Thank you, Angie's List members. I had a very pushy salesperson (Josh) come to my door in Windcombe soliciting our business. We are a no-solicitors neighborhood. He was pushy and when I did the "I gotta talk to my husband," he said he would come back tonight. UGH! So not going to use this company. Fortunately, I didn't sign any paperwork, but he did get my name and address out of me. And when I tried to call the company to tell them not to come back, only a machine answered. So glad that I had a chance to double check on Angie's List.

He told us that Alterra pest control was in our neighborhood doing pest control for several neighbors in our area. He game me some names that I did not recognize. He said this summer was going to be a really bad year for pests (he gave me a small list of pests that were attacking homes in our neighborhood). He told me he could give me a deal -- the normal cost was $199 but I could get it for $109. Since I don't trust solicitors, I told him that we already had a pest control company doing our pest control work for us. He, then, kept asking me questions -- who does your pest control for your, how often do they do it, etc., etc. He just did not want to give up. I did not feel like that was any of his business so I told him I did not want to give him all that information. He then offered me a deal for $39 -- a one time thing. ??? Why would he offer that when I told him we already had someone doing service for us. I then told him that if I changed my mind, I would call Alterra Pest Control. He said that if I called them, I would not get the deal he was offering me today. He was giving me this deal because they were working in my neighborhood at this time. Give it up---

They were great. He did exactly what was described to me when the sales person was here. We had a couple of wasp nests all the way at the top, they were old but he sprayed those out as well then he treated the outside of the house. They're professional, timely, they came out the next day and said that if I ever see any breakthrough in between treatments, they'll come out for free and take care of that as well. They were very fair with their pricing.

I didn't go with this company thanks to Angies List members. (I do have a pick with this review form forcing me to give them a letter grade when i didn't use them tho)

Not happy with them. They solicited our neighborhood and had a special for 39.00 for a one time application. I did not sign any contracts, yet they are charging me 89.00 each for pest control quarterly. I haven’t actually seen them come out other than the 1st time. When I called and told them I only wanted a one-time service, they told me I could not stop my service and they would proceed with legal action. They continue to service my home even though I told them I already have a pest control service. I originally asked about woodpeckers and carpenters ants- they told me they could take care of the problem but it has not been solved. They won’t take no for an answer.

First time I think it went well. The second time I had to have them come back because I was not around and they missed certian areas. I had requested for them to contact me anytime they are going to come out and spray and they have yet to do that. I just get a note that they had sprayed and charged to my credit card.

They treat around the house and in the yard. They seek out and knock down wasp nests, etc., and treat where the was nest had been. So far, so good.

It was an extremely positive experience. They were quick to come out. We had a flea problem on the inside of the house and they sprayed it for free. If you have any problems with bugs, they will come out and address it.

Since we were having an ant problem, and since they offered the first application for free as a way to prove the value of their service, we decided to try it. They explained that the first application may take several weeks to work, which was ok. They came out for the second application about a month later, and we informed them that the first application did not deter the ants. After the second application, we waited a couple more weeks to see if it would help. When it did not, my wife contacted the company and told them we wanted to cancel since their solution did not work. We were then informed that we could not cancel not only would they not refund money (which we did not ask for), they informed us that we would likely be sued for not continuing with the service. I thought that would not be a good move, and just decided to see if they attempted to follow-through. Sure enough, I received a notification that they will be coming out again and debiting our checking account again. Right now I am following through with the bank to see how we can get this stopped. In the meantime I will contact them again on 10/7/13 and give them one last chance to simply stop the service. If they do not then I will start the legal process with the prosecutor's office and small claims, and file a report with the better business bureau as well. I will keep members posted as this progresses and post case numbers. Its hard to believe that they believe they can, or would attempt, to conduct business in this manner without impunity, but it is what it is. So we will deal with it. More to come. In the meantime, I would highly advise staying away from this company.

They seem to do very well when they come out. The pricings are little high though. I would say they are very polite. They seem to know what they are talking about. They are willing to come out between treatments if we find any insects. We would probably continue to use them again.

The original service was set up quickly and done efficiently. The service representatives that treated our home were kind and thorough. They asked us to wait 7-10 days before contacting the company about any ongoing problems because that was how long it took for the pests to essentially die out. We waited about 2 weeks and noticed that not only were the spiders still as common as before, but they were weaving even bigger webs around the exterior of the house and on or near our fence.. My husband had to call SIX times over the course of a week and a half before he actually got in contact with a person working at the office. Messages were left 3 of the 6 times he called with zero return phone calls from Alterra. The person he spoke with was apologetic to him about the lack of communication and inability to reach anyone at the office. This person scheduled a service rep to come out the next day. Again the service rep was very kind. He knocked down the webs and treated the exterior of the house and yard again. After this, they called to schedule the first quarterly treatment. And again, the service reps were kind and thorough. Unfortunately, a few weeks later we had to call again because the pests were just not going away. We always see a rapid decline in ants and pill bugs for a few weeks and then a huge resurfacing of them again. The spiders have maintained the entire time Alterra has been treating the house and yard. I called to see if someone could come out and take care of the problem again. This time the main issue was ants; they were all over our driveway and by our garage. Alterra came, and they treated. And now here we are, again about 3-4 weeks out from application and the pests are resurfacing with vengeance once more. My overall feeling is that the main office is not organized and/or does not have a good system of communication in place, the service reps are very friendly, thorough, and hard-working, and the product that they use to treat for pests is ultimately quite ineffective. My husband and I plan to cancel our contract with them and begin using another company before Spring hits.

Very polite, punctual and professional. WIll continue to use this organization.

6/12 Cold call. Unsolicitated in the neighborhood. Actually our neighborhood is even posted "No solicitation" but we let him in anyway. We listened to what he had to say and thought the product sounded good. Environmentally safe/pet safe. He told us what all they would do and satisfaction guaranteed. Part of what sold us on the company was getting our crawl space sprayed as we do have spiders. He said this would be done on the initial visit as well as using the granular product on the whole yard. He also said that they would spray 3 ft up on the house and 3 ft out from the house. We set the first visit up for the following morning. 6/13 He came. I watched what he was doing. He did not have the power sprayer on the truck but only used a back pack and stood just at the base of the crawl space to spray. I asked him about this and he said that they only do the power spray on the second visit. He also did not use the granules on the whole yard. He said they only do the perimeter. I told him I was advised that the whole yard would be done to help with gnat, mosquitoes and fleas. He said he would go back over it. He did not redo the whole yard. I could also see that he went only 1 ft up on the side of the house. He said that is how they are trained and the sales person is incorrect and should not have told us that. Called several times and finally got some to come back. They were suppose to provide the correct service but ... 6/22 Came at 8:00 am. Very nice young man. He did not come in a truck with a power spray nor even the other type of equipment nor granular produce. He said that was NOT how the order was written up that we just wanted someone to come talk with us and set up another appointment. Needless to say, we were extremely unhappy but he talked to us quite a while, called the office and wrote up another order telling us someone would be out as soon as possible to provide the expected work. They will call and set it up. As of today 7/8 have heard from NO ONE!!!!

They will be coming back out soon to do an outdoor treatment as well. They were very thorough and contentious, I look forwarded to working with them in the future.

They arrived promptly at 2pm as arranged. They introduced themselves and then reviewed what was going to happen. Gave me instructions on how to confine my dog and cats during the pesticide application to ensure their safety. Also took the appropriate precautions to protect my tropical fish from the pesticides. After the application was completed, the service professional explained what was done and how long that I needed to confine my pets for safety precautions. They also reviewed the service guarantee with me and gave me additonal contact information (business cards and magnets) of how to contact them if I saw a recurrance of the pests. I was very pleased with their professionalism, concern about my children and pets, and their extra time to explain all the processes to be performed and again after the process was done. Have not had any pest problems after the application.
