When I first booked this venue for my party I was very excited. it was someplace different. They were fine to work with in the planning stages. I cant say they were so helpful but i have no general complaints up until the ngiht of my event. I provided a time line of how i wnated the evening to go.When dinner shoudl be served ect. they could not follow the simple time line, nor was anything ready when we had asked . When they finally did have dinner ready they ran out of food. they were not able to feed my guest. the Chef, Greg was as surprided as Iwas when he ran outof food. Not only did they run out they made no effort to try to find or get more food for my guests. Let me add that I was under 6 guest from my original number I have to the 20th Century. Their staff was horrible. Not one of the staff except for the chef was apologetic or tried to make the situation better. In addition they lied to me and told me that the kids at my party which there were many had 2 and 3 helping which is not true. When i did not pay that night and i met with the owner Mark the following Monday he was somewhat sorry for running out of food, but could not explain why. he then lied to me as well told me my guest were complementing him on their food and telling his staff how wonderful things were. in additon when i tired to follow up wiht Mark days later to discuss things further. he called me a liar and told me i had been lieng since the beginging of my planning process. then he told me never to call him again and hung up on me.The fact that he woudl not even listen to what I had to say speaks volumes to how wrong he was and how his venue messed up. The owner Mark is not even involved in the planning process. His daughter Lindsey is the contact person. So how Mark can comment on things when he was not even part of the process just makes his credability even less. I the 20th century is unproffesional, and un pleasant to work with.While it is a differnt kind of place to have a party I woudl never recommend it

The 20th century failed to provide a full dinner for my guests. They ran out of food!. we had agreed on a menu for a set number of people and they ran out of food. When they ran out there were no apolgies from the staff and no effort to correc the problem

Over the past 15 years The 20th Century has been host to over a thousand weddings, we have been the venue of choice for thousands of concerts, and we have been a primary contributor to hundreds of charity events raising hundreds of thousands of dollars. Because of our outstanding business reputation, we have been repeatedly asked to join the Better Business Bureau and We are proud to say that over 50% of our business is as a result of outstanding referrals. Planning an event at The 20th Century Theater is always a very exciting event for all our clients. Clients are the backbone of every business and it is no different for The 20th Century Theater. We take pride in how thoughtfully we attend to our client’s needs from initial contact thru the planning process and on thru to the end of their event. It is the very same care and attention we give to each client and event and it is the very same care and attention given to [members name]. I invite you to contact any of my clients for the past ten years…you will find the same response from them all…”We Love The 20th Century Theater!” As I will never be happy that a client has in any way been dissatisfied, this particular client was determined from the beginning to be dissatisfied. The specifics of her behavior will be outlined below. However, At this point I will express that this client made every effort to sabotage the success of her event. In fact, it was almost as though it were sport for her. The 20th Century is one of the primer Wedding Venues in Cincinnati. As professionals in the industry, we are regarded by our clients as being “the easiest” group to plan an event with because our staff is supportive and understanding. We are widely known as providing the most relaxed and low stress atmosphere for planning events. Our staff has received countless letters from clients expressing how they went over and above the call of duty; that their special day was made all the more special because of the great care and attention given. In some cases, our staff has even been referred to as “Fairy Godmothers” because of their level of service. I will say, [members name] can hold me accountable for and I take full responsibility for our kitchen staff running a few minutes behind delaying the start of food service. As a resolution to her complaint, I happily refunded her $1500. She was a client with a concern and I was responsible to ensure her immediate satisfaction. Situation taken care of…another happy client. A full week later, The client called to get more of a refund. The $1500 refund agreed upon as final settlement was not, in her opinion, enough. Given the abusive treatment of my staff, the misrepresentations of the truth as will be outlined below, and the very generous discounts, free services and event supplies, and post event refund; I believed this client had crossed the line of just how much abuse a service business is required to endure. I then ended negotiations and invited this client to take her event planning needs elsewhere. Below I have outlined the specifics of this clients behavior throughout the planning and during the event so you may have a clearer understanding of just how the events transpired and how my staff was mistreated. [Members name] Contracted The 20th Century Theater as her choice to host her daughter’s Bar mitzvah. In coordination with [members name] Professional Party Planner; Manager, Lindsey Johnson worked directly with [members name] planning everything for the event… floor layout, the audio visual and sound engineering/music production needs, opportunities to make use of 20th century decorations, use of table linens and unlimited use of the facility for the day of the event. A very straight forward planning session given the same care and attention to detail as with all planning sessions. Upon reaching the end of the meeting; our Manager was subject to a very unpleasant exchange between [members name] and her present Party planner where they were plotting excuses to fire her first party planner. The plotting revolved around fictitious story lines to deliver party planner #1 to sever relationship with without losing any money but to still have her on the hook in the wings just in case she may be needed…(preventing pp#1 from scheduling another client and preventing her from being paid by [members name]). This of course raised red flags to the integrity of the client. In the final planning session dedicated to menu planning, Owner, Mark Rogers sat down with [members name] and Her Professional Party Planner to create a custom menu. With 15 years experience in event and menu planning, Mark made his suggestions for a successful menu given the time of day, the number of guests and the proportion of adults to children. Both members name her Professional Party Planner chose to ignore his seasoned advice and insisted on a menu that was insufficient for an evening event…a menu designed for a lunch event. I need to stress that the client and the Professional Party Planner chose a menu that was advised against. So with the final Planning session complete, the final contract included and delivered the following: -use of The 20th Century Theater facilities for the day of the event -sound and light Production -valet -appetizers adult and children’s -Bar package based on alcohol consumption and unlimited non-alcohol -Adult dinner: Sandwich bar with attendant Tenderloin Sandwiches on Hawaiian Bun w/ Creole Mayo, Worshetsure Mayo Sun Dried Tomato Ranch, Roasted Red & Yellow Pepper, Sautéed Onion Horseradish Sauce Sliced Roasted Portabella Mushrooms to order Sweet Potato French Fries Romaine Lettuce Salad w/ Feta Cheese, Pine Nuts & Dried Cranberries Balsamic Vinaigrette -Children’s Dinner Mini Burger Bar with attendant Mini Burgers Mini buns Plain with American Cheese on the side Mustard, Ketchup & Mayo Sweet Potato Fries w/ Apple Butter -Dessert The Client did Receive all that was included in her contract as well as a number of free items…Such as Free linens, and the extra rental of 8 tables for free. The evening of the event, at the point of service, the client decided to change the logistics of the food presentation in a very significant way. Instead of letting our professional staff do their job…a job they preform each and every week to the wonderful satisfaction of countless Brides and their families, This client decided to jump in and direct the flow of guests to the buffet. . Her method caused considerable problems for both guests and staff. I need to mention, that neither party planner she worked with were at the event to direct and finish their job. As is tradition, we orchestrate a continual flow of guest to the buffet by way of banquet captain…inviting guests a table at a time to visit the buffet. This ensures two things…The guests don’t have to stand in a long line for any length of time and the kitchen can ensure a fresh presentation of food throughout the evening. This was not the case for this event. The Client took it upon herself to invite the entire party of guests to the buffet lines…the entire 174 guests descended on the buffet…This is not how we serve a buffet…Our reputation is built on our fantastic service and top quality of food and presentation. This process put the serving staff and the kitchen staff in a very difficult situation…and making matters worse, the client proceeded to yell at the servers and then entered the kitchen to continue to yell at our kitchen staff…The problems were further added to by her poor choice in dinner entree for her adult guests…None of her guests were happy with sandwiches for dinner…they all insisted on large cuts of tenderloin resulting in a quick consumption of beef. Being service oriented we of course served what the guests wanted. This menu, may I restate, was warned against. What the client contracted for was 74 tenderloin sandwiches at $19.95 a plate, What She received was 84 tenderloin Dinners that we usually charge $28.95 a plate … I say 84 because we always set up our room for additional seating …as a just in case…we set for 84 adults in this case. The client contracted for only 74 adult plates… However, all the seats were occupied…so actually we did not run short on the food…she was over her contract by 10 guests. That aside, no guest went without. Our chef, quite admirably rose to the occasion and prepared individual steaks for her few remaining guests. The last 8 adults out of the 84 that attended were very happy with their individually prepared steaks. I quite honestly have never seen a client behave in this manner in all my years in the service industry. My staff was poorly treated actually verbally battered the entire evening, My manager was taken advantage of thru the pricing of the contract giving the client price breaks and in some cases free items while additionally, made to feel very uncomfortable having to be a party to this clients underhanded treatment of party planner #1, whom we have had years of fantastic events with. As Owner, I was taken advantage a week after the event. The client continued her assault on my staff and as means of resolving her concerns; I refunded her $1500. Having thought the concerns were resolved thru monetary settlement and verbal agreement, I was very surprised a further week later that the client was renewing her contact and asking for an additional refund. Having been taken advantage of enough…free linens, free tables, free additional adult dinners not contracted for, a $1500 refund, and further attacks on my staff… I felt enough was enough and chose to end contact with this client and invited her to take her future event planning needs elsewhere. This client has not ended her attacks on me, my business and my staff…She has taken it upon herself to actively contact my future clients in an effort to get them to break their contracts with the 20th Century Theater. Fortunately, She contacted individuals who have had wonderful past experiences and who’s recent events were fantastic. Contact information for these clients can be provided upon request. As I will never be happy that a client has in any way been dissatisfied, this particular client was determined from the beginning to be dissatisfied. She was dishonest and deceitful…taking advantage of every person she engaged in the process of planning her daughter’s bar mitzvah.
