Description of Work: I had a leaking outside spigot that I could not turn off. Baker Elman's representative replaced the outside spigot (which was broken) and repaired a damaged part inside the house.

 + -1 moreThe total charge was $162. I hadn't asked for an estimate, but David had told me the cost of the parts and cost per/hr for labor. So the charge seemed right to me.
Description of Work: FlushMate was in both the toilets before we bought our condo in 2007. We found them unsatisfactory but they worked. My husband became ill and died, but once during that period we asked a plumber, who came for other reasons, about the FlushMates. He said part and labor would be over $500. I objected. He finally brought it down to $300 plus. I didn't even know whether he meant one or two toilets, but I no longer trusted him so I said no. I wondered if he had over-charged for the other very expensive work he did. But because my husband was so ill, I couldn't bother with all those questions. At last I joined Angie's List and found David Elman's company. David himself came, the toilets behaved that day, but a few days before they had squeaked, growled, flapped loudly and functioned poorly. David helped me understand the mechanism, but left the decision to me. I didn't want to call him back when they misbehaved again, so I said I wanted the part replacement in both toilets that day. He worked cheerfully, efficiently, made sure I understood what he was doing, had me flush both toilets when he was finished. I was very pleased: they had never functioned so well in my experience.

 + -1 moreThey were excellent overall. They called me back promptly and arrived promptly. They seemed to do the job efficiently. It was a pretty big job to put in the new pipe as it was in an awkward place, up high in the basement but it took only few hours for them to do all of that. Their price seems pretty reasonable compared to the other plumbers here. They cleaned up after work.
Description of Work: They repaired a bath tub faucet and also replaced a rotted iron pipe with a new PVC pipe in the basement.

 + -1 moreI purchased a Delta faucet and a B***** garbage disposal ahead of time, since both my existing units were malfunctioning. The plumber arrived precisely on time. He quickly dispatched the disposal problem by shoving his fist into the unit and extracting some broken plastic that had accidently gotten into the disposal. We agreed that it was unnecessary to replace the disposal unit, since it now ran just fine. He then replaced the faucet w/sprayer with the unit I'd purchased in advance. Perfect job. All told, about 1 hour. I returned the unopened disposal to the store for a refund of $100.

 + 0 moreThey were very professional, polite, and punctual. They were reliable. The price might seem high, but the service was other wise well worth it. They provided a contact for repair of inadvertent damage to a countertop. They had to go through the wall to reach the drain lever from an ajoining room and provided a carpenter to finish the the work. They said they would repair the water heater, but recommended replacing it because it was close to 30 years old.
Description of Work: They put in three water closets. They replaced the old ones. They had to switch to a more powerful flush model at my request They installed a kitchen sink and faucet faucets. They also installed four bathroom sinks and respective faucets for each. They repaired a bathroom drain lever. They also installed a new water heater.

 + -1 moreThey were very prompt and courteous. Not the cheapest bid we got, but we went with them based on our limited interactions with them for the quote, and their reputation. The work was of good quality and they left our basement in good condition. We had a few questions for them which were answered to our satisfaction. When the work was done, after they'd left and the gas was turned on, the radiators needed to be bled of air, which they came out quickly to do. My husband is generally happy with their service, although he does have concerns that the gas vent to the outdoors has holes in it--you can see daylight from inside our house. Other than that the work went well.
Description of Work: B-E installed a natural gas boiler in our basement. This involved plumbing the house for gas, installing the boiler, removing the old oil tank, and also running a gas line for a future gas dryer.

 + -1 moreI called Monday at 9 AM, and asked for someone to come and write an estimate. David said he would be by around 12:00, but would call as he was leaving prior job. At 11 AM he called, and it was convenient so he came early. He was very professional, and respectful of the house, for example, asking if the cats were allowed outside before opening the door. He had green values, using a manually powered flash light. He got right into the problem, detecting that the water pressure reduction valve could be adjusted, changing out washers, and improving the shower water pressure to the point I now love it! He disconnected the dryer since I needed that done anyway. Total delight to work with - I hope not to need him again and again but would always call first. About to call to schedule hooking up the new dryer!
Description of Work: Plumber adjusted pressure reduction valve, replaced washers, removed debris from shower nozzle resulting in greatly improved water pressure. He also disconnected gas dryer as we are having that replace

 + -1 moreThe office staff was polite, informed and very nice about the fact that I did not know what anything was called. They sent a plumber as soon as was mutually convenient. He arrived pretty much on time, was polite, and had me show him all of my mini-issues. He then got to work. When he was finished, he advised me about an easy fix for our toilets for the future. Everything was excellent. The only reason I gave them a B on price was that it was kind of expensive, as the plumber was here for an hour at most. BUT it was still very good, considering, and the company included with the bill an explanation of the costs to run an efficient and reliable plumbing business. They made good points. Again, the only reason they got a "very good" on price was because my husband quibbled with me a little over the bill. Overall, an excellent experience, and I will use them again as well as recommend them to my friends.
Description of Work: Fixed leaky toilets and leads and replaced flappers. Fixed shower(replaced some internal things)that had not been working for a while. Looked at my outside water, let me know it was ok. Checked a slow leak on the lead to our water heater. Gave me advice about future plumbing issues.

 + -1 moreI asked to have an estimate for the job but was told the job was too small to justify sending anyone for an estimate. Given my previous experience with the company I went ahead and scheduled the job. Imagine my surprise when two people turned up to do the job. Granted one was an apprentice and was half the cost, it was still a shock that a job too small for an estimate warranted two plumbers. When I asked the plumbers to give me an idea of the cost of the job they told me a couple of hours and parts which they stated would be low. I assumed the cost of parts would be in the $50 range. I was surprise dot find the materials were close to $75. The plumbers did a good job, the pipe replaced and the area cleaned up. My concern is the expectations that were set. I did not expect the labor of two plumbers nor the cost of the materials.

They removed the vanity because they couldn t get access underneath the sink. That was alright because the vanity wasn't all that precious to me, and it works fine. He was punctual and timely, and did exactly what he said he was going to do. I forgot to mention before they billed me that I had found them on Angie's List. They had not given me the 10 percent discount that they had advertised, so when I called and told them, they told me to deduct the 10 percent discount from the bill and then send it to them. Being responsive to a customer is what I look for in your reviews, and I appreciate that. I was very pleased with their work and have actually recommended them to other people.

He also gave me advice on replacing a water heater when I asked him about it. On a side note: Cost estimate for repairing Symmons valve from 'Hub Plumbing': $600.
