STAY AWAY!! I wish I listened to the review left by another customer on another website. It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with this company. The only positive comment I can make is that his sons are nice. The owner, William Holland, has no regard for agreed upon completion dates or quality of work. We signed contracts for an extension, on March 20, 2021. As of June 7th, 2022 the job was still not completed. He told us that this job would take approximately 3 months and that it would be completed late July-early August 2021. He then blamed his architect having personal problems for the plans being 4 months delayed. We told him we wanted to cancel as we felt like we were getting the run around but he convinced us to stay with him telling us the town is only running 3-4 weeks to issue permits and the job would definitely be completed by late October, early November 2021. We hear nothing for months and then he blames the town taking so long to issue permits after he tells us they are being issued within 1 month. Late December, 2021, the day before the job is finally going to start, he calls me to tell me we have to pay an additional 10,000 dollars if we want the basement. He quoted us a price of 11,000 to excavate for the basement and then tells us that if you want a basement it is now going to be 21,000 dollars. After this we told him that we either want a refund of our deposit and cancel the job or we want a new contract stating that the job would be completed NO LATER THAN MAY 1ST, 2022 and that there would be no more price increases. He then had the nerve to charge us 850.00 dollars to redraw the plans for no basement when we would not pay an additional 10,000 above the agreed upon price. On Saturday, April 2nd, less than a month before the agreed upon completion date, all we had was a shell, not even the drywall was up. He comes over and asks for another large payment. His payment schedule is top heavy to ensure he gets most of his money upfront. I told him that, considering the fact that there is no way this job is going to be completed by May 1st, we need to see some progress before we make the next payment as there were weeks that went by with no work done. He then threatened me by saying , and I quote, I NEED THAT PAYMENT TODAY OR MONDAY BY THE LATEST OR EVERYTHING STOPS. We had no choice but to pay him as we had an unusable shell and to hire someone else when he had the majority of the payments already would have been financially impossible for us. We then could not finish the plumbing because he never filed for a plumbing permit. He also said the plumbing could go through the ceiling but then said he was mistaken and chopped up our basement floor and left it like that for over 5 weeks (he said it would be put back together in a week and a half) rendering it virtually unusable and unsafe as I fell on my knee trying to get to the laundry. He first tried to blame the town for losing the paperwork but I called and they said it was never filed. I called him June 3rd asking for a confirmation that the job will be completed by June 7th as his FOURTH promised completion date and he said quote, It is a bit early in the morning to talk about dates right now. He sends his plumber on June 7th, could not do anything because William Holland never installed the vanity so he could not connect sinks. He also ruined our deck material as the manufacturer said it was installed improperly and voided the 40 year warranty. He kept insisting it was installed correctly. We finally had enough and on June 22nd hired other contractors to finish a job that should have been finished almost a YEAR AGO! Additionally there are many mistakes, some serious, with his work. We have paid THOUSANDS of dollars to fix mistakes made by his company and now he is trying to bully us to pay for shoddy and unfinished work by serving us with a mechanics lien ...
Response from Cavalier Homes, Inc.

"My response to this complaint is as follows we did sign contracts on March 20, 2021, but did not receive the building permit from the town until November 2021. My contract was for an extension with a crawlspace foundation. I gave my customer the option to start in January or wait until the spring of 2022, they agreed for me to start in January 2022. The foundation was installed around January 15, 2022, and had to be hand dug and wheelbarrowed from the back of the house to the front and loaded on a truck of all the excess fill that had to be removed. It is true we had problems with the architect taking a long time to do the final drawings. Lisa advised me that she was going to cancel the contract because the plans were taking so long. I agreed to refund the deposit and cancel the contract. I spoke with the architect and he agreed he would take $1000 off for his fee if they did not cancel. We submitted the plans and got the approved plans and permits around the end of October 2021. I had my Mason meet me at the Jobsite in early December 2021 and that was the first time he was there. The problem with digging with the machine was initially we would be able to get it back there but because the property runs at an angle we would not be able to get the machine out after digging the basement. I informed the homeowners and told him at that time it would be an additional $10,000 to hand dig and remove of the fill. I received an email on December 26, 2021, from Lisa that she wanted an amendment to the original contract that would include all the extras as of that date, that we will hand dig and remove the fill for the crawlspace foundation and that it would be completed by May 1, 2022, as long as there was no supply issues or additional work that will extend the time. Lisa agreed to this and we signed an amended contract on January 15, 2022. After my customer tried getting her own prices for the foundation work she decided to go back to doing just the crawlspace which meant I had to have the architectural drawings changed for the town building permit and the architect for $850. There was an additional fee of $2800 that I paid my Mason contractor to hand dig and remove excess fill for the new crawlspace and foundation. The plumbing permit was not issued until May 9 of 2022. All our work was inspected by the town and approved such as foundation work, framing, electric, rough plumbing, siding, and insulation. The only work left on the job to be completed was plumbing fixtures to be installed, baseboard heat that my customer had me move three times, base trim, and a small punch list that I went over with them on June 20, 2022. I also found out that day they had someone else install my maple hardwood flooring and I explained to them I will not warranty the installation of the floor. T On June 21, 2022, I emailed over a final list of things to be completed and asked for final completion date of July 30, 2022. I had all the necessary approvals from the town and inspections and there still is a substantial balance due to my company. I try to satisfy all my customers and unfortunately had to turn this matter over to my attorney. Thank you for letting me respond to this complaint."

Bill also remodeled my kitchen. He promised me he would give me more space than I had in my small, out-dated kitchen. He delivered! My kitchen is efficient, cabinets that are functional and provide me so much room. He takes great pride in his work. His employees are the same. When it was time to do my bathroom I had no hesitation in hiring Bill. He is honest, hardworking and keeps his word. You will not be disappointed.
