"5 Star Home Services, Inc. was sent to our home on 7/27/24 for a service call through Fidelity National Home Warranty to fix our A/C. (We had to wait 2 days for this visit) When the technician arrived, we informed him that we had just had another A/C company diagnose the issue, but had decided to utilize the home warranty, and informed him that the other A/C company had found an issue with the coils in the attic. The 5 Star Home Services technician didn’t go into the attic at all and said he had found the issue on one of the outdoor units and ‘fixed’ the problem. Two days later, our A/C isn’t working again. Fidelity National Home Warranty dispatches 5 Star Home Services for a second visit. This time, we had to wait 4 or 5 days for the second service call, due to a ‘scheduling confusion’ by 5 Star. The second service call happens on 8/7 and once again, the technician doesn’t go into the attic after reminding him again of the initial findings, and does some sort of ‘repair’ on the outdoor unit, indicating he had used a dye which would make the issue easier to diagnose should they need to come out again. On 8/13, our A/C isn’t working again. We call Fidelity National and they inform us they cannot dispatch 5 Star because paperwork has not been submitted by 5 Star from our visit on 8/7. They attempt to call 5 Star but this was just after 4:30 pm and the business was closed. Fidelity National asked us to call again the next morning so they could call 5 Star to request paperwork to then dispatch them for a third visit. We call the next morning, Fidelity is now able to get the documentation from 5 Star, - A WEEK AFTER THE SERVICE CALL - and we are told to expect a call from 5 Star for scheduling. Later in the day, we receive a call from Fidelity to say that 5 Star has indicated they had done their due diligence, and the air conditioning system was deemed as working upon the second visit, and 5 Star would not be coming for a third time. Meanwhile, our air conditioning system is not working. I’m left speechless at both 5 Star and Fidelity National Home Warranty. When I set my air on 76 degrees, and it climbs to 83 degrees, NEVER cooling in temperature AT ALL – not by even 1 degree, I’m unclear as to how that is a working air conditioning system. Thanks for nothing, 5 Star. You provided a horrible and HOT experience all the way around."

"Be honest, be fair, do quality work and treat the customer like you want to be treated." These are not just words, but the very foundation of My Guys Plumbing Company. Skip Nelson, coming out of an early retirement, has joined with his son Leif Nelson to create a plumbing service company dedicated to old school values of quality workmanship, honesty and integrity. "It's not about doing a job fast. It's about doing it right and doing it right the first time. It's about thinking ahead and eliminating potential problems before they rear their ugly head." Their work experience is vast from commercial to industrial and residential, but one constant theme binds these trades together and that is dedication to quality workmanship.

The average cost to install a new water heater is around $1,300, but you can expect to pay between $875 and $1,750, depending on the kind of water heater, the size of the unit, and the professional chosen to complete the work. Tankless water heaters can push your price higher, as installation is more complicated, with prices as high as $3,500. The location and accessibility of your water heater will play a role in the project cost, as those sitting in tight spaces like a crawl space will drive up your labor costs.
Tankless water heaters are more expensive than those with a storage tank, but they come with some impressive benefits that most homeowners find worth the higher investment. Most importantly, they provide unlimited hot water, so you’ll never run out like you would with a storage tank. Tankless heaters are also more efficient, so comparing gallon-for-gallon, you’ll spend less on hot water with a tankless heater. Tankless water heaters are also smaller, require less maintenance, and tend to last longer than storage tank water heaters.
It usually takes a professional water heater installer between two and three hours to remove an existing water heater and install a new tank heater. However, it could take four to five hours if they have to work in a small utility closet or another tight area, like a crawl space. Tankless water heaters have a more complicated installation process, so they will take a bit longer. Additionally, a gas water heater requires a connection to a gas line, and that alone can add about an hour to the installation timeline compared to installing an electric water heater.
It is very difficult and dangerous to install your own water heater, so we strongly recommend against tackling this as a DIY project. Not only will you need to wire your water heater, but you’ll also need to connect plumbing to the intake and outlet. Sweating copper pipes and connecting wiring properly are skills most DIYers don’t have, and even if you do feel confident you can do it, working with water and electricity always leaves the potential for electrocution. Hiring a local water heater installer is well worth the investment.
In most municipalities, a license is not mandatory for water heater installation or replacement. However, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed plumber or water heater installer to handle the work. Licensed installers are far less likely to make a mistake during the installation, which means paying for the experience decreases your risk of a leak and other issues. You can use our state licensing tool to find out if a contractor you’re considering in your area holds a plumber’s license.
