NORTHERN COMFORT SYSTEMS

Everything went great. Technician explained everything and gave me some helpful hints to avoid future problems. He was prompt and very careful to clean up after himself. I ended up getting the service contract on both properties which will cover the A/C work in the spring.

We were out of the service providers service area so we were refunded and were not able to use their service. They were very nice about it and were quick to notify when they found this out.

I hate to leave negative reports for providers who did not do any work, but I am tired of providers who do not return calls/emails. I emailed them on 8/24 asking if they would extend the duct work in my basement. It's 9/9 (13 business days later)and I haven't received word back. Perhaps there isn't enough margin in this type of work and the provider prefers not to do it. This would be fine. But how about taking the 30 seconds it would take to tell me "no thanks?" The whole point of Angie's List is to avoid this type of time wasting experience.

Perfection. Came on time was professional and polite. Fixed the unit in about 10 minutes. We talked about repairs on down the road since the unit is a little over 10 years old.

He did an outstanding job...definitely worth every dime knowing that the system is running effectively and efficiently! He was on time and a very neat and clean appearance. Very thorough examination!

Professional and prompt service. The technician has a great understand of boilers which can be hard to find since they are not common in our area. Everything works great and work was completed quickly.

They were very quick to respond and scheduled the appointment to happen pretty quickly. The installer was friendly and knowledgeable and did a good job.

They have had to come out to fix the pump 3 times. They found 2 other parts that needed replaced. They have treated us well. They are nice people.

This was our first time using the company, and we'd probably use them again. They were prompt and professional, they did a good job for a fair price, and they responded quickly when we called.

My electric bills were extremely high last winter. I was aware they would be higher due to the cold weather we had but I was just not okay with paying such a high bill. After hearing great things and seeing great reviews I called Northern with my concern. They were exceptional! The office was very polite and very easy to talk with about my problem. They got me scheduled quickly and came out the next day. Scott was the technician that came out. He was on time and very professional. After thoroughly going through the system and talking with me, he found the problem. He replaced a sequencer and got my thermostat set up as well. I signed up on a yearly maintenance plan as well. Northern will be coming out twice a year to clean and check my system. Overall my experience was FANTASTIC! I recommend Northern to all my friends, family, and neighbors. They are really willing to go that extra mile to make sure their customers are taken care of and that is very appreciated.

Superb! Never an issue with them showing on time, acting unprofessional in my tenants homes, estimates don't change price once the work is actually performed. If they say it will cost X, they don't try to charge more! Very responsive, timely, and professional. I would recommend using them to anyone, even my own mother! Besides managing real estate, I am also board member for a local non-profit(Indy Yoga Movement) benfiting youth in middle school to high school with the benefits of yoga. Northern Comfort has supported this cause by giving donations to help keep the program running and helping us positively influence the kids in central Indianapolis.

Dustin was our technician and in true Northern Comfort Systemns tradition everything went great. Dustin was pleasant, professional, covered his feet with booties, and cleaned up when he was done. Dustin takes the time to thoroughly check all of the components of the furnace. I always enjoy talking with the Northern employees as I can always learn something new about our system. I have had other companies perform a PM on our previous furnace and in one case the technician was in and out of the house in 10 minutes. I was not very confident that he actually completed anything other than peeking inside and giving a thumbs up! Northern is great to work with. Jeff and his team should be proud of the service they provide. I am confident enough in their abilities that I purchased a multi-year PM plan.

I have had several problems with this company that i now feel the need to warn others about .... 1) In 2010, Northern replaced a furnace located in an unheated attic in my over-the-garage apartment, recommending a 95% high efficiency. Seemed to make sense to me at the time... After that nothing but problems... The high efficiency unit produced a tremendous amount of water condensation. This resulted in water damage to the underlying apartment, in addition to the unit shutting itself off, especially in colder weather. Northern tried to fix this with various reroutings of the condensate water, and multiple patches. A few days ago, when I tried to use it for the first time this season, the unit once again failed to heat. Repair estimate is in the $1,000+ range Three other companies have since told me that a high efficiency furnace should never have been installed in an unheated space in a cold weather climate! This fact seems to be common knowledge known to everybody but me and Northern Comfort! Since the cost of the repair of this unit is close to that of replacement with a standard efficiency (80%) furnace, I'm just going to get it replaced. 2) Despite the ongoing saga above, I only switched to another company for routine maintenance after one of their techs told me that I needed to replace a heat pump in my house. Another company found that the problem was simply that the unit's on/off switch had been turned off! ___________ I do understand that things will sometimes go wrong, and so I am not quick to write negative reviews. Also, I always found the owner to be very responsive and pleasant, even if constantly befuddled by the problems his company caused me. However, the realization that I am now going to have to pay for another furnace installation due to Northern Comforts incompetence in installing a very expensive and totally inappropriate furnace has prompted me to warn others of this company. Get a second opinion before you let them do any work. ---------- 2014-11-07 Update & response to Northern's reply of 2014-11-07 Jeff, you are still confused about the issues. 1) The heat pump issue in 2012 was on my home, NOT the over the garage apartment, and despite your tech telling me that the unit needed to be replaced, it has worked well ever since another company simply turned it on. 2) The above the garage apartment furnace discussed above was installed by your company in October 2010 (not 2012), and has never worked properly since you installed it. In fact, other companies have informed me that the high efficiency condensing unit you recommended and installed simply does not function properly in unheated spaces. I am sorry for your customers that you still don't seem to understand this. (Note to Angie's List subscribers, DO NOT LET ANYBODY INSTALL a high (90+%) efficiency furnace in an unheated space, unless you plan to build an insulated igloo around it!) The issue has to do with the large amounts of water generated by the high efficiency units freezing in the uninsulated space preventing the unit from functioning when its really cold, not to mention the water back flowing through the ceiling. My new standard (80%) efficiency unit is now working great in the space. 3) I had already wasted two years allowing your company multiple shots at fixing the problem, how many years do you need? You haven't heard from me because I simply no longer trust your company..

During the proposal process Jeff did an excellent job reviewing the options and helped me select a system appropriate to the house. The work was scheduled promptly. Josh arrived on time and went immediately to work removing the old system and arranging for it to be hauled away by recyclers. The new system was installed with a minimum of fuss. Minor problem with the old duct work was corrected. Installation looks very professional. Jeff stopped by a couple of times to check on the job. Clean-up was complete. A follow-up visit was scheduled for a few weeks later to make sure everything was working properly - as it was. The system did a great job during the hot days this past summer.

We purchased a BOGO for an A/C tune up. We have an older house and knew the A/C was older, so we thought it would be a good time to get a tune up. The guys came out and found a couple of pieces that would help with the longetivity of the unit needed to be replaced. They actually gave us the credit of the other part of the BOGO onto the service, which ended up costing us around $500. More than we thought we were going to spend, but if it helps us not have to replace the unit longer, I'll take it. We will definitely use them again and plan on enrolling in their annual tune up program.

Northern Comfort provided model professional service. The president of the firm came to our house to make an estimate on the day we called and provided three written options the next day. The price was better than another company's estimate. Northern Comfort technicians were uniformly prompt, courteous, and careful, and were able to complete the entire job in one day. A technician has been back several times to fine-tune the system. Their communication by email and phone is outstanding. We expect the same high level of service over the coming years as they provide yearly maintenance.

They are excellent. Very responsive to any problems. Owner is wonderful and I'm incredibly happy with their service. They are great at solving issues with older homes.

Starting with initial service call in May, responsive and professional. Their office calls to let you know technician on the way. Office staff pleasant to work with when scheduling service. Technicians are friendly and professional. Technicians took time to explain findings and plans for service. Purchased SMA plan with two cleanings a year and 15% off services.

Very professional, curtious, and excellent workmanship. Left the area very clean after removing all of the old ductwork and old furnace.

I chose this company based on Angie's List reviews and an Angie's List coupon. I was told that their first availability would be the following day, but was thrilled when I got a call late that afternoon that they could be over shortly. The technician's name was Dustin. He was very professional, friendly, and thorough. He checked the thermostat, furnace/blower, and the outside A/C unit very thoroughly. He determined that I needed about a pound of refrigerant and that the unit had shut off because of the low pressure safety. He was upfront about costs before performing any actual service. He was efficient and very competent. The company has a one year system service package which I purchased. This reduced the cost of this service call and provides once-a-year A/C and furnace service calls along with discounts on any other services within the package year. The price for the package is actually a very good financial deal with the savings I received on this service call and the costs that I have paid in the past (always using online deals) for routine seasonal maintenance. Dustin did not in any way pressure me to purchase the service package and gave me time to think about it (which for me involved a calculator *smile*) while he went about his work adding the refrigerant to my unit. I am pleased to have found this company after using various other HVAC companies for service in the past.

They're very responsive and punctual. They do good work. To me it was a big job because it was two thousand dollars worth of work but they fixed it. They just totally fixed it up. Today's visit cost me $79.

This company is first class when it comes to service and their techs. They do what is needed and do not try to up sell. They do excellent work and I highly recommend them.

Two lead installers arrived on time and wasted no time covering our floors to protect them before they did anything. They then took no time removing the old furnace. Both installers were very professional and courteous, and made sure to treat our home with care. The installers had to work until 5:30-6:00 to finish the work. When they were done they took mr down to the new furnace and went over where the filter went, how to adjust the humidifier, and asked if if I had any questions. It is very obvious that the installers take pride in their work because it shows.

Several years ago, I was looking to make a change. I was looking for a smaller contractor or a service provider. I just thought I'd try them out. We're on a yearly, twice a year service. It's a maintenance contract with them now. We pay them once a year for two visits. I would continue to use them in the future.

Furnace would not start up without manually shutting the power off; even then it took up to 4 hours to cycle on. In a no charge emergency visit, the problem was temporarily fixed and the most like underlying cause identified as the improper installation of vent to outside. On second service call, the old vent pipe was opened and found to be full of condensate which was causing a pressure seitch to close; the vent pipe was cut out and reinstalled correctly, but I was warned that the switchitself could be damaged but it was recommneded that I wait and see before spending $150 to replace the switch. Several days later the probelm reoccurred and worsened;. A new pressure switch was ordered and in a third service call was rinstalled as well as a new thermostat (with no labor charge for the thermostat installation). Overall I was very impressed with Norhtern's customer focus from theservice techs to the office staff, especially Giannee, Josh and Rochelle. Next to having the original contractor rectify their errors for free (they are out of business) this was the optimal resolution of the problem.
