Veterinarians
December 23rd we realized we had to take our 6month old stray kitten to the Vet. She had not eaten for a couple days, and was obviously failing, and we didn't wan to end up with a crisis on Christmas Day (which happened to us anyway, but that was a horse, so not relevant for this story ;-)
We called in the a.m. and got a late afternoon appointment. When I arrived they showed us directly to an exam room (probably in part because I didn't have the kitten in a carrier, but also perhaps because they wanted to limit exposure to other patients in the waiting room)
Waited a few minutes, but not more than 10, in the exam room. The person I assume was a Vet Assistant came in and took some history and examined the kitty briefly. Shortly thereafter Dr. Seddon came in, introduced herself as Olivia. She was quite friendly and caring. She examined the kitty, took temp and stool sample and returned to say the kitten seemed to have cat "Parvo" (feline pan leukemia), and explained that the outcome for young kitties was not great. Bearing in mind that it was the day before Christmas Eve and most Vet Clinics were closing for a long holiday, she explained a number of options, and the relevant costs involved. The three primary options I remember were to -a. Take the kitty to the local vet hospital for care; b. Have the kitty put to sleep; c. Take the kitty home and try to nurse it, and if we were willing, give the kitty subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics.
It was clear Olivia was not advocating putting the kitty to sleep, but included it as an option solely because apparently some Vets consider that a reasonable option to avoid suffering.
We took the kitty home, with instructions on giving subcutaneous fluids, Saline, Needles, antibiotics, etc. (Fortunately my husband was a paramedic, so it wasn't too daunting to do the injections)
Olivia called us every day for the next few days (all through the Christmas holiday) to check in, offer advice or moral support as needed.
I'm happy to say that the little cat made a full recovery, and we're very grateful to Vet To Go for their care and services.
I give "Good" score on Professionalism simply because I didn't have the opportunity to gauge this aspect of the business outside of Olivia's outstanding care.
I give the "Fair" score on price because I'm new to the area and have nothing to compare the prices to. The cost didn't seem exorbitant to me.
