The experience was excellent. We called on a Monday and they were able to schedule us in for Thursday, and there was no emergency charge, etc. to come out same week. Joe (the owner) and his employee John were on time, called to say they were on the way, were both very professional, the work was done neatly & was cleaned up after, the repair itself was done very quickly, & they explained what they found and what was done to fix the problem. Joe also gave us the Angie’s List discount (even though I forgot to ask for it) and also provided us a very reasonable quote on some additional ceiling repair we needed done. They were able to give us a more cost effective alternative for the additional repairs we needed as opposed to going the expensive route; again without even being asked. We would recommend them highly to others and will be using this company again.

Carlson showed up in a broken down van giving a very unprofessional appearance. The two workers seemed to be in an extreme hurry. The primary worker raced through the job, installing and soldering the new spigots in place. In the process he left a mess not cleaning up after himself and burned some nearby carpet with hot solder. The water piping shutoff was placed in an almost inaccessible location. When asked about the shutoff location he replied that he did not bring the correct copper fitting to place the shutoff appropriately. The spigots were not sealed properly to the outside with sealant which I went back and completed myself. One spigot has already failed and is leaking. A bathroom shower control valve was checked but Carlson never returned to finish the job. I could not be more disappointed with the quality of work and the high price charged for the work. What a mess from start to finish.

Joe impressed me from the start by returning my call from his vacation to set up time to come give estimate when he returned. He was not only on time, but early on the day of estimate. The estimate was a range of cost based on the fact we didn't know what damage we would find in terms of whether the mold spread behind tub surround. Thankfully when the wall was open we could see it hadn't spread so it was at the low end of the estimate even with us adding an extra job on there that I forgot to inquire about. The work was done in two stages. Joe and his plumber came out the first day to do all plumbing related work. They switched out all the bathroom trim from builders grade that came with house to a nice satin nickle that we provided. It looks great. The shut off valves under sink were locked up from age/corrosion so they needed replaced so the sink was a little more involved than initially thought. The reverse osmosis we provided to replace our old one was quite different and the fittings and lines were different so it was a little tricky but they got it up and running for a fraction of previous quotes we had gotten from other plumbers. The drywall repair was done by his drywall guy the next day. Did a good job repairing the bathroom in a tricky spot that left little room for working. The drywall repair plan for my son's room was to cut out the wall my husband destroyed trying to hang a floating desk, put a cross support in and then put up the new drywall. Once the wall was open and we could see what was behind it, it proved to be more labor intensive to put in the cross support because of the odd things running through the wall and made the desk trickier to hang. But it's up and secure which puts us mikes ahead of where we were. My only real complaint was having to scrub some drywall mud out of the carpet that spattered outside of where the dropcloth was but it's not a big deal. All in all I'm happy and will gladly hire Carlson Contracting again and have already inquired on a quote for a different job. The Angie's list coupon was a bonus and helped us save money.

They had to figure out what was going on because my memory failed me. The drain tile I thought the water should have been coming out of was incorrect. Once we figured out there was a Y connection in the tiles, they were able to open the correct tile right up. Joe and his assistant were very helpful and professional.

It went very well. They were honest,courteous, efficient, and cleaned up afterwards. They took away the old hardware . Their charges were reasonable. They pointed out other problems in connexion with the installations that I had not noticed but were definitely there upon inspection.

It went well and new one works great with NO LEAKS. Would hire again in a heart beat.

Both guys were very professional and did the work around our schedule- they made sure we were happy with the finished project.

As I expected, my sink is backing up again. I explained to Joe I believe about 3-4 months back when he did the work that this has been going on for years. I cleaned it out myself a few times over a 5 yr period with chemicals and a snake. I noticed the build up was in the pipes in the wall but junk would start to travel into the pipes under the sink and overflow. After I cleaned out the pipes and sink overflow drain, it would be good for few months then it happens again so I needed a professional. So before Joe came I emptied the vanity out and placed all the stuff on the floor or in the shower on other side of room out of the way. I left a roll of paper towels by sink for him to use. Joe was good at responding and being on time. I left him in the room and 15 mins later he came down stairs and said he was done. I went to test how the water would drain and it was very, very, very slow, not what I was expected. Joe said that was normal drainage but I was like WHAT and disagreed and had to walk him to a different sink on the same floor to show him how the water drains straight down with no blockage with water on full. We then went back to the problem sink and had to flush out the overflow which did improve a little but it still didn't drain like the other. Why did I have to point this out? Asked about the build up in the wall; did he just unclog or use something to scrape out the junk in the pipes? He said his snake scraped the pipe, it had about 1-2' of build up. He said just run the hot water for a bit to rinse away junk which I did. Charged me I believe $121 and was there for like 30 mins but that's because I kept him there longer to somewhat correctly finish the job. Also I wasn't aware of this ad at the time so don't think he applied any discount for me. After Joe left I then noticed he didn't use the paper towels I left instead he grabbed a bathroom floor towel and used it to wipe up the mess under the sink. Also in the shower was a huge mess which looked like he dumped out whatever junk that was in the pipes under sink. All that black mold junk splashed all over our stuff from under the vanity. So unprofessional, won't use again or recommend to anyone.

Joe was prompt in his arrival and did not easy anytime getting to the source of the issue of my clogged sink. He knew exactly what he was doing and did it quickly and efficiently .

Spoke to Joe on the phone Tuesday March 29th when we noticed our sump pump didn't turn off.  Joe said he'd come at noon - 12:30 on the 30th.  He did arrive on time, looked at the problem and had to replace our sump pump.  Everything done and fixed in one day - plus he gave us a discount coupon which we didn't realize we had on Angie's List.

Professional, timely & reasonably priced - we will definitely keep Joe's phone number as our choice in plumbers.  Thanks Joe!

Gas was shut off by Nicor for leaks. Called Joe Carlson who came out in less than 48 hours (the soonest available contractor).
The gas line branch that leads to the pool heater was leaking inside in the basement and outside underground.We have never used the pool heater so he removed the branch line and capped it off. Also, replaced a leaky line at one of the hot water heaters and inspected the rest of the lines.
Since I had a captured audience, I asked him to look at a faulty shower head. We originally thought that the shower head might have been clogged so replaced it. Problem wasn't resolved. I purchased a new shower kit (to get rid of the ugly gold toned fixtures) and Joe installed the new head and flow control. He added a new access panel to the bathroom closet wall to access the valve from.
Some time ago I had purchased two American made solid stainless steel sink drains, but since they set much deeper under the sink I wasn't eager to crawl under and re-plumb everything yet. Joe made the necessary parts run and complete the installation. While under the sink he noticed that the plumb line to the dishwasher was hooked up incorrectly and repaired that as well. . . We've never used the dishwasher either ;o)
I found everything about the experience to pleasurable. Joe is very friendly, personable, knowledgeable, thorough and cares very much about the quality of his work. Also, he didn't seem to mind at all when I stood over his shoulder and asked questions occasionally.
I have a few other projects looming in the future (gas heater in the garage, bathroom fan, etc.) and Joe will be the first call I make. Gonna use the coupon he gave me : )
