I was amazed. They were very careful, personal, thorough, understanding with my needs and professional. The crew was amazing. I looked out at one point and they had the entire wood cut and stacked already, that we decided to keep. They were great. When they were finished with a tree they would ask me my opinion. They were done within the time they said they would be. They also cleaned everything up very well. I would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Our pear tree was 18 ft. tall and it died, so it had to be taken down completely. Also, a pine tree next to that had died and they removed that. They also trimmed a willow tree that got hit by the hurricane a few years back, to save it. They also trimmed and spruced up the locust tree in the front yard. When I and originally contacted them, they had told me it would be the end of the week before they could come but they had a cancelation so they came out 4 days early, which was great.

Everything turned out great. They did a good job. They got it done pretty quickly and we plan on using them again in the future for another job.

Excellent job. Mike came out and gave a written estimate. Money is really tight right now and he is willing to spilt the job into 3 parts over 3 months. The first phase was today;canopying 2 large pear trees- over 30 years old- in our front yard. The trees themselves last had work about 5 years ago and were making an "expressway for raccoons" to reach our roof accroding to a trapper. Mike and his crew came about 12 noon and got right to work. They had one guy in the trees with ropes and another on our porch roof. They removed all branches that were touching the roof and dead wood. Several guys on the lawn kept the area clean and orderly. They removed the fallen limbs and chipped them at intervals which I thought was nice to our neighbors. The guy on our porch roof even blew out the gutters. The guy in the tree on ropes left a bird's nest that was on one of the branches. The trees border our neighbor's property and I was concerned about our neighbor getting damage during a storm that we would be liable for. Mike and his crew were excellent. They did a little bit of trimming then allowed us to make the decision to take out more branches that could cause damage in a storm. They cleaned up every bit of our yard, the neighbor's and even the street where the chipper was. I would trust them to be here with my teenagers or with my elderly mother. They worked around cars, bushes, flowers, etc. with no damage at all. They were nice, respectful, pleasant, and professional. I would recommend them highly.
Description of Work: canopy several trees- about 8 on our property as well as remove at least 2 entirely.

I purchased the Big Deal. I called and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate. We scheduled and appointment for Monday. He called on Saturday and said was nearby and came by for the estimate. We agreeded upon the amount of work above what was included in the Big Deal. He said they would come on Thursday or Friday dependind on the weather. The weather that week was questionable so I was not suprised they did not come but I was disappointed they did not call. They did call the following week and scheduled me for Friday. They showed up and did work contracted. I also had them remove an additional small tree and they chipped some other wood I had cut prior to the appointment. We adjusted the price. They quickly performed the work and cleaned up after. I was satisfied with the work and the cost.

We called two companies for an estimate (Phoenix and Woodruff). First, it was difficult get Phoenix to respond as they wouldn't return our calls, but they eventually did show up. Mike at Woodruff, however, was incredibly responsive and came out right away to do the estimate. When comparing costs, Woodruff was over $450 cheaper when making a direct comparison of the estimates. On the day of the service, they showed up exactly on time and went straight to work. We could not believe how quickly and efficiently they worked! They were done before we knew and did everything we asked. We will definately use them again!!
Description of Work: They cut down a large maple tree (approx. 30 ft. tall with a 3 ft. wide base) and a small ornamental tree (approx 10 ft. tall). They also ground down the stumps for both and cut the maple into manageable sizes so we could move the wood where we needed it.

Mike of Woodruff Tree Service initially came to my home on March 27 to review the work I wanted done. He was prompt and very professional. We discussed what I wanted and agreed that the work would be done on Tuesday, April 3. When I came home late Monday, April 1 I was very disappointed to see that the tree had been cut to h***. I was so upset. My boyfriend contacted Mike the next morning. Mike did not understand that we had an appointment for Tuesday and believed that they could come to do the work any time during the week. He agreed that it was inapproriate to come on property and do this work without the homeowner present. He was very apologetic and wanted to make it right. Although I am not happy with how the tree now looks, I appreciate Woodruff''s willingness to reach out to me and make it right. As it turns out, they immediately provided my full refund and even offered to do other work. They were apologetic and very concerned that I could ultimately become a return customer. Mike offered to come back out, but I declined as there's no way to put the tree back together so I didn't want to waste his time. The tree will eventually grow back, so I considered the matter closed. I might give this company another try. In the future, I would recommend written confirmation of the work date and clear meeting of the minds regarding what the customer wants/expects.
Description of Work: I purchased a coupon via Angie's list $99 for up to $200 worth of tree service. I used the coupon for tree trimming service of our free stone peach tree in the back yard.

Per Steve, they would arrive at 9 a.m. to start cutting down the tree, but they arrived after 11 a.m. After the first day of cutting, Steve asked if I would pay half of the bill so he could pay the workers. This was not in the contract and they were not paid until the work was down. Due to the weather it took several days to get the tree down and I was fine with that. No limbs were dropped on the house until the last day, when the guy cutting down the tree on this day was not the same guy that started cutting the tree down the first several days. Several limbs were dropped on the house, a new roof was installed 3 months prior and I had some real concerns that the roof maybe damaged. Not one worker said a word about the limbs hitting the house. The trunk of the tree was cut in a way that it would fall into my neighbors yard. The neighbors were unable to use their driveway while the trunk was being cut down. The neighbors yard was damaged and they had to tell the workers to clean the driveway and sidewalk. They didn't seem to care that the trunk of the tree was in a neighbors yard or that they damaged their yard. Large holes remain in my yard from the large limbs that fell down after being cut. Not all the roots were grinned. Photo's were taken through out this process.
Description of Work: We wanted a large oak tree cut down in the front yard with the stump, roots grind down, and all wood removed. The company was contacted January 17, 2012 and (Steve) responded the next day to provide an estimate. They started working on January 19, 2012.

Response from Woodruff Tree Service
The time to start the job was set for between 9-11am, the only reason the job took 3 days was because the second day we got an ice storm and there was over a half an inch of ice on the ground and tree. The only thing that fell on the roof was ice from the limbs that was roped off. When you take a 120 ft oak tree down there is going be damage to the yard as state in contract. Tree was within 8 ft of neighbor’s yard and driveway, branches were cut up and moved as fast as they fell but not fast enough for them. Upon completion customer was 100% satisfied, and we have not been contacted since. If we were contacted with any concerns we would have came out same or next day to take care of it.

They did an excellent job. It looks great. I really appreciated their work. Lastly, they were quick in getting the job done, too.
Description of Work: They called me this morning to say that they were coming out. They looked at the tree for about 20 minutes and then cut it down. This was in my neighbor's yard but the tree overhung over my roof. They trimmed the branches then cut down the tree. They cleaned up their mess afterwards.

1 - Take down pines, grind stumps, even the ground - They 5 person team (the reason he said he had to charge so much) did remove the pine trees & ground the stumps. But they did NO EVENING OF THE GROUND. They came on a day when the ground was NOT FROZEN & their HUGE TRUCK was stuck in my yard for an hour. Michael made huge gouges in the yard, sprinkled a little grass seed & never returned. He said he would call Friday, but that was nearly a MONTH AGO!!! 2 - They did take down the Honeysuckle, BUT FAILED TO GRIND ALL OF THE STUMPS. 3 - When they took the pile of branches away, they MOVED THE HUGE TRUCK ONTO THE YARD AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This was after I specifically said NOT to back the truck onto the yard again. All they had to do was use the small truck to move it to the big truck. They were simply LAZY & wanted to be done to get more money per hour. So now my entire back yard is full of HUGE RUTS!!! EVEN the local SHERRIF stopped me to ask if there had been VANDALISM at my house due to the HUGE tire tracks everywhere. He left many things behind in the pile (OK), but did not pile them so they were off the grass. Plus I cannot tell how many honey suckle tree roots are not ground down. 4 - The did not take ANY of the CEMEMNT BLOCKS away!!! Thus I could not mow my lawn properly. While attempting to mow the lawn it felt like I was riding a BULL as I was thrown UP & DOWN over the RUTS. I had a MIGRAINE HEADACHE afterwards. 5 - Agreed to clear small area of weeds. Later he said that I don'y have to do it if it is not on the contract. Well, then his word is worth nothing & so his contract is worth nothings. Lied. MICHAEL'S PLAN was to take a 1' X 1' flat piece of wood with a handle & pound that around the ACRE YARD (1/2 of which he DAMAGED). I said that he needs to have it rolled professionally. He did not even know what that was until he found a relative that has a SMALL barrel to fill with water. He MUST NOT DO THE REPAIR since he had no clue what it was -- not a tree cutter's expertise. What I would agree to ONLY or I want ALL OF MY $$$ back (even after HE PAYS F for the REPAIRS): - I choose the company & Michael pays to have the lawn flattened. There is 1 additional (small) area that could use it as well. - Give me enough "special grass seed" that he used to fix the repairs completely (and the pool area as promised). Due to his reclessness I want enough of the same grass seed to fix the other areas of the lawn that need help. Not a huge area. - Have Michael & the team do a "Spring makeover" to the yard. Complete weed eating, including trimming along the driveway & patio areas, as well as around the fence. He needs to CAREFULLY spray professional strength weed killer under the entire fince. - Have michael take the 3 extremeley small areas (2 are barely 2' X2' long) weeded out, put dig soil to make soft & add enriched soil. Plant simple perennials in each area (we can discuss choices). Create 1 flower bed (with trim) underneath the "Florida room" about 2' wide, with pretty rock underneath the Air Conditioner. This would include adding soil & weed killer (like the other areas too) - Bottom line, Michael needs to make the repairs & as a payback -- make my lawn ready for the block lawn prize. This would include trimming the 5 front bushes. This would also include taking the honeysuckle off the 2 trees in the front yard. Michael's stupidity to use heavy equipment on a lawn when NOT FROZEN (even after I warned him) shows that he has no busines in his business. He is ALL ABOUT MONEY!!! PLEASE CALL (after 3:00 PM EST) to help start the resolution. I gave him a chance to fix things before writing this report, but he blew me off. I gave him even another chance to fix a few of the above ideas (once he fixed the DAMAGES) and I would give him an excellent Angie's review, but heh did not care. He even has "On Angie's List" on his truck -- that will have to be taken off if he does not comply with the above. Thank you,
Description of Work: Michael the owner wrote up the estimate. His prices were very high until I changed what I would do. Then he lowered the prices. Job to be done: 1 - Take down a row of dead pine trees. Grind all the stumps. Even out the ground. 2 - Take down & clear the Honeysuckle & grind the stumps (and the ones on the property). 3 - Take away a large pile of shrubbs & branches. 4 - Take away all cement blocks. 5 - Verbally agreed to clear a SMALL area of weeds.

After a prior tree company removed trees but didn't grind the stumps thoroughly, I took advantage of a $200 Angie's List Special Deal with Woodruff Tree Service, gave them a call and spoke with Mike Woodruff (this is a family owned-company). Mike came out the same day to assess the situation and give me a quote. His servicemen came out a few days later, removed a small tree ground three stumps, and trimmed several trees away from the house. All debris was removed, leaving my yard and sidewalks clean. The service staff was professional, friendly and helpful. Mike Woodruff took the time to answer all of my questions about future tree care. I'm very happy with the results.

I joined Angie's list to find a highly qualified tree service. My trees are very large and due to fencing difficult to reach. In the past in order to trim these trees we had to remove fence and gate posts to accommodate trucks. They took them down without the trucks. They climbed and roped them all. I have two large dogs and appreciate the fact the fences remained in place. There were five men. As soon as a branch or log was lowered to the ground it was cut, moved and stacked. They cleaned up every night before they left They removed my deck furniture and replaced it when they were finished. I expected it to be expensive but was a little higher than I expected. I have no problem with what it cost. It was a very tough and dangerous job. They all worked really hard. They did a great job and earned every penny.

Went very well. They showed up and got to work. Eliminated the smaller of the two trees quickly, and used the bottom portions of the stumps as blocking to protect the sidewalk when felling the larger tree. Stump grinding is a bit of a misnomer. Stump elimination would be a better word. When previously we took down trees (different company), the stump was ground and a pile of chunky mulch was left. Woodruff ground the stumps and shallow roots creating a mixture of well-ground dirt/mulch which they raked/shoveled/blew onto a pile. They cleaned up, removing the trees & branches. They cleaned the walk and driveway. Price for felling trees was good, slightly better than one other quote, and much better than another. Stump grinding, especially the way they did it, was a very excellent value. 1/2 the cost of one quote and a third of another.

Within one week of my initial call to Woodruff the job was completed. The team was professional with good communication throughout the whole process. The price quoted was competitive. The large sycamore that had to be climbed and taken down in parts cost $400 with the stump ground down. The large tree that they were are able to take down with ropes was $300 (stump ground down). The team cleared the large brush areas and cleaned up all of the debris. My kids were able to play safely in the yard as soon as the team left.

I contacted Woodruff's for an estimate. Mike showed up on time. He was able to point out branches and limbs that needed attention, as well as other branches and limbs the should be considered trimming to eliminated future problems. Aside from Mother Nature trying to delay things by repeatedly causing severe weather on the days that we had the work scheduled. everything went well. Mike's crew worked quickly and efficiently. They even hauled the remaining fire wood to my next door neighbor's backyard. When they finished, they raked up the smaller twigs and used a leaf blower to clean up the driveways and sidewalks.
Description of Work: We purchased an Angie's List Big Deal coupon for tree trimming. Since we purchased our house over 2 years ago, one the of the things that needed to be done was have the trees thinned out and some low hanging branches trimmed back from the house. This seemed like a good opportunity.

We purchased the $200 valued deal for $90. It was very difficult to get in touch with Mike. Finally we spoke and Mike sdcheduled a time to come out and give us an estimate. After the estimate he scheduled to come out the next day and complete the job. We decided upon him shaping 9 small shrubs and trimming back 3 small trees. The next day, no one showed. I understand being a small company and being busy. But -- they did not bother to phone and let me know they would be late. Finally, after three hours, i phoned and Mike called back. He said they were behind on a job and would still come out. Finally, after waiting five hours past the agreed upon time, they arrived. No apology, no mention of being late. Then they set to work chopping up my plants. Basically -- they are just not very skilled. They chopped up the trees, and stomped over all of our flowers. When I pointed this out, he looked like he was confused that that bothered me. They need a lot of supervison to make sure they do not leave the downed limbs, etc in the yard and seemed annoyed when I asked them to clean up after themselves. They did not know what type any of the trees are, which i think is important so that you know when to trim them back, etc. Overall- I think they should never be used for any type of home landscape project but are probably are fine to come in and just gring up tree stumps or pull down trees which you do not care about. I would have been really upset had I paid the full $ 200 for this job.
