I have nothing but the highest praise for this daycare. As a first-time mother I spent a significant amount of time looking into child care services, and toured at least a dozen facilities on the east side of town. I found several that I liked, but really got a good feeling from this facility from my first visit. The owner, Tami, has obviously put a lot of time and effort into assembling an excellent and competent staff. My son started in the infant room at the age of 9 weeks, and has really flourished there. What I love about this daycare: #1: The staffing ratio is 3:1 for infants, with 2 caregivers for a max of 6 babies, but I know that many times in the afternoons there are 3 staff in the infant room when staff shifts are overlapping, making it a 2:1 ratio for a period of time. #2: My son has had a total of only 3 caregivers over the course of his time there, and I think having only a few set people taking care of him every day has helped him to bond with his caregivers and given him a real sense of security. There has been no turnover in staff in the daycare as far as I have been able to tell, and that speaks volumes about staff satisfaction. #3: The caregivers really give each baby a significant amount of attention and cuddling (I know this from viewing on the webcam--see #6 below). My son is very happy there (always has a big smile when he sees one of his caregivers). This is a warm and friendly place, and the kids of all ages love it there. #4: The staff (both his daily caregivers and management staff) make it a priority to get to know the individual needs of each child, and are flexible in making any changes that will benefit the child. They are eager to ensure they are providing care as I would be giving if I were at home with him. They have been great about keeping him on the general schedules I requested. #5: They are wonderful about communicating with my husband and I, both on the details of his day and on the big-picture stuff. They know him well enough to know when something isn't quite right and have made some really helpful suggestions along the way. #6: There is a web-based video monitoring system, which was unique to this daycare when I looked at facilities. I love that I can just log on anytime I have a break during my day at work and see what he's up to. Every time I log on, if he isn't napping in his crib, he is being held or is receiving attention, playing with other babies and caregivers in the play area. The monitoring system was especially helpful one day recently when I got an excited call from a manager that he had started crawling--I was able to log on and watch from my desk! :-) #7: Despite warnings from friends who have kids in other daycares about how frequently their child was out sick when starting daycare, this has not been a problem at all for us. I also appreciate that they don't freak out when a kid gets a little sniffle or cough. Friends warned me that anytime their kids (in other daycares)showed the slightest sign of being sick, they had to leave work and come pick them up. My husband and I are both busy physicians, so this was a real concern for us when choosing a daycare. Not sure if we're just lucky but he has had only 1 cold during the winter/spring months, and the other babies haven't been sick much either. #8: They put the needs of the child as the #1 priority, even if it conflicts with the "usual policies". Example: we found out we would be moving out of town when my son would be 10 months old, and usually by that time a child has moved from the young infant room to the older infant room, changing caregivers in the process. They suggested that we just keep our son in the younger infant room with his usual caregivers, rather than put him through the stress of moving environments and getting used to new caregivers for a such short period of time. Really a great example of their attention to the needs of individual kids. Overall, we have had a wonderful experience with the Kinder Garden School and would very highly recommend them to anyone. We feel our son is getting the best care possible, and it is so reassuring to be able to leave him in a nurturing environment with people with whom we feel 100% comfortable. One of our biggest regrets in moving is that our son will not be able to continue at this daycare!
