In 2017, Dr. Mittra performed the Vitrectomy to remove the floaters from the right eye. In the consultation, he said that a Vitrectomy has a 100% success rate. That it will remove 100% of the floaters with the vitreous. However, post surgery, a Large floater still remains on the right side and is very annoying. When addressing the concern with Dr. Mittra, he replied that they can remove Central vitreious and can Not go all the way out to the edge, so there is some peripheral vitreous that remains. I was disappointed that he communicated that All floaters would be removed, and wished he had been upfront of what one can expect.

I saw Robert A. Mittra, M.D. four times and he gave me a different story every time telling me I would be blind in four years, then bringing up stem cells and another time not recalling he brought up stem cells. He is arrogant, nasty and I would say incompetent.

Surgery went very well. I was pleased with the amount of detail I was provided about the eye condition and treatment options, and with the presurgery instructions and the surgery. It healed quickly and successfully, no complications. I had prepared questions and she answered them thoroughly.

I switched to Dr. Dev because I was dissatisfied with the doctor originally assigned to my case. Dr. Dev has a warm and friendly manner. He is respectful, gives complete information and answers questions patiently. I recommended him to a friend who needed the services of a retina specialist.

He had do drain the fluid for the eye to do the surgery, and then it was replace with gas. this gives you a large blind spot in the center of the eye which gradually disappears over about two weeks as the gas dissolves and your body replenishes the fluid.  My eyesight improved to 20/70 over about 4 months.

Dr. Bennett examined my eyes and explained the situation in an understandable and thorough way.  I was even able to see an image of the retina, and where the problem was.  So I received the care I needed, and in that sense my experience with Dr. Bennett and this clinic was good.
What is hard to quantify in the grading system above, however, is the overall way this clinic operates and the overall patient experience.  It is a large clinic with a full waiting room in front, and yet more waiting rooms in the back.  Both times I visited the clinic -- for the initial consultation and then a follow-up six months later, I had multiple tests and imaging procedures done to my eyes.  My situation was quite minor and benign, and yet they insisted that all of the tests were necessary.  When I reported this to my regular eye doctor, she also was surprised that they had done all the tests.  Then, when I actually saw the doctor, it was for five or ten minutes and he seemed rather distracted and rushed.  I had the sense that this was a large operation, where the doctors and the clinic were as interested in seeing as many patients as possible and doing as many expensive tests and procedures as possible, as they were providing quality, individualized care for me and all the other folks in the waiting room(s).  That is, I had a sense of being a cog in the system, going through a predetermined set of procedures, rather than as an individual patient with specific symptoms and concerns.
Because of this, I have not been back to this clinic.  The new retinal specialist I've since seen at the Mayo Clinic has yet to do any fancy tests or imaging, relying instead on a thorough, human examination to keep track of my situation.  I trust that the folks at Mayo know what they're doing, and wonder about all the over-treatment and over-billing by Dr. Bennett and his associates.

Dr. Quiram performed my retina surgery.  The surgery was successful and I would use her again if I needed to.

Overall, I had a very good experience with them. I felt comfortable with them. It all turned out well, and I was pleased with their service. I am very confident with them. They are pretty easy to approach if I have any questions. It is a large clinic, and they have about 8 eye specialists. They have clinics at a number of different places around the state, so it is easy to get an appointment with them. Their treatment has stopped the progression of my eye disease. I will use them again in the future.

I have been going to this eye clinic since 2005. This clinic is fantastic. The girls are so friendly and wonderful. The doctors are wonderful. They are just outstanding as far as I'm concerned. They take my insurance nicely. The staff seems to be very well rounded. They can do multiple things in the office. They are just very nice people. They definitely know their job. I am thrilled and feel very blessed to have been referred to this group. They are able to answer a lot of questions for you, and they have a lot of knowledge. I would highly recommend this group. Most all of the doctors in the clinic do eye surgery. They treat you in a way that is very calming. The office environment is very nice. It is not loud. Sometimes they are very busy, but you wouldn't know it because they really keep people moving.
