It went extremely well. The men who did the siding work were highly skilled and very pleasant to work with. The subcontractors who did the gutters and siding were also well skilled and efficient. There were a couple of very small issues we informed the project manager about and he was very responsive. Excellent customer service all the way!
Description of Work: Replaced all exterior siding and gutters then repainted the entire exterior.

I've hired A Cut Above for several jobs over the past few years. Yes, they are expensive, but I would still hire them again for my next big job that requires long-term support. Here is why: - Sales process: Josh Robertson is a completely down-to-earth, problem-solving guy who knows the industry. He has literally spent hours with me to help me brainstorm and plan my projects, and to do what he can to work with me on price. The time he has spent on brainstorming alone is above and beyond. I felt like I was talking to a good friend who cared about my house. I trust him. - Delivery: I have had two project managers oversee my different projects. Rob Colson and Peter Bretz have been nothing but professional and dedicated. On my projects, they have kept me informed of the plan, adjustments needed, things that didn't go as planned, and how they were going to fix them. Yes, there were problems, especially with my siding job. I have had a few subcontractors through them who I was unhappy with. But, A Cut Above was 100% responsive to my feedback. I have never had to make a stink about the problems that occurred, because these PMs took the initiative to put a mitigation plan in place before I had a chance to get upset. I can honestly say that I feel that Peter and Rob have gone above and beyond to ensure I was happy with the quality of work they provided. They also were cool enough to take photos of unrelated problems on my house that there is no way I would have been able to spot on my own, while they were up on the ladders, enabling me to take advantage of chimney warranties and other types of repairs that other providers were responsible for. They have followed up on my jobs even while they were on vacation. Above and beyond. - Customer Service: On some of the earlier projects, small things failed over time (gutter leaks, etc) and they have always immediately resolved the problems without giving me a hard time. You can save money by hiring independents on smaller jobs that don't need the long-term support. But I feel that the extra money is totally worth it on roof, siding, painting, and other things that you may need followup on years later - A Cut Above will much more likely still be in operation, as opposed to the independent who might have retired to Arizona within a few years. I only wish the price was a bit less. They really are not cheap, but I don't hesitate to recommend them and I would definitely hire them again if I had to do any of it over again.

We recently had a real estate sale fail because the home inspector told the buyers the house had bad LP siding. We had heard that A Cut Above had a very good reputation and valued their expertise. We wanted an inspection by them to determine if, in fact, the LP siding was bad. And, if so, perhaps give us a bid on residing the house. Steve was very abrupt and said they didn't get involved with real estate disputes. We told him that the sale fell through and it wasn't a "real estate" matter now. We just wanted their opinion on our siding. He said all LP siding is bad and, " that since they were the most expensive place in town" we wouldn't want to pay their price to reside a house we won't be living in. He gave us the name of another contractor. I left messages for the other contractor and never heard back. While searching the web for him, his name linked back to A Cut Above. Your firm was recommended to us by our realtor and Angie's List ratings. I will be only to happy to inform Century 21 of our experience.
Description of Work: Steve was very sort, bordering on rude, when we spoke.

I had met with the owner at the showroom explaining the bad experiences that I had had with 3 other window reps and that I did not want to go through any of that again. He said he completely understood and scheduled a rep to meet us at our home that week. The rep came, measured windows and then proceeded to do ABSOLUTELY everything we had told the owner we did not like: hard sell, trash other vendors, told us they didn't make a garden window. I asked him why they had one in their showroom then, and he said it was an inferior product (then why was it there) and tried to up sell me to a 10k bay window. had told he when he was going over things that I had 2 more vendors I was looking at, but he kept insisting that I should buy his and sign a contract right then for his good price. I told him that his price was WAY higher than any other and he said it was because they did a superior job and their product was better so why would I even think about looking at anyone else? He did not give me an estimate on paper (I had to take a picture of his laptop screen with my camera to get it). When he realized that I was not going to sign that day, he offered a lower quality window for 25k. We ended up going with Jeld-Wen through Ultimate Choice, LLC for 9k. Now, that was an excellent company!

Had a bid appointment. Went fine until the actual bid. He was good at giving us detailed information about the product and procedures for replacing our LP siding and possible painting of the new siding. He was a bit too pushy for my taste but my husband didn't mind. Then he asked if he could perch himself and his computer at the kitchen table and he would give us a bid on the spot. Wow, I was kind of impressed with that. Everyone else needed 5-7 days. I thought maybe he had an amazing program that could do the bid in 20-30 minutes. Guess what? It took him almost 2 hours! And then he wanted to go over it with us. We had left about 2-1/2 hours leeway time between our other commitment and this appointment, so needless to say we were late for our other plans. I did not appreciate the lack of communication for how long this bid would take. I felt disrespected in my own home. The price he gave was within the range so we might have considered his company to do the work, but that bid issue made me check him off the list.

We are sorry that it took longer to prepare the bid then what this member was expecting. We prepared two different bid options and our bids are very detailed and time consuming to prepare. We find that most of our customers prefer to have us quote their project on our computer why we are at their home.

The provider was very professional and very personable during the quote. However, when it came to talking price, I felt like I was talking to a nice car salesman. After originally coming in $60k, showing me his very professional looking spreadsheet, he lowered his price a couple times by manually editing the spreadsheet. He finally offered an additional percentage off if we sign with him that evening. This was too high pressure for me and we politely declined. If it had ended there, I probably would have graded them better. However, after getting quotes from other contractors and investigating A Cut Above's products, I felt I had to grade the way I did. Other quotes: I have since received quotes from multiple other contractors. All came in less than half of A Cut Above's bid. Products: A Cut Above attempted to sell me Anderson 100 windows. While talking to me, the provider described these as "composite" and explained that they were better than vinyl windows because the coefficient of thermal expansion more closely matched glass. The material they're made out of is called "Fibrex". This lead me to believe they were fiberglass or a fiberglass composite windows. After additional research, I found that "Fibrex" is a mixture of vinyl and sawdust. It is advertised to be paintable, but most reviews I've found saw to not do it. The 3rd-party reviews I've found of the Fibrex material describe it as marginally better than vinyl, but no where near as good as wood or fiberglass. However, Anderson sells these for a premium, much more expensive than fiberglass windows. I felt like I was lied to. The F grade for professionalism was for the high pressure sale and a lie of omission. The F grade price was for quoting double the price of of comparable quotes.
Description of Work: The provider visited my home to quote a complete exterior quote: Roof, gutters, siding, & windows.

We appreciate this members feedback. This was a large project that involved several different products. We are not sure how the members other bids were less than half our price unless the other contractors were quoting inferior products or quoting a different scope of work. The discounts we provided were based on the project type and the materials we were quoting. These were our advertised discounts that many of our customers qualify for.

The were fast. Racing the weather in April, tore off three layers of torched down asphalt roofing. The was extensive rot which raised the price but the pricing of the additional cost was very fair. I've paid more for less work and materials. The initial price was a surpise to me. To be fair to them I believe that was due to the type of roof I had and the amount of work to be done. It was sticker shock for me. I decided to pay the price for the reputation and quality. They were professional and did pretty well with clean up each day. Wish the workers didn't shake the house so much but I guess they were in a hurry with the rain threatening. I believe they did an excellent job and I made the correct choice. Looks great and I think it will raise the value of our home. I'll use them again if I can afford them.

We weren't terribly pleased. When we set the appointment the office staff said we needed to do only part of the house, but the sales guy only wanted to do new siding on the whole house and also kept talking about our deck. It is possible to repair siding, but they didn't want to do that. He came on very strong so we decided not to use them. He was here right on time, though.

We appreciate the feedback from this member. Unfortunately, we don’t agree that the siding is a good candidate for repairs and we are sorry they don’t agree with us. I have reviewed the pictures of the siding with our sales consultant and it is very poor shape and in our professional opinion it all needs to be replaced. Also, the deck is not properly flashed and integrated with the siding. Our policy is to only bid and do work that will properly resolve the issues we see on a home. Mark Tiffee, President

I have contacted this company twice, once through Angie's List and once through their own website's contact form. It has been roughly 2 weeks since trying to contact them and they have not responded. Update: A day after posting my initial negative review they contacted me and set me up with an appointment for a quote. Not sure if it was coincidence or not...I am upgrading their score for now! Update 2: A very nice man from Renewal by Anderson came to give me a quote for replacing my front door. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds for such a superior product. I really wish I did! The information provided was very comprehensive, and the company seems to be top-notch. I also needed a few windows replaced, although those were not high on my priority list, however; I was able to get a quote for those as well. I would be more apt to purchase windows than doors from this provider, and will keep them in mind when that is next on my improvement list. I would definitely recommend this company if you are not as concerned with pricing as I apparently am.

The salesman was very nice. Not pushy or trying to sell other services. He was very knowledgeable about Hardiplank siding. Since my house was a poster child for poor siding job, he pointed out all the issues and how they would perform the job differently. I was very satisfied with all the explanations and they went hand in hand with my research. Since they had just finished a home up the street from us, I was able to look at the job. Very well done. I did not go with them because of cost. They were easily $7k higher that other bids.

A Cut Above installed a new roof on our house. They were the only contractors who addressed a ventilation problem that we have always had in our home but had no idea how to improve. The musky smell in our attic and garage has almost gone away. The roof looks good, they were very professional in every way, and responded right away to take care of any issues we had after the job was done. We noticed that a gutter had cracked with the roof installment and they replaced the gutter.

We had water intrusion due to improper flashing and barrier underneath the siding. We were unsure where the most damage was so decided to tear off the entire house. After a very stressful lawsuit we finally were able to get it fixed. I had 3 estimates done and A Cut Above came in the highest but I just knew the quality of work would be there and they also use Anderson windows which attributed to the price, so we went with them. Bill was our go to guy and was great with the estimate through the end of the project. He was always available by phone and communicated well. I could tell he truly wanted the final product to be perfect. He is very knowledgeable and passionate in his job. Ray-project manager. Awesome! He was very responsive to my many questions. If I wanted something changed after the fact, he happily made that happen. If I had a problem or question he always seemed to be here within 10 minutes which was great. The workers on the house were respectful of my property, were punctual daily, cleaned their work area daily. They were really nice guys and very professional. Again, I asked them a lot of questions and they answered each one with patience and with a great attitude. That is really hard to find anymore. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better experience through this very stressful time. The quality of their work is outstanding. We feel so much better knowing A Cut Above fixed our house using only quality products and ensuring that water will not get through again.
Description of Work: 4000 sq foot house - they tore off and replaced all siding and brick with Hardi plank, pulled all windows and reset, new deck ledger, added windows to living room, 1 new window and sliding door, converted dining room windows to sliding door. Also added rain screen to house.

I contacted A Cut Above Exteriors for a quote on EIFS replacement. After telling the estimator that I was also going to be getting other bids, he let me know that they were not the most inexpensive option, because after all, they were ?A cut above?. He advised me that he thought I would be better off trying to sell the house without the work being done. From his body language it was clear that he did not want to go to the trouble of writing the bid, when I stated this was my perception he told me no, he would provide a bid the next week. After a week and several days passed I contacted him again, and was told that he was having trouble getting hold of one of the sub-contractors, and asked if waiting until Friday was OK, which I agreed it was. Friday came and went, and the following Tuesday I called again and was told that his boss had some concerns, so a bid would be provided with certain exclusions. At this point I am pretty disgusted and told him to just forget about it. It?s their right not to pursue a bid if they don?t want to, but they should be clear about this instead of agreeing to provide a bid and hoping you just forget about it. They have burned about 3 weeks of my time.

The work done by another company was not up to the mark and dry rot formed within six years so we called A Cut Above Exteriors. They knew exactly what they were doing; we still have to give them their final check. They just did an excellent job. They were very knowledgeable about exterior building and working with weather elements of Oregon. They had great suggestions that also incorporated the design ideas that we wanted to maintain. They were very easy to work with and we got what we paid for.

A Cut Above Exteriors did a wonderful job. We had 13 windows replaced, many of them had been leaking as we have been in the house since 1982. We had all these windows on the south side of the house and we had sidings replaced by them and they just did way more outstanding than I thought they would have done. They were clean, they were neat, they came when they were supposed to and I was able to leave them with the key, they were wonderful. I was dreading the job for 5 years and when the man came and walked through and explained how doable it was, it was no longer something that we didn't want to do. We ordered all the things before Thanksgiving and they came out after the 1st of the year and they were here the number of days that they said they would be here. Everybody was so nice and professional, they cleaned up after themselves and the yard looked fine afterwards. They had to work all around with shrubbery and they didn't break anything. We have no complaints at all about them and they were exactly on budget, they did inform us that they could run into problems and it could be more but they didn't charge us anything extra. It was a wonderful experience. We found them on Angie's List.

As noted above, the work went very well and no problems that were not easily and quickly solved. This was an excellent job as described above.
Description of Work: A Cut Above Exteriors (ACA) re-sided our house with Artisan Hardy Plank, repaired our decks and prepared the house for painting. Their work was excellent with excellent supervision, customer service and great responsiveness. Our work included replacing worn out cedar planking with Artisan Hardy Plank, adding and replacing window and door trim, added flashing, dry rot repair, insulation, new deck footings, deck flashing, new deck columns, corner trim, new under layment and furring strips, new cable hand rail system and related work. Site clean up was excellent. Their work went quickly with very responsive follow up to final job requests. The site supervisor was exceptionally effective and responsive as was the company owner and the sales rep. Workers were friendly and worked very steadily. We would recommend ACA to anyone and would use them again. Their price was high but the resulting job justified it. We expect to remain in our house for at least the next ten years and wanted a job for the long term.

I just wrote that above- please see above paragraph for details.
Description of Work: A cut above installed a sliding glass door to replace the 30+ year old original one. We were very pleased with the neatness and cleanliness of the crew- they hung tarps to keep dust and debris from blowing in to the rest of the house, and they laid down tarps to keep from tracking anything into the house as well. My only regret is we did not have them put any finish on the trim wood on the inside, as this was the part of the job left to us (so we could match wood stains we already had on other wood work) and of course, we haven't done it yet and it's 2 years down the line. The door frame has held up fine, but over the last two years the kids and the dog have tracked dirt on the interior wood and I'll have quite a job to sand it out finish it myself (It should be noted that that is my own fault for not getting that part done sooner) We would have them come work on our house again and we enjoyed working with their service and scheduling departments.

Their bid was higher than others but we expressly wanted Andersen Windows so we went ahead. Before the job began we found out that the saleman had providing incorrect information about what window sizes/formats were available. These things happen but we weren't informed, the bid documents weren't corrected, and we never could get anyone with any authority to speak with us. The crew on site were great and worked around the problems from incorrect measure up and rot found during work. However, the "project manager" that we had been promised was never onsite or available on the phone. When we did speak with someone (at the first attempt at final walkthrough) all we got was a line about how this was their best measure up man - 99.5% accuracy rate or such BS. The "caulking specialist" was a repeated no show so the job drug on longer that it should have. The windows themselves are good although we should have gone to a showroom or looked over another project to have a better understanding of the look. The salesman samples are not enough to judge the final look. But I would not ever use Cut Above to install windows or do any other work.

They did great work. Their price was medium-high, but the quality was good.
Description of Work: I have used A Cut Above Exteriors. We had him do some finishing work for us. They also installed some doors and door frames.
