"Thanks Jacquelyn! It was a pleasure working with you."
"Very sorry that you had problems with the door widening. This is an area that seems simple, but so many factors affect the maximum width a door can be widened; electrical outlets and switches, load bearing walls, adjacent walls, the way the door swings, etc. Then you have to address the footprint of the old door and how to fill the hole left by a wider opening. In this situation, it was a 36" hallway, which could not be modified to receive a 36" door. In order to install a 36" door, you need 38" for the door framing and trim. However, if the door could have swung the opposite direction, we could have installed "flush hinges" which would have provided the same opening as a 36" door. Our Home Modification Consultant is very knowledgeable, but in these situations we rely on our lead carpenters to make the final decision, due to the "surprises" sometimes found when you open up a wall. Rest assured that the door was widened as far as humanly possible without MAJOR renovations to the structure of the home. Thank you for using Promise HomeWorks!"
