10 am and 12 noon, and they pulled in the driveway at 10 sharp! They were also professional, thorough, and took time to answer all questions. They found the problem, and replaced what was necessary to fix it. My ONLY concern was the cost. Aside from the and quot;Dispatch Feeand quot; and the and quot;Troubleshootingand quot; cost, they charged me 8 and a half times the cost of a needed breaker. That makes me suspect of the estimate they left for additional recommended work -- I have not called them back for that work.
Since submitting this review, they contacted me and discussed their charges. They offered a partial refund of the charge in question. I am now satisfied that their charge is more in line with my expectations and have changed my rating in and quot;Priceand quot; to an A. I appreciate that they worked with me on this.

Provider showed up and located the problem. Dug a ditch of twenty feet, three feet which was under sidewalk and not dug out. Provider found old pipe laying partially under the sidewalk with wire in it from garage. Provider pulled new wire through using old wire to fish it through pipe that went partially under the sidewalk. Was billed $125.00 service call, $343.00 for trouble shooting and fixing minor connections, $427.00 to dig under the sidewalk which wasn't done. $600.00 for trenching 20 feet which included about three feet of sidewalk not dug under. Then was charged $1027 for less then 40 feet of wire. When question the price of the wire I was told that is there charge for the quality of service they do. I called two supply companies and could have gotten 50 feet of that wire for under $40.00

Update:
Since I posted my review on here, I received a voice mail from Thomas Edison Electric. They called in reference to the work that was done and they had money for me, to give them a call for the details. They offered me $500.00 but I had to change all the ratings to and quot;Aand quot; and give a good review. I have change the Professionalism to an and quot;Fand quot; because I feel they are trying to buy their rating. I have turned it down and will not accept such offers.
