I called Nail It Roofing so they could give me an estimate for either repairing a flat roof or replacing it with an entire new, pitched roof. This was going to be an expensive proposition, so I was shocked when they told me that they would not give me a free estimate for this job. He wanted to charge me for it. I declined.
Description of Work: No services were performed. They wanted to charge me for an estimate.

This must have been a communication error. We do not charge for estimates on roof replacements. We do, however, charge to a $200 minimum to come out to do a repair that will take up to two hours. If the costs will be more than $200 or two hours, the customer can refuse services and we will not charge anything for coming out. This is simply the only way to meet costs for small repair jobs.

The service was responsive to my initial call, prompt repair service. Overall it was an excellent experience
Description of Work: We had leaks around a skylight and chimney. There were several places that needed better flashing...the electrical intake to the house. I believe a pretty through inspection was made of the roof. Asphalt shingles were removed and replaced properly to protect the house. So far so good regarding the leaking. I had a very positive experience with the estimater and the work crew.

Working with Nail It! Roofing and Construction was a complete pleasure. The owner, Rodrigo Quintanilla, was exceptionally professional and courteous, and did that rare thing: he listened to us, adapted, and delivered what he said he would during the entire re-roofing and re-siding (and repair) process. His crew was fast, friendly, efficient, hardworking, and flexible. As this was an old house there were several surprises along the way, and at no time did we feel like we were burdening Mr. Quintanilla or taxing his or his crew's ability and capacity. Nail It! Roofing and Construction bid very reasonably, and any new costs incurred during the process were reasonable- in other words, there were no unpleasant surprises. He also guaranteed the workmanship for five years more than any competition who submitted bids for the job, so he stands behind his work. Mr. Quintanilla excelled at communication and clarity and returned all of our phone calls in a timely and courteous manner. We recommend Nail It! Roofing and Construction very highly to anyone who wants a high quality, reasonably priced roofing or siding job. Frankly, we feel he and his crew are among the very best among roofing companies in Portland, Oregon. His work added tremendous value and beauty to our home.
Description of Work: Nail It! Roofing and Construction tore off our 65 year old roof and re-roofed our house with high-end Energy Star roofing; repaired and reshaped the plywood underlayment; extended the roof overhangs around the entire house; replaced gutters and downspouts; installed a ridge vent, and dismantled an old chimney. In addition, the company removed and replaced all of our house's siding, doors and window trim, and replaced the siding with cedar shakes and cedar window trim. In the process, they repaired dry rot on the sill plate and in the walls. Nail It! replaced two exterior doors and installed two new custom doors. Finally, Nail It! Roofing and Construction installed a metal roof on an exterior structure and roofed another newly built outdoor structure with roofing that matched of the newly roofed house.

They were punctual, always working, and efficient. They finished removing the old roof, fixing the rot, and installing the new roof before noon and left the outside cleaner than when they arrived. They were wonderful! Great angieslist experience! Reasonable prices and we were grateful that they came up to Vancouver to help us out.
Description of Work: Rodrigo and his crew came early (around 7am) to remove our old 3-tab roof, replace approximately 4 places with rot ($160 extra - what a deal!), and install a new 50-year Malarkey Legacy AB roof with snow/ice guard and metal valleys.

My roof leaked two months after installation. Here is the story. I asked for a bid from this contractor based on a recommendation. I had the roofers remove the old roof and install plywood, paper, flashing and roofing. After completion, I had to asked the roofers to return and fix some obvious flashing errors, which is when Rodrigo, the owner, became defensive, insulting and rude. Over the phone, he denied having made any mistakes until he came out and saw them, later admitting that a few areas needed to be fixed. When I received the final invoice, it came out to $1221.00 more than the original fixed price bid which included all materials. When I brought this up to Rodrigo, he became defensive, and explained he didn't realize he would need as much materials. I explained that the bid was a fixed price including materials, but after some arguing and negotiating I agreed to pay for his actual cost. I later received a new invoice for an additional $721.00 above the contractual agreement. I explained that because of the unexpected additional cost, I would need a couple days to pay. He agreed, but a few days later he called and accused me of cheating and some angry words were exchanged. I again explained the additional cost was unexpected. I promptly mailed payment within 5 days of final completion hoping I would never have to deal with him again. Fast forward two months later.. my roof started leaking during a hard rain. I collected two ten gallon buckets in a few hours not counting the standing water on the floor. The roofers came back first thing the next morning and promptly identified the problem and performed the repair. I spoke with Rodrigo later that day and asked his policy if interior finishes had been damaged and explained the leak made me nervous. He was very rude, defensive and insulting during this conversation. Even though Rodrigo's partner and employees are very nice and a pleasure to work with I can not recommend this contractor due to my experience.

Our company's involvement came in after his own remodel project. It was not clear to us that he wanted to us to do the plywood installation since he was doing the entire 2nd floor remodel himself. The additional costs came in when we were asked to install and supply the plywood. It may have appeared to be rude by hanging up on this customer who was yelling obscenities at me (on two different occasions). I didn't think continuing in this manner was productive. However, we also try to make remedies whenever we find that we are at fault. We did have one area of poor finish and we repaired that immediately. We responded to a second call with complaint of leaks. However, upon arrival it became evident that this leak was due to his leaving a skylight open.

Rodrigo promised materials and services verbally that he declined to include on his written estimate after I specifically asked him to. I'll bet Nail It! does good work. Their Angie's List feedback is strong, and the price Rodrigo quoted was competitive. But his refusal to agree to an itemized and detailed estimate left me feeling weary. I will chose another company for my re-roof job. I don't mind spending more money if it means getting a written agreement that I can follow easily and that reflects the promises I received verbally.

Bid received was hard to follow and did not have recommended fixes for all of the leaking areas. Sent email for clarification. Reply, "It was a sloppy bid" . That was it, no attempt to clean up the bid so it was clear or to address the problems needing fixing not included in the bid (they had pointed these out during the inspection). Needless to say did not select them to do the work.

Rodrigo listened to what I had to say and then gave me a fair bid that reflected our discussion (very unlike the others I had bid on the job). We decided on the final project. His team arrived promptly and got right to work. There were some kinks (some fascia board not replaced as discussed and the gutters didn't get replaced), but they came back and fixed what needed to be fixed with a great attitude. It all worked out well since fixing the previous owner's creative roofing job added quite a bit to the end cost. The gutters are not in bad shape and the overall cost ended up what was discussed. Overall, Rodrigo and his team were great. I'd work with them again.

It went really well. I received 3 estimates and decided to go with Nail It based on price and capabilities of their construction as well as their roofing. They came to the house the day we agreed upon and worked for a week. As they ran into issues (ie the dry rot in the roof boards) they showed us pictures and repaired and replaced the roof as needed. They suggested replacing siding on the dormer where it was being extended so the siding in the area would all match. Great suggestion, looks much better. They worked really hard throughout the job. They cleaned up everything and were very professional to work with. After the job was over, we recommended them to our neighbor who also used them for their roof and gutters.
Description of Work: Nail It Roofing provided 3 services for me: 1. Tore off 2 layers of old roofing and replaced it with the new roof I chose. 2. Tore out dry rot in the roof boards and replaced them. 3. Extended the dormer, raised the skylight above the shower and re-tiled the shower.

Rodrigo came right out to the house, took a look, and sent both an email and paper bid, which was in the general window of what I thought it would be. Once I'd signed the bid with them, Rodrigo scheduled the job to go with a break in the weather. A crew of eight came and wowed me with their professionalism and hard work. My landscaping is completely in tact and all of their debris is gone. They did the whole tear-off and replace in a day. Rodrigo came out the next day to check the work. I was dreading getting a new roof, but Nail It! made it easy. A great company.
Description of Work: Nail It did a tear-off of three layers of roof, then laid plywood and applied a new architectural roof. They actually refunded the cost of the extra, unused material! I know few companies that would have been so honest.

It was a great experience from beginning to end. While giving us an estimate, Rodrigo patched a bunch of damage done by raccoons and did not even charge us for this. We did get a bunch of estimates before we selected Nail-It, based on their price, the good reviews on Angie's List and their promise to get the job done in 2 or 3 days. The job took just 3 1/2 days and they brought a big professional crew. Nail-It used a dump truck pulled right up to the house to haul away the old roof as it was being torn off. This meant that there was no giant trash container parked permanently in front of the house for days on end. At the end of each day, they cleaned off all the debris so that going in and out of the house and yard was not hazardous. The shrubbery came through entirely unscathed as well. The roof turned out beautifully, and all our neighbors have come by to comment on how nice it looks. Rodrigo and Redro run a very professional operation and I would have no hesitation in recommending them wholeheartedly.
Description of Work: We replaced our cedar shake roof with a Presidential TL roof. The roof is pretty huge since our house is built around a gigantic oak tree, and there are many sections and angles and pitches on the roof. We also replaced all the skylights in the process.

I contacted Nail It Roofing in August 2009, because our roof is sagging a bit at the very corner of one eave. Nail It came out as scheduled and said they could install fascia and the gutters needed to be nailed back in- they are nailed with the grain, so they are slipping out slowly and pulling away from the house. Nail It gave me a quote that day and said they'd call the next week to set up an appointment to perform the work. They never called. Turns out, they lost their appointment book, so they never followed up with us. In November 2009, I emailed Nail It and explained that they had come out before and lost their appointment book, but we'd like to continue on and make an appointment at that point & Nail It emailed me back saying simply to call their phone number and make an appointment. Not helpful. March 2010, my husband called Nail It to make an appointment for another visit & quote set for Friday, 03/12/10. He took Friday, 03/12/10 off to be home to meet the roofers and explain the roofing issues. Nail It shows up unexpectedly on Thursday, 03/11/10 instead. They were in the neighborhood and figured they would just drop by. Not a big deal, because I happened to be home. But, this time, they couldn't give me a quote and they weren't sure the fascia should be added to the roof. Their suspicion was that there is a piece of plywood in the corner of the roof that is starting to sag and they weren't sure if part of the roof needed to be ripped up and replaced. They said they'd have to come back a second time with another team member to get a better idea of what needed to be done with the roof & then they could provide a quote. Although they said they'd be calling my husband to set up the next appointment, it is now Wednesday, 03/24/10 and we have not heard back at all from Nail It. They never called my husband to set up the next appointment. I have completely lost faith in this company and consider their behavior to be extremely flaky. Very disappointing considering their great "A" grade on Angieslist. I would not consider using them again, period.

It went great. Rodrigo took care of everything, and they were on time and professional. My husband has some experience with roofing, and he was extremely impressed with their work and professionalism from start to finish. They arrived early in the morning and began tearing off the old roof. They took a very short lunch, and had the new roof on by the late afternoon. They had about 6 or 7 workers, and each had a specific job that made the process very efficient. My neighbors were having their roof put on by another company, and there was a big difference in the work ethic and time it took to get the work done. We are right in the middle of the rainy season, so they took advantage of the one dry day we had and got the work done. They were neat, and careful of our property. The roof looks and works great, and they did an excellent job cleaning up. I would recommend them highly and use them again.

Rodrigo was really great right from the start. We really liked him and his bid was one of the lower bids of all the bids we got. And even though one should be wary of the low bidder we had confidence in Nait It! because of their consistently high ratings on Angie's List and after meeting him we were convinced that he was the right guy. We love our roof! It was amazing to see this team at work. They were in and out in 2 days on a very difficult steep roof. They were thoroughly professional, impeccable in their craftsmanship and were a delight to have around. Huff NOT, this was a sub job for which we charged $2600.00. We went there 4 times and could never finish because of different issues mostly the homeowner changing her mind and unable to install them were she wanted them due to structural issues, not our performance or skills. She also on one occasion she sent my crew away for not being "presentable" (when it was not the case, perhaps ugly faces), but mostly we felt very uncomfortable. Because she couldn't make up her mind and kept being called out, to add to the job, we needed to charge extra. We were never compensated for the extra trips so we terminated our work there. However we were not hired by her but by Hamish Murray Contractors.

I hired them because they had done the house that was done the street. They were clean and neat. They were incredibly fast. They were cheerful. I had them come out and give me a bid. They gave me the lowest bid. They were different from the other companies I had looked up because they definitely knew what they were doing. They were completely on top of the project. They completed the work in a week. They had their own soccer team and they worked on the roof in the same manner. They were 9-10 of them. They did a perfect job. The area they worked on was 3ft from the edge of the roof to the neighbor?s property line. They didn?t cause any problems to the neighbors. When I had my house repainted, I had them come back again and do some more work for me. They completed the work in four hours.

When Rodrigo came over to examine our roof and work up an estimate he provided a complete packet including brochures of the roofing products we could choose from, Certificate of Ins, CCB#, Consumer Protection Notice (Actions to take when hiring a contractor). He then emailed us with a detailed estimate including various options. His bid was a little higher than a competitors bid based on using 30lb felt. I called him to discuss the bid and he matched the other bid without hesitation. His team actually showed up about 30 minutes prior to the designated time and immediately started work. They were very professional and respectful of our property. They did a great job in cleaning up and completed the work faster than the estimated time frame we had anticipated.
