Andy and Rob are friendly, professional, and great at what they do. They ran the piping from my sump pump area in the basement and through a demoed furnace chimney. Very clean install without any exposed pipes, which is what I was hoping they could deliver, and they sure did. I've recommended their services to my friends and family needing mitigation testing or installs, as you can tell they care about serving their customers. Thanks guys!

Our radon level went from 25 pCi/L to 1.5 pCi/L. They arrived on time and installed the system in about three hours. They left no mess. Their knowledge of home construction made the work of installing the system internally in our home seamless without unsightly equipment or piping running out of the foundation.

As mentioned, this was one of the most positive experiences I've had with a contractor on a home-related project. The reason for all their positive reviews on Angie's List is obvious! Thank you so much Andrew and A1 Radon Services LLC!
Description of Work: Andrew at A1 Radon Services LLC responded to my email sent through their website within about 25 minutes of sending it (that's no joke, it was literally within 25 minutes!). He was very thorough in his line of questioning. In an effort to potentially save me time and money, Andrew asked me to explore alternative solutions, such as resetting the GFCI outlet, in order to confirm that service was truly needed. Once it was determined that service was needed he set up a time to look at the failed radon fan at my earliest convenience. Andrew also went the extra mile to contact the vendor of the failed radon fan, and secured a commitment from the vendor to honor the factory warranty, saving me a little over $200 on the job. Andrew arrived to perform the work precising when he scheduled, and since I was offsite he even sent me an image of the completed work. I'm not sure I've ever worked with any other contractor that displayed the level of thoroughness, professionalism, expediency, and knowledge that Andrew conveyed. I would highly recommend this company and Andrew specifically for any radon mitigation needs.

Response from A1 Radon Services LLC
Thank you very much for your kind words. I am glad we could get your radon mitigation system back up and running in a timely manner after the original installer could no longer be reached. Also; I would like to take this time to thank everyone for all the positive reviews over the years from past happy customers like you. We really appreciate all the feedback on here; it not only let's us know how we are doing as a company; but allows insight for potential future customers to know they will be in good hands should they choose to use us as their radon mitigation provider.

Andrew did an excellent job from start to finish. I think the price was reasonable and the results were great. Our pre-test was at 6.8 and the post-mitigation test was less than 2. Just what we hoped for. Thank you. I will refer others.
Description of Work: A1 did an onsite analysis of what it would take to reduce the radon levels in my home. Andrew gave me a written bid which was competitive with other bids I received. He scheduled the install within two weeks and installed the system in a day. A post-installation radon test was performed.

Very quick and friendly! Was able have my basement looked at and got an estimate the same day that I called! Installation was pretty quick, they found a channel up through the house where they were able to run the pipe through the roof, and they had a licensed electrician run the wiring for the vent fan in the attic. Good experience all around!

We used a radon test kit in our basement over a year ago to find out that we had a level of 3.9 (recommended action level is 4.0). We decided to pursue radon mitigation and the process of getting the estimate from A1 Radon was very smooth. We ended up tabling the project last year and picked it up this year and it was easy to reestablish contact and get the project scheduled. Originally the system was going to be installed through our garage but the crew decided to put it in the center of the house to get a better result even though it was much more work and effort that way as they had to access the attic using a ladder on the stairs (very cumbersome). I was impressed by that extra effort. Our post-mitigation level was 1.0 so I think their efforts paid off. The one small suggestion for improvement would be for the crew to spend a minute at the start of the project describing how long the work might take (in our home it was about 5 hours) and when it was likely to be noisy, and how noisy. I have an infant son whose nap time was during a very noisy (I was wishing we had hearing protection) part of the process and I just didn't think through the logistics of the noise level in the home. If I had thought to ask ahead of time, I would have planned to be out of the house most of the morning to avoid the noise. Overall, thank you for a job well done and increased peace of mind about the safety of our home.

Andrew did a wonderful job on short notice request for home sale. He placed the ductwork and venting system in an unobturusive area that would have no negative impact on new owner or neighbors. The work looks good and was done under the estimated bid. I have already recommended him to two people. I will also use him at my new home if tests show a need.

Andrew was very responsive and answered dozens of my questions promptly by email which I very much appreciated. A1 guarantees a 2.0 radon level which many companies do not. That was a big factor in my selecting A1. Everything went well and radon was mitigated below 2.0. I was very happy with the work. They are also certified by the MN Dept of Health. A list of providers who are certified is on the Dept of Health website and I would only choose one who is on that list with the extra qualification of diagnostic testing. A1 is on that list and there are a handful of other companies as well. Some were so busy they were not really interested in the work. I found Andrew to be extremely helpful and willing to guarantee a 2.0 which he delivered. Very happy.

Andrew was a great professional to work with. We had selected another contractor first, they had quote a price which included quite a bit of demolition to the walls. They couldn't meet our deadline so we went with A1 as our second choice. What a stroke of luck. Adrew was able to install the system with literally no demolition to finished walls, AND! Brought the radon level from above 4.0, to below 1.0. Finished on time at about 70% of the previously quoted price. Nice work A1.

Andrew was extremely professional. He came to my home to bid on the work. He explained the job completely to me and how he would install the system in the least conspicuous way. He actually placed the pipe in the basement, extending through the garage and out through the attic. I can view the fan information in my garage anytime I need to. He also sealed the sump pump and has his company's contact information in the garage and basement. His price included the cost of the electrician to do the electrical work for the fan. I didn't have to coordinate anything! Finally, we are doing the self-retest and the paperwork includes him coming back if the test results aren't below the appropriate number. Best experience with a contractor to date! I highly recommend!

A1 Radon Services was one of 4 radon mitigation contractors that we had give us a bid. Our radon levels pre-mitigation ranged from 9.0 - 16.1 pCi/L depending on the location tested. We have an unusual layout (2 different additions to the home) and no crawlspace or sump pump basket, which made installing a radon system somewhat complicated so we wanted to have several opinions. We went with A1 Radon Services as Andrew was extremely professional, responsive and his proposed location & setup for the system was by far the least destructive to our home. Our system was installed on 7/29 and was completed in less than one day. They did a great job of doing as little destruction as possible & making the system as inconspicuous as possible. We were pleased by the fact that there were no surprises in amount of work needed or charges. Everything went/cost exactly as outlined in Andrew's bid. It was a very positive experience! We just got our follow up radon test results back & we were very pleased to see that our radon level is now well within the acceptable limits for healthy air! We are down to 1.5 pCi/L (safe range is up to 4.0). Due to our unique floorplan & high levels of radon we thought we might even have to install 2 systems to get under 4.0. We couldn't have asked for a better experience! Our radon system was not as expensive as we expected, installed faster than we expected, and the aesthetics of the system are FAR better than we expected!

Owning an older home for 20 plus years, I have worked with tons of contractors and even the best ones disappoint in some ways - but in the case A1 Radon, it was the best contractor experience I've ever had, every aspect of the service was professional and well-done and they weren't the highest bid. I needed to radon mitigation done in a timely fashion for the sale of my house. Andrew promptly responded to my call and because my situation sounded a bit tricky (old house with crawl spaces) , he scheduled to see the house a few days after I called. Meanwhile, I talked to two other radon mitigation contractors, one with good referral from realtor and another off Angie's List. The realtor referral said he could do job in two weeks and gave me a thorough proposal for $3500 but then got busy and kept sliding schedule. The other Angie's List contractor gave me a general quote without seeing place but was too booked up to make my schedule when I called him back. Both these guys thought I would need to have suction points under both crawl spaces at my house, given our tested levels, and $3500 guy had plans to have pipes running all around my basement, and insulation around outside vent pipe (old house required outside run of vent). Given the two other guys were too far out in schedule and slipping on me, I called Andrew to say not to bother to meet if he couldn't get out in two weeks. Luckily, and likely taking pity on my desperation, his schedule allowed him move up his meeting and check out my house two days earlier than we had scheduled, and once he saw situation, he was able to fit me in for the work a week later. This was a great relief to me. Andrew thought I only needed a suction point under basement and that suction point would intercept radon at sufficient depth so that crawl spaces would not also need suction point. He also was confident the outside vent would not need to be insulated and that freezing during most cold winter days was very rarely a problem, and even then, at worst, on-off problem for a day or two at the most. To possibly save me money, Andrew offered to just do basement, test radon levels, and come back do more work only if needed, he was confident, given small size of basement that one suction point was all that was likely needed. But given my house sale hinged on adequate mitigation and not wanting to lose time, I asked him to go ahead to do another suction point under the bigger crawl space (that was not as well-capped), right away. Andrew came up with a compact plan to place suction points and even bothered to squeeze his work in between water heater and boiler to make system as unobtrusive as possible in the unfinished basement. He also came up with a good location to bring the pipe up the side of the house, from aesthetics and performance perspective. His layout was far superior to that proposed by the other more expensive, well-experienced contractor's bid. His bid was $1000 less than highest bid and I might have been able to save even more money if I had taken them up on offer to try doing less and test. Also, one of the other contractors said I need to clear all my boxes out of way because they work in wet and there would be muddy water splashing around. In contrast, A1 did their work in the dry and hardly left any dust, it was amazingly neat and tidy work, even though they encountered one of the thicker wall sections in our house that they had ever dealt with. A1 seems to have all the right tools, even the electricians who came after to wire system were jealous of their equipment, and while other tradesmen have had a hard time getting thru the side basement walls of my house, and A1 managed it well because they did have good tools. A1 also tested the crawl space with chemical "fake" smoke to determine where it should be sealed, and because of that, determined less capping was needed than they had bid. A1 then reduced my bill by $500 to reflect this reduced work, even while they didn't increase my bill when other things proved more difficult than anticipated. Given I had to get system and contractor approved by buyers and given my scheduling concerns, I had to email or call Andrew probably at least 10 times, and each time he promptly got back to me within few hours at the most. He even answered an email I sent on a Sat of a holiday weekend when I was concerned testing equipment was not working (it was). He sent test results off promptly and when I asked for lien waiver from him (and four other contractors who had worked house in last 6 months), he immediately email backed and said he would get it off that night, which he did at 6:30 pm - meanwhile it took weeks of harassment to get lien waivers from any of the other contractors, guys who had done far more expensive work for me than A1 Also, A1's warranty was far better than other contractors' and was transferrable to new owners, one contractor's warranty only covered fan equipment. A1's warranty covered far more. A1 Radon Services work is done by the guys who own it, so they know what they are doing and are responsible and have right tools for the job. The test results showed radon levels were 1.5 pCi/L, well below the required 4 pCi/L, when we started at 8.5 pCi/L A1 Radon Services was my best contractor experience in last 20 years, they gave me smartest solution compared to other contractors, saved me money, responded promptly, and did great work. I was very stressed about getting this work done in time for the house sale and A1 really saved the day for me with their well-done, professional, reliable service.

We are trying to sell our old home. The radon came in around 4.4 during the winterized testing. I called 3 service providers on May 19. The first one wanted a detailed drawing about layout and basically told me he didn't really have time for me but did not want to lose a possible business opportunity. On top of that, he could not install until sometime in June. He was also quoting me around 2200. It sounded as if he wanted a blueprint of our home. I basically did not want to go into the crawl space and do all his analysis work for him. The second one was very familiar with our style of home. He gave me a thorough quote over the phone but it was around $2400. A1 was recommended by my agent whom I trust. He called me back within an hour, drove to the house that evening and sent me a quote. It came in at $1585 but with a possible $1000 extra if the first step was insufficient. He called me to explain that for the mitigation to work, he needs to create a vacuum. His process works about 99% of the time. After discussing it, I agreed to go with A1 because they could get it done within a week. First, these guys patiently waited. That morning, the house had undergone inspection and the inspector had shut the power off to the garage. I had to drive over to let them in but they were kind and patient. They were fast and neat. It was explained to me how the pipe would go into the house. Finally, radon levels are 0.4! So we spent just the right amount of money. I am very happy with their service, punctuality and thoroughness.

A1 Radon is the best! We used them in a real estate transaction when a radon test revealed a 4.5 pCi/l radon level and the buyer asked us to put in a radon mitigation system as a condition of the purchase agreement. Andrew, the owner, responded the same day to my email request for an estimate. He answered all of my questions thoroughly and promptly and was very patient while we worked with the Homeowner's Association. He supplied the written proposal and all the other documentation the HOA required, and did so in a timely and professional manner. He and his partner, Rob, installed our system in just 4 hours. Because of their contracting background, they took the time, and were able to find a route from the basement to the attic, without having to go thru the garage or an interior closet, so there were no vent pipes visible anywhere in the finished living space. Their price was competitive and they even price matched a slightly lower bid that the buyer had received. They provided an electronic radon test following the installation and the radon level was reduced from 4.5 to 0.5. (anything under 4 is acceptable and anything under 2 is great.) Outside air is 0.4 so you can't get much better than that. When you are comparing radon mitigation companies, be sure you are comparing apples to apples. Not all companies include an electronic radon test after installation and not all companies include the electrician in their bid. (an outlet is required for the system fan.) Who really wants to find and hire an electrician on their own, and then try to coordinate the schedules of the radon mitigators and the electrician? Andrew and Rob were a pleasure to do business with, and they not only installed an effective system, but they left the space cleaner than they found it. I would definitely use them again and would highly recommend them to anyone who needs a radon mitigation system.

The guys were very punctual and professional. They removed their shoes at the door, and after they left, the only trace of their visit was the suction point(s) in the basement. After our initial post mitigation test came back close to 2 pCi/L, they promptly ran another more sophisticated test that tracked levels hour by hour and confirmed the slightly elevated levels. Thereafter, they returned to install a second suction point, bringing the radon level down to the desired level. Andrew was on top of the whole process from the very beginning, promptly answer my questions and responding to emails. He also stayed on top of the follow-up testing, proactively suggesting next steps and promptly scheduling any additional work. This is an area where really A1 differentiates themselves from the competition. With the recent law changes, I think some companies believe they can get away with proving a lower level of service. We contacted several other companies before hiring A1, some didn't even return calls and others didn't respond to follow-up questions after providing the estimate. A1 not only had the best price we found (they quoted a flat fee for homes like ours), but also exceptional customer service. I've already recommended them to several other friends and neighbors.
Description of Work: Andrew and team installed a radon reduction system within our basement. Initially, they installed a single suction point in the basement floor, running the vent pipe next to the furnace chase and venting through the roof. An fan was installed in the attic. Post mitigation testing still showed slightly elevated levels, so they returned to install a second suction point in the basement, bringing the final level < 0.5 pCi/L.

The guys showed up right on schedule and made quick work of the installation. Their work was clean and the site looked great when they left. They were very thorough in explaining what they were doing and ran the ducting where it wasn't so visible. The electrician came within a couple days to finish the wiring installation. The installers then set up the test device and came back a few days later to take the reading. Our radon levels went from 8+ to approx 1 after the installation - a significant decrease and well below the recommended max levels. We recently received results from our 3-month long-term test and levels were at 1.1 so teh system is working well.

Andrew and his coworker arrived within 15 minutes of the time they were supposed to. They got right to work after explaining what they were going to do. They said it would take 4 hours and it took 3.5 hours. There was no disruption in the household. They just did their thing. When they were finished they explained that the electrician would be by two days later to hook up the system to our house electric. They temporarily ran an extension cord out a back window to run the system. All in all, the work was fast, efficient, and explained well. We are pleased with the work.
